[VIDEO] "My name is Saleem Malik. I would like to apologise to my fans"

So will Salim Malik create a blitztrek in Pakistan Cricket? Me, hoping he will

I just saw the video in the OP in its entirety. Am I the only one here who thinks that in this video he has not accepted guilt or asking forgiveness for a wrong doing. All he has said is, loosely translated, is that

“IF (capitalisation mine) I have hurt fans’ sentiment I apologise”

And

“I should be given a second innings like the others”

And

“ I will cooperate with ICC/ PCB”

Perhaps he’s prepared to make a full admission later, but I want to point out he’s not exactly admitting anything here or apologising for a wrong action.

Played 100 Tests for his country.

Only one of 5 Pak players to do so along with Miandad, Wasim, Younus and Inzi.

I have seen a few of Saleem Malik’s interviews in recent weeks and there is even an element of cheat and dishonesty in his statements where he is seeking forgiveness. The more I have heard Malik the more I have realised that he was rightfully kept away from cricket affairs.

The only thing I would say is that other similar characters should have also been banned.

I am happy to hear he’s taking his road to redemption seriously without resorting to cheap theatrics such as the religion card like Kaneria

He definitely fixed a match or two under Salim Malik. Pressured or whatever. Felt guilty and retired at age 25 even though some said he was the heir to Miandad’s legacy as Pakistan’s leading bat. I think he’s an honest man though. He gave up his career rather than stay in a squad that fixed matches continuously. Takes courage to do that.

He is a nutter but I don't think he fixed any matches. It was the rise of MY that destroyed his career.

"ICC seems to be sleeping but always wake up in my case" : Saleem Malik

Speaking to reporters after submitting his response to PCB questionnaire:

"ICC seems to be sleeping but always in my case it seems to wake up from its sleep"

"Let me say that I dont think the ICC has asked about me in any detail from PCB"

"Thats because anytime a player is given punishment [by their board], the ICC's domain no longer applies"

"Its been 20 years now and the script they have sent is totally malafide"

"The ICC and PCB were asked by the Supreme Court to present any evidence that they had"

"I fought that case for 8 years, and in that time no such questions were presented in the court [by the PCB]"

"So when in Ijaz Butt's time I was asked for coaching, they [PCB] said that ICC is not agreeing to it but then why didnt they mention that in the court case?"

"I feel that there is a lobby against me but I hope with new people in the Board, things will improve"

"I hope that they will give me a reply in 15 days - and I am sure the press will ask them about it"

"I always talk about myself and have never taken the names of other players - they are great players who have served Pakistan well"

"All I say is that everyone should be treated in the same way; if you are treating others well, then you must remember that even I have been responsible for many victories for Pakistan"

"If we talk about the Quyyum judgement then that has no value because he himself has said on TV that I he let off some players, so the judgement is biased"

"The law about dealing with corrupt players should be there but some [tainted] cricketers have already served in the Board"

"I feel that a tough law [against corruption] should be put in place if possible"

"I have been disheartened before, and I did try before to make my case but no one press would take notice - maybe because there wasnt that much awareness but now we have Social Media which helps as well"

"I am a granddad now and I dont like it that someone comes on TV and takes my name in a bad way"

"The punishment on Umar Akmal is very harsh; I dont know what evidence they have against him but I feel its harsh"

It will be interesting to see how Malik defends himself from the questionnaire regarding the 2000 NOTW Sting operation against him because he was very open. Video and audio evidence does not lie. At the time in 2000 he defended himself by saying he was leading them on and was planning to expose them once they got to Pakistan.

Shane Warne and Mark Waugh publicly accused Malik of offering them money to fix a test match in Pakistan's 1994 home test series.

If they were lying then Malik could have easily sued them of slander or defamation. But he was unable to

Funnily enough Australia lost that very test, with a 50+ run last wicket partnership for Pakistan winning them the game

PCB responds to Danish Kaneria and Saleem Malik

Lahore, 10 July 2020:

Pakistan Cricket Board was approached by Mr Danish Kaneria and Mr Saleem Malik on unrelated and separate matters. After carefully reviewing and studying both their requests, the PCB has responded to the two former cricketers.

The synopses of the response is:

Saleem Malik (failure to respond to transcripts provided by ICC of April 2000 conversation)

• You chose not to respond to the contents of the transcripts of a conversation that took place in April 2000

• In the backdrop of the above, the PCB will be unable to proceed any further until such time you respond on the said matter

• The denial and avoidance to respond to the transcripts doesn’t change the admission when, in a 5 May 2014 letter to the then PCB Chairman, you wrote:

o “Sir, after consultations and on my free will, I have reached a decision that I am ready to accept my wrongdoing, apologise to the fans and want to start by rehabilitation process. I fully understand the consequence of my decision and am ready to cooperate to every extent with ICC and PCB for my rehabilitation program. I would request PCB to talk to ICC if required and start my rehabilitation program at the earliest.”

Malik thought it would be easy getting back. Taught a lesson.

Fair enough.

My only criticism would be, why do this now and not many years ago.

Because Inzamam made a youtube video that he should be forgiven. However in the 90s he was literally named by every bookie as their man. Saleem Malik did a half hearted confessional apology video and than back tracked on it the next day. Saying he never admitted to anything just apologized to his fans about God knows what.

And then Kaneria's case is with ECB however he has confessed. And he is demanding exoneration and employment from PCB. While it is ECB who has to forgive him. PCB is bound by ICC rules to respect and honor the ban instated by another member board.

The ball is back in Malik's court.

Respond to the contents of the transcripts of a conversation that took place in April 2000, or clear-off.

And this is his repsonse:

Lahore: Former Pakistan batsman Saleem Malik has stated that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked him to accept match-fixing charges to deceive International Cricket Council (ICC).

Malik said that in 2013, during a meeting with PCB’s high officials. the board asked me to accept charges, get his life ban lifted and start his rehabilitation program.

“The statement PCB is talking about is from 2013 and not 2014. I met then Chairman PCB Najam Sethi, COO Subhan Ahmed, and Legal Counsel Tafazzul Rizvi,” he revealed.

“They asked me to sign the letter, where I signed it and admitted the charges to deceive ICC in order to get my ban lifted. PCB is using the letter against me which is totally absurd,” he added,” he added.

Remember, PCB responded to Malik and stated that he failed to respond to transcripts provided by ICC of April 2000 conversation.

“You chose not to respond to the contents of the transcripts of a conversation that took place in April 2000. In the backdrop of the above, the PCB will be unable to proceed any further until such time you respond on the said matter.”

Board in its press release further added that the denial and avoidance to respond to the transcripts doesn’t change the admission Malik made in a 5 May 2014 letter to the then PCB Chairman.

........

Does Malik realise that he has condemned himself every which way? Either he was guilty of the accusations against him when he pleaded guilty. Or he wasn't guilty of cheating but still pleaded guilty thereby lying to the ICC.

Also, in his own words, either he and PCB together, or separately, conspired to deceive the ICC.

I sometimes feel for Pakistani fans. Pakistani cricket has so many of these individuals who are simply running sores that refuse to disappear.

Fair enough.

I think he is doing it now because his bad name shouldn’t cause a ripple effect on the selection of his son who is now in his 20s looking to make a career in cricket

Big accusations in response by Malik at the PCB.

I hope they aren't true. If they are, then what a mess all this is.

Saleem Malik to submit answer to ICC’s transcript tomorrow

Lahore: Former Test cricketer Saleem Malik is all set to submit his answer to International Cricket Council (ICC)’s transcript tomorrow before Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s anti-corruption unit.

According to details, Malik, with the help of his legal team, has prepared new detailed answers after PCB called the previous answer ‘incomplete’.

This time Malik gave answers to all mentioned questions in more detail and also attached the copies of documents in which he got clearance from the court in corruption case.

It must be noted here that last month Malik submitted his answer in the PCB with a hope to get this matter solved now. “I want this matter to be finished now as I have got clarification from courts. PCB and ICC should also finish this matter and give me another chance,” he was quoted saying.
