Well, i consider Ponting to be better than Rhodes. Surprisingly he doesn't find a place in the list.

Suresh Raina number 1 fielder? lmao. I think Rhodes must have developed some special friendship with raina because even my Indian colleagues will admit that this was a bit over the top from the legend

No Azhar lol But I remember two of the easiest catches shelled by Ahar in same innings in SA. It was like someone lobbing the ball. But we were not aware of his fixing scandals though

Wonder if any Pakistan fielder will ever come in that list?

Raina might not be even among top5 Indian fielders of all time
This.

On top of my head, following will come way ahead of Raina.

1) Solkar (short leg)
2) Azhar (anywhere in field)
3) R Jadeja (anywhere in field)
4) Gavaskar (slips)
5) Yuvraj (point)
6) Dravid/Rahane (in slips)

Yuvi ? the guy was average at best

only Jadeja is better , Raina easily our second best

Lol where is Ponting

He is the greatest fielder of all time. His versatility to feild in any position and his insane ablity to take hit the stumps is unmatched

Raina no1?? Does jonty work for the same IPL team as raina

He doesnt make it into most people top 10 never mind being no1

I was fairly young then but I remember my dad would tell me how special of a fielder Mohammed Kaif was. Can anyone elaborate? Does he belong in the top 5 Indian fielders ever?

Yes definitely.

Great hands and so quick across the ground.

Yup he was the best Indian fielder of that time.. I would rate him slightly better than yuvi.. However R Jadeja is best ever Indian fielder IMO.. Peak Raina probably is second, with Kaif being 3rd.

Yuvi, Azhar, robin Singh, pandya are all very good but slightly behind the three I mentioned.

Lol what rubbish Raina at his peak not the chubby Raina of today was a top notch fielder..

1. R Jadeja
2. Raina
3. Kaif

These are our top 3.. Then the rest you mentioned follow.. You have mentioned specialist in one position but Raina, Kaif and Jadeja are all rounders in fielding.. easily our top 3 ever.

Raina LOL, he isn't even as good as Jadeja. No Ponting?

He is not talking about all time fielders. He is talking about best fielders at a point in time. Jadeja came onto international scene much after Raina. When Raina came in, he was the best fielder in Indian team .

Looks very biased from him. Ponting is overall best all round fielder to play cricket in past few decades.

I was fairly young then but I remember my dad would tell me how special of a fielder Mohammed Kaif was. Can anyone elaborate? Does he belong in the top 5 Indian fielders ever?
Yeah, totally forgot about Kaif. An awesome fielder he was. Hardly ever seen him dropping catches or misfielding.

Yuvi ? the guy was average at best

Yuvraj, average?

Just because he got average in his later years, doesn't mean he was always average. He pouched some excellent catches.

Raina, second best Indian fielder, lol ok.

People's judgement might get clouded by his misdeeds, but Azhar was such a natural fielder in any position he fielded. I still remember the catch he pouched in slips to dismiss last WI batsman in that B&H Tri series game (at Gabba?) in '91-92 and helping India tie that game despite being bowled out for 126!

This guy always had something against Pakistan, so I’m not surprised.

This is an old list, hence no Jadeja, no Shadab.

Not only that, I think Rhodes was asked who are top 5 fielders at that time. Collingwood, Gibbs, Raina were playing at the same time. He was not talking about who is the best fielder so far in history of a Nation.

If we are talking Pakistani fielders, I think Anwar Ali deserves a shout. He has taken some breath taking catches.

Muhammad Kaif is the best Indian fielder of all time.

Jonty is not anti-Pakistan, he is just very pro-Indian.

His daughter was born in India and he named her India.

During his stint with PTV Sports, he got upset with Dr. Nauman for enjoying India’s defeat to some opponent that I cannot recall now.

His stint in the IPL has changed his life. He probably didn’t earn a lot of money during his time in international cricket, which is why he ended up work for a bank after retiring, but he is now set for life thanks to IPL.

His love for India is very understandable. At least he doesn’t come across as a hypocrite like Hayden though.

Surprised not see Mohammed kaif. Raina is a bit overrated IMO. Even Jadeja is better than him .

Yuvraj, average?

Raina, second best Indian fielder, lol ok.

Yuvi was good at making any catch look spectacular , he took a few decent ones thats it .

Yup . Jadeja , Rania and Kaif would be my top three , and truly world class .

Hey guys. I'm Johnty Rhodes and these are my top 5 fielders:

My right arm
My left arm
My right leg
My left leg
Ricky Ponting

I remember this! This was during the 2016 WT20 tournament. Do you also recall right after India beat Australia in the QF, he said something along the lines off "Nauman cheer up you don't look happy India won"

It's his list, so can't argue but I myself rate Mark Waugh DEFINITELY a better all-round fielder than Rhodes and probably Ponting as well. Both were much better slip fielder and better thrower, also both were brilliant in covering 3 areas of fielding - close in catcher (Slip, silly point, short leg), inner ring (point, extra cover, short mid wicket) or boundary. I think, Rhodes was a sort of specialist at point and being Hockey player, his reflexes and anticipation was brilliant, but Mark was a better grabber of the ball while Ponting used to field at point as well and his pick-up towards throwing position was better; Ponting probably had the best direct hit ratio in the game.

My top 5 will be

1. Mark Waugh
2. Ponting
3. Rhodes
4. Symonds
5. Really tough - I probably will go for Hooper or Azhar; both were brilliant all-round fielders and top class slip fielder, Azhar was probably the best slipper against spin.

Raina was a brilliant fielder. I am surprised why would anyone be amazed so much with his name being mentioned among the greatest Indian fielders of all-time.

Did Hayden used harbor some kind of dislike towards Pakistan?
