The bat of Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim found an unlikely buyer in Pakistani cricketer ShahidAfridi, who agreed to buy the memorabilia for his foundation at $20,000 ( Tk 17 lakh approximately), said an official on Friday.

Mushfiq put the bat, with which he scored Bangladesh’s first Test double hundred in 2013 against Sri Lanka, in auction earlier this week, but the process had to be suspended due to some fake bidding.

The auction was jointly operated by his management partner NIBCO, Sports for Life and Pickaboo.com.

Chief executive officer of Pickaboo.com, Morin Talukder, told New Age that after some initial hiccups they finally got the right buyer in ShahidAfridi Foundation, who confirmed their interest through official letter.

‘We have received email in official letterhead from ShahidAfridi foundation. They confirmed that they will be buying the bat for $20, 000,’ he said.

ShahidAfridi Foundation was initiated in 2014 by former Pakistan cricketer ShahidAfridi to carry out philanthropic activities in Pakistan and abroad.

The same platform also put a few other memorabilia, such as the bat of MosaddekHossain, Naim Sheikh, a signed cap by Mashrafee bin Murtaza, with an aim to raise funds for coronavirus affected people.

Part of this fund will go to non-profitorganisation BRAC for cash disbursement among the marginal people while the player concerned will spend the rest of the money in his own way.

Morin added that some other items were also catching buyer’s attractions.

‘We are having good response for the batting gloves and jersey of Akbar Ali, which he wore during the final of ICC U-19 World Cup. Mashrafee's signed cap is also in popular demand,’ he said.

A spokesperson of BRAC told New Age that the proceeds from this venture will go to the fund through which they are disbursing Tk 1,500 cash incentives per family in this pandemic situation.

What size is it? :inti

Good on Afridi, even though Bangladesh goverment is not pro Pakistan. Didnt Mushy also refuse to tour Pakistan?

Wonderful gesture, this too for someone who recently refused to go to Shahid Afridi's homeland.

He should sell it for $25k for his own foundation lol

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth (Jesus in Matthew 6:3)

Looks to me that this person (I hope I m wrong) is more interested in publicity than in actual charity work.
It's no excuse that more ppl will donate looking at those pics. But might b interested in joining politics not sure though I m just guessing

It was a public auction. You can't really hide the outcome.
