Mzansi Super League 2018 highlight with regards to Fast bowling was Anrich Nortje.

Although he got injured after playing 3,4 matches only but those were enough to highlight his future potential and impress Dale Steyn.

Nortje has blossomed late as a Fast bowler. Injuries and lack of consistency were his issues previously but in last 2 domestic Seasons he was done very well and is reckoning now for International Cricket.

After getting fit again He has been selected for South Africa's Odi team and is all set to debut soon. For Test team aswell he will most likely be stand by and a longterm replacement for Dale Steyn. With Olivier going the Kolpak way Ngidi would be back in playing eleven and Nortje would most definitely be part of Test Squad.

Nortje is Tall, well built seamer who has the ability to hit 150 kph. He is an exciting Fast bowler to watch.

If he impresses in Odi series vs Srilanka and stays fit than he may make the cut for WC2019 squad.

Let's see how he performs in International Cricket. Rabada, Ngidi, Nortje & Steyn all hitting 150 kph will make SA a strong bowling outfit for WC 2019.

Man I'm so happy. Nortje bowls serious heat. The man was beating AB for pace in the MSL. He scared the living daylights out of a few batters.

Saw him bowl a 147 kph delivery.

Looks well built and was bowling an okay length. South Africa pace factory is top class

Doing well and is pressing a claim for that third seamer spot. Bowls high 140’s.

SA needs to do something about Kolpak poaching soon or he will go the DO way too .

Nice easy action.

Good pace but not doing much with the ball at the moment.

Looks good but needs to.move the ball a bit to find success at top level.

Just got Bairstow with an absolute beauty that jagged in viciously at 90 mph and cleaned him up. Reminded me of Imran's 1982 indippers.

Bowling some absolute jaffas now. Stokes gone for 35 to a ball that moved at speed. If Steyn is praising you , then you clearly have much more than just heat.

He's looked good round the wicket to the left-handers, getting the ball to leave them.

looks really good on a helpful pitch, not sure he would do much in flatter conditions tho. seems an up and down pacer who relies on bounce and seam movement, bit like nantie hayward with more control.

Pretty decent talent. Hopefully he remains with SA and doesnt go to the kolpak route.

Serious Gas from Nortje.

what a bowler. Yes I know he struggled in india but then every great bowler struggles in india unless you know how to utilize reverse swing at express pace.

nortje will learn I am sure but man he is a beast on bouncy tracks and pitches that will offer swing.

Superb player. Hopefully he will become as good as steyn.

I'm sure some County will be on the phone to his agent shortly about a Kolpak deal.

Intelligent bowler too.

Pace and brains.

Mixed his length up well, yorkers, bouncers.

A few words for Broad too :)

Even in India he bowled well. But those lengths are punishable there. In most places they are wicekt aking deliveries

He's a far better bowler than what he's shown. I reckon Faf told him to bowl aggressively and intimidate batsmen and that's how he was bowling bouncers. Anyone who's watched him bowl at first class level knows that his stock ball is full and straight coming in to the right hand batsmen. With the short ball as a suprise.

With Philander retiring, Nortje is the next man in and I have faith he'll do well. The only doubt I have over him is the amount of injuries he's suffered. But rest assured, he's in for the long haul.

Actually there's a few talented kids at domestic level. Nandre Burger, Lutho Sipamla, Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are the next generation. Darryn Dupavillon is another talented bowler but he's always injured.

Ntini's son is a very talented guy.

Yeah I forgot about him. There's also Ethan Bosch. His action needs refinement but there's talent there.
Do watch the U19 world cup. Coetzee will suprise a lot of people.

I watched his hightlights vs Pakistan U19. He is talented

I don’t see him taking a Kolpak deal. He would have gone to the WC had he not been injured. South Africa have gone back to him as soon as he has recovered. Most of the players who have taken Kolpak deals have been players who won’t get a chance to play for South Africa or players close to retirement.

There's a level of entitlement with some of the players who went kolpak. Olivier and Abbott claimed they went for the security but they also chickened out from having to compete with Steyn, Rabada, Philander. There was also Ngidi who's been very very good at domestic level and no quota player. Fact is, there's far too many players(fast bowlers in the majority) in our system good enough for test cricket. But some of the white players feel entitled to be selection. Madness. Rilee Roussouw is another one. The man was next in line for a test slot and he decided to go kolpak.

Marchant De Lange got a stress fracture and was never the same again. In that time Philander and Rabada came in to the scene and stole his thunder. That's just how competitive it is here.

I don't mind players going to England to make some money but they mustn't lie and claim qoutas forced them out. That's a lie.

please tell me why leus de plooy wasn't given a chance earlier before he left??

yea I agree. south africa are still stacked with talent. duane is not even a big loss.

the one that hurts the most is abbott. What a player he is but he can never replace rabada unfortunately because rabada is quicker and just as good although I still do believe abbot is more skilful.

if everyone remained this would be saffers depth in fast bowling.

nortje
rabada
philander
ngidi
sipamla
bosch
coetzee

duanne Olivier
abbott
De lange

I am missing atleast 3 or 4 more. Ofcourse only 3 can play at once and the best bowlers always play for south africa.

abbot and Olivier were afraid of challenges so they took the easy route of finding a county team ro play for. I totally agree with that statement.

He's never managed to hold on to a starting spot in franchise cricket. Talented player. Probably should have changed franchises long ago.

Any other bowler capable of bowling at 150ks?

Sisanda Mahala can also bowl fast but he's not good enough for international cricket. Of the really young one's still coming through I'd say Lifa Ntanzi, Achille Cloete and Gerald Coetzee are the speedsters. Coetzee Is the standout player. There's another kid Michael Booth. He's got gas. Zimbabwean born but studies in Kwa Zulu Natal province. That's 4 player's capable of 140 clicks and all of them are under 19.

He's good enough to be a around 24-26 average bowler. If he stays fit, he'll win us games.

You forgot Hardus Viljoen. He's another one who gets them through at serious pace.

wow. just wow man. no words. unbelievable. 156.3333 jeeez. man. thats some wheels. beautiful bowling. Real speed demon. one of the fastest bowlers ever.

God bless this guy. The over to Joss Butler was one of the best passages of cricket I have seen for ages, maybe 10-15 years ago I had seen something of that level!

This is good era for fast bowling. Nortje has massive potential. Sheer pace and attacks the stumps.

He might end up as an England bowler if South Africa are banned from cricket

Finally a proper speed demon emerges, and this one so far has shown to have the fitness for test cricket, unlike Lockie Ferguson. Should be exciting to watch :akhtar

Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje brought his A game against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday night as he hurled thunderbolts after thunderbolts and in the process ended up bowling the fastest delivery in IPL history.

The South African Nortje’s fastest delivery was clocked at 156.2 kmph which broke his countryman Dale Steyn’s record of 154.4 kmph.

Not only that, the delivery with which the DC pacer got rid of Jos Buttler, was clocked 155.21 kmph – the second fastest in IPL history.

And add to that, he also took the record for the third fastest delivery in the tournament’s history to his name.

When asked about the unique feat, Nortje replied, “Really? No idea. Hearing it for the first time.”

“[I’ve] been feeling it the last few days. Nice to see some results. Buttler played them really well. Maybe I was a touch too full. Didn’t expect him to go for a six first ball. Maybe he was expecting something else off that delivery. Stuck to my strength and paid off. Didn’t expect the second ramp.”

Nortje combined with his countryman Kagiso Rabada and debutant Tushar Deshpande to guide DC to a 13-run win over RR as they reclaimed the top spot in IPL points table.

“Luckily I stuck to it. We’ve got a good coach in Ryan. Lovely working with KG. Tushar has been working in the nets. Enjoying my experience with them. Doesn’t look like it but it’s nerve-wracking. Better to be on the field than on the other side,” said the 26-year-old who finished with figures of 2/33 from four overs.

Nortje was brought in as replacement for Chris Woakes by DC after the England allrounder withdrew ahead of the start of the season. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders squad but a shoulder injury kept him from making his IPL debut and subsequently, he was released.

It was only earlier this week when Delhi Capitals pacer Anrich Nortje recorded the fastest ball in the history of Indian Premier League, clocking 156kph. And now he eyes the next big and the ultimate pace record that has belonged to veteran Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who had registered 161.3kph during a 2003 World Cup game against England.

"Hopefully it's something I've got in me and it's definitely something I've wanted to do," Nortje told his IPL team-mate R Ashwin on the latter's YouTube channel. "Maybe a good wicket, some adrenaline, the right combination and I can do it this IPL or maybe in the future."

Nortje had registered the record during his opening spell against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday against opener Jos Buttler. The Royals batsman executed a pre-meditated scoop against the delivery that went for a boundary. Buttler was eventually dismissed in the next ball when Nortje clicked 155kph.

Nortje later told Ashwin that had the giant screen displayed his pace and the record, he would have gone after Akhtar's record in that very game.

"I don't know. It's on the day," Nortje said. "I didn't know about the 156kph until after the game. Obviously there was nothing on the scoreboard. It would've been a bit of a help to get the blood flowing. But, I've got no idea."

Nortje had broken his compatriot Dale Steyn's record that evening, who had previously held the record having clicked 154.5kph back in 2012.

Steyn had later taken to Twitter to praise Nortje alongside Kagiso Rabada and Jofra Archer.

"KG, Archer, Ana. I'd have paid to watch them live tonight," He had tweeted. "Fast bowling is strong, and this competition is being dominated by these beasts!

“We learnt a lot coming to Pakistan” : Anrich Nortje

“We learnt quite a bit coming here,” said Proteas fast bowler, Anrich Nortje, in his reflections on the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan in Karachi, and how those lessons will be implemented in the second Test in Rawalpindi.

“Patience was very key in that game,” reflected Nortje. He felt the team executed their plans well in stages, but were “off the mark” at other times.

“Can’t be searching for wickets, that’s one thing I got out of it,” said Nortje. With the learnings from the first Test, Nortje hopes to implement them in the second Test.

He explained that the team had a conversation at the end of the first game, and discussed the positives as well as areas for improvement. “We’re quite clear on what we need to achieve,” stated Nortje.

Describing some of the off-field challenges the team has been facing, Nortje said, “it’s been difficult staying inside the room.”

Some of the players, including Nortje, have struggled with stomach bugs, which is often the case with overseas teams touring the subcontinent. However, the team is trying to make the most out of the situation it is in, with players engaging in card and online games.

Nortje reiterated the loss in the first Test did not dampen the mood of the team. “If anything, it has brought more energy and positivity in the group,” he said.

A third Test five-wicket haul for Anrich Nortje as Pakistan are bowled out for 272 in their first innings.
