It saddens me to see a young man field so poorly.

This is a young man who should be running around the field with lots of enthusiasm and athleticism but from what I have seen in the One-Day series against England is misfield after misfield from him.

Basic fielding skills seem to be lacking which is shocking.

Definitely an area that he needs to improve.
 
Disappointing show - he fielded a lot better in previous series. Not sure if it's nerves or something else. Needs to do far better, most of the youngsters are pretty decent in the field.

His domestic coaches need to be called in at the NCA and asked what they're doing
 
Do Pakistani grassroots/domestic coaches do any fielding drills ? And if so how intense are they ?

I know players will argue the state of Pakistani outfields are so poor that nobody wants to dive around but on these lush green English outfields there's no excuse.

And the fumbling is inexcusable.

Not at all, based on his appalling fielding in the series. Misfield after misfield.

Just because he made a couple of good catches, it doesn't mean that he should be excused of well-deserved criticism.

Even his batting has been poor. He better step up or will be shown the door

Its not one game either All throughout series hes prob had 6-8 simple misfields

Shocking how someone so young can be so bad

I haven't watched too much of this series tbf, looks like the problem is more about his ground fielding than his catching. Hopefully that will improve over time.
 
Pathetic fielding in this series. He needs to up his game in the field, but so do a number of others.

Ground fielding without a doubt.

Lost count of the number of misfields he has done. These aren't difficult stops other, rather basic ones where the ball should have been stopped.
 
It's been pretty bad this series but before that I recall him being a very good fielder. He was quite sharp in the U19 days as well.
 
he has been lazy this tour

lazy with his dismissals

and lazy with his fielding which all know is much better

I wouldn't say it was quite basic. The ball had a lot of spin on it, which was not easy to read off the bat, and the dew played a part too. He ran well to get behind the ball, he just overran it.

I think you need to look at it again. The ball spun after bouncing, going completely against Babar's running momentum.

Fair enough. His fielding definitely requires work based on what we witnessed in England, I just didn't think he was entirely at fault on this occasion.
 
Yeah I've noticed that too. I think he just loses focus and concentration on the field. That shows in his batting too when he gets to 20s and 30s and throws it away just like today.
 
As someone one said he needs to sort his body language. He's young enough and looks fit so has no excuses.
 
Yeah, no idea why he looks so timid, scared, particularly in the field.

Shouldn't go Asad shafiq way!
 
Could be a position-based issue.

Some players aren't good in the outfield (i.e. Inzi) but better in close.
 
A lot of criticism for the guy, some even going on to say "a disappointment" even for his batting, the guy is young, he's raw, he'll come good and develop.

Think his main problem is he doesn't keep his on the ball.
 
Unnecessary really. No other sports fans critique their team's players to the degree we do. One should not expect perfect players from a ridiculously flawed system. It's really that simple.

Actually, there is a reason for that (criticizing players).

I hardly criticize players for mistakes in the core game, lesser if he is young; but fielding is totally different issue - it indicates your passion to a thanks less job. His body language & decline in fielding indicates the worst - he doesn't like it & now that he has almost confirmed his spot in the team, it's coming out.

This is an alarming sign for PAK players - you'll be surprised to know that Saeed & MoYo (Youhana) were so good at the start of their career that one used to field at point & the other one & short mid wicket.

Absolutely no mercy or respite for negligence in fielding - at this age. I won't have written this had he got a duck. Batting is about skill & talent - he has plenty of that; fielding is attitude & urgency - if it doesn't come willingly, you have to kick some a**.

One cannot simply pinpoint the lapses as proof of negligence. To fairly evaluate, his fielding output throughout the match has to be considered.

In the last few matches he's had a few lapses in succession which were highlighted and Wasim doing his usual run of the mill, thoughtless commentary made them seem worse than they were.

Previously to those matches, Babar was making excellent stops at point, point-cover and took brilliant catches in the deep. Why were they not highlighted? Because we expect that from players coming through this highly flawed system?

To me, this just seems criticism for the sake of criticism. It's not precise and lacks detailed analysis. Pakistan fans in general have made a habit of this.

It was nice to see an improvement in Babar's effort today, particularly the diving stop on the boundary towards the end even though Windies winning chances at the time were virtually nil.
 
Babar Azam's lethargic fielding

Has twice allowed Sri Lankans to run two when they should have scored one only. :babar

Needs to improve since he seems to be our long-term investment :amir3

Imad Wasim has been very sloppy in the field. Atleast Babar held on to a catch.
 
His fielding has always been a good cure for insomnia, and his batting seems to be heading in the same direction.
 
he is actually a very good catcher we would need him in slips as a replacement for YK.
 
His action comprises three steps...he first stop at ball...next motion he picks ball...then he take his arm back and then throw sisi throw. He needs to done fielding in one motion.
 
He is simply weak. Kamzor. Zaeef. Needs to work seriously hard on his body. His throws are like someone threw a balloon.

But you know what , he KNOWS that he's the Talent No1 in the team. SO all of this may be tolerated. I was surprised by the comments on his poor fielding last match.

That is specifically the culture that PAK need to get rid of if you wanna really improve (this CT performance notwithstanding).

India is not that far ahead, yet already people are calling for Kedhar Jadhav to be axed for his poor fielding and Ashwin's inclusion always throws up the "fielding liability " question. You guys need to send stern messages to your youngsters, before they too go into the TTF fielding culture.

I think too harsh criticism here for a young player. Based on what I have seen, he will do more than fine in longer term.
 
He's a good fielder. Seems as though people are just looking for anything to target Babar with.

Young batsmen need time and patience.
 
He's clearly becoming complacent and taking his spot in the team for granted. Also almost everyone in our team lacks the dedication, hunger and work ethic to become a top player. It's like they're content at knowing they're better than their team mates, but won't go the extra mile to truly compete with the best of the best.
 
In Pakistan, all players faults can be fixed with time and patience.
 
One of biggest problem that results in a Misfield is , as my High School coach often pointed out long ago, is that one has to BEND down as much as he can, comfortably. This will stop quite a few Misfields !!!!
 
He has good reflexes at slip and he took a blinder at cover in one match.

I think Pakistan should look to keep him in the slips
 
Babar Azam...poor fielder

He has to improve...weak legs...poor throw...Slow runner. Need to work hard
 
Good to see Babar fielding well with some good catches and run-outs. Looks like the confidence he gained from his good innings is rubbing off on his fielding.
 
Looks a bit fitter at the moment and today was probably his best performance in the field for Pakistan.
 
He's looking quite fit and really that catch of Perera was brilliant✨
 
that shows how important is fitness. you gotta be in great shape to move quick. I hope this trend of fitness continues for years to come.
 
His catching has always been top notch. Was brilliant at slip in the CT too. Ground fielding has improved as well.
 
Despite his heroics with the bat yesterday, his fielding still needs some work.

He dropped a sitter in the slips yesterday and although he went on to take two catches, one of them was pretty fortunate in that it bounced out of his hands and ricocheted into his leg/chest and he managed to hold on.
 
He bats very well plus feels pretty good. Missfields occur, it happens to the best of them.

To concentrate for longer periods have always been difficult/issue not just for Babar but Pakistan team in general.
 
I started this thread 13 months ago and to be fair to Babar he has shown signs of improvementin his fielding.

Still has some work to do,but definitely getting better.
