Can't agree with his support for Babar, his status as captain is becoming untenable with these historic losses.

The board needs money, and there is none in red ball cricket.
The board lost millions of dollars hosting red ball against England in the last home series.

UG is living on a different planet. He is thinking in terms quality and game preservence and all that jazz - but the world runs on money.

I wouldn't mind seeing him as the Pakistan pace-bowling coach one day.

Surely can't do as bad as some of his predecessors.

we need separate LOI and test teams. that much is obvious. not sure when selectors will realize it

I agree. He has always been a non controversial character, had good basics as a pacer and have had a pretty eventful international journey from being a tall seamer who used to rely upon seam movement to becoming a high 140s, even 150 kph pacer in his peak with reverse swing and ultimately to a pacer who mainly relied upon his experience and swing post his knee injuries. Have learnt and seen a lot of things in international cricket which can only help the young pacers.

Have had a season with QG as bowling coach, now have worked with Afghanistan as their bowling coach with some good results in terms of pacers improving. Hopefully can work a bit at U-19 or domestic level as well alongside some coaching courses and he can be a very useful person to have in the available pace bowling coaching options in Pakistan.

47 Tests, 130 ODIs and 60 T20Is
427 international wickets
First bowler to take a five-wicket haul in T20Is
Leading wicket-taker in Pakistan's 2009 T20 World Cup-winning campaign

Happy birthday to the king of yorkers, Umar Gul.

Umar Gul joins Bangladesh cricket team as bowling coach for Pakistan tour.

Umar Gul, 42, will begin his tenure with Bangladesh during their five-match T20I series in May, as part of a short-term deal aimed at strengthening the team’s fast-bowling department.

The BCB has initially offered a three-month contract, with a possible extension through to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup depending on mutual satisfaction following the series.

The last of recognize Test bowler for Pakistan, Fast bowlers are extincted in Pakistan specially Test cricket

The irony of Umar Gul making this statement.
Gul has 125 FC matches to his name. He was rubbish in test cricket and hence was dropped.

Which is why he started prioritizing t20 as he was clearly Pakistan's greatest in the format. It made sense to prioritize a format he was good in over a format where he was dropped and looking to regain his place may have resulted in deteriorating his t20 format even further.

He didnt quit test cricket because he just one day decided to say bye bye. You can claim he wasn't good in test cricket sure.

The knee injury he suffered from in 2013 effectively ended his career. He was never the same bowler after that in any format

The knee injury might have ended his career but for most fans, he was dead after the 2011 semifinal.

He was in the prime of his career, in peak bowling form and the way he folded against Sehwag was embarrassing to watch.

Gul was a toothless bowler without doctored balls. He was also bang average with the new ball and 99% of his great spells were due to reverse-swing and I am convinced that it was due manipulation. Pakistan were lucky to get away with it in the 2007-2009 period. They were getting reverse-swing in T20s.

He was lucky he played most of his cricket in the 2000s in the one new ball era and less scrutiny on tampering. Had he made his debut in the 2010s, he wouldn’t have much of a career.
