Saw just one over of his in National T20 cup playing for Baluchistan against KPK. He was selected amongst the emerging players for Pak camp as well along with Musa Khan, Mirza Ahsan Jamil, Arshad Iqbal, Umar Khan etc.

He has a pretty smooth action, decent height and generates some good pace (140 KPH +) along with decent control and accuracy. Doesn’t look like he is afraid of bowling fuller length to extract any swing.

Looks like a pacer to look out for in the future if he remains fit and keeps working hard.

Video of his spell today.

Not sure why he is being hype? Doesn’t seem special to me??

Not being hyped but a young bowler with good action, pace, control over his stock length m and bit of swing is always considered decent prospect as all these traits arent that common in pacers in their teenage or early 20s but obviously his growth depends upon the hard work he puts him.

Obviously he is rated a bit in the circuit as well and that is why he was nominated as emerging player for recent skill camp as well.

A lot of the Fast bowling talent is coming out of KPK these days: Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah, Usman Shinwari, Arshad Iqbal, Sameen Gul, Muhammad Illyas, Akif Javed and Muhammad Musa.

The good thing about the fast bowlers coming out of KPK is that they all seem fit, strong and quick.

Why Punjab especially Lahore are not producing pace bowlers? They used to produce pacers with brains and KPK pacers have just have pace

They are there. It's just a matter who gets lucky and catches someone's eye that has influence. Watch the tournament Lahore Qalandars hosted. Every second bowler was bowling 140k+ and swinging it.

Very raw .His non bowling hand collapse during delivery stride which needs to be fixed

What do you mean KPK bowlers have no brains. The new guys haven't played much. If you're talking about Junaid Khan, Imran Khan sr etc then they don't have pace or brain.

The new guys all have pace and haven't played enough to judge if they have brains. Shaheen Shah has both. Naseem Shah is only 16 and learning. We have only seen these guys mostly in t20s, not first class. The Likes of Sameen Gul, Naseem and Illyas have done well at FC level and that is better than doing well at only t20 cricket. Musa is a little erratic but he is young and is trying to bowl as quick as he can. The fact that Musa can keep on running in and bowl quick for a whole FC match shows that he has excellent fitness and is one to look out for.

I am talking about KPK pacers in general , They are not intelligent to be fair. Umer Gul , Junaid Khan , Imran Khan , Taj Wali , Azharullah , Usman Shinwari ,Ahmed Jamal (Talking about northern region at all) All had some pace but little intelligence.

I think the only bowler who impress me from these areas are Sameen Gul , He is a thinking bowler it seems.

Yep. That't exactly what I'm saying. This new crop of KPK players seem more developed. Sameen looks really good. Good pace, height, inswing and nips it around.

How old is he? He doesn’t look very tall in the picture of Manzoor’s wicket

How does he looked in this match? Any swing or variations?

How he actually looked?

He was decent today but his temperament was really impressive as the opposition was chasing 234 and was going all out but he didnt panic and kept his calm. He was definitely clicking high 130s and early 140s kph today. He got bit of swing in the last match but today not so much but then none of the bowlers have extracted much swing. He does have a pacy short ball and also decent fuller length balls. However, he needs to work on developing slower balls.

Not sure about the exact age but he must be in his teens or early 20s. He definitely looks 6, 6 plus but obviously not as tall as Shaheen.

Angle of the picture is deceiving.

He looks well over 6 foot.

Awesome! That’s great to hear! I saw all the praise but was reluctant to buy into it as he seemed short but it seems like he is a good height! Imagine a pace battery of Shareen and Akif bowling at you from those heights!

My first name is also Akif so I am extremely biased and I want him to succeed :))

Oh. Great to know that Akif. :)

He does have quite a few good qualities but what will make the difference is how much determination he has and how much hardwork he can do.

Too bad he has not played any first class this year. He is definitely one to look forward

Mentioned this lad to Waqar and he stated that he and Misbah pushed for Akif to be included in the National T20 Cup tournament.

Akif's final figures for the match : 1/36 in 4 overs today

Waqar Younis mentioned him in his comments today

"In cricket, pace makes a big difference; Mohammad Hasnain is one who has really impressed me - he is playing T20I cricket but he is not ready for 50 overs or Test cricket, he is still growing and he is still young; Naseem Shah is another one, Akif is another one, he is a left-armer and his pace is not bad"

Akif has that Zaheer Khan jump in his delivery stride but he looks like Ashish Nehra.

How weird!!

He has a few flaws which can be seen just by watching this. He doesn't have a follow through adn doesn't get much energy through the crease. He just stops after delivering the ball, part of the reason is probably because his leap is more vertical than horizontal, which takes a lot of that momentum from the run up out.

If he can fix this then he can gain maybe 5-10 kph. No better person than Waqar to fix this though.

Leap like Zaheer Khan?

Leap like Zaheer Khan?

Yeah he does, but that type of leap does take away that momentum you gained in the run up. Unless you hae swing, seam and accuracy, this type of leap isn't good as it will slow you down a touch. It worked for Zaheer as he was a swing bowler. His leap should be a bit more horizontal than that if he wants to bowl quicker. A good follow through will naturally happen then as more momentum is going through the crease.

Gets the very talented in all facets Hafeez wicket today!

Also gets Shan - on fire this man

May not be as quick as Hasnain or Naseem but he is definitely more polished than both of them.

He has played 3 domestic matches in total, all 3 of them are t20 and all 3 came in the last 7 days.

Naseem looks the most polished, followed by Akif. Akif looks like a good prospect which could be selected in a year or 2. Good pace and seam position. There are 1 or 2 things he needs to work on in his action that are very evident.

What a spell today with 4-0-16-3 and that includes wickets of Shan Masood and Hafeez on ducks along with wicket of Yamin who has been in really good form lately.

A smooth operator, effortless bowling action in a way. He looked good today. But no need to fast track him, let him play 15 all format domestic games at least.

For a 21 y/o guy who never been in a domestic circuit , he is far more polished than the guys who are coming through the ranks of U16 and U19. That alone is incredible.

Where is he from, is he Balochi? Definitely has more control than Hasnain.

It will come down to a simple question- can he swing the ball back into right handers? If he can, he has a future, if he cant he will play but without uprooting any trees.

He has shown some signs but under these conditions its not practically possible.

3/16 in 4 overs - another excellent performance by Akif.

Really good spell today.

Looks good. Nice action and shapes it both ways. Hopefully gets games for Balochistan in the FC tournament too.

That around the wicket delivery which got Yamin with bit of movement away had Wasim Akram kind of feel to it. :rahat1

Definitely looks like he can swing the ball and has decent pace.

It's disappointing PTV has such a poor video and sound quality and there's no radar guns to keep track of how fast bowlers are bowling.

He swings it both ways at good pace under these conditions, This spell reminds me of Junaid Khan spells in India although this one is definitely lower quality. But hey not a single bowler in entire domestic who can consistently swings it.

Looks a real talent- still can't tell about the in swing although there was something there. Pace def around 85mph, which is perfect for a swing Bowler.

How old is he? Young enough to play the U19 World Cup?

Apparently turned 19 a week ago.

A bit of skill this lad. Bowls with some thought behind it rather than just running in and bowling.

Plenty of ability, just needs guidance.

Good analysis, he could definitely add some pace if he sorts out his leap and follow through.

Impressive control over line and length given his inexperience, and was able to get a hint of movement in what are batting friendly conditions.

It would be a tragedy if not picked up by a FC team.

He has a white-ball contract with Balochistan right now... if the rules allow it, they should definitely draft him in the team for the longest format. Taj Wali is really struggling, while Khurram Shehzad hasn't made an impact. Amad Butt is their highest wicket-taker amongst pacers in the QEA Trophy, with 6 wickets @ 59. They could also get 18-year-old Akhtar Shah in from the 2nd XI too, he's been decent in the 2 games he's played.

So does that make him eligible for the U19 WC? As far as I know the cut off date for ages is usually a bit before the tournament actually starts. Hope he's eligible and is selected because we and the world will get a better look at him. In domestic cricket he may just be benched. Although he does have an advantage that Baluchistan doesn't really have any good fast bowlers.

Under 19 WC practically is a under 20 tournament. I might be wrong but I think a player can participate in under 19 WC prior to his 20th birthday.

Also a higher leap can put extra pressure on the knees, ankles, back and hip as you are landing harder. This can lead to stress fractures over time, he should be careful. I've had a similar problem where I used to leap to high and landed hard on the pitch, causing back, knee and hip pain.

Good to see this Young King thriving! Hafeez is mediocre these days but getting the wicket of Hafeez and Shan is certainly a big statement and will make the selectors notice him.

As discussed, he has height, decent pace and good control so spending time in a professional set up will only help him improve! He could definitely pick up his pace if he builds some lean muscle and takes care of himself. Control is already there so its a matter of working on his pace and refining his bowling technique.

Disappointing for him as not been invited for the bowler's camp by Waqar - Maybe too early for him but guess Waqar knows best!
