Sarfaraz Ahmed speaking to the media today

"When you play poorly, there is criticism and we played poorly in the first few games. But as long as criticism is on cricket, it's fine. Unfortunately after the India game, a lot of things happened that hurt the players mentally. It's not like we weren't hurt by the loss, we were hurt just as much as all followers of the Pakistan team"

"Some incidents came to be known but some things aren't known to the public, which we reported to the management"

"There were many incidents that happened, not just the one with me. There were incidents with the other players in malls, lots of things happened. On the ground as well, things happened and we reported all these incidents. I am thankful to all the fans who came to support us, it was amazing. Outside Pakistan, we got so much support at many of the grounds with a majority Pakistan support"

Not a fan of his batting and captaincy but i genuinely feel sorry for him. Imagine Faf du Plessis or Jason Holder being targetted for a poor WC. Pakistani fans tend to go overboard and start bullying people.

It is fine to criticize their performance but it is not fine to go after them while they are with families. Some fans take it too far.

Refuses to bat at 4, hides behind tail enders fitness non existent, tactical nouse zero...

But please don’t say anything to me!!

I'm surprised that details of the other incidents didn't come out as it's very difficult to keep such stuff quiet these days especially with social media.

Why is Babar smiling. Seems these minnows are happy with 5th.

No just these jokers always smile in defeat and humiliation.

The question was about the memes made on them after the defeat to India especially the trending memes on Sarfaraz yawning and whether they enjoyed it or something. You want Babar to start bawling in response? What is this?A starplus serial.

If he keeps harping on about "don't say this to me don't say that me" people will just do it even more. Needs to accept this is what happens in the public domain. Also, needs to let his bat do the talking.

No! As an Indian I should say that targeting families and homes of players for whatever reason is not happening! And Indians do the same!

personally i have been gutted with their performance but i can live with a team that even if finishes 10th out of 10 playing as long as they give their 110% ... my problem comes with the fact that we didnt play our best XI and the ones who played also didnt give their 110% .... Hassan Ali, Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali were so so so crap in this tournament that when we lost becz of their pathetic play, abusing and stupid comments are difficult to curtail.. I refer to the game NZ and WI ... if that was us losing that way, i wont be too unhappy but we just didnt turn up initially... and thats all bcz of the trio of the 3 mentioned above and add Haffez to that as well...

Asked a couple of the squad what these other incidents were, but they won't confirm or deny there were other incidents.

Not to put you on the spot here, but do you believe Sarfraz's time is over or will he stick around till the World T20 next year?

Damn, imagine the SL players. Going from 4 WC semifinals in a row, including 2 WC finals and then this embarrassment. I wonder what kind of harassment they got from their fans. When we got kicked out of the 2007 WC the team couldn't return back for 2 weeks fearing repcrussion. South Asians are wildddd.

I think cricket isn't as hardcore in Sri Lanka as it's in India and Pakistan.

Looking for sympathy. Have some shame man , you can’t bat or captain . Please move on .

I wouldn't say that, I mean team isn't bad for a country of 20 million people and their economic situation isn't much different from India or Pak. They definetly aren't abusive or mentally ill like India and Pak fans but pretty sure they love their cricket. Or else it would be hard to produce the talent they did.

This says more about the people that are doing it, ie. pathetic trolls. No one is going to take those sad keyboard warriors seriously. Anyway, although the personal stuff is not on, it was a reaction to the abysmal showing by PCT. It will die down until the next mediocre performance.

I don't think it is in Pakistan cricket's best interests to have him as captain in all 3 formats.

Pakistan punched above the weight given the squad.
If anything PCB needs to be "abused" for being in shambles for most part of last 15 years, leading to poor quality cricket Pakistan team plays across formats

Not when these guys are paid a fortune and yet embarrass us time and again.
Lol.....They just missed out on a semis berth with 11pts beating two teams that are in the top 4. They just had one poor game against the Windies otherwise they would in the semis in place of NZ. Maybe even higher had they played against SL. How is that embarrassment?

This has been discussed to death before. There haven't been adequate replacements as the ones who are performing well are not fit to be captain for one reason or another.

Perhaps now that Sarfaraz has struggled, Imad can take over the T20 or ODI captaincy. He has performed decently and become a permanent member of the squad. But even he has fitness issues he has to deal with. I am not sure if there is any other candidate for captaincy. Putting someone like Babar Azam would only lead to seniors creating divisions within the team something you would want to stay away from.

It's a press conference, he's just responding to the queries from the reporters.

He did go on to mention that crowds were good in general and that Pakistan had a lot of support.

If the players were in need of sympathy, they could have released this news earlier via their media friends, or in previous pressers.

Sure but I was pointing out the way he responded. I doubt there were many incidents as he seems to be implying. They were walking seen at shopping centres, restaurants, cafes, shisha lounges, peoples houses eating dinner, so will speak to people. Next time Pakistan tour any nation, all players should stay in the hotel, it's not a holiday.

Do other teams' players constantly stay in their hotels during a two-month long tour?
