[VIDEO] Misbah's funny response to a journalist about whether he'll encourage players to do tuk-tuk

Misbah's full reply to the question:

"Our players are often ready to put things on others. I don't remember ever telling any player to play in a specific way according to my instructions. I remember that Sharjeel Khan got out 2-3 times playing a sweep shot in PSL. I told him that next time you hit that shot, I will ask you about it. I told him if he goes for a six and gets caught at the boundary, that's his strength so it's acceptable. But if he plays this shot which is not his strong shot then I will drop him from the team. So my thoughts are clear on this, players should play according to their natural instincts and you shouldn't try to change that, and that is what they will be successful with. So I encourage players to play their own game"

"The board has introduced a very good points system which rewards players. So there are batting points up for grabs, so batsmen can improvise even in the 4 day game and make a match out of it, and try and get targets like the one in 110 overs so that their batting improves according to international standards which are also changing (towards a more fast-paced game)"

What a stupid question it’s not a Odi tournament it’s a three day tournament they can play 500 balls and score a 100 for all that matters

So he wanted to drop sharjeel by getting out in a similar manner. What about his friend hafeez who kept getting out in slip. Hoping for a 3-0 yo Sri Lanka and a complete destruction against Australia so we can get rid of misbah.

Afridi should be appointed head coach + chief selector

Pretty solid response and in accordance with the modern day cricket where players are encouraged to keep their natural styles and instincts. Only change required as Misbah said and even other modern day coaches say is to apply the game better and play according to your strength.

Dumb question but this dude has no business being coach of an Intl team.

Imagine if they made Mitchell Johnson coach of Australia randomly right now.

King Misbah!

For a reason!

Misbah played that sudden slog sweep that would always, always go for a gigantic six, out of the ground!

:misbah

Why is it a dumb question?

Misbah was the king of blocking and a horrible ODI player. Just look at his innings ball by ball in against India in Mohali.

This journalist is asking a question lots of Pakistan fans have worries about.

And clearly a biased audience in his favor....they're laughing like they've just heard and seen the funniest thing on earth.

A bit OT, but having watched several press conferences now with Imran and foreign leaders, I've realized that a great deal of the the members of our press are outright morons.

Check post #2 for the complete response.

According to Misbah:

I don't remember ever telling any player to play in a specific way according to my instructions.

Also according to Misbah:

But if he plays this shot which is not his strong shot then I will drop him from the team.

Not gonna lie, Misbah is talking impressively so far. Let’s see what happens on the field, the strategy, and results.

Clear difference between the two scenarios.

Telling players to play in a specific way = curbing their instincts, urging them to be defensive.

In the latter scenario, he is basically urging the batsman not to play low percentage shots which is good advice.

This 'urging players to be defensive' idea mainly comes from seeing the SR of the likes of Ahmed Shehzad, who is just a poor batsman rather than a good batsman who became too defensive.

Alongside this, the question was a stupid one because the reporter was using scores in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy as an example, disregarding context, conditions, etc. and somehow connecting it with Misbah just to push the tuk-tuk angle.

The reporter brought up a legitimate concern among a lot of fans about Misbah's defensive style, most infamously his own batting against India in Mohali, never mind his strategy as captain in Australia.

To have everyone laughing as if this was such an absurd question just shows how much the press are eating our of his hands.

They were laughing at the answer because it was funny.

Stupid questions are the norm in press conferences... there were two more in this Misbah press conference alone.

:)))

Height of stupidity.

Have to salute Misbah for his cool answers.

One wonders how some of these people get accreditation from PCB.

Should really ban some of these journalists from attending PCs. Absolute embarrassment especially when they’re out their on tours during press conferences.

I would ask better questions than these guys off the top of my head. These guys come to the presser prepared to ask questions like these...

One wonders how some of these people get accreditation from PCB.

Forget the PCB...how do these individuals get jobs at these channels? And how do the channels keep running with such poor reporting?

It's who you know, not what you know.

Having seen some of these guys covering tournaments, nothing surprises me any more.

Another fine example of 'foot in mouth' syndrome

I'm not surprised. The Pakistani reporters let into press conferences with Imran and Donald Trump are even worse. Even Trump commented - where do you get these guys?

I loved the video and love misbah but this is slightly concerning.
I would rather Babar got better at playing the ( paddle) sweep as it will make him so much more difficult to control in the middle of a one day innings.

I would rather he tried to play it and improve, rather than totally put it away, out of fear of being dropped

better to do these shot pratices in nets and side matches and domestic matches not in the main event games... also, babar can probably play that bcz he is a solid memeber who has confidence due to his number of runs.. not a good idea for some1 like imam to try tht in a main game

Playing your natural game is fine as long as you get the job done. But, that hasn't been the case for Fakhar Zaman. He was joking about his weaknesses to the short-ball in an interview before the world cup, where he said he doesn't worry about it, he'll just deal with it in an actual match in the world cup. We all know how atrocious he was in the world cup, getting out to a short-ball like most people expected. Even bofore that, asides from that Zimbabwe series, he wasn't very good.

Instead of just playing their Natural game, I hope they actually try to improve their game, which doesn't necessarly mean they have to completely change your style.

This is what I was afraid of.

Now this will come to light whenever Pakistan will lose a game or fail to chase a 300 total, both of which will definitely happen in the future Misbah's name will come up again.
The media will use Tuk-Tuk of Misbah to bash on the team. Even though no one will see Misbah play in person, they will talk about his influence on the dressing room to play slowly.
Eventually pressure will be on the players and it won't bode well for the team.
Not to mention you have a former coach for a bowling coach. That will only make things more complicated.
I really hope our team and players can put past differences aside
