[VIDEO/PICTURES] "You [Modi] & your followers have distorted India's image" : Shahid Afridi

‘Modi, his followers have destroyed India’s image in the world,’ Afridi

Pakistan’s former captain, Shahid Afridi attended the Kashmir Hour gathering at the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam in Karachi and said that India and Pakistan were in good relation before Narendra Modi came into the power.

Kashmir Hour was observed in all parts of Pakistan on the appeal of the Prime Minister Imran Khan. He appealed the whole nation to leave everything at 12 noon on Friday and come out on the roads for half-an-hour to express solidarity with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters.

Afridi, wearing Pakistan Army uniform, said that Pakistan does not want conflicts with India, the whole nation and the Premier of the country want to have peace, but there is no response from Modi’s government.

“Not all Indians, but you [Narendra Modi] and your followers have distorted the image India in the world,” he said while talking to media. “There are also educated people in India, who talk sense, listen to them.”

The veteran cricketer mentioned former Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said that the two neighbouring countries had friendly relations under his tenure.

“This era and time is not for war, we and our PM have tried to improve the ties between the two countries, but there is no response from you [Narendra Modi],” he said. “I believe the way you are treating women and children there [in Kashmir], Shahid Afridi and the whole nation will stand united with Pakistan Government and Pakistan Army [against the brutalities].”

“The cap and the shirt I am wearing, I am a soldier of this country and I will remain a soldier of this country,” he said while pointing towards his clothes.

He concluded his talk with a message for Pakistani nation to stay united and do not always wait for a tragedy to show unity.

“I have just one message for people of Pakistan, do not always wait for a tragedy, we should, government, opposition and everyone, stay united,” he said.

The valley has been under curfew since India removed Article 370 from their constitution that gave them the autonomous status. Innocent citizens have been suffering brutalities at the hands of Indian forces, while the life has come to a halt there.

Although the hardcore Indian nationalist would not believe this but unfortunately for them this is fast becoming the narrative across the world. It takes time to change international mindset and Indian government over the last 5 years ain't helping their cause. We all know over last 5 years the narrative of lynchings in India were becoming common and now atrocities in Kashmir will further deepen the international mindset.

There are longterm implications of a mindset and in today's world longterm is hardly 5 years or so. I can see Indian government performing quite poorly in this tenure of 5 years unless they come up with some narrative or story to boost their humanitarian / secular image.

Afridi, 39, came dressed in military uniform to the event, 'Kashmir Hour'. In the wake of the abrogation of Article 370, which regulates the manner in and the extent to which the Constitution of India applies to Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced that a 30-minute event will take place every week in his country to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people

Addressing the gathering, Afridi said: "You (Modi) and your supporters have badly harmed the image of India. There are a number of educated people in India who speak of understanding. You need to hear those people".

The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team said that Prime Minister Imran Khan and others had tried to clarify on the issue.

"India-Pakistan relations were very good during the regime of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. We were visiting each-other, people were happy," he said.

However, since you have come to power... what you did in Gujarat, or what you are doing in Kashmir...is a big sign of ignorance. We have tried our best to improve India-Pakistan ties," he added.

According to a report in Roznama Pakistan, people at the event, organised at Mohammad Ali Jinnah's gravesite, gave Afridi a warm welcome when he arrived clad in Pakistan military attire.

Afridi had earlier called for UN intervention as well as that of the US after the Indian government abrogated the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Afridi with some brutal shots on Modi and his Hindutva crew.

I wonder when the little man will jump into the argument. :)))

Does he remember how Pakistan repaid Vajpayee immediately after his visit to Pakistan in a gesture of peace between the 2 countries?

Man Vajpayee embarrassed India a bunch of times. He has a good name but he was played by Pakistan like a fool more than once. Kargil and also that hijacked flight where India had to release Azhar and the guy that killed Daniel Pearl. Vajpayee was a good man but inefficient.

I still remember the absolute chaos during the hijacking saga. People in India couldn’t sleep at night. I was barely 13 back then, but I still remember the stress and tension we went through. We had no option but to accept the demands.

What about Vajpayee’s connection with Daniel Pearl’s murder?

I was reading news articles about it and it was an intelligence failure. It will always be on Vajpayee though. That and Kargil, both intelligence failures.

Still remember the scene of the passengers sobbing like kids at an Indian airport after they were released. I’ll never forget what the country went through during the whole saga.

India never had a great Image in Pakistan minds. So not sure what distortion is happening.

As per world stage. Most countries treat India as a valuable trading partner. They will not shun India over Kashmir.

This. If anything, the world is bored over this never ending catfight over that pointless slab of ice.

Thats really cute Afridi, however the reality will always remain; no matter how many get together s you have and say fluffy words of support for Kashmiris. We are not going to give Kashmir to you.... :)

Lol, keep fooling yourself, You have already lost Kashmir, no way back now.

Gilgit baltistan + Azad kashmir = 86268 km2

Jammu division + Kashmir valley + Ladakh region = 101387km2

So , technically we have more than u have lol

Don't forget Aksai Chin, you lost nearly 60 % of Kashmir to Pak and China combined.

Kind of true but small correction.

In 1948 India didn't capture or take Aksai Chin as it was always under chinese control , infact in 1956 China even constructed roads in aksai chin connecting Xinjiang & tibet as well . Indian govt came to know abt this road later bcoz there were no indian forces. We claimed it but it wasn't under our control just like China claims Arunachal pradesh since 1959 but it remains in Indian control all the time.

BTW, we gave chinese a bloody nose in 1967 when we captured Sikkim (independent country before 1967) when China tried occupying cho la & nathu la pass to capture sikkim( did u knew it , I m sure u don't lol)

Shahid Afridi speaking during an interview:

“We should definitely play cricket with India. The BJP party was in power before as well, during Vajpayee’s tenure, and we toured India during that period. The only change now is their leader. We are all aware of his past record and his views on Muslims in India. Therefore, I believe this situation should not occur. The duty of a politician is to establish good relations with other countries. Neighbors have significant rights over each other. In my opinion, there is no solution other than cricket. As for the election, you have done what was necessary.”

LOL what?

Neither India nor Pakistan have any 'right' on each other.

This guy never came across as bright or mature. This only proves it.
He should stick to talking about cricket.

Just because you don't understand what he meant doesn't mean that he is not bright or mature.

In our religious tradition the neighbour has many rights over us and we have duties to them. It appears he is extrapolating those rights to mean the rights that neighbouring countries have on each other.

When a muslim says rights of a neighbour this is what they generally mean ( copied and pasted from elsewhere):
Our duty to our neighbors include meeting the following:
  • We should share a meal with our neighbors. Abu Dharr (RA) narrated that Allah’s Apostle (SAW) said to him: “O Abu Dharr! Whenever you prepare a broth, put plenty of water in it, and give some of it to your neighbors”. (Muslim)
  • One must help them if they ask for help.
  • Must ensure the safety of neighbors. Islam stresses keeping a friendly atmosphere in one`s living area so that it would not lead to infringement of someone else`s human rights. Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer! By Allah, he is not a believer.” It was asked, “Who is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “One whose neighbor does not feel safe from his evil”. (Bukhari)
  • Do not harass the neighbors.
  • It is highly advisable to give away some presents to the neighbors in order to promote a culture of harmony and tranquility. Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “O Muslim women! No one of you should consider insignificant (a gift) to give to her neighbor even if it is (a gift of) the trotters of a sheep”. (Muslim)
  • Must visit and take care of your neighbor when he is ill and also attends the funeral of your neighbor when he dies.
  • Congratulate your neighbor if he met with good fortune and also grieve in sympathy if a calamity befalls him.
  • Lend your neighbor a loan if he needs it.
  • Behave politely in attitude and in speech with your neighbors.

Now,, of course,, you can argue that Pakistan itself doesn't fulfil those rights or duties, so wth is Afridi talking about. You have every right to say that. However Afridi was making a positive re-conciliatory point.

Modi is doing to India what Gen Zia did to Pakistan
The Safia Bibi rape case involved the rape of a nearly blind teenaged girl named Safia Bibi in 1982 by her employers, in Sahiwal, Pakistan. When she was unable to prove the rape in court, she herself was charged with fornication under Pakistan's Sharia inspired Hudood Ordinances and sentenced to 3 years in jail, 15 canings and a fine.

On 24 July 1983, Safia was tried and found guilty of Zina (fornication) under the Zina (extramarital) Ordinance, part of the Hudood Ordinances. She was sentenced to public lashings (15 lashes), 3 years jail and Rs 1,000 fine. The facts that she was unmarried and had herself admitted to having become pregnant due to the rape were taken as evidence against her.

Kindly let us know something Modi has done like this.

Modi is correcting all historical mistakes one by one like Article 370, restoring Ram Mandir etc etc and will go down the greatest politician India has ever produced. Haters gonna hate though.
Add to that PM Modi is giving a severe burning to the pseudo seculars of India :inti

Added bonus 😄

This is standard refrain from Pakistanis. They always tell Indians (read Hindus) that you were better in the past and it is only now that you have become bad. But truth is, even in the past, they never liked you. Not a single point in History where they liked you Indians. Pakistanis seek those virtues from Indians which they don't demand even from themselves. These retrospective praises and criticisms are manipulation tools, and lesser indians are falling to this trap now.

Afridi made the "indians are small hearted comment" when indians were supposedly good, in 2011.

I prefer these players to stick to their game without making too much interference in the politics.
