[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Babar Azam v2.0: Performance Watch

Most laughable thing I’ve heard.

If I were you, I would be more worried about you obvious pro-Babar agenda. You’ve still failed to explain why you conveniently skipped the tournaments where Babar underperformed. Was it because his disastrous 2022 WT20 showing embarrassed you just as much as it did him?

You basically exposed your agenda for everyone to see.

I guess you thought we had forgotten that Babar averaged under 20 with a strike rate of less than run a ball in the 2022 WT20. I’m not so concerned with the average because all players can lose form but that strike rate is unforgivable and should’ve led to his retirement in the shortest format. I suspect this is why you were selective with the stats you chose to disclose.

You must’ve started watching cricket in 2024.

I have watched YK and Babar closely throughout their careers for Pakistan, so once again, you're wrong.

Younis should not even be mentioned in the same breath as Babar in limited overs as a batsman. Babar is ranked among the best in the world. Younis probably wasn’t even top 20 of his time and that’s being generous.

It’s misguided and frankly ignorant to judge a 2000s batter by today’s strike rate standards, given how dramatically white ball cricket has evolved since then. By that flawed logic, Babar would appear to be superior to Inzamam simply because he has more hundreds, a higher average and a better strike rate in ODIs.

Babar may look technically polished against pace and aesthetically pleasing in the nets, much like how commentators once raved about Asad Shafiq’s elegance in practice. But none of that counts if you can’t deliver against full strength attacks from the top five sides (Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, India, England). That’s why Babar has so few truly standout white ball innings because he always fails to deliver with impact.

Even the ODI ton against New Zealand during the run chase in the 2019 World Cup was a 7 out of 10 performance. The Pakistan bowlers did 70-80% of the work by restricting to NZ to 237. Babar's hundred was scored at a strike rate of less than 80 and as a result, it dragged the chase to the final over. You might be thinking, why does that matter? Well Pakistan fell short of qualifying for the Semis due to net run rate. There were no demons in the pitch, so Pakistan should've attempted to chase this inside 40-42 overs.

In Pakistan’s 2000s setup, Babar would have been exposed. The spinners of that era would have chewed him up, and the toxic, chaotic environment demanded mental toughness he simply doesn’t possess. Back then, bilaterals, triangular series and Sharjah Cups were contested by full strength sides, unlike today’s diluted attacks. Pakistan’s insistence on fielding their best XI has allowed Babar to pad his stats against weaker opposition.

Outside of his century against New Zealand in the 2019 WC, he’s yet to deliver a truly defining white ball innings. Younis Khan, on the other hand has produced multiple standout knocks. I have made this point on numerous occasions in recent days to your friends, Raja Isthiaq and Gazza, but they do not want to contest this because they know they would be given a good hiding if they were to take it up with me.

YK batted at 3 and played the anchor role well during the 2000s to help the likes of Inzamam and MoYo and the lower order players flourish. This is why I say you cannot evaluate a 2000s batter by modern strike rate standards.

Mamoon is also of the opinion that YK was competent ODI player but in his view he believes he should have batted lower down the order, as his best performances came at 6, where he averaged 40+ with a strike rate of just over 90.

Another reason why YK was a bigger white ball asset is because his captaincy was instrumental to Pakistan's only WT20 triumph. In that tournament, he averaged well over 50 with the bat and scored his runs at a strike rate of 140, which was the same as Afridi's. Out of the top 10 run scorers in that competition, only Dilshan, Kevin Pietersen and AB de Villiers were scoring their runs quicker than them.

I gave up on Babar a long time ago and I have no regrets. He’s mentally fragile, selfish and unwilling to improve. His lack of cricketing intelligence was plain to see in his captaincy, so much so that even Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL couldn’t rely on him to make decisions without leaning on Darren Sammy.

Ultimately, Younis’ highs eclipse Babar’s, while Babar’s lows sink lower than Younis’. Babar's inflated stats come from feasting on second string attacks. On paper, he may have surpassed Inzamam, as he's achieved a higher average, strike rate and more ODI tons, but anyone who truly watched Inzamam knows that he wipes the floor with Babar.

To summarise: Younis Khan wasn’t flawless, I wanted him gone after the 2011 World Cup, and ideally he should have retired from white ball cricket after the 2009 WT20. But overall, he was a far greater white-ball asset than Babar because:
  • He performed the anchor role well for Pakistan in the 2000s
  • He produced more standout innings
  • His captaincy was instrumental to Pakistan’s only WT20 triumph (the less said about Babar's captaincy, the better)

Keep crying.... Keep derailing the thread with useless talk and keep getting your posts removed now

No more irrelvant stuff

The obsession to prove YK greater than Babar is getting out of bounded rationality,
YK is the greatest Pakistani to play Test cricket. Babar is the greatest Pakistan to play limited-over cricket. Both GOATs. End of story.

No disrespect, but try saying that to those who actually watched and followed the likes of Saeed Anwar and Inzamam play in ODI cricket. And before bringing up stats, always remember the difference between the 1 ball per innings era and 2 new ball per innings era in ODI cricket. Add to that, how teams used to play their full strength teams in bilaterals in the 1 ball per innings era.

I'll be the first one to admit that Inzamam was a complete and utter disaster in World Cups and overall in ICC Tournaments and in Tournament Finals, but it's not like Babar has been much better.

The most number of runs in one edition of ODI WC by Pakistani = Babar Azam
He also was top run scorer across all the teams in T20i WC 2021.

YK is the greatest Pakistani to play Test cricket. Babar is the greatest Pakistan to play limited-over cricket. Both GOATs. End of story.
A sweeping statement without facts.

First, it is not wise to compare players from different eras.

2nd, in the last 40 years, I dunno if ANY Pak player made a bigger ODI contribution in winning games/tournaments as Wasim Akram did, despite facts/conspiracies about his match fixings. So how Babar is dragged as a "greatest Pakistani" to play ODI? This is a total nonsense.

Also, Younis Khan being the greatest Pakistan Test bat be argued vs the list of Hanif Mohammad, Zaheer Abbas, Majid Khan, Javed Miandad, Saeed Anwar, and some more. You just wanted to drag Babar into it with an agenda.

I have seen them both play, I know the changes in rules too but I still believe what I said.
You just need to compare how they are faring compare to their peers. These people are illogical. Babar is head and shoulders above 99% of his peers in ODIs. Younis wasn't even top 30-50 and that's being generous

So basically, you’re saying the only player ahead of him is Virat Kohli?

Babar wouldn’t even get a shot in Pakistan’s all‑time greatest ODI XI.

You obviously didn't understand the point. I said look at how they are doing versus their peers. Virat Kohli yeas and MAYBE a couple of others but not many.

Even haters of Babar will admit his stats and performance in ODIs put him in the top 5 OF HIS PEERS. His ranking has often been number 1.

Younis Khan if he was lucky might have made the top 30 of his Peers and that is he was lucky.

Babar would be in the greatest ODI XI but that's another argument.

Your argument is akin to who is a better ODI bowler Wasim Akram (Babar) or Mervyn Dillon (Younis Khan)

The Younis obsessed poster creating a clutter everywhere, admit it YK was crap in ODIS and Babar would have succeded in white ball against Lee McGrath Gillespie et Al.

Admit it, you like to do the two words I told you to do.

Babar would have succeded in white ball against Lee McGrath Gillespie et Al.

Why omit Shane Warne from that list of Australian bowlers and hide behind “et al”? Did you really think no one would notice?

With or without Warne, this is yet another brain dead take from you.

If he was going to succeed against those Australian bowlers in your list, please can you enlighten us as to why Babar struggled so much during the 2022 WT20? - where his scoring rate was less than run a ball and averaged under 20 with the bat.

Failing to score at even a run a ball in a T20 World Cup is inexcusable but somehow you want us to believe that Babar would have "succeded" in limited overs against cricket against McGrath, Lee and Gillespie. :ROFLMAO:

There’s a direct correlation between a certain fan club and their absence of cricketing insight, bro.

This fan club consists of Misbah, Babar and Rizwan supporters.

You obviously didn't understand the point. I said look at how they are doing versus their peers. Virat Kohli yeas and MAYBE a couple of others but not many.

No, I understood you perfectly. I caught the comparison you made between Babar and his peers. That’s why I asked if Kohli is the only one ahead of him.

The flaw in your argument is that you’re assuming a level playing field. It isn’t. Pakistan is the only side that consistently fields its first XI in these meaningless bilaterals and tri-series.

If Babar were truly inferior to just 1% of modern ODI players, then why does he struggle so badly against spin? You’ll find batsmen from teams ranked below Pakistan who play spin far better than he does in white ball cricket.

Outside of that century against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, he still hasn’t produced a genuinely defining white-ball innings.

Even haters of Babar will admit his stats and performance in ODIs put him in the top 5 OF HIS PEERS. His ranking has often been number 1.

I have already discussed this comparison at length with YK in post 322, which you conveniently dodged because let's face it you knew you couldn't contest it.

You also went to great lengths to hide Babar's flop tournaments, most notably the 2022 WT20 during your discussion with @TheSultan so what you have to say about other players should be taken with a pinch of salt.

lol at "conveniently dodged"

Fact is you are clutching at straws with your argument. No matter what you say Babar is not the only that plays in those conditions . There were others too and have inferior records. A lot of matches Babar played were in Dubai where the scores aren't as high. Are you seriously gonna tell me places like India don't have flatter pitches with higher scores. One can argue about anything but it doesn't make it an intelligent one.

This is a dumb argument. Yk was not even as good as Shoaib Malik. Comparing him to Babar is a joke and us entertaining you is a waste of time.

It's like comparing Wasim Akram to Balaji. Not sure why someoen would think Balaji is better but they can try to make excuses and arguments.

You also went to great lengths to hide Babar's flop tournaments, most notably the 2022 WT20 during your discussion with @TheSultan so what you have to say about other players should be taken with a pinch of salt.
So no other player flops including Younis. You guys are silly.

So no other player flops including Younis. You guys are silly.

The problem isn’t really his low run tally. I appreciate even the true greats have endured tournaments where runs were hard to come by. What’s truly inexcusable is Babar’s strike rate, which was below a run a ball in a T20 World Cup. Equally inexcusable is the fact you deliberately omitted it. You have to admit it you were obviously ashamed by it.

So here’s my question: did Babar’s dreadful strike rate in the 2022 WT20 stem from selfishness, incompetence, or a mix of both?

The Younis obsessed poster creating a clutter everywhere, admit it YK was crap in ODIS and Babar would have succeded in white ball against Lee McGrath Gillespie et Al.
Based on what?

If we’re just making random predictions, here’s mine:

McGrath would have mentally tortured him, Lee would have scared the life out of him (look how he was brickin it against Mark Wood), dizzy would have been a combination of both

Forget McGrath, Babar won’t survive Darren Lehman.

McGrath, Warne, Lee, Gillespie, Bichel etc are another level.

Pretty sure Micheal Clarke will trap Babar LBW if he bowls 2 overs to him.

The only guy Babar and Rizwan type lallus can get some control against is Shane Watson. This is the kind of bowler/bowlers they have scored their runs against.

It's so funny because that's their level yet his blind loyalists insist otherwise. Gazza hails him as a "great", Kianig claims he’d thrive against the GOAT Australia side, and the wannabe Salman Butt even calls him the modern day Wasim Akram. Daytrader credits Babar when Pakistan reached no.1 in ODIs.

The funniest unintentional comedians you’ll ever find are Babar fans.

Bro I don’t get these jokers. Pata nahi Konsi cricket dekhi hai in logo ne?

Babar struggles against a bowler like Hardik Pandya. Pandya is a nill bowler but he bowls to Babar with the same confidence Asif bowled to Pietersen !

How these clowns can claim Babar will handle McGrath is beyond amazing! The same mindset people rate Ubaid Shah as better than Harmison too

It’s all very suspicious. They talk as if they’ve been appointed by Saya Corps and promote Babar on PP or are they just a bunch of saddos?

Maybe they are the reason why this forum is going downhill. Notice how the more intelligent minds used to be far more active than these ignoramuses.

Babar struggles against a bowler like Hardik Pandya. Pandya is a lull bowler but he bowls to Babar with the same confidence Asif bowled to Pietersen fgs!

Bang on. Babar can’t even handle Pandya but somehow he’ll handle McGrath 🤡

When I joined PP, I still remember very well how Gazza used to cuss Pandya. I wonder if he still has the same energy? 🤔

That’s the perfect example - Pandya! These guys make play him as if he’s Malcolm Marshall. Not only that, we had to suffer the ignominy of Pandya calling Pakistanis “timid” in the 2023 World Cup. How can babar and Rizwan take that? Where is your ego? where’s your self respect? Where’s your manliness.

Rizbar will probably respond with a smile and a backslap. They act like they’ve been castrated. I’m ashamed of these cowards.

bro, my kids used to be massive fans of babar 2019-2021 and used to get upset with me when I criticised him. Even them - they laugh at him now and he’s just a bit of a comedy figure.

And these posters are grown men idolising a guy who has been an utter failure for 4 years. If that’s not suspicious, I don’t know what is. I just hope Saya pay well for their sake.

Bro this chewwit @Kianig89 should answer up

Misinformation cannot be allowed to spread. A normalisation of lies based on ridiculous speculation should not be promoted. What are his motives to make such absurd claims? When you have clear examples of club level bowlers like Pandya ripping through you… how the hell can you confidently believe the same batter will appropriately handle a bowler like McGrath?

This is so disrespectful to McGrath! He is cricketing royalty! Even the greats of Pakistan Inzimam and Saeed Anwar were in awe of his brilliance! No batter in the history of Asia (or maybe in the world) has got a clear, assertive understanding of how to take a hold of the legend….

How can you confidently make this stupid claim of Babar being able to do it when even frickin Lara and Tendulkar wouldn’t have the complete confidence to do so???

Keep burning ! and hyping hacks , and asking for Justice : inzi

Babar record against WC bowlers like Steyn , Starc is not bad ,not world beaters but definitely not pathetic also , Moreover his fratilities are mostly against spin. Yes occasional blips are there like Pandya getting better of him , but class is permanent form is temporary

Just to add some context how stupid this argument is. Below are the BEST ODI rankings for some players. Note I said BEST EVER and not Average. Might still be a hard concept for some poster to grasp based on what I’ve seen.

Younis Khan 19th
Shoaib Malik 11th
Inzimam 3rd
Yousuf 1st

Inzimam and Yousuf were great ODI players. Malik was also better that YK.

Babar is another league compared to YK in ODIs.

What’s Babar’s record against Steyn and where????

✅ What we know: South Africa
  • Most of the encounters between Babar and Steyn came during the Pakistan tour of South Africa 2018–19.
  • Data from heads-up stats: In Tests, Babar scored 92 runs off 79 balls against Steyn, without getting out (i.e. 0 dismissals).
    • That included 21 fours and no sixes, with a strike-rate ~ 116.5.
  • In ODIs, the limited data shows Babar faced Steyn at least once: he made 17 runs off 23 balls (dismissed once) against him.
  • The qualitative assessments: analysts have described Babar’s performance against Steyn in South Africa as technically mature: his balance, timing and ability to leave or play late gave him an edge over Steyn’s pace and bounce — rare for visiting batsmen in South African conditions.

So for the country South Africa, Babar’s record vs Steyn is excellent — scoring 92 Test runs (not out), decent ODI contribution, and hitting lots of boundaries at an above-par strike rate.

Wow a simple search will tell you that you just shot yourself in the foot.

Amazing, I think we have all the proof that we need Babar will easily handle McGrath 🤡

Some of the absurd horse…rubbish here is beyond amazing!

The idiot who claimed Babar will handle McGrath and Co did it in order to prove Babar would also be suitable for the era in which YK played cricket….this was his lame attempt at trying to prove Babar is a better ODI batter than YK.

When called upon to prove his b.s claim, the example he cites is Babar’s one freak (I would call it that really) against an ageing Steyn in a TEST match. Just one innings of note, and that too in a Test match! What do we already know about Babar v Younis Khan in Test cricket?????????

The amount of flip flopping these idiots are doing go back a ridiculous claim! My days!

First let him deal with the likes of Mitch Starc etc

What’s up with the fresh fanbase, I was just starting to take more interest in his batting because that should be his prime focus and not leadership/politics, but these guys don’t really let you.

The latest claim is that because Babar went beserk against a Dale Steyn in the twilight of his career….he would have also murdered McGrath throughout his career :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

@Kianig89 @salman24 @BouncerGuy

My boys, Peak Steyn would have drilled a HOLE through Babar’s bat and pads!

Do not disrespect cricket. Do not disrespect the legends with your absurd claims!

For me, I don’t care about his average, he doesn’t compare to Younis in any format let alone Saeed Anwar. You’ve been posting here since 2006 & know first hand what Younis achieved for Pakistan Cricket when it mattered most. The Bacha Party just started watching cricket, Babar is better than Javed Miandad as well 🤡.

Babar can only dream of doing to Steyn what Kamran Akmal did to Steyn in Nottingham, I saw both at their best live and Babar is a disgrace to the Akmal family tree, more talent then all of them and he is still rebuilding, I really do hope he gets there now but his fans need to stop blowing so much smoke up his behind, they are part of the problem.

Keep bashing Babar, if that's your breakfast lunch and dinner, from Hayden to Mark Waugh it's all praise for him

@daytrader

I’m relying on your Canadian cricketing wisdom here.

We know Babar can do it in a super over. The million dollar question is can he do it against McGrath in a super over?

What imaginary World do you guys live in? Babar vs McGrath

You guys literally imagine Babar, Rizwan and Misbah vs all the cricketers in history.

People are dead from inside seeing Sydney sixers making Babar Azam their Poster boy..

You need to wake up. Not me.

How you can continue to tell us Babar is Pakistan’s best T20 batter really is a serious issue.

You must reflect. You must wake up.

And yes, Agha for his role is better than Babar for what he is supposedly good at!

It’s not “us guys” who made the preposterous claim of Babar being good enough to handle McGrah, Lee and Gillespie…

That was one of yours. You should either do the right thing by calling it rubbish…or we will naturally presume as always that you agree with this kind of nonsense.

The floor is yours.

I am surprised that more teams don't go down this route when a batsman is stuck and not able to progress the scoreboard, though it is a double edged sword as the pressure on the next batsman (Say No to Batter!!) will be huge.
The reason why Pakistan haven’t been strategically retiring players like Babar and Rizwan in the past when they are on those 25* off 30 balls is because they genuinely believed the rubbish these two and their scam agency have told them that Pakistan will fold KKR a pack of cards without them at the crease!

It is my dream to own a franchise somewhere in the world…

And I will pick up Babar and Rizwan for free because their agent will literally just beg me to take them in….

And then I will open with them in a game….only to strategically retire both of them after 2 overs into the innings!

BBL are taking it as a massive thing, having Babar for their tournament , infact the limelight for SSA is amazing
