I hope this doesnt become a controversy.

There is nothing wrong in attending a concert, he cant be doing batting practise at night

Don't think they would be allowed out too late night before a game, so depends on time really

Umar Akmal's life motto: "Meri life mei bus 3 cheezein important hain; Entertainment, Entertainment, Entertainment.". Wherever he goes, whatever his position in the team, the party, the dancing, the lifestyle never stops.

Need to party more like this guy.

Professional sportsmen travelling with their teams have a curfew.

I can't believe that we're stooping to that low of a level.

He's a human. Why can't he enjoy at a concert?

We're fine with foreign players hanging out in Karachi at restaurants during the PSL. We're fine with sponsoring foreign players to play golf in the UAE. And sunbath at exotic beaches.

But have a problem with our own player attending a concert.

Waiting for this thread to get flocked by morality brigade.

Who are you to judge that?

Were you judging like this too when Islamabad United players were hangout out late night at a restaurant?

Or when visiting foreign teams, foreign players party out in the UAE during an ongoing tournament?

Stop this hypocrisy. We really do have our double standards and immediately start resort to this moral judging as soon as one of our own players want to have a life.

People need to criticize him for his cricketing skills or performances. NOT hanging out at a concert! Stop chasing players in their personal life.

unless he is intoxicated during toss, shouldn't matter

Curfews are ridiculous, and even if there was one, everyone breaks them.

Umar Akmal just gets scrutinized too much

What happens during a meaningless club T20 league cannot be compared to when players are on national duty.

If he’s been out partying the night before an international game and that too beyond the curfew then questions should be raised and he should be reprimanded.

Everyone does not break them and they are not a joke. Sport has certain rules. If you can't follow them, then don't cry about not being in the team to the entire media industry. Don't publicly vilify the coach and selectors. Don't beg to be given chances. Don't complain to the PM of the country.

If you do not have the performances to back up such antics, don't pull such crap.

He is not the Kohli he thinks he is.

I can’t believe there are posters here arguing against the idea of a curfew.

As a professional sportsman, it is perfectly reasonable to require they do NOT go out late the night before a match.

Heck if you had most professional jobs, for example banking, and you were in a different country as part of your role, and then a video was released of you partying/ being out late night before an important deal, I would expect some repercussions.

That’s like saying, so what if he eats crap between games, it’s what he does on match days that matters ...

No - anything that can reasonably be expected to affect a players performance can have rules against it.

Please note - if he was at the concert at midday tomorrow and did not break any rules, then there isn’t an issue here

You keep saying IF IF IF.

Where's the proof of IF? Did the team manager confirm? Is this a masala board where we will throw mud at someone's personal life like this?

And who told you players cannot enjoy outside during intl matches? I'll let you Google that on your own.

Well it depends if this was a late night concert and the guy is out till late and not getting enough rest and sleep before a crucial match the next day then it’s not his personal business, as the team’s performance is impacted.

And don’t forget he’s not there in Dubai on a private visit , but on duty to represent his country as an international sportsman, and you do anything and everything you can to avoid controversy especially when you have a history of this and are just making a comeback.. and any controversy then affects the country’s image.

You are right that sports have certain rules. But everyone breaks these rules once in a while.

And even if these rules get violated, they are always dealt with in Private. Now after this whats going to happened, if Umar akmal doesnt perform, media will pick this video up and use this to bash him. Then PCB will come in and announce to the whole world that we are conducting an investigation, we have made a committee, then the committee comes and place a fine or ban, again MAKING THE WHOLE ORDEAL PUBLIC.

Thing is, we all know how PCB is going to treat this now, and Umar Akmal will once against be made a tamasha in media. SOme blame will lie on him, but mostly will lye on PCB for the way they will deal with all this.

Point is, this matter is between him and PCB, and if any violation did take place, give the punishment behind close doors.

Also, you are being biased. Yes Umar has done foolish behavior before but why consider those here.

CUrfews get violated often, and the punishment should be made behind closed doors.

Well you’re the one defending him aggressively, saying he has definitely not done anything wrong.

This is masala news but as with all masala news - posters are saying, if this is true (and it wouldn’t be surprising given his history) then it is wrong. You seem to be saying it doesn’t matter, even if it is true, he’s done nothing wrong.

and companies and management deal with this behind closed doors.

This will now be made another public tamasha.

Like I said, the others have earned the right to break small rules like these through good performances, good behavior or long careers. This drama queen pulls a fuss at the thought of being dropped from the squad and cries to all of Pakistan and then violates even the smallest of rules?

Disgusting.

and companies and management deal with this behind closed doors.

This will now be made another public tamasha.

And so it should be. This guy makes being dropped a public tamasha and PUBLICLY vilifies the Head Coach of the sole sport your country plays. Have you seen Fawad Alam doing the same? He wasn't picked for the team in spite of being one of the most consistent First Class batsmen in the history of cricket.

What has this clown done to have the audacity to criticse others? You reap what you sow.

They do try to, correct.

But if the company is a well known large Bank, and the media gets a hold of the video and puts out a headline ‘JP Morgan employee caught partying night before big tech IPO’, what choice does the company have?

It’s even worse if the work is going badly, as in this situation where Pakistan is getting hammered.

If PCB makes this a public tamasha they will only end up destroying there own image, that they cant even handle their own players.

Everyboard has to deal with such issues and fines are given in private.

Was it really the PCB who hacked into his phone and leaked the video to punish him out in the open ...

I think they will be improving their image. The PCB and other boards alike have let these sort of antics happen for too long. It was a breath of fresh air to see the BCCI question its players publicly for comments made in public regarding women.

I think Hawkeye is right.

You are innocent until proven guilty.

People here are making him guilty and asking him to prove his innocence.

Thats not how the law works.

Attending a concert is not an issue as long he turns up sober the next day and remains within curfew.

Was it really the PCB who hacked into his phone and leaked the video to punish him out in the open ...

but history tells us how PCB deals with such matters.

PCB in the effort to show the whole world that they are a good organization, makes every single matter public.

Guilty or not he was at the concert with or without permission. Doesn’t matter he can do whatever he wants as long he is not part of team pakistan. We don’t need clowns.

His actions on/off the field really makes him look like a clown.

Te phir ki, fan of your my chamak challo, our junior is.

What's the big deal :umar:

Nothing wrong as long as he is not breaking the rules. I am sure he understood every word that was being said!:uakmal

I believe some of the information is wrong.

Akon performed Friday night/Saturday morning at a nightclub. So Umar Akmal had an entire day off before Sunday's match.

But enjoying concerts at 2-3 AM (when Akon performed) is probably not a good look. :))

If team management were aware and he returned to the hotel before the team curfew, then it's ok.

However he doesn't 'look well' in the video does he.

He looks like his been having some “colourful water”, maybe it helps him lose weight as opposed to normal water which makes him gain weight.

Also normally the curfew for Pakistan players during a series is 11pm.

I'm not judge and IDK what happened or the time. But given his Background and controversies UA is really dumb risking going out at night parties.

Anybody who thinks Umar Akmal is serious about his cricket is wrong. He may be serious about returning back to the team and getting his hands on a central contract, but that's close the maximum threshold of his aim & thinking ability.

Junior is a symbol of hope for every paindooo on the street who aspires to play for the national side. I mean look at him, no seriously, look at him. What a walking piece of art. He is doing all of this simply because he can. There is no purpose or concrete motive behind his actions. Haters can only wish they were in his place, living THE life.

Pretty much. If the team management was aware, no issues. Some individuals are just tough to handle. One example that comes to mind is Akhtar. But difference is umar akmal is a failure and then keeps getting caught in controversy.

As history also tells us that Umar Akmal has discipline issues. So you can’t have it one way.

I heard this was actually after the 4th ODI after Pakistan lost. Apparently he uploaded it on his snapchat that time.

Don’t see any harm in the video, he is allowed a personal life.

However those facial expressions were really cringeworthy. :ua

If there was a curfew why did he snapchat it? Shows his stupidity

If there wasn’t a curfew its his own time so what. Although bearing in mind the negative press he has been getting for ages he would be advised to stay away from social media everyone remembers grapegrate

It's his personal life, shouldn't be criticized for his choices there.

dubai games start late afternoon, so "curfew" times would probably be till late anyways... non issue being blown out of proportion

Nothing wrong with going to the concert......BUT that video is extremely extremely cringeworthy :)))

I miss these days with Umar in the team. Not only was everyone taking him apart for every iffy move on the field, but his off field life and how he was criticized for it always provided entertainment, and he posts everything, so we're always in on everything.

With that said, I don't think there's anything wrong if this was on a rest day.

Well said. People just wish ill on him for no reason.
