Its funny how they defend freedom of speech in nations they have never set foot but are mute about their own country.

It seems these extremist goons will be back to this poor fella looking for violence.

Go to this link and see an extremist who beat an innocent elderly Muslim man, being greeted by roses after being released directly by a BJP order.

I don't remember our secular Indian friends giving outrage about such incidents or what a hellhole India has become. It seems most of their energy is spent on teaching us free speech or vigorously commenting on Pakistani issues.

In truth we know why, BJP openly admits to having paid media cells on all social media sites, not a surprise some of these specimens will end up here.

Dewas, Madhya Pradesh: Muslim shopkeepers in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district have been threatened with violence for selling firecrackers named after Hindu gods or goddesses. Shocking videos that have emerged online show gangs of young men - with saffron-coloured scarves wrapped around their necks - barging into shops and warning the owners of dire consequences if they continue selling such products.
In one such video two men can be heard warning a Muslim shopkeeper that "if even one Lakshmi bomb or Ganesh bomb is sold from this shop, we will be forced to do things you won't like".

The owner of the shop, visibly scared by the threats and intimidation, repeatedly promises to do as he is told and, as the thugs leave, folds his hands and begs: "Please don't be angry... please."

Before the men leave, one refers to the cartoon of the Prophet Mohammad by a French publication, which has triggered controversy worldwide.

"One cartoon is made and so much fuss happens. We are also not immune to this (disrespecting religious faith). During NRC protests Muslim shops were forced to shut down. This is the truth. If you are against the nation, then we are against you," he says.

The shopkeeper, perhaps wary of provoking violence, mumbles: "No, no, nothing like that".

Another video, re-tweeted by Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, shows a gang of around half-a-dozen men - again with saffron-robed scarves around their necks - arguing with an elderly Muslim shopkeeper.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh tweeted, demanding action against those threatening the shopkeepers

The shopkeeper, whose explanations and entreaties are drowned out by the thugs, is warned that if he were to sell firecrackers bearing Hindu gods or goddesses his entire shop will be set on fire.

The besieged shopkeeper can heard explaining, as are others in similar videos, that they do not make these products or decide on the packaging, but their comments are overruled.

In his retweet Digvijaya Singh demanded that the district administration in Dewas take action against those who threatened innocent shopkeepers. Mr Singh also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pass an ordinance directing manufacturers not to use such images, if the government was concerned.

The Dewas District Collector said that he has seen the videos and that inquiries were underway. He promised that action would be taken against those who made such threats.

The sale and bursting of firecrackers have been banned temporarily in some states and national capital Delhi this year, as part of efforts to control air pollution and minimise its impact on the spread of the coronavirus.

Madhya Pradesh is among 18 states and union territories asked to respond on the issue of firecracker-caused pollution. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has said it is considering a wider order prohibiting the use of firecrackers to protect the health of the vulnerable groups.

Madhya Pradesh bans firecrackers with images of gods and goddesses

Madhya Pradesh government has banned the use of firecrackers with images of gods and goddesses. The state also banned storage, transport, sale and use of Chinese and other foreign made firecrackers. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said there is a provision of punishment for up to two years in jail under the Explosives Act for those violating the rules.

Its a shame that they were threatened but I can understand the sentiments of the hindus here. The shop keeper should remove them from display. The mob should however direct some ire towards the manufacturer also.

Such display of images of gods on firecrackers is banned in MP. The mob should have gone to the police.

Police doesn't take action. That is why common people have to rise against insult to their religion. Here the shop keeper can be excused as he was only the seller, not the manufacturer, so the insult was not intentional. Should take the fight against the manufacturer too, mostly sivakasi based companies.

we need firecrackers, but without insult to our Gods.

The people involved in these type of mobs aren't going to go the police. They get their kicks from pretending they are enforces of the law and everyone else is corrupt or useless.

Anyway this mob can act as an inspiration to other religious mobs, beyond some harsh words they didnt resort to violence or high level harassment.

In severely underpoliced country like india, such volunteers can take the responsibility to help law enforcement maintain law and order...or at least order.

Why is it banned?

From what I understand from the France crisis India was all for freedom of expression etc?

I think that is the main problem with India. Too many people and very few police.

Not possible to have enough police. Such para-police civilians can fill the scarcity, but the volunteers should be carefully vetted to prevent anti social elements and should record the incidents.

Don't worry when it's Muslims being insulted then you'll find our neighbors telling us how important free speech is in secular society

Yes, joshila bhai made a big point of informing us how India stood shoulder to shoulder with France's official endorsement of abuse of the Prophet PBUH. Quite strange that he is now quietly telling us that images of hindu gods are banned in Indian states.

Maybe that's the reason these peaceable and well restrained Bajrang protestors are trying to ban love jihad as well, because of Covid.

Maybe you have never heard of the maxim, act local, think global. we think globally, but our actions are local.

Pictures of Gods and Goddesses on Fire Crackers is nothing new. I have been seeing them since my childhood. I don't know why it has become an issue now.

India is becoming a fascist state and it is seeping into every aspect of society. Nobody should be threatened like this. Both Hindus and Muslims are becoming fundamentalists and they are trying to outdo each other. Really shameful.

Bajrangdal and Shivsena are all Goons. Anyone who does not bow down to their commands are fair game for bullying and vandalism. Both needs to be banned. Shivsena is a political party though and now they are in bed with Congress.

India should ban all religious affiliated parties and organizations.

India also has article 295A which prohibits insult to any religion.

We follow our laws. We also support other countries right to follow theirs.

I also told you that such articles will never be allowed under Indian laws. And that India is supporting France in its quest to follow its law within its boundaries.

If I support an entity X for a policy Y, it doesn't necessarily mean I support another policy Z that is implemented by X.

I also told you that such articles will never be allowed under Indian laws. And that India is supporting France in its quest to follow its law within its boundaries.

This is hogwash. You can't stand in moral support of something you yourself don't subscribe to. Saying that India stood in support of France implementing it's law lacks context; India wasn't standing in favor of France giving people speeding tickets for going over the limit.

If there is indeed a law that prohibits insult to any religion, India should scrap it (that would be a good thing in my opinion).

So just because something was happening, it should be allowed to continue? Great logic.

And since when did a fundamentalist, someone believing in the fundamentals, became a bad word?

I suppose we should also ban things like Ganesh agarbattis since we're burning Him.

Having burst crackers through my childhood, I'm a little disappointed with myself for not having been offended by the Lakshmi bomb. Come to think of it, that's a nasty name :mou
