Mumbai: The excitement surrounding ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is well and truly picking up steam. Capturing the mood of the nation, Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the marquee tournament, unveils its campaign for the ‘Greatest Rivalry’ in Cricket as India locks horns with Pakistan in the tournament opener on October 23.

<div style="width: 100%; height: 0px; position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.250%;"><iframe src="https://streamable.com/e/1c2u88" frameborder="0" width="100%" height="100%" allowfullscreen style="width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute;"></iframe></div>

Set in the fictional town of ‘Dardanpur’, the film opens with pain-inducing events that the residents of the town endure as nothing more than a trivial occurrence. The town celebrates its cricket victories together, literally, with all its might. However, when it comes to India vs Pakistan match in the World Cup, emotions get real. The memories of the last World Cup’s loss against Pakistan are enough to make the people of Dardanpur feel sad as narrated by Sharma ji’s son, who pleads with Team India to right the wrongs and register a win against Pakistan.

“The World Cup evokes a patriotic fervour that engages even non-cricket enthusiasts in following their country’s progress in the tournament. There is no contest bigger than India vs. Pakistan in a Cricket match, and it gets even bigger at an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Our first promo illustrates the happiness and pain that India’s win or loss against Pakistan inflicts upon even the strongest of fans. As the Greatest Rivalry in Cricket sets to open the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, we hope to bind the nation in #BelieveinBlue and cheer together for Team India”, a Star Sports Spokesperson said.

Expect a reply from Pakistan also

Nothing wrong in this advert. Its promoting healthy competition and jeering India which is how it should be.

This ad resonates with me. Pakistan get humiliated by India in a World Cup is the natural order of the world.

There is a history and legacy behind this humiliation. It all started 30 years ago by Imran Khan, who set the tone and laid the foundation of Pakistan’s getting humiliated by India in World Cups. A legacy proudly carried forward by Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.

Babar Azam disturbed the natural order but you would hope that normalcy is restored and everything can start to make sense again.

India should make an another advert based on what I wrote above.

If Ind with all its might cannot beat a middle order of kushdil Ifty asif Masood nawaz shadab might as well call it quits & invest in other sports!!

I just want to say something about these ads though, Indian cricket now is totally run by media houses. Even team announcement is now done by Star Sports where previously selectors used to do press conference to announce a team. Broadcasters decide everything, from timing to the venue of the game. That is why you see all Indian matches starts at 7pm even ignoring the dew factor as day matches are less profitable even though it will give more balance to bat & ball. Also, broadcaster pressure is the reason no big players rest in IPL as their hands are tied.

So these ads Star or any broadcaster make is only to hype this Indo-Pak game. #Greatestrivalry and all other over the top statements are pure gimmick. Its just marketing technique to earn revenue. Ask any Indian fan on street or on cricket forum and you will get the answer what India-Pakistan game mean to them. If you remove the politics and sub continental racism aside, there is no rivalry at all. How can there be a rivalry between two teams who never played any proper cricket for 15 years?

The only thing interesting about this game is what happens after the game itself. In last 2 encounters Indian minority players were attacked and lots of rumour mongering happened. Great to see the support Shami and Arshdeep got from everyone in India but there has been concerted effort made via these games to prove India is intolerant towards minorities. I hope Indian govt will be vigilant this time and track as all social media platforms on 23rd Oct.

I wonder how much DJ got paid for this advert? Silver lining is he also gets to promote his movie.

If only he could actually be there to cut a promo before the toss!!

Good to see a foreign star pronouncing Pakistan as Pakistan, instead of the gora usual Paaaekistan

If only he could actually be there to cut a promo before the toss!!

He did this but didn’t want 25 mill from the saudis to win the world title again :))

That’s one hell of a promo from DY via satellite though :yk

The Rock and Remember the name Asif Ali segment before the match

“it Doesn’t matter what your name is!!”

Just goes to show how big and greatest this rivalry is. Have you seen this type of hype for any India vs Australia match? :inti

My man Dwayne. Pretty sure he has no interest in cricket but great to see someone pronouncing Pakistan properly.

Rock was always big in Pak, remember his shirts were always up for sale by every random stall vendor in the streets of Karachi during his peak as a wrestler. Probably was willing to cut a promo as goodwill :))

The word rivalry has been mocked again and again when it comes to India Vs Pakistan matches. No test matches for decades,No ODI bilateral for ages and still it's the greatest rivalry!!!

Funny

Very good points. These are the facts.

I wonder where those record-breaking eyeballs, along with revenue, come from every time there is a Pak vs India game. Apparently common folks don't care for it, it's only the media houses, the rivalry also doesn't exist... Mr Mainul has even called these facts!

This is so hard to explain!

Hope the match actually takes place. It will be an anticlimax if it gets rained off. My friend is driving all the way to Melbourne from Adelaide to watch the game. Hope he gets to see a great game. For me it is just like any other game. A win for India would help them immensely to progress to the next stage, that is all I care about. Rivalry died when the teams stopped playing cricket against each other besides multi-nation tournaments.

Their facts are a joke, even they know it. Rivalry doesn't mean bilateral series, if your whole nation is coming to a stop for the game and majority of MCG of 90,000 fans will obviously be Indians then you very well know it is there. I believe its Pakistanis who don't take the games as much serious, but for Indians it definitely means a lot. Their media and countless fans reactions tell you the story. Only reason why they act more humble now is their arrogance have come down crashing after Pakistan started beating them regularly again.

Did the rock just promoted india vs Pakistan? :))

and we have Indian fans claiming no one cares about this.

Your own media is calling this the greatest rivalry

I have so many friends flying from New Zealand and even Pakistan for this match bro.

Why were they attacked and called pakistani/khalistani? Is this game so big for our people that they get hurt badly after any loss against Pakistan? I thought it was just another game for India and Indians? It surely hurts ego of our fans to accept that Pakistan is still our greatest arch rival. We can't ignore this rivalry for too long. :kp

Present indian government is responsible for this hatred towards muslims/sikhs and you think they will track their andhbhakhts on social media platforms? :))) :inti

India vs Pakistan is the greatest rivalry but it is nowhere near Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh or Bangladesh vs Afghanistan rivalry. That rivalry is out of this earth. Now imagine Hornswoggle doing a promo for that rivalry. Just imagine the vibes. :shakib :inti

:))) POTY

The naggin derby, they need to choreograph that move as a team, the Bengalis

Same Indians / Pakistanis who say this rivalry doesn’t exist are the first ones to take off their lungis and wave them in the air when their side wins the clash. Stop the cap.

He was super over there, I went to visit maybe in the mid 2000’s and on some pak channel my cousin was watching episodes of the AE era and The Rock’s prime as champion :))

Funny

It's the greatest rivalry not because of the quality of cricket but the political tension between the two countries..which is a shame because the quality isnt half bad

Imagine he at the toss and when the coin lands.."it doesn't matter who won the toss"

Rock: Rohit you won the toss what do you wanna do?

Sharma: I think we will…

Rock: it doesn’t matter what you wanna do!!!

It's like when a husband and wife meets with one another once or twice in a decade and says we have the greatest relationship....

You can mock Bangladesh Vs Srilanka contest to take attention from the topic but the fact is India Vs Pakistan contest has lost its colour and it's really a faded rivalry now. Last bilateral ODI series was played a decade ago, last test series some 16 years back. It doesn't make a sense now to label that even a rivalry let alone the greatest. One ODI or T20 match once in 2 or 4 years doesn't count.
