Again Shoaib showing absolutely no spine, not even defending his friend vigorously or aggressively, folding his hands like a servant in front of a master. Disgraceful and embarrassing stuff really.

GG: I am good friends with Pakistani players like Shoaib Akhtar, Kamran Akmal etc. but on the field, you can't stay best friends as opponents want to make their own team win. Shahid Afridi's brain hasn't developed as per his age. Just as his age doesn't increase, his brain capacity doesn't increase so we shouldn't take his comments seriously.

SA: Shahid Afridi is a very nice person and I was with him last night. There is a bit of a misunderstanding between him and Gambhir. Both are great guys. I respect them both deeply. Their misunderstanding was never resolved and I am sure when they meet, they will hug each other and become friends. Gambhir on the field is a tough competitor but off the field, I don't think there is a better person than him in the Indian team.

GG: Irrespective of the situation, when India and Pakistan plays then it's a pressure match. Whoever does better in the pressure moments will fare better. As a team, the Indian team is far superior to Pakistan - batting, bowling and in any condition. Man to man, India is far better but there will be pressure on both teams. I think India have recently handled pressure better.

SA: In run chases, the best in the past few years is Kohli. He has proved this in every format, acceleration in the shorter formats and temperament etc. in Tests. He has led the Indian team very well and is taking pressure and is making the team win in tough situations.

Gambhir is such a loser at life. A small, angry troll is all he is. Like I said before, Afridi is twice the man that Gambhir is.

Akhtar stayed classy which is good. No need to try and reason with a troll. Won't get you anywhere.

May be Akhtar likes when opponents slam Pak cricketers. He may have a few tiffs with former players and probably enjoying it.

Disgraceful. Everyone knows that Gambhir is a joker but Akhtar should've shown some cojones here and shut this angry midget up. Although there really is no point in arguing with such a bitter guy.

Disgusting, boils my blood. Ghambir is a hot headed individual as we all know, his beef is not only with afridi but with plenty of players. shoaib should have shown this midget his place.

What was so wrong about Gambhir in this video. Agreed Sehwags was over the top. But what is the problem here. Is it the fact that he said Indian team is miles better than Pakistan currently? Which is true. Or that Indian bowling better than Pakistan? Also true. If you cannot face facts then don't blame the person saying those. :hysterical:

What I don't approve is the constant jabs these ex Indian players take at Pakistan knowing that they are putting their guest Pakistani speakers in a difficult position. If anyone honestly thinks Akhtar doesn't want to reply on their level then they really don't have a clue of how much of a good job he is doing by not losing his temper. I'm sure these paper lions will get a befitting reply when the time is write

LMAO Gambhir still burning from what Afridi said to him during that match. Such a small man..

Also there is a possibility of such talks being scripted to spice up things on such shows. Afridi singles out Gambhir first. This was Gambhir chance to do so.

I didnt watch the video, didn't want to see Ghambir his annoyinh face but Im sure het would never ever have a big mouth in front of Afridi in real life.

Afridi would beat 24 different kind of shits out of Ghambir with his Pathan power :afridi

No qualms with Gambhir saying India were red hot favorites and the better side which cannot be denied, but Akhtar should at-least have defended Afridi with more vigour here. Disappointing stuff.

Thank you. But now tell me. Didn't afridi singled out gambhir first. Why do you expect Gambhir to say nice things about Afridi when Afridi singled out him publicly.

if you are following the controversy its the midget who keeps bringing the beef ;) no pun intended

Akhtar would have eaten both this little joker and the other clown alive, but he is just holding back because firstly it is Ramadan and secondly he is the guest there. Otherwise we all know how he talks and behaves.

Afridi > any Indian alive

Totally agree with you. Especially the bolded part. Afridi is a legit Alfa.

This midget can dream and still would be a 1/100th the man Afridi ever was (on his worst day).

Almost all Indian players are very friendly with Afridi except Gambhir.

Gambhir is an angry man. Too intense. He picked a fight with Kohli also

I fail to understand what did Gambhir say wrong here?

He called Afridi immature-then again who hasn't called Afridi immature-fair enough in a public forum that might be a debatable point of Gambhir should have said that even though I don't think we need to make too much of it.

Apart from that he only spoke facts

So not sure what the issue is with Gambhir here?

Yes If I may add Sehwag was over the top and cringeworthy but nothing wrong with what Gambhir said now I don't get why some people are going over the top in a cringeworthy reaction towards him

Exactly. Sehwag's was rubbish. But don't think Gambhir was being disrespectful (except for Afridi which is mutual) here.

I watched the video and apart from the Afridi part I think it was a good video. Gambhir said India are clear favourites but he also warned against Amir, Riaz, Ali, Malik and Babar.

Give it a rest. I think OP is being paid by these channels to promote content

People are attacking Gambhir based on the OP's description. Had they bothered to watch the video, they would realize that Gambhir was not being disrespectful at all.

"Afridi's brain never developed" : Gautam Gambhir throws toys out of the pram again

Gautam Gambhir:

"I have said before as well that Afridi's brain never developed"

"Everyone knows that his age doesn't increase and similarly his brain never increase either."

"Due to this I don't take his recent comments that seriously"

"Asides from Afridi I have great relationships with other Pakistani cricketers but ofcourse when there is a match we are all trying to win for our country"

Shoaib Akhar:

"There has been a misunderstanding between the two which was never resolved unfortunately. Afridi is a great guy and gets along well with everyone."

Lolol :)))

TEN YEARS! I wonder what afridi said on that fateful day?

Did he make fun of his height lmao?

Btw Gambhirs response is hilarious

This is exactly the 'comeback' a teenager would have :))

"Due to this I don't take his recent comments that seriously" then proceeds to throw a tantrum. :))

I want to know what Afridi said that Gambhir is still burning TEN years after :))) :))) :)))

:salute :salute

Must have been some epic roast.

I guess Afridi made fun of his feminine like features....That's probably the only reason why this ****** still holds a grudge TEN YEARS DOWN THE LINE.....

#SMH

"DONT MAKE FUN OF ME!"

LOL
:))
Wth do you mean-"Throws toys out of pram?"

Every year he says he doesn't care but then throws his toys out of the pram

These comments are exactly that lmao

Must've been something like....'Itnay Chotay Hatoon Say Bat Kaisay Pakrta hay Mere Jaan.......???' :))) :))) :)))

What do you mean "toys?" Is this some kind of phrase? And what the hell does "pram" mean?

What do you mean "toys?" Is this some kind of phrase? And what the hell does "pram" mean?

It is a another way of labeling someone who shows childish behavior, in this case (and justifiably) as well, Gambhir.

I am pretty certain you know what a pram is (the stroller for babies) and when infants don't get to do what they want they usually throw a tantrum and spill all their pram toys out on the floor. This analogy is known as throwing toys out of the pram and is used to describe anyone who, being an adult, displays infant like behavior.

I think since you live in the US you won't necessarily come across this kind of a phrase that often, it's quite a British way of saying that someone is behaving childishly.

I think its not afridi only, this guy is hot headed gets in fight with everyone the typical nationalistic kinda of wannabes. Sehwag is no different just more sarcastic!

Chotey loug, choti baaten, in baaton ka kya eitraaz karna yaar, nazar andaz karo.

It is an english idiom to behave like a child and throw tantrums.
Throw toys out of the pram

And pram = baby stroller

Thanks

This is why nobody likes England.

Even Afridi speaks American English. :afridi

Afridi is not dumb, the guy has a proper foundation, can create an impression on people and was received by the Mayor of Toronto John Torry who even welcomed him in front of the full fledged Canadian Media. Afridi has also been honoured by the Mayor of Texas.

I doubt whether anybody will even know Gambhir outside India.

Mayor of Texas? Texas is a state hence has a Governor. And the current Gov. of Texas like his predecessor is a right wing tool.
Maybe you menat Mayor of Houston which has a large Pakistani diaspora

I would rather have moved to England than US. I don't wana disclose my social media ID etc.

Poor thread with some poor comments.

I don't have any interest in defending Gambhir because he has made some poor statements in the past, but his statements today have been taken out of context.

It seems like everyone is jumping on the same train without bothering to take 15 minutes and actually watch the video.

The host told Gambhir that some time back, Afridi made a statement that he can be friends with anyone in the Indian team except Gambhir, who has never been on good terms with any Pakistani player.

Gambhir simply responded to that accusation that you can ask Shoaib about my relations with Pakistani players and that I'm friends with Kamran etc., before he proceeded to make these comments about Afridi.

In this context, we cannot blame Gambhir for such comments. What was he expected to say?

'Yes Afridi is right, I hate Pakistani players'?

It was actually the host who decided to kick the hornet's nest by needlessly bringing the animosity between Afridi and Gambhir to the table. Unlike Sehwag, Gambhir did not make any uncouth comments and talked about cricket only.

It seems like people took Savak's bait a little too easily. It is always better to watch for yourself rather than relying on the agenda of someone else.

Anyway, this will fall on deaf ears so I will let you guys dance.

So it got merged while I was typing. Good job by the mods, it was a pointless thread.

Read my post in the other thread, a couple of posts before you.

The only chota insaan was the host. Both Gambhir and Akhtar handled themselves well.

There was absolutely no need to bring in age or brain development and the like

Those are pathetic comments.

He could have taken a dig at Afridi anyway without throwing himself in the gutter

Gambhir handled himself like the insecure, paindoo he is

Gambhir has no reason to be insecure. He has achieved more for India than Afridi has for Pakistan, in spite of having a much shorter career. Even in head to head encounters, Gambhir has trumped Afridi when it mattered.

However, he has dragged the incident with Afridi for more a decade now which puts him in poor light, but I don't blame him for his response today.

You're a smart man. Were Gambhir's comments appropriate? He could have answered that question in a million different ways or even ignored the question all-together instead of insulting Afridi's intelligence and his age.

Gambhir is pathetic tool, his issues with his teammates are well-known as well. Unlike Sehwag, this isn't banter, this is straight up disrespecting another man, who has children who will get to read these comments that some ugly troll made about their father.

No need to needlessly play the devil's advocate in every single thread. What is wrong is wrong.

He definitely has a massive inferiority complex and that cannot be undone with cricketing achievements. As I said it could be because of his height or effeminate nature which makes him show faux aggression on the field even.

These comments from him lack any class

That incident with Gambhir aside I do find Afridi to be incredibly immature for his age. It is his body language and comments that are off a child instead of a grown up man.

They were not appropriate intrinsically, but the host put him on the spot with a loaded question. A smarter and more dignified individual would have handled the situation better, but of course Gambhir has a history of being a bitter person.

He has had issues with many players and hasn't even spared Kohli. However, the way some people are attacking him based on these comments today is something that I don't agree with, and I am willing to give him benefit of doubt because he handled himself well throughout the interview unlike Sehwag.

I'm not playing anyone's advocate because I have no reason - and no interest - in defending him, but I am disappointed that some people have started to attack him without bothering to watch the video and understanding the context in which those comments were made.

He has had issues with Kamran (whom he called a friend in this video) and even Kohli, so it more of a case of petulance rather than a complex.

While his views on Afridi are inappropriate, they are actually quite spot on, which is why I generally don't give a second thought to those statements, and the fact that I really admire him as a player plays a role too.

This would be asking to Afridi saying that 'Gambhir never grew out of his 16 year old body." Those too would be spot on but classless and I would lambast Afridi for that.

He deserves every single word coming his way. An absolutely torrid human being. The context is clear for anyone who isn't blinded by their love for his batting, this isn't the first time he's needlessly insulted Afridi on national TV and as you admit, someone with a little more dignity would have refrained from making these statements about another person.

Gambhir could have handled the situation differently like by laughing and be like No there is no problem as such, i get along with all Pakistani players, that episode happened 10 years ago, it is no biggie.

Akhtar had a fight with Harbhajan, yet they were on a Comedy show together a few years later.

And in any case Afridi's Global appeal is far greater than Gambhir who had to be kicked out of his own team by his board.

Shoaib is handling these awkward interviews with petulant Indian ex cricketers like a champ.

Absolutely unnecessary comments from Gambhir. He needs to move on from disrespecting Afridi now. I liked him as a player but as a person he comes across as very bitter.

Disgraceful. Everyone knows that Gambhir is a joker but Akhtar should've shown some cojones here and shut this angry midget up. Although there really is no point in arguing with such a bitter guy.

He may loose our hearts but is earning some repute for himself and Pakistan as well

Was laughing out at mamoons posts, but after watching the video...Ghambir was truly professional and came out with nothing exaggerated.

Not sure how much more he has achieved for India, he has the 2007 T-20 WC and the 2011 WC, Afridi has the 2009 WC but their body of work is not significantly different. Gambhir was actually thrown out of the team in his prime which should be a lot more shameful.

Let's make a charity boxing match

Afridi vs Gambir

Anyone who has shaken hands with Afridi vouches for the fact that he has the strongest handshake in history. I can pretty much bet every dollar that Afridi definately punches hard as well. One big shot on Gambhir's face and its game over.

Seems like someone is living with a napolean complex lol.

They are both bitter men, gambhir and afraid I. They were both dumped when they desperately wanted to continue playing and sometimes this bitterness shows up in their words

Lol at thrown out of the team in his prime and talking about it as if its a bad thing. India is a professional team and Gambhir had a downturn in form so was removed from the team. India subsequently went on to whitewash Australia and win the ct undefeated.

Afridi despite inferior achievements kept playing way way past his prime. He should have quit in 2011 but he kept on going and this has led to debacles like the 2016 wt20.

Afridi's achievements are not inferior to Gautam Gambhir's. Afridi was in good form in 2013, 2014 unlike Gambhir.

If Afridi was Indian he would have been thrown out of the team after three years.

All of that generation of Pakistanis are mediocre - Malik, Hafeez, Kaneria, Kamran. The Younis, Misbah, Moyo, Akhtar was the last good generation of Pakistani players.

Just because you didn't have replacement for Afridi and kept on carrying him for decades doesn't make him a better player. He wouldn't make team of any other international team.

Afridi's achievements are not inferior to Gautam Gambhir's. Afridi was in good form in 2013, 2014 unlike Gambhir.

They are. Gambhir has won WT20, WC with great performances in the finals. Also was part of the team that lead India to no 1 rankings. His performance wavered so he was removed. Afridi averaged 24 with the bat and 35 with the ball in 2013-14 so I have no idea how he was in good form. Afridi's averages are poor both in batting and bowling. The only achievements he has are longevity ones with number of wickets etc which anyone could take provided he kept getting chances after being so mediocre. Now some smart alec Pakistani will say - isn't that the same case with Sachin. No, cause he made all those runs with a GREAT average. Quality along with quantity. Afridi is just quantity. Cook also one guy with quantity (Also has a bit of quality as well) but he isn't greater than Viv etc now is he just cause he has so many runs?

a) nothing untoward in Gambhir's comments

b) Akhtar did paint Afridi with a better picture, he does not have to defend each Pakistani player "vigorously". His replies were complete and sufficient Savak

Gambhir was a specialist batsman. Afridi was a bowling allrounder, there is a difference and his averages are just about reasonable for a bits and pieces cricketer. No one is comparing Afridi with Sachin but Gambhir is a different story all together. Afridi too has won a T-20 WC for his country. Afridi being an allrounder that also a match winning one offers more utility to his side.

Gambhir was only good for 2-3 years at best and please India's no 1 ranking only lasted for like how long 4-5 months, Pakistan's no 1 ranking lasted for 1-2 months but no one is harping about the Pakistani players who played an instrumental role in that no 1 ranking like Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq being world beaters (Who mind you are better players than Gambhir in test Cricket) being world beaters. The fact that Gambhir couldn't come back and rediscover his form when he was in his prime should go against him.

Afridi got dropped, performed, earned a recall and came back. You don't just get Quantity for nothing, it takes mental strength, guts to keep coming back.

I am not saying Afridi is better than Gambhir but the gap isn't that big.

What's the problem with this comment?

Every second person states the same on this forum everyday and twice on Sundays.

The first time we reached #1 rankings in Tests, we remained there for almost 2 years.

Fair enough, on video it does look a little offensive, I earlier thought he'd made it in a lighter mode, but he was serious.

Cant expect a dignified response from Gambhir for a player he's had an a brawl with. No big deal
