"Shaheen went to England by himself, bought the ticket at his own expense": Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi:

"Let me talk about Shaheen Shah Afridi, he went to England by himself, bought the ticket at his own expense, is spending his own money for his expenses in England, I arranged the doctor for him from here, he spoke to the doctor there, he is doing everything himself, the PCB is not doing anything"

These are shocking revelations and PCB must respond.

Ridiculous if true. PCB couldnt be bothered to take care of their star player- are they broke?

Shahid Afridi is a forever loose canon and i highly doubt what he is saying is true

Lets wait for PCB view first because shahid Afridi is least trustable person .

Rameez is more busy filling up the pockets of Mathew Hayden

yes he is a loose canon but i really doubt he will make something like this up. PCB must be in hot waters for this blunder.

Surely this can't be right.

I know in the past, some players have had to come to the Uk for treatment and their domestic teams wouldn't cover the expenses.

But surely for a centrally contracted player PCB would cover all costs wouldn't they.

Not just a centrally contracted player, but quite possibly the backbone of our bowling lineup

Can pakpassion confirm if this is true

From PCB;

The PCB is also pleased to advise and update that Shaheen Shah Afridi is making excellent progress in his rehabilitation in London and is on track to make a full recovery in time for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022.

It goes without saying that the PCB has always been and will continue to be responsible for arranging medical care and rehabilitation of all its players requiring any treatment.

Shahid Afridi is hardly known for his dishonesty. He is only trying to publicize his future son in law. For surely the PCB will be involved one way or another. I want to hear Shaheen say what Shahid is.

It cannot be true. PCB may have advised him to use his corp credit card for tckets etc and they will reimburse or pay the bill.

PCB confirmed that he went on his own and PCB will reimburse. This is shambolic, raja must go.

Don't know why they have to go to England and USA for every thing, there are very good doctors in Pakistan for every specialty , both locally trained and US and British trained .

To some extent I agree.
They CAN find western trained high quality physicians in Pakistan.

Also, these players already get paid by PCB quite a bit and by playing leagues, they earn enough in a year that perhaps 90% of Pakistanis won’t earn in a decade.

Shouldn’t be a financially big deal for these high net worth individuals to travel to UK and seek medical help as a form of luxury.

This statement neatly avoids saying who sent Shaheen Afridi to England. PCB or himself.

Why would Afridi make such claims then? He is our star player, and the PCB are responsible for him being injured due to the amount of cricket they made him play. I hope they are paying for him

I've been to almost every renowned orthopaedic surgeon in Pakistan for consultations after I tore my ACL and the best one's told me don't get surgery in Pakistan.

I still got it reconstructed in Pakistan and will live to regret it forever.

PCB could have clarified this further, but they left an ambiguity which will be used by their detractors.

PCB basically confirmed that Shaheen did travel on his own expense. Also, Shahid Afridi would not make this claim without confirmation; I am sure he talks to Shaheen on a daily basis.

Hafeez was right - PCB's handling of Shaheen has been criminal. I cannot believe Ramiz Raja, who comes across as a quite a sensible guy, would let such a big slip-up happen. Shaheen is your most precious asset right now, how can you not be making every ounce of effort to get him back in the team at 100% fitness? That should be on PCB's top priority!

Unbelievable this and I do think PCB should be held accountable this. Now saying that he will be reimbursed does not mean anything.

Because Afridi is right. PCB will only be reimbursing Shaheen after all the hue and cry; hence, the ambiguity in their response.

PCB issued a lawyer type statement. Its very ambiguous. They obviously made a blunder but are not brave enough to admit.

Did he SSA pay out of pocket or did his PSL franchise pay for it? Rajdeep cricketjoshila would probably know better but don’t MI players prefer the franchise medical and training facilities than the NCA? Could be the same here. sometimes the lines between private franchises and official cricket board are blurred.

Normally an employee spends his money and gets reimbursed later once he submits invoices after business trip or a trip to the doctor. Probably thats case here

Yes for airplane tickets not for a specialized super- expensive rehab and medical treatments.

Wasim Akram speaking on TV regarding Shahid Afridi's claims:

“Yeh bohot shocking he. He is one of our top...he is box-office. Aur agar yeh ladke ko hum nehin dekhenge, aur yeh sach he, toh yeh zyadati he. He should have straightaway been sent to the best knee surgeon in the world. But woh akela kar raha he yeh sab...as I said I'm still shocked about it"

Wow. This is beyond pathetic.

This Pathetic Cricket Board wants to compete with professional organisms, lol.

Also, from this exact moment my mindset towards IPL/PSL etc. just changed drastically.

The teams in all these leagues take care of their employees. Unlike PCB's leeches who travel around the world, stay in hotels, eat, drink and gamble etc. all on money which should be spent on talent.

This is awful.

Shame on you PCB!

Horrible look on PCB and it's confusing that for years and decades, after seeing bowlers get injured and wasted away, they haven't done everything they can for Shaheen's health.

And for the player to initially pay for his own costs too and reimbursing is so absurd. Like why do this at all? Just cover the costs at the very least. How can you treat your best bowler & star of the team like this?

Players should honestly fight for a union to get adequate pay & their health being taken care of.

It’s most likely true

PCB wanted to treat his injury by keeping him in the traveling squad and be attended to by the on duty doctors

Incredibly disgusting. Most leechy board in existence that cries to have star players and then treats them like **** when they accidentally land upon one.

Even ramizs reply is vague and doesnt address the point straight

How hard is it to say "the statement by afridi isnt true whatsoever and that the pcb is fully and 100% funding shaheens medical treatment and will continue to do until hes fully fit "

From what i understood it definitely seems that there was some miscommunication but the board is covering all expenses.

This is terrible, one thing is if there is an agreement in place where the players pay the Expenses and then get them reimbursed, but here PCB has taken some action after it was all over the media.

Wow, that says it all about how unprofessional they are.

Surprising to see Ramiz letting something like this happen.

And the amount of money waste on on irrelevance is even more upsetting. You have irrelevant positions to accommodate cronies and then office expenses for an imaginary job then extra support staff as well as tickets and travel expenses for them and their families. And this is the same in most gov departments in Pakistan. If you are used to how things are run in England all of this will be unbelievable but if you live in Pakistan its normal

Very poor from.Ramiz He talks a great game but in reality cant put his words into action

World Cup is arriving, so time to be popular again.

Wait n watch alot of statements will be coming out. Please advise if there is a thread where all these statement from ex cricketers are recorded .

Questions we must ask:

1. Does PCB operate a system to allow players and staff to submit expenses?
2. If yes to the above, was Shaheen trained on how to submit expenses to the PCB?
3. If yes to the above, has he grasped how to use the website/app to be able to do this?

It would be interesting to know what the responses are for the questions posed here.

What’s basically happened according to my understanding is that the PCB wanted to cover the costs of his treatment through their own medical doctors and facilities. Shaheen must have been advised by ex professionals and experts to travel abroad and seek better treatment. Knowing the cost of this, the PCB may have refused and this could well be what they have done in the past to other players.

So Afridi stepped in and did the right thing, and he also knew that he will get the money back because he will make a big hoo haa out of this one way or another.

Truly shameful.

More than the expenses (which is obviously unacceptable), it appears they're also taking a half-hearted approach with Shaheen's treatment. Otherwise, the board would be handling everything from the moment he leaves Pakistan to when he arrives post-treatment.

This is a foundational element of any sports organization and should be one of the first places your funding goes when building a successful operation.

Just think, how many players in history have been deserted like this?

Maybe the great emperor Ramiz can explain how he feels it is ok to fill up the pockets of guys like Mathew Hayden, and all of those freeloaders in the PJL but not spend the money on the Men that is making the cash flow in for him?

To think, all of those PCB officials and their families that have toured with Pakistan, hotel accommodations and travel expenses. Usman Qadir getting free tickets with family for pretty much offering nothing etc..

But they couldn’t cough up the cash for their prized asset unless the dirty laundry was out in the public

Just think, how many players in history have been deserted like this?

Prob only the best talents!

Surely this should be part of the central contract regarding injuries.

Imo PCB sent him off without help in anyway, otherwise they would have given a clear statement.

PCB should organise everything, even send an official with him because not only is he a fast bowler, he is one of the best talents in history.

Good on Lala to bring this out, hopefully PCB will change its ways now.

MI or even CSK players prefer their franchisee medical facilities. Some of the franchisees go a long way to help out their players.

I think he must be having contract with a player management company which would have assigned him a manager, who look after his advertisement offers, contracts and take care of such things as well.

Salman Butt speaking on this issue

"The board said that it will reimburse the expenses of the treatment. Aren't the medical expenses of a player come under the central contract? Central contract covers treatment of the players, even if he is a state player. Why are they talking about giving reimbursement? Why does the player have to spend money for his treatment? Isn't the medical panel recommended by the board?"

"You tour different countries throughout the year and you can't even book a ticket for the player. Players shouldn't be bothered with all this. If there was an emergency, you can probably ask the player to go ahead, and you can later reimburse the expenses. But in this case, the player was with you for three tours, and you knew that you'll have to send him for treatment. Even if you didn't knew, there should've been a back up plan"
