I think the biggest problem is the hero worshipism culture In pakistan weather its a mullah from a masjid, a sports person or a politician, pakistanis will follow their hero blindly no matter what. if a mullah says so and so sect is bad pakistanis will not use sense and do their research about that sect instead will blindly believe that sect is bad and will fight amongst them self and go to any extent to prove he and his mullah are 100 percent right or it will hurt their egos same with politician worshippers people just don't have that sense to think for them self, if imran khan says nawaz family are thiefs they will believe imran blindly or if nawaz sharif says imran khan is a terrorist his worshippers will believe it maybe lack of education plays part in this or pakistanis just don't have common sense. Army are probably doing the right thing to keep everything in check Laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante
Yes, that is a problem.
But it’s prevent all over the world.
What do you think? There is no hero worship culture in India that Modi enjoys?
Trump had no worshippers?
The trick is. how to wisely choose your hero who is actually better for the country?
And this is where we tend to have failed, IMO, starting with Zulfikar Ali. Bhutto.
The other part of the mess is the butchered interpretation of Islamic theology that you rightly pointed.
The brain washing by Mullahs is actually a bigger problem.
Many of these Mullahs have opened up their Madrassas where they train the kids about having a focus on stuff in the Islamic doctrine that has lesser importance. For example, length of the beard, raising shalwar over the ankles, tasbeeh, topi. etc -
… and then to make it more attractive, they will show you all the short cuts - falana wazeefa will earn that many palaces in Heaven and falana wird will earn this much hasanat, and falana ammal will donthis and that for you.
Almost none of these Mullahs will tell you to live your life with honesty, avoid cheating, deceiving, avoid haram khori, rishwat khori, dishonesty. and doing injustice to others.
And almost none of these Mullahs will tell you to develop patience, learn how to forgive others, be generous, be kind to your wives, and practice cleanliness - because these are all also part of Sunnah.
The remedy for all these short comings is another short cut that they will tell you - “perform a Hajj and ALL of your sins are wiped out!”
So the net result is, a major part of the nation has become munafiqs.
Pakistani became world number 2 in Hajj attendance but the same nation stands world number 140 on the scale of honesty.
The mosques are full on Fridays, and folks turn up by millions to attend PTI jalsaas, and scores of people participate in milaad ceremonies, but a bitter fact is, a huge majority of these people are simply not honest in their day to day work life.
Just because someone is a PTI member, or he regularly attends Friday prayers or has a long beard, or has a tasbeeh in his hands, doesn’t really mean that he is an honest individual.
These Mullahs thrive on this sale of Islam. This is their business. They have opened madrassas to train the kids and increase the their group size to collect more and more Chanda - no wonder you’ve got the harri paggri, safeed paggri, peeli pagri, sipah Sahaba, Ashiq-e-rasool (saw), Qadiyqni maaro, khatam-enaboovat (saw), Shia, Sunni, deobandi, barailvi, Chishti, Sabri, Qadri and many many other groups formed by these Mullahs.
Countries like Saudia took the right approach. The govt has mandated the Islamic theology and Islamic doctrine.
Every Mullah is bound to abide by this one uniform religious mandate - any mullah who tells anything outside of this mandate and tries to form his own group - gets his head chopped off.
But in Pakistan, we turn the Mullah loose and gave him a free hand to interpret and teach Islamic message as per his own interpretation, and build his own madrassa and form his own religious grouping - and hence the country has become a religious zoo. Big big, big problem.
As for the OP,
It’s a very sad and tragic situation but part of me is also hopeful.
If the country sinks into default, we might get the army’s corrupt portion of its top brass lose appetite and interet in Pakistan’s politics. Their won’t be any money left to hog on.
A new generation may arise from the ruins who may have an overall good intent for the country?
I know it’s just a very faint hope but I guess that’s one of the ways to get out of this mess.
However, the worse side effect is, a bankrupt Pakistan with nuclear arsenal is more dangerous to rest of the world than to itself.
So perhaps the nukes will be taken away or the even worse part is, they won’t let the country go into default.
