What's new

[VIDEO] Shaheen Shah Afridi - Promising young fast bowler

yeah agree ~ but he needs to be nurtured in the national team set ups and given meaningful opportunities~ I don't buy the give him a few years in club cricket crap.
If he s good enough he s good enough

Nothing wrong with letting him develop as long as he's progressing upwards.

But yes, some guys end up being far too good for domestic cricket at 17-19.

Agreed but there s a equal danger of not challenging him enough and letting him disappear in our very mediocre first class structure.
Your cant help feel that this happens to so many of our raw talents particularly young people from poorer backgrounds who don't have the links/connections to get opportunities
What I would like to see~ is him bowling in the nets against our National team batsmen or/and international players in the PSL team.
If he troubles the batsmen and makes the fitness grade why not draft him into the squad.
Its about testing a hypothesis not getting into the over or underhyping syndrome

im exited already. Wish to see that fire in fast bowling we used to have. Pakistan cricket was always about thrill. fast bowlers and hard hitting batsmen.

Always love having a Pathan fast bowler, they're really exciting to watch if they're quality. The fact that he can bat in the lower order suggests that he's definitely fit to play the modern brand of cricket we're looking to play.

his height is the pretty good for a fast bowler. Now we have Yasir Jan and Shah Afridi to look forward to in PSL

There is a danger of over-hyping him. Bear in mind only a tiny proportion of promising youngsters make it at the top level. So, it's best to be cautious and see how he develops.

However- I understand the hype to some point. He really does look a real talent. Inshallah he will make it.

I see what you are saying, but he does seem to tick a lot of the right boxes. With the right support and guidance he should go far ia.

They all want to take a look at him and possibly sign him.

In fact Javed Afridi wants him at the next Peshawar Zalmi camp.

This is what I like seeing, kind of reminds me of the system here and how scouts come out and pick talented players to play for their respective teams in high school.

Hoping Pakistan can develop a structure where from school days stats can be tracked and these scouts come out to watch and have them trail for their teams. PSL is already benefitting these younger players. Prior to it, chances like this wouldn't have come up.

Looks very exciting. Has the height to extract extra bounce as well. If he is going to play in the PSL , he should sign for the franchise which will give him the most game time. Playing in PSL will put him even more in the limelight.

Nice movement and bounce. Looking good so far.

Anybody to replace the atrocious Junaid.

The same Junaid that finished the CT as the third highest wicket-taker?

At least wait for him to fail before you criticise him.

If there was no PSL I would say fast track him in to the international "squad".

This lad will go down the route of the other talented players we had if he is left to domestic cricket..

Hope he goes to the karachi kings so Azhar and Mickey can work with him.

As others have mentioned he needs to avoid Aquib Javed like the plague

Hopefully he can be what i wished Amad Butt could be

Would love to have him at Karachi Kings.
I think he'll go to Zalmi though, and it might be hard for him to break into a team that already has Hasan, Junaid & Wahab.

How tall is he?? Must be at least 6"5, and the great thing is that he has all the physical attributes to become a world class fast bowler. Needs to be nurtured properly.

There's one thing spotting talent, and there's another developing it.

I sent the video I tweeted to Azhar Mahmood and he is very impressed with Shaheen.

He will be as promising as the great Riaz Afridi! Remember him? Lets not get carried away just yet when he has not even played an international match.

Absolutely.

Long road ahead for him. But it's evident he's got a good foundation to work with.

looks quality. hopefully he plays in Psl and gets fast tracked to national team.

Fantastic talent and slap in the face of the critics of Pakistan cricket. Another credit to the best chief selector we have ever had, Inzamam ul Haq.

Video of Riaz Afridi.
Riaz Afridi vs Umar Akmal when Akmal used to smash fast bowlers for fun. Aqib Javed rated Riaz as the next big thing and called him even an better seam/swing bowler than Asif. Unfulfilled talent :( hope he had reduced his weight :(

What a talent he was! Another wasted talent in Pakistan.

How good is his batting? I know some people were calling him an all-rounder.

His yorkers give me life...

Maybe he can teach the other bowlers we have how to bowl them.

His toe crushing yorkers are treat to the eyes. If his pace increases by another 5-10 clicks he can be a real asset.

I just pray Pakistan team management does not work him to the ground by playing him in every match, every series until he gets injured. Fast bowlers need rest and should not play every single match.

What a talent he was! Another wasted talent in Pakistan.

Yes, but at 70-75 MPH speed...in those days he was too slow even though he had a great outswinger; these days, he would be king in the age of tullay baaz T20 batsmen, just a little swing will get most out!
