Last time I saw an engine belch so much black smoke as the one in video at 0:26 was from a ancient 3-wheeler tempo in Jungpura New Delhi back in 1995.
guess what, you actually saw Indias Mig-21, becoz it has the same engine.
probably using the afterburner and hence the extra fuel causes the smoke. If you watch the video carefully the same aircraft later on goes from Smokey engine to smoke free
now find me the Smoke in the PICTURE ?
Seriously, why is this producing so much smoke?
From 0:55 of the video

There is so much smoke from the one on the left that it looks like it has already been shot up. The powerplant for the JF-17 is a Klimov RD-33. It appears that the Chinese did not do a good job of pirating the engine or the Russians sold them a defective design.

The RD-33MK "Morskaya Osa" (Russian: Морская Оса: "Sea Wasp") is the latest model developed in 2001. It is intended to power the MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB shipborne fighters, however it has also been adopted for the MiG-35. The RD-33MK develops 7% higher thrust, is digitally controlled FADEC and smokeless unlike earlier RD-33 engines, has increased afterburner thrust to 9,000 kilograms-force (88,000 N; 20,000 lbf) and dry weight 1,145 kilograms (2,524 lb) compared to the baseline model through modern materials used on the cooled blades, although it retains the same length and maximum diameter. Incorporated is an infrared and optical signature visibility reduction systems. Service life has been increased to 4,000 hours. The RD-33MK ensures shipborne fighters unassisted take-off capability, retain performance in hot climate environment and, naturally, a boost in combat efficiency for MiG-29 fighter latest variant.
B-52 bomber.
so does it look like defective.
Check post #3 & #5.
read it for the 3rd time.

RD-33 is known for its lit bit of smoke. you can verify this to any defence expert.
Pakistan gt the new deal from russia which is the latest of RD-33MK series. you can see the other one jet on right side which hasnt much smoke.
B-52 started production in 1952. We have come a long way since.
I understand that afterburners inject fuel downstream, but the fact remains that black smoke indicates unburnt carbon particles or other inefficiencies.
Hows that rickshaw, Tejas, coming along??? still 2-3 decades of development left?)
Any idea when the work on Block 3 of JF17 will start? Lonewarrior
The JF-17 Block-3 is set to make a flight in August 2019 possibly on Pakistan independence Day.

Do you know about Project Azm? It was a plan to indigenously build a 5th gen fighter taking the experience from JF-17, and expected first trial flight was supposed to be in 2030. The project was with Chinese and/or Turkish assistance but most of the work would be done inhouse. There was alot of chatter about it during the tenure of the previous Air Marshal but not so much now.
Just wait for J10-CYou will love it.
