I saw this teenager play in Ramzan T20 tournament and immediately he got my attention and clicked.

Watch out for this gutsy, exuberant, talented spinner.

Superb pick my KarachiKings. Well done Rashid Latif and Co.

Umer has made a dream FC start and he is one for the future. Won't be surprised if in future he outperforms Asghar & Zafar and makes Pakistan team aswell.

One must mention SSGC Head Coach former Pakistan Wicket keeper Atiq uz Zaman here who has been a phenomenal support for Umer Khan.

It is heart warming when deserving Cricketers get reward in this Country Pakistan.

Best wishes and prayers Umer Khan. Give it your best shot. It's a dream come oppurtunity at such a young age.

Well done KarachiKings. Now give him consistent chances. Back him. Mickey Arthur watch out.

Young Pakistani Left arm spinners are somehow jinxed.. so many of them coming through but none established in the senior side... ps none picked for tests in the UAE ,which is a major reason for our recent defeats there

TalentSpotterPk in above video i see two glaring faults in his bowling, most of his wickets were on delivries which did not spin away and he bowls to the right handers very wide of the crease. I hope he doesn’t come out to be abother darter.

Did u watch the footage posted at PP in 2016 or 2017 of a Ramzan T20 Cup ?

He spins the ball sharply.

He was picked by UBL when he was only 16.

I hope if he is backed by KK management and given consistent chances than he will shine in PSL.

Not his best format I guess.Still he will be good.

Left arm leg spinner or chinaman, with few tricks up his sleeve, can make a huge difference in the game. I hope Pakistan has someone in the domestic, who has the talent and the skill to do so.

FATA’s Umer Khan aims to deflate batsmen in HBL PSL 4

• Karachi Kings’ left-arm spinner took seven wickets on his first-class debut

• PSL is all about grooming young Pakistan cricketers and mature those who have already made their names

Dubai, 15 February 2019:

Umer Khan’s father repairs punctures on vehicles and inflates them. Umer targets deflating a batsman with his swift and cunning left-arm spin.

A hard working father who could not afford money and lack of opportunities in his native FATA (Federally Administrated Tribal Area, bordering Afghanistan) had never deflated Umer’s passion of making it big in cricket.

Nadeem Khan, a former Pakistan Test spinner and now Multan Sultans' Manager, brought Umer to United Bank and groomed him without making it public. It was on Nadeem's advice that Umer was given a chance for Pakistan U-19 in the Junior Asia Cup in Sri Lanka in 2016. Umer took two wickets in one match but never got another chance at the junior level.

“My friends spotted him while he was playing with some kids outside Peshawar cricket stadium. They were impressed with his action. I recruited him in UBL and we silently groomed him,” said Nadeem, who later recommended Umer to Sui Southern Gas (SSGC).

Umer made an instant impression, taking one for 70 and six for 37 on his first-class debut for SSGC against Peshawar.

“I am from FATA and I started cricket when I was in class five. There were very few opportunities as FATA did not have much facilities and my family was not well off, but it did not deter me as I always wanted to be big in cricket,” said Umer.

Hard work paid off, as Umer would work tirelessly in the nets to get maturity in bowling. He would use abandoned tyres as stumps and bowl for hours.

“I played for FATA and played U-19 for Pakistan. I live in Taxila and work hard on my cricket. I took six wickets in an innings on my first-class debut where Kabir Khan watched me and told Karachi Kings about me,” said Umer.

Umer was impressive in the warm-up match against Peshawar Zalmi at ICC academy in Dubai on Tuesday, bowling to players like Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sohaib Maqsood and Dawid Malan.

“I was feeling well and excited that I am bowling to some great players like Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Dawid Malan, and when I did well all Karachi Kings staff and players praised me. It made my heart big.”

Umer feels more and more players from poor backgrounds in FATA will come to cricket as peace has returned to the region.

“It’s exciting that peace is returning to FATA. Some of our players go to Peshawar and play cricket there. We have two grounds, one in Bajaur Agency and the other one in Khyber agency. We have our U-19 district there. Now, its good and some players are coming,” said Umer.

Sri Lanka great Rangana Herath is Umer’s ideal and he wants to make as big as the Sri Lanka master did.

“Herath was a world-class bowler,” accepts Umer. “He is my role model and I want to achieve as much as he did.”

In the Karachi Kings’ camp, skipper Imad Wasim, head coach Mickey Arthur and president Wasim Akram are big motivation for young Umer.

“Maddy bhai (Imad) tells me a lot of things on how to bowl to such and such batsmen. He told me that you need variation in Twenty20 cricket and that I am learning,” said Umer.

“Wasim Akram and Mickey Arthur gave me confidence, they keep telling me and giving me encouragement that I can be a big player.”

Umer has the talent to go places and PSL has provided him with that launchpad.

Great story.

Well Done Nadeem Khan.

Hope he plays today and is successful InshaAllah. He needs to be given consistent chances. Give him confidence, back him and he will come good.

Stable start - but action is a little complicated.

Good control in terms of line and length. Rewarded with a wicket. Dream start for the boy.

Looks like a great prospect, hopefully he can bat a bit to add to his T20 stock

Stable start - but action is a little complicated.

Awful action and gets too low but lovely revs on the ball and has great control.

Could be a real find, although very competitive area when world class guys like zafar gohar struggle to get a gig.

Needs to show he can spin though and has variations. Can’t afford to have another dart bowler like Nawaz.

Zafar Gohar is word class? :))

His bowling action reminds you a bit of Saeed Ajmal. A more side on version of him.

Hopefully he'll not be another chucker.

What a moment for him - the wicket of AB de Villiers in only his 2nd PSL match.

The lad is bowling very well and has some nice varieties in his armoury.

Doesn't seems to turn it enough though but got good accuracy and brains also his topspinners get unusual bounce as well. Decent prospect for his age, let's hope he learns to turn it a bit more.

I know Rizwan is a good keeper. Didn't know he practices by catching flying men.

I like him.

He is our left-handed Saeed Ajmal.

One for the future.

Want to see him actually try to spin the ball. Please don't turn him into Nawaz/Imad.

I saw his bowling and he was not turning the ball much; another false dawn I think 👎

Why didn't he bowl today when pacers were going for plenty? What is wrong with Karachi think tank?

Really needs to be given more chances - shown a lot of promise but ignored in previous game

This lad has some nice varieties.

He's a bit raw, but he has all the basics to be a good bowler.

That (arm) ball I think to Talat was pretty good

I think Talat has got out the same way on 3-4 consecutive occasions this tournament, so you could've had anyone bowl at him and he would've gotten out stumped :))

I like his action and he seems to be an intelligent bowler, but as others have mentioned previously, he needs to spin the ball.

Otherwise he's looking like a slightly better version of Nawaz right now.

I thought that was a carrom ball. I'm sure it went the other way a tad and not just straight

Good bowling action but doesn’t spin the ball at all. I am desperate to see gohar given a chance. He is better.

'The legend killer' of the PSL

Umar Khan has claimed some big name wickets in this tournament! Absolutely brilliant bowling to Corey Anderson and eventually got him out!

He’s brilliant. The way he’s set up batsmen has been fantastic.

And he isn’t just darting them in, I did see him spin a few deliveries away from the right handed batsmen today.

Very very good prospect

What’s your thoughts on this lad ? Chief Destroyer Ellipsism

Seems good but we have so many other left arm spinners in the Pakistan set up, we are crying out for a good right arm off spinner as there's plenty of options for left arm spinners.

Exciting prospect- he completely decieved Corey Anderson today. He adds another name to his impressive resume.

He should be given a chance in T20s. He knows how to out-think batsmen, which is very useful when the ball isn't spinning much. Could be good for us in the 2020 WT20.

Was actually looking to (and succeeding) in spinning the ball yesterday, which is what makes his variations so deadly (especially in FC). Exciting.

Unless he turns it like Zafar gohar he is a strict domestic material or at best A team regular. Enough with these spinners who can't turn it, was feeling horrible seeing Yasir in comparison with Sandeep

Definitely good enough for T20s. He can turn the ball, not as much as Zafar but he still can. One has to remember, while these pitches have been slow, they haven't been that good for spinners.

Umer Khan bowling superbly today.

3 for 22 for him today including a prized wicket of Shoib Malik.

How far is he from the international setup?

Can't be that much considering he's been brilliant. I wonder how his batting and fielding is?

His brain is his biggest asset. Needs to try and turn it more often (I know he can!)

High class bowler. Should be playing franchise cricket all around the world very soon!

5 dot balls in a row against Alex Hales (one of the best limited overs batsmen in the world) and that too in a pressure situation

This guy needs to become a regular for us in T20s. Will be very valuable in the WT20 next year.

mickey is so awful.

how can he only allow one pure spinner, who shouldn't even be in the team, and one spinning all rounder in the squad?

the sooner he goes the better

Honestly. I want to see Dean Jones as Pakistan coach.
