Someone should remind Afridi that this is the 21st century. He can stop holding on to thoughts that belong in the dark ages. Embarrassing for him and Pakistan as he is our captain.

Lets not look into the past.
Where shall we look?
Because I'm not too comfortable with the direction you look at Afridi.
What was it?
Did he run over your cat or did he not give you an autograph?
You got me.
He refused to give me an autograph.
Or maybe it's because I'm a Pakistani who doesn't appreciate his country being humiliated.
Must be the autograph.
Humiliated? how?
Have you been watching this current series? He has been the stand out performer. Far bigger problems in Pakistan then Afridi!
Haha good reply, I'm being serious I actually laughed haha.
But still come on, people change. Lets just think positive for a moment.
I apologise.
He is shown that he is a legend. Some people might say that a few decent performances against a 3rd string New Zealand side in home conditions is all he has done but I disagree. How players in the history of the game have performed like this ever?
.
And here goes Mr. high IQ.
Afridi performs against minnows while rest of the 10 players in the same game purposely don't perform against minnows. They save their big performance against big teams only."

Except polite people try to follow the culture of others
I love it how SOME Muslims always want to have it their way. But they are the first ones to cry victim when the shoe is on the other foot. Some cultures might not want to see women covering up. Some cultures might not want to let people eat beef, etc, etc. Tomorrow if someone tries to follow their culture/religion and ban something, you would be the first one to complain.
While Afridi was rude, and it should have been established before that he wouldn't shake the hand, I expect nothing more from a dumb Afridi who probably was acting up to the cameras.
On the other hand, people saying it's just a handshake, how many would be Okay if their wife or gf shook hands with a random guy for winning a prize or something?
Haan, abb bolo?
Koi baat nai na? If your wife starts shaking hands with some random guy?
Honestly, they hypocrisy on this forum.
I would never like my wife to do that, so why should I do the same.

Personally I don't initiate a handshake with ladies as I feel I shouldn't impose as it might make them uncomfortable but have never refused to shake someones hand. And I would not mind my wife shaking someone's hand it is just a handshake after all. But I get your point about the hypocrisy of Pakistani man. They would not like their wife or sisters to shake the hand of someone from the opposite sex but have no problems doing it them selves.
plz dont generalize by saying pakistani men furthermore Its on you that you will be ok if your wife shake someone's hand so dnt expect this from everyone, if someone is not ok with this then we should criticize him, is that???
Its got nothing to do with the girl, its a religious commandment that Afridi follows.
Nothing against the commandment as I noted earlier, but in that case, any explanation for that photo earlier? Or is other sort of touching fine, but a handshake is a specific proble,?
I feel sorry for the girl looking silly but well done Afridi
Bottom line is, he is a muslim and in Islam, as far as I am aware, it is encouraged not to look at women in the eye or have unnecessary physical contact out of respect for women. Well done to Afridi for standing by that.
I'm sure a lot of people won't agree with me or what Afridi did and say it's "backwards thinking" etc. etc. - but I stand by what I think![]()

It's very noble of him, but considering that their is a picture of him floating around signing autographs, one has to wonder how old the picture is, and if he took yesterday as beginning of a new change.
Anyhow I am the last one to doubt one's intentions, but with Afridi, you always know there's some story.
This whole thread is bizarre to me, but I don't pretend to understand a different culture.
So you are saying it is ok to make other people feel uncomfortable because it is better to follow one's teaching. So if someone else teachings make a Muslim uncomfortable, you will also stand for that? For example a man forcing a Muslim woman to shake hands in his country. Or people not being comfortable talking to someone not showing their face. etc, etc.
This is nothing to do with being backwards or not. It is to do with some Muslims always wanting to have it BOTH ways. They will do whatever possible to do whatever they feel is right even if others are uncomfortable. However, if someone else infringes on their comfort because their values are different, they will be first ones to complain. It almost looks like for some, I am Muslim is an excuse to be selfish and rude and get their way always. One side, I am a Muslim I will do whatever even if others don't like it. On the other, I am a Muslim, so don't victimize me and force me to convert to your ideals.
Guys, let's stop the religious stuff in this thread.
Maybe if you want to discuss such stuff start a thread in the Time Pass forum.
This was different. Kate put her hand out and the soldier quickly saluted as that is protocol and then shook her hand.
