What's new

[VIDEOS] Abdullah Shafique - International performance watch

He needs to be backed.

Solid Test batter.

We don't have better openers waiting in line.

What other options do we have? Abid Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Fakhar Zaman? Imran Butt? Sahibzada Farhan, Tayyab Tahir?

Give the young man a break and let him work on his technique/issues. Don't over hype him. He is young, has time on his disposal to make a come back if improves.

Real shame about today was looking really good.

Unfortunately he’s in a real rut since that hundred in the first innings of the England series, just 142 runs in 8 innings!

A poor batsman who has been technically exposed at international level. Should be dropped from the team ASAP.

I don't see the hype in him he looked terrible in t20s when he debuted.

And do far his easy ride in test cricket has been on flat tracks and even abid ali probably rated better.

On sena wickets this guy will be poor .

Give the guy some breathing room, he's still relatively new to international cricket and is discovering his game. Back him, and he'll pay dividends in the future. Too good a player not to get out of this rut.

To me he looks like a batsman who’s overly focused on technique and appearance. Needs to keep it simple see it and hit it

He has severe issues with short ball and any 135kph+ bowler with half decent bouncer will be able to bounce him out. He needs to learn leaving the short ball first before trying to take it on

I would still persist with him but playing short ball like that won't he won't survive in the long term

I'm looking forward to seeing how he does in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand as that will truly test his temperament and technique.

As I wrote before, I have faith in him, but his recent run of form has been worrying.

Also if he decides to play the pull shot, then he really needs to go for it, he plays the shot half heartedly and hence the ball doesn't clear the boundary.

Out to a pull shot

I’m thinking about the 1st Test at Rawalpindi against England, the 2nd innings.

This was the exact same dismissal again!

He should be backed he's a good player thiers no alternative baring Hurraira.

Yasir Hameed 2.0

Obsessed with having a pretty technique, brilliant start to his Test career at home on roads but slowly & gradually got exposed against better bowling attacks & never had the mental toughness to resurrect his career.

I would be (pleasantly) surprised if he is still in the team 12 months from now. Pleasantly not because I care but because I don’t want any lifeline for Masood to prolong his joke of a career.

Personally I have zero faith in this batter. Seems to play like a someone who's always worried he's about to get out.

Why Abdullah is a part of our WC squad is completely beyond me. Why are we taking SUCH an inexperienced player in LOIs to the WC?

Saim Ayub and Haris are far, far superior batsmen.

he is one of the best and techincally sound player we have in the squad, he must play remianing matches too in this world cup in place of Fakhar Zaman.

WHAT AN INNINGS, that to in a world cup. ANd his first world cup game

Who is with me?

This guy is a generational talent for all formats. What a player. Will go a long way and has a range of shots that's unmatched in the current Pakistan batting pedigree.

He’s played very well but the one question mark is the ball coming into him early in his innings.

If we beat Sri Lanka in a high scoring pressure chase, it’ll surely give him a lot of confidence for the duration of the World Cup.

One of the best innings ever played and this is his first world cup game, first ever list A century and 8th list A game.

I am glad he played such an innings in his first match this early in the tournament that would be a great boost for him going into the next matches. Hopefully, he stays fit and in form throughout the tournament.

I know Pakistan has a tendency to promote youngsters, but it is ridiculous how overhyped this guy is. He has done absolutely nothing to deserve a run in the national team and yet people are pushing for him in all formats lolol.
Imagine being the guy who posted this two years ago on this thread, what a MORON lol

it's me, i'm the moron

Totally. Became my favorite new Pakistani talent the day I saw his QeA debut century. Technically there is no better young batter than him in the country. Tbh recently even I got a bit skeptical about his LOI potential but thankfully today he has put those doubts to rest rather emphatically. However, this doesn’t mean it’ll be smooth sailing from here given how fickle we are as a nation. One failure and everyone will be baying for his blood. Even today when he was constructing his innings a lot of posters, and some sensible ones, were calling him timid, useless etc. etc. I was hoping and praying for just such an innings and thankfully he delivered.

Issue is our cricketing sensibilities have been so overwhelmed by T20 cricket that we just cannot appreciate a proper innings that doesn’t include a six every over. The innings we saw today was a masterclass in how an ODI chase should be, intelligent and calculated.

l hope he now gets a good run in the team. On his part he needs to iron out a few kinks like his game against spin especially left arm spin.

Also, with his inclusion, 2 out of 4 of my favorite young batters are in the team (the other being Saud). now hoping both Saim and Omair also make it.

Ready to eat humble pie, haven’t seen this magnificence from Abdullah Shafique before so the jury was out. He started off quite slow, and for such a big chase you cannot do that. However, the way he was batting later on, sublime. Literally toying with the bowling and the field.

Even before that QeA hundred, he had a 100 in a National T20 chase, and that was the final of that tournament, I think. That was a masterful innings.

He seem like a nervy starter but once he’s set only he will give you the wicket.

Those nervy starts will go once he’s settled into the team

He scored the Qea hundred before the T20 Hundred
After scoring the Qea Hundred he was dropped for Kamran Akmal or Ahmed Shehzad, if I remember correctly he had to go on loan to Balochistan from Punjab to get game time for the National T20 competition

He's a good player I said he will be the standout batter in this world cup :)

A phenomenal innings the likes of which I have not seen by a Pakistani player in a long time.

Forget Babar, Abdullah is the real deal

Funny how the “Pakistan supporters club” haven’t made an appearance on this thread since Abdullah’s match winning innings?

Or is praise only reserved for Babar and Rizwan.

Abdullah is also a Pakistani player y’know

The ability and striking power this guy has, he should be hungry for runs and he should be looking to boss bowling attacks. He has practically all the shots in the book. If there is one thing he needs to work on, he needs to work on having a full go with the hook, pull shot, he plays it half heartedly due to which he miscues the shot, if he has a full go at it, he like Rohit Sharma should be able to clear the boundary with ease.

Not seen a Pakistani batsman play with such authority, skill and intelligence since late 90s early 00s. Seriously impressed.

Knew he had the textbook technique and skills to succeed, but showcasing these extra gears like he has done today means he has the potential to dominate in all 3 formats like we hoped Babar would. Hope he can make this WC a memorable one.

We've unearthed a gem! Abdullah Shafique in the World Cup so far.

113 vs SL
20 vs IND
64 vs AUS
58 vs AFG

He is one of the few players who have justified their place in the playing XI for team Pakistan in this World Cup. He is reliable and he has a few shots to surprise the opposition bowlers as well. He along with Saim Ayub can be a really good pair at the top for team Pakistan in ODI cricket.
