Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has heaped praise on opening batsman Shan Masood for his dedication after showcasing remarkable form in the ongoing County Championship 2022.

"I was completely sure that Shan Masood will perform in the county championship. I'm impressed with his hard work and technique. The PCB selection committee must utilize the performance of Shan Masood and he should be adjusted across all three formats of the game for Pakistan," said Mohammad Hafeez in an interview.

The left-handed opening batsman has failed to break into the Pakistan Test team and was also left out of the recent home series against Australia. However, Hafeez believes that Shan has performed well enough to make a deserving comeback.

Furthermore, Hafeez also complimented Shan for improving his limited-overs game as well.

"Shan Masood should definitely play in Test matches for Pakistan but he can also be utilised in T20 WorldCup 2022 in Australia," he said.

"There was a time when county cricket polished skills of players but for now standard of county cricket is not like it used to be five decades back. However, county cricket allows players to dominate individually," Hafeez concluded.

Can the Phoenix do it today? Will it even come down to him, and if it does, will he be able to keep the promises made to fans and finally perform in this all important game?

Chase is on, brothers.

Tough call for him but seems to be making an effort.

He is an ideal ODI player, will be crucial no 4 in the next ODI world cup.

Strike rate of 133 is simply NOT good enough for a designated T20 batsman.

Yes, today all other batters failed and he made some runs but failed to capitalize on the start he got.

Disappointed that he failed to finish it off.

He is not a T20 batsman, whether someone likes it or not.

Fair play, he gave us some hope after smashing Livingston, only for Babar to mess everything up by not being able to read a googly.

Basically took the pressure off Babar after that over only for Babar to put the pressure back on🤣

Indeed and an ideal no. 3 in tests to replace Azhar Ali.. He has improved leaps and bounds.. Showed his big match temperament ysday,.

The big elephant in the room is Rizwan , blocks Fakhar opening in T20Is and also Shan as no.4 in ODIs I believe..

Pakistan get to play top teams only once or twice in a year, rest they play SRL, ZIM, WEST, BAN, IRE and NED. Rizwan will keep his stats up right there against these oppositions...

He played well yesterday, but that is the best he can do. Is it enough? Clearly not.

Shan Masood at his best would give you an average of 35 in Tests and ODIs and a 40 odd at a modest SR in T20Is.

Shan Masood at his worst is basically a tailender.

He is clearly not international cricket material but after 10 years, we are still not prepared to accept this fact.

It is criminal that he is keeping Haris Sohail out of the team. Haris with bad knees and a pack of cigarettes in his pocket is a far more valuable asset than Masood doing bench-press in the gym.

They made a mistake of sending him at no.4 opposed to opening or no.3, I think it would have helped Harris also if he came in after Shan who soaked up the pressure. Tbh Shan surprised me this tournament, he has been one of your best players in the tournament, never looked under pressure and found the gaps with ease, he filled the hole in the middle order well. Harris Sohail is class but made out of glass and I don’t see him as a guy who works hard on his fitness

He had an ok world cup with some decent knocks.

Now is the time to thank him for his services and let him enjoy a long country career where he can make a legacy in England FC with Yorkshire. He can then retire to the comm box and enjoy a great post retirement career.

He is too old to be considered for 2024 and didn't really show enough to be considered for an ODI slot.

Masood was Pakistan's best batsman in Australia especially on the tough pitches of Perth and MCG. He is the only one who showed that technically he belonged there.

He could have played a match/WC winning innings yesterday but got out to a nothing shot which completely derailed the innings. Was looking so good with Babar out there but lost confidence after his dismissal

Shan Masood about the final:

"When Babar and I were batting, we built a very good platform and then lost two wickets. We recovered that with Shadab and myself and then I don't think we finished well and I think me and Shadab hold ourselves accountable for not staying there"

"There were stages, especially with the bat where we could have finished the innings really well. Personally, I take the blame for it. I thought that we were aiming for 170 and having looked at how the innings ended, maybe we could have used a batsman staying until the end and getting us to 155-160 which looked very good on a pitch that did something."

"At the end in that crucial period where we lost Shaheen, we could have done with his two overs at the end.

"We're a bit disappointed. We couldn't seal it in the crucial moments. England were very good in those crucial moments. I thought they came at us both with the bat and the ball"

Unfortunately that’s not how we do things in Pakistan. We’re dreaming if we’re thinking he’s gonna retire. He’s gonna play in the 2024 t20 WC, or at least aim for it.

For a Pakistani, up to the age of 40-41 is fair game post Misbah. Malik and Hafeez both stayed beyond their time into 40. Don’t be surprised if Shan and others do it too.

He over achieved in this WC for sure. He’s hit his limit and should be shelved, but will continue because we don’t really build for the future.

He threw his wicket at an impitant stage him and Shadab with little more sense could have taken the score to 160.

If Haris Sohail isn't fit for the odi world cup then Shan Masood should bat at .

He won’t be to old for 2024 WC. He will be 35 max. That’s not an age to write of someone’s international career.

How I agree he does not really add much value to the t20 team especially as Babar , Rizwan and him are like for like .

He did show intent in the final and did not go into a shell .
He could be useful at 4 in the 50 over format .

Leach to Masood, OUT

bowled him reverse-sweeping! Masood's proactivity brings about his downfall... did the open spaces on the off side tempt him into looking to manufacture a scoring opportunity? Whatever, England have got their first. Skidded a touch low, clipped the bottom edge and then into leg stump

Where is the 2.0? Just got out playing a STUPID shot!

CRAZY? WHY DID HE PLAY THIS SHOT?

Thought he got a wasila from Brook.

Good job he can sugarcoat it with his privately educated English

Was a big fan of Shan 2.0 initially, but Shan 3.0 ain’t it. Not good enough. Hence no Shan 3.0 thread.

Pakistanis: why can’t Pakistani batsmen play more aggressive shots, show more intent and play sweep/reverse sweep like modern batsmen do.

Also Pakistanis: how can you play that shot.

Unfortunately you can't teach judgement. That's inherent.

Shan Masood is in the squad for his average command of English. Churchill he's not

Are my eyes deceiving me? Shan scoring at sr of 170+ ?!

Could this be his tournament turning innings?

OKish, I would say.

The first 6 of the game came in the 7th over.

I also think averages caught up and he played a one off good innings and could play another or two such innings.

But in reality, we all know, dow takkay ka player nahi hai. An ultra parchi of the parchies.

He naturally hits everything to the ground. Will hit the odd six once every 25 balls

He’s going to perform at some point if you give him 100 chances. Nothing special, played against a weak bowling attack.

The luckiest cricketer to exist, if Multan were at the bottom he’d have been dropped after 2 games.

He’s being backed by all the journalists, PCB, Mickey and daddy.

I want to support him but I can’t, he’s taking up a spot in the national team that belongs to someone else, and he knows it.

Expect another 50 in his next match, which will be against KK again.

That's the risk MS run in opening with Shan and Rizwan though isn't it.

Neither are big hitters.

But it's worked for them so far because the likes of Roussouw have been in very good form.

parchi tha, parchi hai, parchi rahay ga... if u give me that many chances, heck i will perform better than this shmuck... and i am blind in both eyes...

Rizwan has clearly given a lot of confidence to Shan and it has paid off.

I am certain we would have heard Shan singing praise to his captain had it been him who won the MOTM award.
