Imad's batting stats can be very deceiving. The reality is that his best performances with the bat rarely lead to wins. In fact, he has both a better average and SR in losses than he does in wins, with around 60-70% of his runs coming in losses. That unusually high average of his is solely due to not-outs.

Sure Nawaz is bad with the bat but he makes up for it with the ball, Imad does neither.

Another good comparison for Imad's batting would be Shadab who is a specialist bowler that can bat a bit. If you look at their match-winning performances with the bat Shadab comes out on top. Most of Shadab's runs have come in wins.

Mind you this is an Imad specific problem of performing well with the bat in losing causes. Even if you look at his runs in this year's PSL not a single fifty of his resulted in a win for KK.

Imad will have to bowl 10 overs but he proberly will have to open the bowling but then you also have Naseem who has been opening the bowling alongside Shaheen.

Shadab is the wicket-taker. Imad is a better defensive option than Nawaz and then you also have Iftikhar and Salman to bowl defensive off-spin.

Nawaz should be in the squad but Imad needs to be in the XI.

The pacers and Shadab will bowl 40 overs between them on most occasions. Imad, Salman and Iftikhar are good enough to bowl the remaining ten.

With Nawaz dislocating his bowling finger he might not be able to make the World Cup squad. Good opportunity for Imad.

Agreed. We will come across roads where pacers will be sent to the cleaners with the new ball. In such situations Imad will be Gold!

Like we seen in the last odi Iftikhar isn't good enough to bowl even 3 overs.Salman is a better bowler than Iftikhar.
 
Not played in even one game, I think that’s harsh. Imad is in decent nick and we saw how useful he can be in the 2019 WC. Pakistan have no proper late order hitters in their line up
 
Shadab has been found out big time. He is a decent leggie but has no business claiming to be an allrounder.

Is the door now opening for Imad to replace Shadab in ODIs?

Imad's batting will be a big boos for this fragile middle order.

Imad's bowling is underrated as well. He has become a pretty experienced bowler who does well during powerplay's.

Imad’s competition is with that not for good Nawaz.

I know Imad has been punching above his weight in batting in recent times, but I still see him as a bowler who can bat.

Team management would make a blunder by batting him at number 5 or 6.

In t20s he should be played as a bowling all-rounder and in odis he should play as a batting all rounder.

All-rounder Imad Wasim has signed for his third stint as an overseas player with Notts Outlaws.

The Pakistan international, who won the Vitality Blast in his second season at Trent Bridge in 2020, is available for the final two group games and the quarter-final stages should the Outlaws qualify.

He provides cover for Colin Munro and Samit Patel, both of whom have been ruled out for at least the remaining two group-stage games through injury.

“We’re delighted to welcome Imad back, particularly with the memories we have with him lifting the trophy at Edgbaston three years ago,” Peter Moores said.

“It helps that he’s been with us before. He knows how we operate and vice versa, and he has experience at the highest level which helps in big games. He can bowl across different periods of the game and is a strong middle-order batter.

“Both Colin and Samit are excellent players who have shown their class across the tournament this year, and we’ll miss what they bring to the side.

“However, we believe that by exercising the opportunity to recruit an overseas player of Imad’s quality, we can retain the balance of our side and continue to push for success.

Wasim has claimed 18 wickets across 16 games for Notts Outlaws across his two summers in England thus far, with an economy under seven.

With a T20 strike rate in excess of 130, the 34-year-old averages 24 with the bat for the Outlaws.
He has made 66 T20I appearances to date, amassing 64 wickets in that time.

The thing is he'd already signed a big contract at the CPL for this season.

I wonder if hand on heart he's ok with the fact that he hasn't been picked for the Afghanistan series and the Asia Cup?

Huge injustice, I would take Imad over Nawaz any day of the week.
 
Ridiculous not picked again. He should be playing at 7 for ODIs every single match. Even on a pitch favouring fast bowlers, it would probably be more suitable to drop the other spinner and play 4 fast bowlers. Especially with Agha in the side who bowls a bit now. We need his batting.
 
Surprised non selection of Imad Wasim.

Unsure what he has done wrong but it seems the selection committee don’t rate him anymore.
 
Imad has been on the decline recently and is probably happy to be joining the T20 leagues mercenary circuit now with less pressure to perform and higher financial rewards.
 
Never understood the hype surrounding Imad. He is a spinner who can’t spin the ball. His batting is hit and miss. Not to mention, his poor fitness levels. I will be happy if this guy never played for Pakistan again.
 
We have never really made best use of Imad. Yes his batting form has been decent off late but at international level he is typically a number 7/8 who can hit some big blows or score a calm 25-30.

He is a new ball bowler, thats what Imad really is. He is not a batter who can bowl.
 
Still good enough for 10 overs of bowling and some runs in the middle order I reckon.

However I think the selectors may have moved on from him in ODIs it seems.
 
The tactician seems to be doing pretty well in CPL

I urge Zaka Ashraf to do one good thing in your life and bring back Imad Wasim.
 
He should be considered to be a part of World Cup squad for Pakistan. He has been performing well with both bat and ball in the ongoing CPL and with Shadab Khan bowling form isn't great, he could be the perfect replacement.
 
As our bowling has now been exposed, I urge Army Chief to bring back the best new ball bowler in the country.

Added bonus, he bats decently too.
 
With Shadab and Nawaz not in the best of forms, Imad certainly has a strong case to be in the Pakistan World Cup squad.

He's the perfect #7 in ODIs, aggressive with the bat capable of exploding, economical with the ball
 
His bowling normally troubles the non Asian sides, have him come in after the first change
 
Don't get it twisted, he's equally as toothless with the ball as any of our other spinners. The guy doesn't even spin it. But at least he's not bowling full tosses and half trackers getting smashed for 8 an over, so I wouldn't mind his inclusion.

The issue is shadab Nawaz aren't taking wickets but also going for over 7+ economy. Imad is a darter but atleast he will do a better job than those 2

Naseem doesn't look like he's going to play the first couple games so he can open the bowling which could be an option.
 
Imaad could be a useful inclusion in the world cup squad.
Adds a bit more batting than say Nawaz.
Additionally, he's not a wicket taker but can keep things economical. Only question is how effective will he be in the middle overs since we already have 3 good fast bowlers at the top.
 
He's opening the bowling now in the CPL with Amir.
And he gets a wicket in his 2nd ball

This guy wins PSL as captain, gets unfairly ousted and replaced with Babar just because he's the national team captain, and people are mad that he got upset??

You can't complain that players don't have "fire in their bellies" and then complain when Imad Wasim is fighting for his spot and has some resentment. He deserves to be in the ODI and T20I teams

With the injury to Naseem Shah we could give Imad the new ball. I think he would be quite helpful.
 
I agree with Imad’s inclusion.

Unlike Abrar, Saud and Saim he is not an unknown quantity.

Imad will be solid for us and the least gambly option if we want a change.
 
He is a improvement on Nawaz & Shadab due to the control he gives with the ball & reliability with the bat. Being a experience head & leader like, he could be useful to the Pakistan team.

At international level Imad is typically a number 7/8.

Stats can be deceiving. As much as I like Imad, we need to be truthful. Imad is a gutsy batter who can chip in with some handy scores but his batting abilities are limited.

Treat him like a new ball bowler who can bat a bit. That is when you will get maximum value out of Imad.

I would also make him vice captain.

Today he once again made a very handy contribution for his team Jamaica Tallawahs with bat and ball where he first scored 41 runs off 24 balls and then took 2 wickets for 24 runs. He now has taken 13 wickets in the tournament and has scored 255 runs.

T20 performances are not a good gauge for ODI Cricket where you have to bowl ten overs and the batsmen have the full 50 overs to bat. T20 tactics will not work in the middle overs.

Well I've been calling out for his inclusion for a while now.

Yes he has decent stats to back him up but more importantly, he has a brain which clearly other players lack

Oh bhai this is Alum Rock analysis.

He's more than good enough to play white ball cricket for Pakistan as a lower middle order batsman. I'm not say he's a world beater but if you really think his batting abilities are limited, check his FC average. You don't average 40+ if you're not a proper batsman.
 
With the absence of Naseem, it should be a no brainer to include Imad as he's been very effective with the new ball. Get 4 overs out of him upfront with Shaheen.
 
Chief selector Inzamam Ul Haq while talking to the media said:
"I do have powers to select players but I cannot close doors on any player; Selection is open for all players, for Sarfaraz and Imad Wasim as well; Imad has not played ODI cricket for a very long time; Anyone who needs to play for Pakistan has to perform in domestic cricket; Let me make this clear that performances in Pakistan's domestic cricket will be counted and will be the main criteria because we want players to play in our domestic cricket which will improve our cricket"
 
This guy should be playing every T20I game for Pakistan. Not sure, how effective he would be in ODI or test cricket but he definitely deserves to be playing for Pakistan in T20Is.
 
So now we are doomed if our new ball pacers are sent to the cleaners.
