PTI without Imran Khan is looking clueless. There are no streamline party policies, no unanimous and organized narrative against the flawed policies of the government. Mr. Gundapur is embracing Mohsin Naqvi, the chief organizer of 9th May abductions and violence against PTI.

The narrative on Election rigging has gone under the bus, their take on current establishment involvement in judicial affairs is so weak and meek. They are unable to stage and organize grand processions for the liberty of Imran Khan and are unleashing on their own allies. Infact, everything is at sixes and nine at the moment for PTI.

Imran Khan seems to be forgotten and history now, all the hype about the corruption during the elections is slowly dying. And offcourse Gandapur looks to be on friendly terms with the Establishment/Federal Government now.

What is the way now for Imran Khan to be out of Prison and lead the party ? There is no urgency whatsoever to get him released from the Prison..

The establishment initially supported PTI, but now they have brought them down to earth. Therefore, PTI members should not hold grudges against the establishment. PTI hasn't achieved any remarkable feat to be proud of.

Guys like Murad Saeed, need to take the reins back but again would be arrested the next moment he makes a comeback.

The submissive attitude by PTI is just devouring their popularity among masses.

PTI has seen and sufferer with their gung ho attitude against the PDM, Army and Western Establishment from 2022 to 2023. They are now behaving exactly as most political analysts advised them too i.e. to build their bridges with the opposition parties, International Establishment players and to stop having a black-white view on politics. They are now following Zardari's approach of being patient and having a long term view of their actions, decisions.

180 seats is country wide support now estb.
Your pathetic party is being leashed by the establishment and here you're commenting on PTI.

I just googled who Gundapur is first such a Pun-able name second if even one controversy is true seems like a vile human.

They expected Pakistani awam to support them, instead they realized what Establishment is actually capable of.

Lets be real, as long as Uncle Sam is strongly behind the army, the army and PDM will do whatever it takes to keep the present arrangement afloat and if that means occupying all key institutions, using force against the people then so be it. PTI can't do anything if people are not willing to come out on the streets. You can't blame them for wanting to play it safe now, they have endured a lot in the last 2 years.

I think IK remained pacific for too long even before his detention and now no one in PTI is willing and capable to bring masses on the street for the ultimate show down, actually the people don't realize that even to turn up in large number alone could shake the rival forces big time.

Asad Qaiser advised KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to cut ties with the Centre, stating that it's time for resistance, not reconciliation. Do these clowns want to lead the country towards civil war?

The legal team of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday demanded the resignation of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq, stating that the judges' letter has proven that the justice system has become paralysed.

The demand by the former ruling party comes amid a controversy whipped up by a letter penned by six IHC judges to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC).

In the missive, the judges revealed the coercive tactics employed by intelligence agencies to influence judges—revelations that sent shockwaves across the legal and political landscape.

Some 'munafiqs' still in PTI, says Shehryar Afridi as rifts among leadership rise

Amid increasing rifts among Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership, party leader Shehryar Afridi said there were some "hypocrites" who are still a part of the Imran Khan-founded party.

Addressing a public gathering in Kohat on Friday, Afridi said: "We are sending a message to the party members that the workers and loyalists of the party should be supported, those who are the foundation of the party."

The PTI leader made these comments after he had applied for the Senator's seat, however, his name was rejected by PTI's senior leadership including Omar Ayub Khan, Sher Afzal Marwat and Ali Amin Gandapur.

Afridi blasted the leadership, saying that there were some "snakes" and "hypocrites" who were part of the PTI and whoever betrays the party will be excluded from it.

The rifts among the PTI leadership have been widening with members being divided on different matters related to party decisions.

Recently, Marwat and Khan's close aide Salman Ahmad engaged in a war of words on social media platform X after the latter called the former "wrong number".

During the public gathering, which was also attended by party leaders Shafi Ullah Jan and Aftab Alam, Afridi also said that they have "completely prepared for the release of prisoner number 804".

"PTI's major public gathering will be held in Kohat after Eid," he added.

PTI disavows Marwat's allegations of Saudi role in 'regime change’

The central leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its spokesperson have distanced themselves from the views expressed by firebrand party leader Sher Afzal Marwat in a private TV program regarding Saudi Arabia's alleged role in a supposed 'regime change operation', which the party blames for the overthrow of Imran Khan’s government.

During a segment on a private TV channel yesterday, Marwat suggested that Saudi Arabia, alongside the United States, played a part in the downfall of Imran Khan's government. This statement coincided with a high-profile visit from Saudi Arabia, led by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

In response, the PTI issued a statement on Wednesday asserting that Marwat's views do not reflect the party's strategy or stance in any manner. The party clarified that his statement is his personal opinion and not endorsed by the PTI leadership or its members at any level.

The spokesperson highlighted the importance of Pakistan's relationship with Saudi Arabia, terming it as one of the country's closest and most trusted brotherly Islamic nations. He underlined the mutual respect, trust, and brotherhood between PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Excellency Mohammad bin Salman, which the party values highly.

Furthermore, the spokesperson reiterated PTI's commitment to fostering close cooperation and brotherhood between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The party expressed well wishes for the welfare and development of Saudi leadership and people, reaffirming PTI's dedication to playing a constructive role in this regard.

The latest development adds to a series of controversies involving Marwat, who has previously caused internal discord within the party.

Earlier this month, Imran Khan reportedly removed Marwat from key party positions, including as a focal person and from the group responsible for vetting individuals permitted to meet Khan at Adiala Jail.

Additionally, Marwat was instructed to disband his social media team. These decisions were said to have been made based on recommendations from the PTI core committee.

Even though Marwat is a mole, what he is saying is not untrue. Imran with his foolishness had badly damaged Pakistan's relations with Saudi Arabia and many countries. He failed to segregate his personal views, stances with the stances that was in the best interests of the country. It is one of the arguments the army uses to justify them disowning him.

Omar Ayub, Barrister Gohar, other PTI leaders’ interim bail approved

As per details, the district and session judge Awais Ahmed Khan heard the bail plea filed by PTI leaders.

The PTI counsel told the court that the administration registered a baseless and false case against the party leaders. He added that every time PTI organizes a peaceful rally, cases are registered against it.

At this, the district and session court approved the interim bail of PTI leaders against surety bonds worth Rs 5000 each.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan’s interim bail extended in vandalism case.

Talking to newsmen, Omar Ayub claimed 95 ‘fake’ cases have been registered against him under sections of murder, attempt to murder and terrorism.

He demanded the release of all PTI workers including the former prime minister.

It is pertinent to mention here that Omar Ayub also demanded the formation of an independent commission that would investigate the events surrounding the May 9 riots when public and military installations were vandalised.

Imran and PTI have been let down by fine cowardice of their supporters.

PTI supporters have proved to be paper tigers. They have loud mouths and act tough on social media but a bit of pressure and they ran away with their tails tucked between their legs.

They talked a good game when they were backed by the establishment but as soon as the tide turned, their resilience wavered.

The treatment dished out on May 9th was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Govt voices concern after SC’s verdict on PTI-SIC reserved seats

The federal government on Monday expressed concerns regarding a Supreme Court order that suspended the allocation of reserved seats to other parties by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

A three-judge bench, led by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, granted leave to appeal and adjourned the matter till June 3. The bench unanimously suspended the ECP's decision for the re-allocation of reserved seats to other political parties.

The PHC through its earlier verdict dashed the PTI's hopes of getting reserved seats as it dismissed the Sunni Ittehad Council's (SIC) petition challenging the ECP's ruling that denied reserved seats to the party.

PTI-backed independent candidates had found a new home in the SIC after the party lost its election symbol as a result of the ruling in the intra-party election case.

This is the first time the PTI has managed to secure relief from the apex court during the tenure of CJP Qazi Faez Isa.

"This is a matter of constitutional interpretation; it would have been appropriate if larger bench issued directives,” Tarar said in a statement.

He said that the top court should have exercised caution in its interim order, saying that the final decision of the PHC will stand.

The federal minister remarked that under the Practice and Procedure Act of the Supreme Court, it was appropriate and preferable for a five-member larger bench to hear such matters.

“According to Article 67, the eligibility of a member's legislation is not questioned; it is hoped that the final decision of the Peshawar High Court will prevail,” he concluded.

Only way back for PTI if it offers earnest apology, forgoes politics of anarchy: DG ISPR

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif on Tuesday said that any dialogue with the PTI could happen only if it “earnestly apologises in front of the nation”, promises to adopt “constructive politics” and forgoes “politics of anarchy”.

The DG ISPR made the remarks in a lengthy press conference in Rawalpindi just two days before May 9 — a day that holds significant importance in the country’s political landscape as it was on this day last year when military installations came under attack following PTI founder Imran Khan’s arrest, which formed the basis of a severe state crackdown against him and his party.

In the question and answer sessions, Gen Sharif was asked if there was a possibility of any dialogue with the PTI to which he replied: “If some political mindset, leader or clique attacks its own army, causes rifts between the army and its people, insults the nation’s martyrs and issues threats and hatches propagandas, then there can be no dialogues with them.

“There is only one way back for such political anarchists that it (PTI) asks for an earnest pardon in front of the nation and promises that it will forgo politics of hate and adopt constructive [style of] politics.

“In any case, such dialogues should take place between political parties. It is not appropriate for the army to be involved.”

Earlier in the session, Gen Sharif was also asked about May 9, to which he said: “Firstly, May 9 is not just the Pakistan Army’s case but the entire country’s.

“If, in any country, an attack is launched on its army, symbols of its martyrs are insulted, its founder’s house is set on fire, hatred is created between its army and public, and if the people behind it are not brought to justice, then there is a question mark on that country’s justice system.

“We believe that if we have to maintain trust in the justice system of Pakistan, then May 9 perpetrators — both the perpetrators and those commanding them — must be sentenced according to the Constitution and the law.

“Nothing is hidden about May 9. The public, the army and we all have irrefutable evidence. All of us saw this incident unfolding, we all saw how everyone was [brainwashed] against the army, its leadership, agencies and institutions through lies and propaganda.”

You know how desperate these losers have become when they consider themselves to be God. IK has refused their deals and they know don't what to do. The whole fake 9th May was rumbled when all the CCTV disappeared. If these thugs had a case we wouldn't have 100s of cases waiting like Dr Yasmin and others.
The other thing is that they believe they are above the PK state and above the law. But who gave them this right except the guns and ranks.

‘Ready to face inquiry into 2014 sit-in’, Imran responds to military flak

Former prime minister and incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, has said that he is ready for any inquiry into his party’s 2014 sit-in, a day after the chief military spokesperson hinted at a judicial probe into the event.

“I will be happy if I am presented before the inquiry committee. All the allegations leveled against me regarding the 2014 sit-in are false… the 2013 election was the election of ROs,” he remarked while interacting informally with the media at Adiala Jail on Wednesday.

The army on Tuesday sought a sincere and public apology from Khan and asked him to shun what it called “politics of anarchy and hate” to revive his political fortunes. However, at the same time, it dismissed the possibility of any ‘deal’ with the PTI founder, saying there won’t be any talks with “anarchists.”

At a press conference, DG Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Ahmed Sharif said that there was no doubt that the PTI was behind the May 9 riots. However, he said that yet some people were demanding the judicial commission to probe the events of May 9. He said the army was ready for the formation of a judicial commission but added that such an inquiry should also cover the 2014 sit-in and other related events.

The DG ISPR denied the 'narrative' that May 9 was a 'false flag operation'.

In today’s media interaction, Imran Khan also questioned the feasibility of negotiations with the federal government in light of former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar's reference to Form-47.

Kakar, while having a heated exchange with PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi over wheat scandal, had reportedly hinted at dropping a bombshell regarding Form-47, insinuating that it "would leave the PML-N red-faced".

Kakar hinted at possible tampering in Form-47 while speaking to Abbasi, a veiled reference to allegations also made by the opposition PTI, whose candidates allege rigging in the Feb 8 general elections.

However, Kakar later clarified that his remarks were taken out of context in the media, stating that he merely corrected Abbasi's erroneous statements regarding the caretaker government's handling of the wheat procurement.

During the media interaction, Khan further alleged that PML-N members had suggested no elections would occur and Nawaz Sharif would not return to the country until Justice Qazi Faiz Isa became the chief justice.

He criticised the electoral processes, asserting that elections for president, prime minister, Punjab chief minister, and Senate were fraudulent. He claimed that private conversations with PML-N members revealed their belief that elections and Sharif's return hinged on Justice Qazi Faiz Isa's appointment as chief justice.

Khan said that half of his family is in the army and half in the bureaucracy. “The army belongs to us, and we have no conflicts with it,” he remarked a day after the military’s top spokesperson came down hard on Khan and his party over the May 9 mayhem.

“I only came to know about the events of May 9 when I was presented in the Supreme Court… I condemned the events of May 9 in front of then chief justice Umar Atta Bandial,” he said.

“For God’s sake, don't drag army into politics… we have never indulged in agitation in our 27-year history… we dissolved two governments [in Punjab and at Centre] for elections because our political party does not want chaos,” said the incarcerated leader.

Asad Qaiser said yesterday that we don't even offer apologies to our forefathers so who are they (pointing towards establishment)
=====
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday took a major U-turn on holding dialogue with establishment following the press conference of Director-General (DG) Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), seeking apology from the party over May 9 events, ARY News reported.

Speaking at ARY News programme ‘Khabar’, PTI leader Asad Qaiser said that his party does not want to engage in talks with anyone, emphasising that it only seeks to uphold “constitutional and legal supremacy”.

The former National Assembly (NA) speaker said that PTI believes in the supremacy of the Constitution and the law, and wants all institutions to work within their constitutional limits.

Responding to a question, Qaiser expressed scepticism over constitution of a committee to hold talks with establishment, saying that no discussion about a negotiation committee was held during meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan.

He also mentioned that PTI wants to take along all those who have reservations about the recently-held elections, clarifying that they will not engage with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

In response to another question, the PTI leader stated that they also want a judicial commission to be formed to investigate the elections. “If our claims are incorrect, they will be proven false. The commission can start investigating from wherever it wants.”

Earlier in the day, DG ISPR Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif on Tuesday said that any dialogue with the PTI could happen only if it “apologises sincerely publicly in front of the nation.

Commenting on the prospects of dialogue with any faction, Maj Gen Chaudhry said: “No talks will be held with any political leader, or group which attacks its own army and indulges in propaganda [against them]”.

“There can be no dialogue with an anarchist group,” he noted adding that the “only way forward for the anarchists [group] is to apologise sincerely, abandon the politics of hate and indulge in constructive politics [instead]”.

“Talks are for political parties, not institutions,” the army’s spokesperson

Responding to another question, DG ISPR said the party only gained 31 per cent of votes in the February 8 elections. He also rejected the impression those who voted for the party in general elections endorsed the May 9 attacks.

PTI’s Omar Ayub hinges talks with return of ‘stolen seats’, quashing Imran’s cases

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub on Friday stated that any talks with “Form-47 parties”, referring to the PPP, PML-N and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), would be dependent on the return of the PTI’s “stolen seats” and the quashing of cases against party founder Imran Khan.

Since the aftermath of the February 8 general elections, the PTI has claimed that the Form 47s of 18 National Assembly seats allegedly won by the party were “falsely changed” by returning officers. The PTI alleges that it was winning “170 seats” according to the Form 45s.

Speaking in an interview with DawnNewsTV programme ‘Doosra Rukh’, Ayub was questioned on which stakeholder the PTI wanted talks with, to which he said: “The three parties — PPP, PML-N and MQM-P — are beneficiaries of Form 47 [manipulation] thus they should step back from that, return our stolen seats to us, quash Imran Khan’s cases and finish military trials of our people and then talks can be held with them.”

Ayub said the party wanted constitutional supremacy but the above three parties had come into power due to “discrepancies in Form 47 and undemocratic discrepancies which we reject”.

He reiterated that the PTI would be willing to hold talks if its “stolen mandate” was returned to it, hinting toward the stepping down of the incumbent government.

Questioned about the party’s previous willingness to hold talks with the PPP and PML-N after the PTI government’s ouster compared to now, Ayub said the situation was different then as “theft [of electoral mandate] due to Form 47 [manipulation] had not happened as it has now”.

He said the PTI laid the three parties, the caretaker government, the Election Commission of Pakistan and the chief election commissioner as responsible for the “robbery”.

The opposition leader called for a judicial commission to investigate the entire affair of the election, adding that it would also determine the establishment’s alleged role, if any, in the matter.

He also demanded the resignation of the chief election commissioner.

Questioned about any attempted contact with Imran or messages sent to him, or with PTI leaders, since the PTI founder was imprisoned, Ayub categorically said: “No. No there is nothing like this in my knowledge. No one has had any contact.”

The opposition leader also rebuffed PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah’s offer of talks as being “non-serious”, saying that no confidence-building measures were first taken to demonstrate sincerity for negotiations.

Ayub also criticised PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s lashing of the PTI in Wednesday’s National Assembly session, saying he rejected the speech and that it did not befit a “serious politician who calls himself a party chairman”.

He predicted a further deterioration in the assembly’s affairs. “This is not a government but an unguided mob.”

PTI rejects FIR registered for attack on party spokesperson Raoof Hasan, accuses police of tampering

The PTI on Wednesday rejected the first information report (FIR) registered by Islamabad police for the attack on the party’s central information secretary Raoof Hasan by unknown persons outside the office of a news channel a day earlier.

Following the incident on Tuesday, the capital police said in a statement that Hasan had his face slashed with a blade and cited eyewitnesses to identify a group of transgender persons as the assailants.

A police spokesman said Hasan was attacked as he came out of the TV channel’s office after appearing in a programme. He was taken to the hospital for medical assistance where police also reached to get a medico-legal certificate.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on police action in the matter so far, PTI leader Omar Ayub alleged that the police tampered with the FIR, adding that it did not reflect what Hasan had stated in his written complaint.

Ayub said that the party rejected the FIR registered and called for a judicial commission to investigate the incident.

“The statement given by Raoof Hassan mentions with clarity the events that occurred,” he said. “We categorically reject and condemn the subsequent FIR that was lodged by Islamabad Police. It is an attempt to tamper with the case by the police.

“We want to know who pressured Islamabad police to write and register that FIR, which does not mention the word terrorism at all.

“This assassination attempt was clearly an act of terrorism. The FIR has been altered in an attempt to tamper with the investigation of this case. We demand the judiciary to immediately form a judicial commission.”

Ayub mentioned the allegation of meddling in judicial affairs levelled at security agencies by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in March to imply that same may have been done with the case of assault on Hasan.

“I’m sure you all know of the letter of six judges to the supreme judicial council, which stated that the judges’ family members were intimidated by security agencies, the ISI,” he said.

“Given the current state of affairs, this matter should be investigated by a judicial commission and swift justice should be delivered to Raoof Hassan.”

Ayub warned that if the PTI leadership was targeted in such a manner again, the party would stage peaceful protests nationwide. “The direct impact of these protests would be targeted at Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz.”

Meanwhile, Hasan hinted that the attack on him was a part of the state’s crackdown against the PTI and its leadership. “What our party has endured in the past two years is not hidden. The media’s voice along with our party’s has also been muzzled,” he said.

“Ever since Imran Khan was ousted [from the prime minister’s office], the state has used all kinds of force and unleashed cruelty on PTI and its workers — a parallel of which cannot be found in South Asian region.”

Hasan said that despite the party’s demands to bring the perpetrators of May 9 to justice through a proper investigation, no judicial commission was formed.

Without naming anyone, he accused a figure of authority of acting as a dictator. “This one person lurks in the shadows and hides behind screens undermines the people’s wishes and only does as he pleases, believing that what he says is the only reality.”

“Behind the smokescreen of democracy, there is a dictatorship in this state. For the past two years, they have pushed the public to accept this dictatorship.”

Saying that what happened to him was a “very small incident”, Hasan lashed out and asked who was responsible for the crackdown on PTI workers and leaders, what legal justification was there for it and who was the person behind it.

Hasan said the attack on him was part of a “proper orchestrated plan”, saying that he had previously encountered the transgender assailants on Monday as well.

“They were well-trained bodies with taut muscles so they were not transgenders. The transgender community has also disowned them,” he said, adding that they were continuously threatening him that they would kill him.

Addressing the powerful quarters of the country, Hasan said: “You have failed and earned disrepute. Look what the people are saying about you on social media. Introspect and see what mistakes you are making and finish them instead of perpetuating them. Accept the people’s mandate and give form to a democratic government.”

Meanwhile, a statement from the Islamabad police spokesperson said the force was conducting the investigation in a professional manner, adding that the FIR was registered as per Hasan’s signed application.

It said that a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of the senior superintendent of police (investigation). “Islamabad police will take the case to its logical conclusion on merit,” the statement said.

PTI leaders sound alarm over ‘threat’ to Imran’s life

Senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday raised alarm over the potential assassination threat to former prime minister Imran Khan.

Speaking at a press conference at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad a day after the party’s Central Secretariat was sealed by Capital Development Authority (CDA) for violating building by-laws, PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, Latif Khosa, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, and Ali Muhammad Khan underscored the grave dangers facing their leader.

"Imran Khan had already expressed concerns about his life being in danger, and now it seems that is becoming a reality," Raoof Hasan stated. "They used to remove and install prime ministers at will, but when things didn’t go their way this time, they orchestrated the drama of May 9."

Raoof Hasan revealed that PTI’s Secretariat was broken into last night. "Just a day before, a UN delegation was here, and they attacked us. Even the UN vehicle was inspected," he said. "Their hatred has not subsided. We have been living under state fascism for two years. They couldn’t accept the election results showing massive public support for Imran Khan. Despite all their tactics, Khan’s strength only grew. Now, it seems their last resort is assassination."

Ali Muhammad Khan called the recent attack on the PTI Secretariat an attack on democracy itself. "They are closing down spaces where the largest political party can communicate. Last night’s incident shows that their intolerance knows no bounds," he declared. "When political party offices are shut, non-state actors get an opportunity. Is the ideology of PTI just in a building? No, it resides in our hearts."

He added, "Imran Khan, who once carried Pakistan's flag around the world, is being treated with contempt. How long will this nation continue to sacrifice its leaders? Look at Dr. Yasmin Rashid, an 80-year-old cancer patient, bedridden. Do they think they can intimidate Raoof Hasan by attacking him? It hasn’t worked."

He added, "Imran Khan, who once carried Pakistan's flag around the world, is being treated with contempt. How long will this nation continue to sacrifice its leaders? Look at Dr Yasmin Rashid, an 80-year-old cancer patient, bedridden. Do they think they can intimidate Raoof Hasan by attacking him? It hasn’t worked."

Ali Muhammad Khan also criticised the government for not allowing him to meet the party’s founder. "He wanted to go to the Supreme Court himself. An atomic state can’t provide security for a 40-minute drive from Adiala to the Supreme Court?" he asked. "What message is being given from the Centre by excluding Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chief Minister from the SIFC,” he questioned.

Latif Khosa condemned the targeting of PTI. "I am an MNA from Punjab, and our office there has been sealed. The office owner was arrested and is being subjected to the May 9 trial. This is blatant theft and robbery under official supervision," he asserted. "If they think they can break PTI’s spirit, they are mistaken."

Khosa also criticised the judiciary's treatment. "They are attacking the judiciary to pressure it. How can the Senate Chair allow such fiery speeches against the judiciary? They openly challenge it," he said.

We are ready if PTI intends to hold talks: Yousaf Raza Gillani

“We didn’t say at any time, we are not on the side of the government,” PPP stalwart Gillani said in a media talk.

“We are extending full support to the government and engaged in talks with it for joining the government,” he said. “We will take responsibility if joined the government,” he further said. “We will support them in all good works,” he added.

Gillani said that no parliament bill, or law will be passed without us.

A delegation of Pakistan People’s Party called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today. The PPP demanded for a farmer and youth-friendly budget for the next year.

The delegation comprised of former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Syed Naveed Qamar, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Senator Sherry Rehman.

The delegation also discussed political situation with the prime minister.

Islamabad admin representative informed the court during the hearing on contempt of court plea filed by the PTI in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The Islamabad district administration had refused the PTI permission to hold a rally despite the IHC order.

The IHC was informed that the Deputy Commissioner’s Office has granted the PTI permission to hold a rally on the Rawat-GT Road.

The district administration has issued NOC to PTI to hold public rally with 39 conditions.

As per the condition, anti-state slogans and speeches aren’t allowed in the public rally and it has to be concluded on stipulated time.

Doubling down in the face of heated government criticism, the PTI on Friday called for the contents of the Hamoodur Rahman Commission (HRC) Report to be immediately released to the public

In a post on social media platform X dated May 26, PTI founder Imran Khan’s account had shared a video along with a quote attributed to him: “Every Pakistani should study the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report and get to know who was the true traitor, General Yahya Khan or Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”

The video argued that the former military dictator was the one actually responsible for the country’s breakup, referring to alleged atrocities committed by the Pakistani military during the civil war.

The posts generated intense blowback and controversy, particularly from the government ranks. An investigation has been launched by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Wing into the post.

The PTI subsequently on Tuesday distanced Imran from the controversial social media post, saying it was not aimed towards the military and should be seen in a “political context”.

However, after a few days of explanations and clarifications by a myriad of PTI leaders in the face of persistent criticism from the government ranks, the party doubled down today and demanded the HRC report’s immediate release.

PTI founder’s X account being operated from US: Raoof Hasan

PTI Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan has asserted that the official X account of party founder Imran Khan was being operated from United States as its social media team was based in US, ARY News reported on Friday.

Speaking at ARY News programme ‘Off the Record’, Hasan said that PTI founder Imran Khan is in jail and cannot upload videos on X himself. He added that the PTI social media team, which operates from United States (US), handles the party’s accounts.

The PTI spokesperson clarified that Imran Khan was unaware of the video related to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the party’s assembly members may have retweeted the video in their “personal capacity”. He also stated that an inquiry will be conducted within the party regarding the video issue.

Raoof Hasan claimed that he had not seen the video due to ‘personal engagements’, but if there is anything objectionable in the video, he will discuss it with the social media team, which is based in US.

He added that if the video is against the party’s narrative, it will be rectified. Hasan also said that they will fully cooperate if any agency wants to investigate the matter.

The PTI leader further said that party founder has not been using his X official handle since his imprisonment, and the party does not have control over digital media.

The spokesperson stated that the individuals managing the party’s social media accounts are not party employees, and Imran Khan had made a decision regarding the X handle at some point, but it was not implemented.

He announced that a system will be put in place to ensure that the X handle is operated with proper clearance in the future.

The spokesperson also quoted Imran Khan as saying he still believes the Pakistan Army is more important for the country than him.

The capital administration on Friday allowed the PTI to hold a public gathering on June 8 at an open space near Rawat, instead of F-9 Park as requested, subject to terms and conditions to be followed by the party.

Officials of the capital administration said the PTI had filed an application seeking permission for the gathering in the park. Over the application, comments/views were sought from the SSP (operations), Intelligence Bureau and the Special Branch.

In reply, the law enforcement agencies reported that due to the prevailing security situation in the capital and on the basis of the past conduct of the political party, permission for holding a public gathering at F-9 Park Islamabad may not be granted, said the officers.

The request was also examined by the District Intelligence Committee (DIC) at a meeting wherein all the members unanimously agreed that this kind of public gathering in the heart of capital territory by any political party should be avoided.

The directions of the Supreme Court in a constitutional petition of 2022 were also perused wherein the apex court had directed that a mechanism may be worked out with political parties as regard to holding of rallies and days and venues.

The Islamabad High Court in 2022 had also observed that political parties were expected to strictly comply with the regulations and restrictions prescribed to maintain public order. The imposition of reasonable restrictions in the context of regulating the right guaranteed under Article 16 of the Constitution was within the exclusive domain of the executive authorities.

“Keeping in view the fundamental right of the applicant and in the light of the directions contained in the Writ Petition No 1026/2024, drawing a balance to overall security risk in the capital the application for holding of public gathering on June 8, 2024 at an open space near Rawat, Islamabad is hereby allowed subject to following terms and conditions,” an order issued by the office of the deputy commissioner Islamabad stated.

“The gathering shall not disturb or disrupt the fundamental rights of citizens of Islamabad and adjoining areas, Right to Freedom of movement (Article 15), Right to Freedom of Trade and Business (Article 18), Right to Education (Article 25-A) hence no roads shall be blocked. The gathering shall start at 4pm and end at 7pm on June 8, 2024 and it will be organisers duty to ensure the dispersal after the close of event.”

No object of lethal or non-lethal force including batons of any size would be wielded by any participant of the gathering nor shall any participant shall indulge in violence or clashes. In case of any such incidence of clashes/violence, the organisers shall be held responsible.

“The permission is for a public gathering, and permission for sit-in is not granted. Organizers are bound to ensure that the participants do not spend the night or subsequent nights there and are dispersed peacefully. The organisers hereby are made responsible for conduct of all participants of the gathering.”

The order said that the organisers shall be responsible for the internal security arrangements of the participants. And the list of the participants shall be shared with the local police in advance.

The organisers shall take responsibility that the participants shall not illegally move beyond the identified boundary of the venue. The organisers shall be responsible for any violation of this and resultant consequences.

The order added: “Anti-state, anti-religious, or anti-ideology of Pakistan slogans or speeches shall not be made, effigy/flag of any political or religious party shall not be burnt, weapons/firearms of any kind shall not be taken at/near the venue of the gathering. The use of decks/speakers shall comply with the provisions of West Pakistan Amplifier Ordinance 1965.”

PTI reacts to dialogue offer from govt

In a statement issued here, the PTI spokesman termed the offer, from those who have ‘no authority or credibility’ to mediate, as ridiculous.

The PTI spokesperson said that those who offered to hold talks were ‘imposed though fake mandate’.

“National criminals do not have the authority to take decisions in the interest of the nation, nor is there room for reconciliation,” it added.

The PTI made it clear that it would not hold talks with ‘mandate thieves’ including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Pakistan People’s Party, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan.

“Instead of propagating talks offer without having authority, this mandate theft group should apologise to the nation and return the mandate to real representatives,” the PTI spokesman added.

Earlier in the day, Minister for Petroleum Division usadik Malik said that there were always doors open in politics and PML-N leadership always called for reconciliation and dialogue.

“Our party [PML-N] leadership always stressed the need for a charter of economy and democracy”, he said while addressing a press conference.

The minister also noted that his party wants to move forward with all political forces.

Malik further said that the PTI-led government put all PML-N leaders, including Khawaja Saad Rafique, Khawaja Asif and Shehbaz Shehbaz, behind bars.

He also lamented PTI’s ‘double standards’ over holding dialogue, saying that they weren’t interested in holding talks with PML-N. “They [PTI] want to talk to United States and Donald Lu,” he alleged.

PBC condemns PTI’s demand of CJP recusal from party’s cases

According to the official statement, the PBC termed the demand as “unfortunate and unacceptable” saying that it was an attempt to pressure the CJP and undermine the independence of the judiciary.

The council emphasized that the CJP is a highly respected and impartial judge, and his integrity is beyond question.

The PBC also highlighted that the CJP has always upheld the rule of law and the supremacy of the Constitution, and any attempts to malign him or the judiciary would be rejected.

The council reiterated its commitment to upholding the principles of an independent judiciary and the rule of law.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demanded Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa rescue himself from benches hearing cases related to party and its founder Imran Khan.

A statement issued after the PTI core committee demanded the recusal of CJP Qazi Faez Isa from cases related to PTI and founder Imran Khan, citing concerns over bias and impartiality.

The PTI alleged that the Chief Justice’s hearing of their cases has a “negative impact” on the fair trial.

The demand came as the Supreme Court is hearing Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) reserved seats case on June 3. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa would head the bench.

It is pertinent to mention here that Imran Khan appeared before Supreme Court bench, led by CJP Isa, in a case pertaining to amendments to National Accountability (NAB) Ordinance 1999.

The Senate witnessed squabbling between the treasury and opposition benches on Friday as the PTI called out PPP Senator Palwasha Khan for chairing the session in the presence of Senate Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan Nasir

Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani presided over the proceedings but went away 40 minutes into the session, upon which Senator Palwasha began chairing the session.

Soon after, PTI Senator Fauzia Arshad said it was regrettable that Palwasha was presiding over the session while the deputy chairman was present. Palwasha replied it was the chairman’s prerogative to make that decision, adding that the deputy chairman arrived after she had already begun chairing the session.

Amidst Senator Arshad’s interruption, Palwasha repeatedly told the opposition benches to decide among themselves who they wanted to speak next.

Continuing with a similar line of criticism as his fellow PTI senator, Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz said: “Don’t make a mockery of the House and don’t damage its sanctity. This is no way that you seat the deputy chairman, who has a role in the chairman’s absence, and you make him a decoration piece.”

The opposition leader and Palwasha had a heated exchange as the latter said the deputy chairman came in after her while Faraz maintained that Nasir was already seated in the Senate.

Palwasha asked the opposition leader to mind his tone to which the senator questioned the way she was speaking to him.

“I am speaking to you the same way you’re speaking to me,” she retorted as she turned to the treasury benches and ordered Rana Mehmoodul Hassan to be given the mic.

As clamouring continued from the opposition benches, Palwashed chastised them, saying: “Fine, continue to create a ruckus. I choose to ignore you.”

She subsequently ordered that PPP Senator Farooq Naek be given the mic to speak, saying: “I do not fall for this hooliganism, and this cannot go on.”

As Naik attempted to speak, Faraz interrupted and said it was “shameful” that the PML-N sent its own chairman out of the House to which Palwasha retorted: “It’s alright, he doesn’t have an issue with this.”

‘No permanent friends or foes in politics’: PTI's Gohar calls for dialogue

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan stated on Wednesday that there are no permanent friends or foes in politics, emphasising the former ruling party's desire for political dialogue.

Ahead of a party meeting at Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, Gohar indicated openness to Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Tehreek Tahaffuz-e- Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) chief leading the negotiation efforts.

"We seek elections free from rigging and a robust judiciary," Gohar said.

The PTI chairman confirmed ongoing discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rahman, head of a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, expressing hope for his support.

Gohar mentioned additional meetings with the JUI-F leader, noting, "Consensus is essential for national stability."

The PTI leader highlighted the party's unique negotiation style, asserting, "Achakzai will act as he sees fit."

Gohar dismissed any prior “guarantees” by PTI founder Imran Khan, saying that the political process will continue.

He concluded by expressing optimism about the role of allies, "If they wish to advance this issue, it would be much better."

A day earlier, PTI decided that a delegation led by PkMAP chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai would negotiate with the government – for the sake of ‘political stability’ in the country, to grab back their ‘stolen’ mandate, and secure the release of the party’s incarcerated activists.

However, the party clarified that the body would only hold talks with the rulers, reiterating its earlier stance of not striking a “deal”.

Speaking outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail after meeting with incarcerated PTI founding chairman Imran Khan, the party’s incumbent chief, Barrister Gohar told the media that he as well as other party leaders had convinced the former premier that initiating a dialogue with the government was necessary and he had given the nod to move ahead with it.

He added that Imran was willing to take the course of forgiveness for what he had endured only so that the country could move ahead.

Gohar said the PTI was repeatedly stressing the need for talks and the “power brokers” should listen to the party now.

PTI leaders, party workers face legal action for protesting outside Adiala Jail

The Rawalpindi police have filed a case against several Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers, including party leader Seemabia Tahir for protesting outside Adiala Jail, where former prime minister and party founder Imran Khan is currently incarcerated, Express News reported.

The case, filed under Section 144 of the Pakistan Penal Code, accuses the protesters of violating the law, resisting police, and damaging police uniforms.

Six PTI workers, including Aqeel Khan, Malik Bader Farhan, Zubair Hussain, Noman Tariq, Naveed Akhtar, and Maqsood Zafar, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Additionally, five other individuals, including Ahmed Hasan and Mubasher Kanju, have been named in the case, along with several others whose identities remain unknown.

PTI has been staging protests across the country, primarily against the alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections. The party has been demanding the restoration of their "stolen mandate" and the immediate release of party leaders, including the founding chairperson and Ex-PM Imran Khan, who has been confined in Adiala Jail since at least May 2023

On March 10, responding to Imran's call, the PTI staged protest demonstrations nationwide against alleged manipulation in general elections

However, in Punjab, where a PML-N-led coalition government recently assumed power, these protests were met with heavy-handed measures, resulting in the detention of scores of PTI workers and leaders, including Sardar Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja.

The Punjab government on Friday imposed Section 144 across the province in light of “the prevailing law and order situation”, thereby banning protests and public gatherings

The imposition of Section 144 across Punjab comes as PTI plans to carry out nationwide protests today demanding the release of incarcerated leader Imran Khan.

According to an order issued by the Home Department, which Dawn.com has seen, Section 144 has been imposed with immediate effect and will be in place for seven days.

The Punjab Police says Section 144 empowers authorities to issue orders in public interest that may place a ban on an activity for a specific period of time.

The order states: “It has been observed that in view of the prevailing law and order situation and security threats, any gathering/ assembly is likely to provide soft targets to terrorists and miscreants, which not only pose serious security threats but is also likely to cause threat to public at peace and order as well as inconvenience to public at large.”

Although a specific reason for imposing the ban was not mentioned, issuing secretary Noor Ul Amin Mengal wrote in the order that “pressing and adequate grounds exist for proceeding under Section 144 […] as an immediate prevention and speedy remedy to ban forthwith certain activities in Punjab”.

Assemblies, gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, demonstrations, jalsas, dharnas, protests and other such activities have been prohibited effective immediately, the order stated.

The imposition of Section 144 across Punjab comes as PTI announced nationwide protests for the release of incarcerated leader Imran Khan.

According to one post on social media platform X, “multiple illegal police raids” were conducted on the houses of PTI leaders in Khanewal.

The party also claimed that the office of PTI leader PP-209 Khanewal Humayun Khan was raided and ransacked by the police.

Speaking in the National Assembly today, Leader of the Opposition Omar Ayub condemned the imposition of Section 144 and asked NA Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah to rule that the ban was a constitutional violation.

PTI-SIC MNA Sanaullah Mastikhel suspended over foul language

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq suspended on Saturday membership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-turned Sunni Ittehad Council (PTI-SIC) member, Sanaullah Mastikhel, for the remainder of the budget session for using foul language on the floor of the house.

The NA speaker while regretting that such inappropriate words have never been used on the microphone while delivering a speech in the assembly said that he was short of words to condemn such indecent language by a fellow lawmaker.

The ruckus started in the lower house of the parliament when the PTI-SIC lawmaker used a bad word – referring to one of male genital parts – against Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, alleging that PTI-SIC lawmakers have reached to the assembly through votes but the others took a different route.

Hearing the profane words, the PTI-SIC lawmakers laughed and started thumping the desks while the members of the treasury benches began protest against the use of vulgar language and demanded Mastikhel’s suspension.

The deputy speaker, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, who was presiding the session during Mastikhel’s speech, expunged the bad word before taking a break. Later on, NA speaker himself came and not only condemned the use of unparliamentary language in the house but read the motion seeking Mastikhel’s suspension for the remainder of the budget session.

The speaker read that during the sitting of the National Assembly held on June 22, Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, MNA, in his budget speech expressed highly objectionable and indecent remarks, thereby eroding and lowering the sanctity of the House.

Sadiq added that the act was in violation of rule 30 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, and disregarded the authority of chair and abusing the rules by willfully disrupting and obstructing the proceedings.

“I, therefore, name him in terms of rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007,” he read, “now, I put the question to the House that Sanaullah Khan Mastikhel, MNA be suspended from the service of the assembly for the remainder of the session.”

The subsequent voting favoured the motion and consequently the motion was adopted. The speaker said that the member shall now forthwith withdraw from the precincts of the Assembly under rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

Reserved seats case: CJP Isa terms PTI’s merger with SIC political ‘suicide’

The Supreme Court resumed on Monday hearing on a petition from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), supported by PTI-backed candidates, challenging the denial of reserved seats in assemblies for women and minorities.

The full court of 13 judges, including Justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Munib Akhtar, Yahya Afridi, Aminuddin Khan, Mandokhail, Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Ayesha Malik, Athar Minallah, Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Shahid Waheed, Irfan Saadat Khan, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan, convened for the live-streamed proceedings on the SC's website and YouTube channel.

Following the February 8 elections, where PTI-backed independent candidates joined SIC after the PTI lost its electoral symbol 'bat' due to a Supreme Court ruling.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a 4-1 verdict ruled in March that SIC could not claim reserved seats due to significant legal flaws and failure to submit a mandatory party list for such seats.

Consequently, the ECP redistributed these seats among other parliamentary parties, benefiting primarily PML-N and PPP with 16 and five additional seats respectively, while JUI-F received four seats. PTI rejected this verdict as unconstitutional.

In the same month, the Peshawar High Court dismissed an SIC plea challenging the ECP's decision to deny them reserved seats.

On May 6, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court suspended the PHC verdict regarding the distribution of reserved seats beyond the originally allocated ones to political parties.

In line with the Supreme Court's directive, the ECP subsequently suspended the victory notifications of 77 lawmakers, resulting in the ruling coalition losing its two-thirds majority in the National Assembly.

At the end of May, a full court was convened to hear the case, with all judges present except Justice Musarrat Hilali.

During the June 3 hearing, Justice Mandokhail noted that the public had voted for PTI-nominated candidates rather than independents in the February 8 elections.

Justice Shah proposed that the controversy could be resolved if the ECP allowed former independent candidates three more days to decide whether to join another political party.

In subsequent hearings, the judges scrutinized the ECP's decisions and the January 13 Supreme Court verdict that deprived PTI of its 'bat' symbol.

Chief Justice Isa defended the January 13 verdict despite criticism from Justice Akhtar, who argued that the PTI lost its symbol due to a chain of errors triggered by the Supreme Court judgment.

The lawyers representing SIC and beneficiary parties like PPP and PML-N were granted two full days to conclude their arguments starting from the current hearing.

On Saturday, the ECP justified its decision to deny reserved seats to SIC for women and non-Muslims through a statement submitted by Senior Counsel Sikandar Bashir Mohmand to the Supreme Court.

PTI gets approval for rally in Islamabad on July 6

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has received approval from the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) to hold a rally on July 6 at Tarnol.

The confirmation followed a court order directing the administration to resolve the matter.

Amir Mughal, President of PTI Islamabad, met with the DC and discussed potential locations for the event.

Mughal stated, "We proposed four locations, and the DC agreed on Tarnol. He assured us that the NOC will be issued today."

The PTI aims to gather a large number of supporters to showcase their strength and solidarity in the capital region.

Membership of 11 oppositions MPAs suspended over ‘ruckus’

According to a notification, the suspended MPAs include Zulfiqar Ali, Shabbaz Ahmed, Muhammad Arif, Tayab Ahmed, Hafiz Farhat, Sheikh Imdad, Tayab Rashid, Ejaz Shafi, Rana Umar Zaib, Shoaib Amir, Usama Asghar Ali, and Asad Abbas.

The move comes after the opposition protested during the CM Maryam Nawaz’s speech on the floor of Punjab Assembly, leading to a heated exchange between the two sides.

PA Speaker Malik Ahmad Khan also revoked the official vehicles and staff allocated to the opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan – a move which he claimed was the first in the parliamentary history of Pakistan.

Moreover, the speaker also barred entry of Deputy Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Moeen Riaz Qureshi. The orders were broadcasted to security officials by wireless.

Speaking on the PA floor, CM Maryam Nawaz said that the extensive work accomplished by the provincial government in its first 100 days cannot be encapsulated in a single speech.

The CM assured that the opposition would be defeated through the government’s performance.

She highlighted that this budget has introduced zero new taxes on the people of Punjab, continuing, “No new taxes have been introduced.”

Despite the opposition’s noise, she argued, it is because they have nothing substantial to say. “We will defeat the opposition with our performance.”

PTI turmoil escalates as Imran Khan seeks action against members creating factions

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) incarcerated founder Imran Khan has taken notice of reports regarding internal strife and a forward bloc within the party, demanding the names of the involved members.

The speculations about the forward bloc stem from reports that attribute to sources saying that almost two dozen of these lawmakers hinted at forming a forward bloc due to the leadership’s failure to secure the release of Imran Khan from jail.

According to Express News, persistent reports of groupings within PTI have prompted the PTI supremo to request the names of members involved in factionalism and forward blocs.

Sources indicate that Imran has directed party leadership to present the names of those involved in the Senate and National Assembly (NA) forward blocs in the upcoming meeting.

The former premier has also emphasised strict adherence to party discipline, instructing that action be taken against those repeatedly violating party rules.

Resignations rolling in

PTI has seen a wave of resignation pouring in recently after rumours of forward blocs and internal strifes became apparent.

Amid escalating conflicts within PTI, lawmaker Junaid Akbar resigned from the party's core committee on Saturday.

His resignation follows that of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, who stepped down as PTI secretary general, indicating further changes in the party’s organisational structure.

Sher Afzal Marwat demanded the resignation of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, accusing him of preventing access to imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan.

Confusion prevails within PTI ranks over Omar’s resignation amid reports of rifts in PTI. On one hand, the party announced that it would take out rallies for the release of the party supremo while, on the other hand, the secretary general left the key party position so that he could focus on parliamentary affairs.

In its meeting held on June 28 at Parliament House, “the Parliamentary Party unanimously expresses complete confidence in Omar Ayub Khan as Secretary General of PTI.”

An official statement said that the “Parliamentary Party unanimously resolves that his resignation may not be accepted and he may be directed to continue as Secretary General of the party.”

In addition, it maintained, “Parliamentary party strongly condemns media reports about a so-called “Forward Bloc” and marks that there is no “Forward Bloc” within the parliamentary party or the party, and all are united under the leadership of the Founding and Chairman for life, Imran Khan.”

Late on Thursday night, Omar resigned from his position to focus on his role as opposition leader. In a post shared on X, formerly Twitter, Omar stated: “I am most grateful to PM Imran Khan sahib for accepting my resignation as Secretary General PTI to focus on my role as Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan.”

Omar’s resignation came amid reports of rifts within the PTI, with sources indicating that several PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers were considering resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership.

Suspension of 11 opposition members sparks uproar in Punjab Assembly

Opposition members of the Punjab Assembly staged a protest on Saturday at the assembly gates, raising loud slogans in response to the suspension of 11 of their members.

Security personnel barred the suspended members from entering the assembly premises during the session.

Yesterday, speaker Malik Ahmed Khan suspended the membership of 11 Punjab Assembly members belonging to the Sunni Ittehad Council during the budget session of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz's government, resulting in uproar, disorder, use of offensive language, and disruption within the assembly.

Speaking to the media, opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar criticized the suspension of their 11 members as unconstitutional, alleging Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan's bias towards the ruling party, which led to the suspension of not just 11 but 107 members.

Meanwhile, members of the Sunni Ittehad Council announced they would convene their own session at the central gate of the Punjab Assembly, with 108 opposition members in attendance.

Waqas Mann presided over this alternative session, fulfilling the role of the Speaker.

On May 9, opposition leader Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar tabled a resolution to establish a judicial commission in response to the events, describing them as one of the most contentious incidents in the country's history and calling for accountability.

The Speaker announced its approval following a vote.

During the session, a majority vote went against Speaker Malik Ahmed Khan's decision to suspend the 11 members, prompting opposition member Muhammad Na'im to initiate a motion of no-confidence against the Speaker.

PTI goes against Imran’s decision

The parliamentary party of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) expressed on Friday disagreement over PTI’s founding chairman Imran Khan’s decision to accept the resignation of PTI’s secretary general Omar Ayub Khan, urging him to take a U-turn on his decision and reappoint Omar on the post.

The party’s parliamentary faction’s demand has come within 24 hours after the incarcerated PTI founding chairman endorsed the decision of Omar, who is also the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, to step down from his party position.

In a letter addressed to Imran, Omar expressed gratitude for accepting his resignation. “I sent my resignation to the PTI founder and Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali on 22nd June,” Ayub stated. It was reported that Senator Shibli Faraz, the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, delivered Omar’s message to Imran during a meeting at Adiala Jail on June 27.

Omar’s resignation came amid reports of rifts within the PTI, with sources indicating that several PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers were considering resigning from the National Assembly in protest against the party’s top leadership.

The speculations about the forward bloc stem from reports that attribute to sources saying that almost two dozen of these lawmakers hinted at forming a forward bloc due to the leadership’s failure to secure the release of Imran Khan from jail.

PTI leadership questioned over Imran’s fate

Addressing the recent turmoil in a video posted on his official Facebook page, Chaudhry expressed discontent over the party’s political strategy and its implications for its members.

He highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by imprisoned leaders, including Imran Khan, despite recent statements from PTI leaders suggesting a turnaround in the party’s fortunes.

Criticism from PTI leadership regarding the loyalty of those who departed after the May 9 incidents, where violent protests erupted following Imran Khan’s arrest, prompted a response from Chaudhry.

He underscored the continuing difficulties faced by PTI figures like Yasmin Rashid and Ejaz Chaudhry who remain incarcerated.

Furthermore, he questioned the efficacy of the current PTI leadership, particularly under Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, for their perceived lack of substantive action beyond commentary on legal verdicts affecting jailed PTI members.

The former federal minister advocated for a leadership change within PTI, suggesting figures like Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervaiz Elahi, and Asad Qaiser as potential replacements.

He urged the party leadership to abandon what he termed as unrealistic expectations regarding the imminent release of Imran Khan through legal battles.

The timing of Chaudhry’s remarks coincided with reports of internal fragmentation within PTI, with 21 lawmakers allegedly exploring the formation of a forward bloc due to dissatisfaction with the current leadership’s inability to secure Imran Khan’s release.

Earlier, resignations from key PTI positions, including that of Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan, further underscored the growing discontent within the party’s ranks.

Chaudhry’s stance on these issues has not been well-received by PTI leadership, as evidenced by statements from Information Secretary Raoof Hasan.

At least 140 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been acquitted in a case related to holding a rally before the general elections.

The case was heard by Judicial Magistrate Salman Nadir, who issued a two-page written verdict, clearing all the accused of the charges.

The court order detailed that a case had been registered against PTI leader Irfan Saleem, other known individuals, and 130 unidentified persons. The incident in question occurred on January 1, 2024, when PTI workers organized a rally on Ring Road, leading to a case being filed by the local police station’s SHO.

The court found that the accused were neither arrested at the scene nor was any incriminating material recovered from them. Furthermore, there were no complaints from local residents regarding road blockades.

The records also indicated that there was no arson or vandalism during the protest, highlighting that the demonstration was peaceful and within the constitutional rights of the participants.

In his verdict, Magistrate Salman stated that the acquittal was based on the lack of evidence against the accused. The court emphasized that peaceful protest is a constitutional right and, in the absence of any substantial evidence of wrongdoing, the charges could not be upheld.

No forward bloc in PTI, says Barrister Gohar

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar says there is no forward bloc in the party.

Gohar clarified that there is only PTI founder Imran Khan's bloc.

Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar said that everyone has a difference of opinion. They are taking things forward with the advice of the party founder. The decision of those who left the party and want to return rests with the founder.

He further stated that he was disappointed with some of the decisions of the judiciary. Responding to a query, he said that he had a good time with Fawad Chaudhry.

Imran dispels rumours of PTI ‘forward bloc’

Former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday dispelled the impression of any forward bloc in the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and asserted that a decision regarding the PTI deserters was yet to be taken.

After the trial proceeding in £190 million corruption reference in which the court granted post-arrest bail to his wife, Bushra Bibi, Mr Khan said there was “no major differences” among the party leaders. But he admitted a division among some party leaders and said he would talk to them during their routine visit to Adiala jail on July 4.

Referring to the US Congress resolution on Pakistani election, he said national and international media had raised question on the transparency of Feb 8 elections. He criticised the government for rebutting the resolution and said it was high time for introspection. He said the resolution could not be termed US “interference” as it questioned election transparency unlike the cipher that “threatened” the elected regime. He added that he still stood by his words about Donald Lu’s interference in Pakistan’s domestic affairs.

He also criticised the government for burdening people with taxes and price hike, instead of cutting its own expenses in the financial budget. He warned that the budget would boost inflation.

This was the time to bring the country out of the crises, he said, suggesting fair and transparent fresh election as the only solution. He said a government elected with the mandate of public could bring the reforms to revive the economy as well as to end the miseries of common man.

Mr Khan complained that while former premier Nawaz Sharif had been allowed to hold meetings with scores of party leaders in jail, he was denied even a plain paper. He also accused the intelligence officials of managing the jail administration.

The former PM has already filed a petition before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking judicial intervention in the affairs of Rawalpindi Central Jail, alleging that the prison was being managed by the officials of the spy agency. In the petition filed through his counsel Shoaib Shaheen, Mr Khan claimed that the prison was virtually controlled by some major and colonel of ISI.

Bail granted to Bushra Bibi

Earlier, Judge Mohammad Ali Warraich of the accountability court granted post-arrest bail to Mr Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi in £190m corruption case.

During the hearing, deputy prosecutor general of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sardar Muzaffar Khan Abbasi informed the judge that the NAB chairman had never issued the warrants of arrest for Bushra Bibi in this case. Subsequently, the court granted her bail. But she was not released due to her conviction in Iddat case.

During the trial proceeding, the judge concluded the cross-examination of three more witnesses. In all, 27 witnesses have been cross-examined in the case so far.

NAB special prosecutor Amjad Pervaiz while concluding the arguments on Mr Khan’s bail plea in the case informed the Islamabad High Court that the trial of the ex-premier and his spouse was about to conclude.

He said that about 10 to 15 witnesses out of 59 prosecution witnesses would be dropped.

The gist of allegations against Mr Khan, as made out from the reference, is that as the then prime minister, on a note of Mirza Shahzad Akbar, the then chairman of the Assets Recovery Unit (ARU), placed the matter before the federal cabinet on Dec 3, 2019, and got approval with respect to execution of the deed of confidentiality qua the legal framework agreement between the National Crime Agency, the United Kingdom (NCA, the UK) and family of Malik Riaz for repatriation of the sum of £190m into the Supreme Court accounts, established for the purposes of payment of liability of the Bahria Town (Pvt) Limited for land allotted to it in Malir.

Fawad Chaudhry says PTI leaders urging him not to criticise leadership

Fawad Chaudhry said on Wednesday that senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have reached out, requesting leniency, according to Express News.

During a conversation with journalists in the federal capital, Chaudhry verified that Asad Qaiser and Ali Amin Gandapur contacted him, requesting a softer approach towards the party leadership.

He stated that under the current circumstances, the PTI founder cannot come out in the next thirteen months. He added that upon his release from jail, his first conversation was with Asad Qaiser, recommending him to reach out to Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Chaudhry highlighted that PTI’s current strategy involves approaching the court through lawyers and fighting legally, which he believes will never allow the founder to be freed.

He stated that the current leadership should have protested on February 9, criticising Shibli Faraz for suggesting to raise the issue in Parliament instead.

Chaudhry questioned how they could fight in Parliament when they were not even allowed entry. He described protests as ineffective, citing examples of minimal participation.

The former party member asserted that Fazlur Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami, PTI, and GDA need to unite. He detailed his comprehensive meeting with Hafiz Naeem, noting that all opposition parties want to unite.

He suggested offering JUI the positions of Speaker in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee while GDA should be given representation in Sindh.

The former minister noted that the current PTI leadership lacks political understanding, hence the absence of a political team. He warned that if the PTI founder loses this battle, the country will suffer greatly as he is fighting for its future.

Chaudhry remarked that those meeting the PTI founder are not in a position to provide any information. He acknowledged Faraz as a good friend but critiqued his political acumen. His interactions, he said, were mainly with political figures like Ali Amin Gandapur.

The former minister advised PTI to hold protest camps in the Senate and National Assembly instead of organising rallies, arguing that public demonstrations would result in the arrests and suffering of poor workers. He recalled how Benazir Bhutto had managed to challenge the government with just 17 people.

Chaudhry criticised the current leadership’s treatment of Sheikh Rasheed and the misinformation given to the PTI founder about him.

Reflecting on past sacrifices, he noted that during difficult times, individuals like Faraz and Rauf Hassan stayed home. He pointed out that Barrister Gohar Sharif has no role in politics despite being a human rights lawyer.

He further asserted that the army is a national institution that they would never fight against or weaken, questioning how others could suggest negotiating with the government and establishment.

Chaudhry concluded that the current government has no regard for the constitution and law, stating that politically and morally, the government has already lost. He remarked that the PTI founder won the February 8 election, while the current government lost.

Had they had any moral justification, the defeated individuals wouldn’t have formed a government, he added. The former minister declared that they couldn’t resort to violence and would not forcibly take over the government.

According to sources, senior PTI leaders reached out to Chaudhry, urging him not to criticise the current party leadership. It was further revealed that both Chaudhry and the PTI leadership agreed on the necessity for opposition parties to unite under the present circumstances.

Additionally, PTI leadership assured him that his suggestions would be given due consideration.

PTI has seen a wave of resignations pouring in recently after rumours of forward blocs and internal strifes became apparent. Amid escalating conflicts within the party, lawmaker Junaid Akbar resigned from the party's core committee on Saturday.

His resignation follows that of Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, who stepped down as PTI secretary general, indicating further changes in the party’s organisational structure.

Sher Afzal Marwat demanded the resignation of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz, accusing him of preventing access to Imran Khan.

PTI has been clobbered into submission. There is no escape for Pakistan unfortunately. Last year May was the chance for truly revolutionary change. But its gone now. As long as Military has commercial properties and companies, Pakistan can never get out.

PTI nominates candidate for PAC chairman

The PTI-backed opposition nominated their candidate for the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), ARY News reported on Thursday, citing sources.

Following the nomination of Sheikh Waqas Akram as PAC chairman, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decided to consult allies regarding the nomination.

Sources claimed that the federal government is all prepared to appoint an opposition leader as PAC chairman.

Meanwhile, sources within the government stated that if the nomination is proposed outside the opposition leader then a four-member panel should be nominated by the opposition.

Earlier to this, the federal government contacted the PTI-backed opposition in the National Assembly (NA) for the appointment of a new Chairman of the PAC.

Sources told ARY News that Chief Whip Tariq Fazal has written a letter to the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, seeking four names for the position of PAC Chairman.

The letter stated that the government wants senior and experienced individuals to be considered for the position and that the selection will be made through mutual consensus.

A copy of the letter has also been sent to PTI Chief Whip, Amir Dogar.

PTI leader Omar Ayub's house raided in Islamabad

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub Khan's house has been raided by the police of Mianwali in collaboration with Islamabad police

The raid was conducted on Sunday in Islamabad, however, it did not result in an arrest of the PTI leader as he was not present at his residence.

The police targeted Omar Ayub's F-10 residence in Islamabad as part of an ongoing investigation.

Ayub is wanted in connection with an anti-terrorism case, an anti-terrorism court in Sargodha has issued warrants for his arrest.

The police continue their search for the opposition leader, who is sought for his alleged involvement in activities classified under anti-terrorism laws.

Ayub confirmed the raid, stating, "Islamabad and Mianwali police have raided my house. The ATC Sargodha has issued bailable arrest warrants against me."

"The federal and provincial government agencies, under the guise of Form 47 production, are attempting to arrest the opposition leader," he further alleged.

"Let me make it clear, our struggle will continue until the founder of PTI becomes the Prime Minister," added Ayub.

Last month, the PTI parliamentary faction disagreed with Imran Khan’s initial decision to accept Ayub’s resignation, urging a reversal and reappointment of Ayub to his position.

This demand came within 24 hours of the imprisoned PTI founder endorsing Ayub’s decision to step down, a move that also saw Ayub leading the opposition in the National Assembly.

Amid reports of internal rifts and confusion within PTI, Ayub’s resignation added to the uncertainty. While the party planned rallies for Imran Khan’s release, Ayub’s departure from his key party role was intended to allow him to focus on parliamentary affairs.

PTI's Shaukat Yousafzai barred from boarding UK-bound flight at Islamabad Airport

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shaukat Ali Yousafzai was barred from flying to the United Kingdom from Islamabad Airport on Monday.

The former provincial minister and prominent PTI member was once again stopped while attempting to board a flight.

Yousafzai was trying to board a Turkish Airlines flight to Manchester via Turkey today.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed Yousafzai that he was prohibited from international travel, his name was on the Exit Control List (ECL), and there was an arrest order against him.

Subsequently, the former MPA was offloaded and sent back.

Despite being issued a boarding pass by Turkish Airlines, Yousafzai's travel plans to visit his daughter in Manchester were thwarted.

In January, an FIR was lodged against him at Karora Police Station in Shangla to stop him from performing Umrah.

Although he was later granted bail by the court, the federal government has not removed his name from the ECL yet. Consequently, Yousafzai was detained at Islamabad Airport for over ninety minutes before being offloaded and sent back.

Earlier on 28 June, former chief minister of Punjab and PTI President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking the removal of his name from the ECL.

Elahi argued in his petition that he wished to travel abroad to perform Umrah. He claimed that the federal government unlawfully placed his name on the ECL.

On June 3, Journalist and YouTuber Imran Riaz was reportedly stopped from boarding a flight to depart for Hajj pilgrimage at the Islamabad Airport.

Imran moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) last year seeking the removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) and Passport Control List (PCL) saying his name was added arbitrarily and randomly “relying upon presumptive considerations”.

Fazlur Rehman asks PTI to ‘quit assemblies’

According to inside story of the meetings between Fazlur Rehman and PTI leaders, the JUI-F chief advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to come out of assemblies and join the street movement for solution of problems, the sources said.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), rejecting the advise of Fazlur Rehman said the party already made a mistake by coming out of assemblies in the past.

A decisive meeting on forging alliance between the JUI-F and PTI is likely to be held next week, the sources said.

Earlier on May 2, Maulana Fazlur Rehman once again rejected the results of the general elections and demanded fresh polls, citing ‘widespread rigging and irregularities’.

Addressing a public gathering in Karachi, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that said that assemblies were ‘sold’. “Sindh Assembly and President House were also sold,” he added.

The JUI-F chief demanded for immediate re-elections to ensure the integrity of the democratic process.

“The recent elections were fake, and its results are unacceptable,” he added. The JUI-chief demanded fresh elections to ensure that the people’s voice is heard and their mandate is respected.

PTI demands hearing from Supreme Court for recovery of detained members

Leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have called for a hearing from the Supreme Court to seek the recovery of their detained members, stating that their National Assembly members and other leaders have been unlawfully detained.

Addressing a press conference alongside other party leaders in Islamabad on Sunday, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan emphasised PTI's resilience as one of the strongest political parties.

They expressed respect for decisions of the Supreme Court and the independent judiciary, noting that they have been directed to collect sworn statements from departing 41 members, who will then become PTI members.

"We have already collected sworn statements from 25 individuals," Barrister Gohar stated. "Following the Supreme Court's directives, our National Assembly member Aamir Sultan has been detained. Our colleagues Rizwan and National Assembly member Fiaz Chaudhry's brother have also been detained, with violence inflicted on their 16-year-old son witnessed by his mother," he added.

Khan further highlighted, "The Supreme Court has mandated that no one should be detained illegally. We request the Supreme Court to hear our petition and release those who were detained."

He criticised the re-arrest of Sanam Javed immediately after her release after 14 months of imprisonment, condemning the repeated arrests of individuals post-release.

The PTI leaders voiced strong objections to these actions and urged for judicial relief for their detained members, citing concerns over the rule of law and human rights violations.

PAC chairman: Govt to again seek names from PTI

The government had previously asked PTI to suggest four names, but the party only nominated Sheikh Waqas Akram for the position.

The government is insisting the Imran Khan-founded party to send a panel of four names for the post of PAC chairman.

Earlier, it was reported that Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) had replaced Sher Afzal Khan Marwat with Sheikh Waqas Akram for Chairmanship of the National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

SIC chief Hamid Raza formally apprised the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat about the party’s nominee for the slot. “Sheikh Waqas Akram has been nominated for the chairmanship of the PAC,” Hamid Raza told the NA secretariat.

It is pertinent to mention here that the slot became a bone of contention and triggered a tug-of-war between senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members as Sher Afzal Marwat, who was earlier named by the party, openly critisised the party leadership.

Later on July 12, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) suspended the membership of Sher Afzal Marwat on directives of party founder Imran Khan.

Sources said the PTI leaders met incarcerated party founder Imran Khan on Thursday where the decision regarding Marwat was taken. The party leaders claimed that Sher Afzal Marwat was constantly violating the party discipline and over the past month.

PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan was arrested by the Islamabad police on Monday as the interior ministry accused the party of peddling “anti-state propaganda”

PTI founder Imran Khan’s lawyer Ali Ijaz Buttar earlier claimed that PTI’s Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Hasan were “arrested by the Islamabad police from the party’s office”.

“I just received a call from the party’s office informing that 300 to 400 policemen arrived at the [party’s] office and arrested PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Information Secretary Raoof Hasan,” Buttar wrote on the X platform.

The party also condemned the move through its official X account and lambasted the Islamabad police. “It’s absolutely shameful how Islamabad Police continues to completely mock and disregard every law in this country,” the party said while resharing Buttar’s post. “Law of the jungle is reigning over Pakistan!”

The party also shared footage on the X platform, showing several police vehicles and a few police personnel outside the party’s central secretariat.

A statement from the interior ministry issued later confirmed Hasan’s arrest.

Referring to the Saturday arrest of PTI’s international media coordinator Ahmed Waqas Janjua, the ministry said that the Islamabad police and Federal Investigation Agency conducted a raid on the PTI’s digital media wing in light of the preliminary investigation and digital content.

“Raoof Hasan was arrested during the raid. PTI is involved in anti-state propaganda,” the ministry statement said, adding that a joint investigation team was being constituted.

The statement was issued shortly after a press conference by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif who said “digital terrorists” were using tools such as cell phones, computers, falsehood, and propaganda to impose their will on society just like regular terrorists do.

The DG ISPR questioned the lack of action against such individuals despite their activities against the leadership of the state and other institutions. “Instead of the courts and regulations moving forward against them, they’re given further space and they’re made heroes in the name of freedom of expression,” he said.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference later with Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub and former NA speaker Asad Qaiser, Barrister Gohar said the PTI’s central secretariat was raided before 12pm today, all CCTV footage was collected and Hasan was arrested.

He said the party’s lawmakers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab were supposed to submit their affidavits today and those of the latter were present in the office. Gohar said “our entire record” was seized, including various documents on intra-party elections, and 10 party workers were missing.

Gohar said he was concerned about Hasan’s health and thus had left with him. “I sat with him and we were taken to the police station at Islamabad police lines where I was told: ‘There is no case against you, you’re not wanted in any case and you can’t remain here but Hasan will remain here.’”

He alleged that ever since the Supreme Court’s reserved seats case verdict, only one party was being targeted with its lawmakers and their associates being abducted.

Gohar said the party would bring all action into play for Hasan and expressed hope that he would be discharged if presented in court tomorrow.

DG ISPR’s presser indictment against govt: Omar Ayub
Meanwhile, the NA opposition leader said: “The raid was the excuse. The target was the affidavits.”

He alleged that the government and agencies could not “digest” the Supreme Court’s verdict in the reserved seats case.

PTI-led opposition alliance announces country-wide protest

Speaking to media persons after a meeting of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayen—an opposition alliance led by the PTI— former Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said that they would be holding ‘peaceful’ protest demonstrations across the country on Friday.

He said that they are protesting for the three prime demands including the end of sky-rocketed inflation, the establishment of peace, and the release of the PTI founder and all other political prisoners who have been behind the bars in ‘fabricated’ cases.

“The incumbent federal government enjoys a fake mandate,” Asad Qaiser added

Speaking on the occasion, Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai claimed that Imran Khan is the ‘most popular’ leader in Pakistan at present.

The PkMAP chief vowed to struggle for the release of all political prisoners, including the PTI founder.

“The entire nation is requested to participate in the protests for the great cause,” Mahmood Khan Achakzai added. The PkMAP chief said that they are ready to take every step to take Pakistan out of crises.

Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Chiarman Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that the government is mulling to impose Article 6 against the PTI founder. “Imran Khan has the support of 99 percent of Pakistanis and Article 6 is being imposed on the entire nation,” the MWM chairman said.

Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said that those who have consistently failed in the past are being given another chance to govern.

ECP notifies 39 MNAs as PTI members following Supreme Court order

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday officially recognised 39 members of the National Assembly as part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The commission has uploaded the notification on its website, according to a spokesperson.

"In pursuance of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, dated July 12 2024, the following returned candidates against general seats of the National Assembly are declared to have been returned as candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)," the notification read.

After the apex court ruled the decision in favour of PTI, the electoral watchdog in a press release confirmed its commitment to comply with the court's directive but instructed its legal team to identify any implementation obstacles promptly.

The commission stated, "The ECP will continue to perform its duties in accordance with the constitution and the law, without yielding to any pressure."

The apex court's majority verdict overturned the Peshawar High Court judgment dated March 25 and also declared the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order dated March 1 unconstitutional, lacking lawful authority and having no legal effect.

The apex court declared that the denial of an election symbol does not affect the constitutional and legal rights of a political party in any manner to participate in an election and to field candidates whereas the ECP is under a constitutional duty to act, construe and apply all statutory provisions accordingly.

Section 144 enforced in Punjab, Islamabad to curb PTI protests

The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province and in Islamabad, banning public gatherings and rallies for three days, Express News reported on Thursday.

According to the notification issued on Wednesday, Section 144 will be in effect from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, July 28.

The measure aims to maintain law and order and prevent any potential terrorist threats.

The notification stated that the administration will ensure the implementation of the order across Punjab and Islamabad.

The imposition of Section 144 prohibits gatherings of five or more people, and any violation of the order can lead to legal action.

This move comes ahead of a country-wide protest announced by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led opposition alliance for Friday.

The protests demand the release of ‘innocent’ prisoners, including PTI chairman Imran Khan.

Former speaker of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, speaking after a meeting of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ayen (TTAP) — an opposition alliance led by the PTI — said they would be holding ‘peaceful’ demonstrations across the country on Friday.

"We are protesting for three prime demands: the end of skyrocketing inflation, the establishment of peace, and the release of the PTI founder and all other political prisoners held in ‘fabricated’ cases," Qaiser stated.

He added, “The incumbent federal government enjoys a fake mandate.”

PTI leaders' independent candidacy reveals new crisis for party leadership

A new controversy has erupted within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as senior leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub Khan's independent candidacy for the National Assembly has come to light, placing the party leadership in a difficult position.

Following the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) recognition of 39 PTI-affiliated National Assembly members, a list of those who contested elections as independent candidates has been revealed.

It has been disclosed that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub submitted their nomination papers as independent candidates for the elections held on February 8 this year. The current PTI leadership also did not declare party affiliation in the nomination papers submitted to the election commission.

Recently, the Supreme Court allowed members who won elections as independents and joined the Sunni Ittehad Council in the National Assembly time to join PTI.

Barrister Gohar and Omar Ayub preferred to remain independent rather than join the Sunni Ittehad Council in the National Assembly. The central leadership, who joined the Sunni Ittehad Council, also did not declare party affiliation in their nomination papers.

Other National Assembly members who did not declare PTI affiliation in their nomination papers include Ali Muhammad Khan, Shehryar Afridi, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Hammad Azhar’s father Mian Azhar, Jamshed Dasti, and Riaz Fatyana.

Notable figures from PTI who did not declare their affiliation include Sunni Ittehad Council's leader Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Atif Khan, and Sanaullah Masti Khel.

Ali Asghar Khan, Mubarak Zeb, Muhammad Aslam Ghumman, Usman Ali, Zahoor Ahmed, and Aurangzeb Kuchi are also among those holding independent status in the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, the ECP has approached the Supreme Court for clarification, writing a letter to registrar regarding the submission of party affiliation certificates by 41 PTI MNAs.

Earlier in the day, the ECP officially recognised 39 members of the National Assembly as part of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

The commission uploaded the notification on its website, according to a spokesperson.

"In pursuance of the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, dated July 12 2024, the following returned candidates against general seats of the National Assembly are declared to have been returned as candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)," the notification read.

IHC reserves verdict on PTI’s petition to seek permission to protest in Islamabad

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved its decision on Friday regarding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition for permission to hold a protest in the federal capital.

On Monday, PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan called on everyone to "fully participate" in the peaceful protest across the country.

He stated the party's three demands would be the immediate release of incarcerated PTI leaders and supporters, maintaining peace in the country, and protesting against growing inflation.

Justice Saman Rifat presided over the hearing of the petition submitted by PTI leader Amir Mughal. The party's request for a protest on 26 July had been denied by the Islamabad administration.

The state counsel informed the court that the federal capital's administration had refused all political parties' requests for rallies, highlighting the tense security situation.

Justice Saman inquired about the permission for the PTI protest, suggesting that it be allowed on Monday. She questioned whether the district administration had granted permission to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for their protest.

AG Shaukat responded that permission was not granted to JI either and, given the imposition of Section 144 in Islamabad, they could not grant permission to PTI. He added that due to the JI protest, the entire city was effectively closed.

Justice Imtiaz further questioned the relevance of the JI sit-in to the PTI protest and why PTI could not receive permission. She noted that the F-9 area does not fall under Section 144, to which AG Shaukat replied that Section 144 had been imposed across the whole of Islamabad.

Justice Suman remarked, "You might as well declare that you never want to allow PTI to protest"

Advocate General Shaukat reiterated that permission had not been granted, mentioning previous instances such as the TLP sitting during Ashura.

Further addressing the uncertainty, AG responded, "We do not know what the situation will be on Monday."

After arguments from both sides, the court reserved its decision.

IHC disposes of PTI plea seeking permission for protest in Islamabad

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has disposed of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) petition seeking permission for holding a protest rally in the federal capital on Friday (today), stating that staging demonstration today “is no longer practically possible”.

IHC Justice Saman Rifat earlier today reserved its verdict on the PTI petition seeking permission for a protest in Islamabad as the capital authorities have banned gathering in the federal capital under Section 144.

The IHC announced the reserved verdict later in the day, stating that since holding the protest today is no longer practically possible the PTI’s petition “may be treated as a fresh application”.

As per the IHC, the fresh petition seeks to hold a protest on Monday (July 29) “in the F-9 Park (or any other viable venue at a time to be mutually decided by the parties) which shall be decided by way of a speaking order strictly in accordance with the law and keeping in view the observations made herein”.

The ruling party had given the call of a protest to press for the release of its incarcerated founder Imran Khan and other detained party leaders, but it lated called it off till Monday following the reservation of verdict.

During the hearing in IHC, the state counsel informed the court that the federal capital's administration had declined requests of all political parties to hold protest rallies, in view of the security situation.

Advocate General Islamabad Ayaz Shaukat said that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced holding a sit-in at D-Chowk, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) has called a protest rally, and the PTI is also asking permission for a protest at Press Club.

"However, no one was given the permission. Islamabad has been shut down," he said.

Presenting his arguments, the petitioner's counsel, Advocate Shoaib Shaheen, asked the court to grant his party permission to hold their protest at the F-9 Park.

The lawyer said that when the IHC had asked the administration to give permission to the PTI to hold a rally on Monday, the advocate general had said that they could not issue a permit if JI's sit-in was prolonged.

Following the arguments, Justice Riffat told the advocate general that he shouldn't present himself as "helpless" as he was representing the government.

"We have so many neighbours, who are our enemies. What impression [will your statements] give to them?" she asked.

In response, Shaukat said the government would deal with enemies. "It is tough to deal with your people."

The judge then told the advocate general that either he should give permission to the PTI or she would write in the order that the government was helpless as it could not control the situation.

Sticking to his stance, the advocate general said the court could order whatever it wanted, but the administration could not allow the protest to be staged.

PTI files complaint against election commission with SJC

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday instituted a complaint before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) seeking a thorough inquiry by accusing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sultan Sikandar Raja and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of becoming incapable of performing their constitutional duties and thus guilty of misconduct.

The complaint was jointly filed by the PTI and its secretary general Omar Ayub Khan, highlighting that the constitutional obligation demands the ECP to act independently without taking sides in favour of or against any political party. Other members of the commission named in the complaint are Babar Hassan Bharwana, Nisar Ahmed Durrani, Shah Muhammad Jatoi, and retired Justice Ikramullah Khan.

The ECP, under its constitutional obligation, cannot restrict or stop any political party from functioning and carrying out political activities, nor can it shut its eyes if any acts and violations are taking place due to which elections are not being conducted honestly, justly, fairly, and in accordance with the law, the complaint said.

The complaint emphasised that the ECP, through different decisions, actions, and omissions, acted contrary to the constitution, their oath, and disobeyed the orders of the Supreme Court, and sabotaged the functioning of PTI as a political party, the complaint alleged.

It claimed that the ECP blatantly disregarded any form of neutrality and even violated the fundamental rights of the people of Pakistan.

“Thus, the CEC and members of the commission are liable to be removed for misconduct in the interest of justice,” it added.

The complaint alleged that the ECP violated and breached its constitutional duties, obligations, and responsibilities; therefore, the CEC and other members must be replaced due to serious allegations of misconduct, including pre-poll, poll day, and post-poll riggings as detailed below.

The complainants seek accountability for the unconstitutional actions of the ECP, the complaint emphasised. It alleged that the ECP executed a grand scheme to disqualify former premier Imran Khan, and removed him as PTI chairman, thereby disabling him from participating in politics and damaging PTI as a political party, and then to “disqualify” PTI altogether from contesting the elections.

The first step that was taken by the ECP, which is contrary to the constitution and law, and violated its constitutional duty and obligation under Article 218 of the constitution, was to de-seat former prime minister Imran Khan from the National Assembly seat (Mianwali). This was done by the ECP at the behest of the Speaker National Assembly, who belonged to PML-N, the complaint alleged.

The complaint alleged that the ECP became a prosecutor by filing a criminal complaint before the Special Judge and obtained a conviction against Imran Khan on August 28, 2023, in the Toshakhana case, in which the sentence has been suspended, and later disqualified him. With the same mala fide intention, the complaint alleged, the ECP took up the prohibited funding case and conducted a manipulated investigation against PTI, which was still continuing.

On the other hand, no other political party was investigated for similar allegations despite the directions of the Supreme Court. To date, the investigations of other political parties are pending, as the ECP has thus ignored the directions of the Supreme Court and refused to conduct an inquiry into the finances of political parties other than PTI, the complaint said, adding that this reflects complete bias of the ECP against PTI.

‘‘Continuing with the alleged intention of harming and damaging PTI through illegal orders, the ECP decided that the reserved seats for women and minorities would not be given to PTI but allocated to other political parties proportionately. The reason given was that the reserved seats’ list given by PTI had been exhausted, and PTI could not add to this list. This too was an act contrary to the expressed provisions of the Constitution designed only to harm PTI,’’ the complaint alleged.

It further alleged the ECP decided that no PTI candidate would be recognised as a PTI candidate and instead would be treated as “independents” who would be allocated different symbols.

The idea of the ECP was to create complete chaos and confusion amongst the public in order to defeat PTI in the election.

The complaint alleged that the ECP allowed the caretaker set-up to continue inflicting atrocities upon PTI leaders and workers and failed to provide a level playing field for the election. ‘‘The events leading up to Feb 8 [elections] are well known and established.’’

PTI to stage protests on August 5 as Imran Khan completes a year in captivity

Upping the ante against the ruling coalition, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to stage protests across the country on August 5, with demands for its founder Imran Khan's release and relief for inflation-weary masses.

The former ruling party has been calling for Imran's release, who has been behind bars for over a year. The deposed prime minister was arrested in Lahore on August 5, 2023, after a court sentenced him to three years in prison for illegally selling state gifts.

The protest call was made by PTI stalwart Asad Qaiser during a press conference on Sunday, jointly addressed by the party's Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and others in Islamabad.

"August 5 is when the PTI founder was arrested. Imran Khan will complete a year in captivity on the comping August 5. We will stage protests on that day," Qaiser said while referring to the deposed prime minister's arrest in the Toshakhana case.

'PTI members facing a vicious witch-hunt'

Condemning the indiscriminate crackdown against the party, the former National Assembly speaker alleged that the PTI lawmakers and social media activists were currently facing a vicious witch-hunt.

"This crackdown is being done after the Supreme Court's verdict [on the reserved seats]," he said, urging the apex court to take a suo motu notice on the matter.

The Supreme Court, in its short order on July 12, allowed the PTI to receive seats in the assemblies reserved for women and minorities.

In the landmark ruling, the apex court directed the PTI to submit a list of its eligible candidates for reserved seats to the electoral body within 15 days of the verdict.

The ECP should then publish the list of reserved seats of the candidates on its website within seven days, the SC ruling stated.

However, the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) filed a review petition against the SC ruling declaring the PTI eligible for the reserved seats.

As the authorities continue to round up PTI leaders and activists in different cases, Qaiser said that "baseless cases" against them should be stopped.

He alleged that "41 MNAs are being forced to quit the party". He censured that the parliament would lose its superior status if parliamentarians were being insulted in such a way.

"We also invite all political parties to sit with us against the imposition of a ‘fake and mandate-less government’”.

'Sit-in on D-Chowk on cards'

Meanwhile, PTI Secretary General Omar alleged that the incumbent government continued to mistreat the party’s lawmakers and that the party workers and leaders were being made to disappear.

“Cases are being lodged against Sheikh Waqas and his aides. We strongly condemn this fascism,” he added.

The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly said that his party would hold a key session to decide on future strategy as a sit-in on D-Chowk, Islamabad, was on the cards alongside other options.

He reiterated that a fresh election was the only remedy to all issues in the country.

PTI leaders’ bail confirmed in judicial complex vandalism case

PTI leaders Ali Nawaz Awan, Shibli Faraz, Umar Ayub and others appeared before the court for confirmation of their bail, while Ali Amin Gandapur skipped today’s hearing.

The ATC after confirming bail of the PTI leaders, adjourned the further hearing of the case till September 4.

In 2023, the Islamabad police registered case against PTI leaders for ‘attacking, vandalising, and damaging’ the judicial complex during former premier appearance.

A case was registered against the PTI leaders and dozens of workers under Section 353/7 of the ATA and other provisions.

According to the FIR, the leaders of a “political party” were leading the mob, adding that they provoked the people, which led to vandalism.
