What's new

[VIDEOS] Central Punjab's seamer Mohammad Ali

I am actually impressed by his relentless pace through out the innings and he can move the ball both ways

He was slightly below as Naseem shah through out the innings which is still good pace if you can move the ball both ways. Need to see him in better conditions.

Pakistan has done disjustice to this guy for making him debut here. On a sporting track i expect him to bowl well.

Even as the DRS was being taken and the third umpire was going through the process, England captain Ben Stokes prematurely walked up to Mohammad Ali to shake hands with him. However, the Pakistan No. 11 batter refused to do so.

Need to move on, just a mediocre domestic bowler.

Looks like his career for Pakistan took a big knockout blow in these two Tests

It's unfair to rate a pacers performance on these pitches, especially when debuting.

But he has such poor agility, fields like a 50 year old club pro.

What were the type of wickets that he picked up his domestic wickets on? What was the team management's plan while playing him? Incompetence all around where the captain and coaches don't know the strengths and weaknesses of their players.

I think the guy has an MBA in English literature

It might explain why he and Masood are in the squad. Maybe they just wanted England to know we have people who can speak their language

Is he a pacer sorry he is medium fast who has no business on these dead wickets

For every muhammad asif there is always a muhammad khalil/ asad ali with similar or better first class stats.
Gotta back the right horse. Faheem and ali leading a test attack is just lolworthy.

Rawalpindi was not a fair test for him. That pitch had nothing.

But he didn't do much in Multan, which is not a good look alongside his below-par fielding.

Two years ago we had the pleasure of witnessing one of the best horses for courses selection of all time in cricket.

Scott Boland made his debut against England on his home ground. He was selected only because it was his home ground and he had experience with the conditions. It was implied that this would probably be Scott's first and last test match.

Scott is now 33 years old. He most probably won't play many matches for Australia but will no doubt leave international cricket with some amazing memories from the few games he plays ( he will probably average under 20 with the ball!)

There isn't much of a comparison between Scott and Muhammad Ali apart from them both making their debuts in home tests in December against England, but we can certainly compare how their entry to international cricket was handled.

Scott was handed a debut on a ground he had bowled on 100s of times and where due to his knowledge of local conditions he held a significant advantage over the batsmen. He was partnered with three solid test bowlers so that if anything did go wrong he wouldn't have to take major flack, he would be protected and given advise.

Contrast this with Muhammad Ali. Any advantage he could have had over the touring side was cruelly stripped away from him a frightened Rameez and Babar. He had nobody to lean on for support as his fellow comrades were debutants, one of which barely plays test match cricket and the most experienced bowler was a 21 year old rookie. His captain had no clue and he was under the pump from day one.

Contrast the two entries into international cricket and you will decide for yourself that it would be unwise to judge Muhammad Ali too harshly. He has been well and truly stitched up.

Lahore, 13 April 2023: Pakistan Shaheens’ Muhammad Umar has been ruled out of the upcoming Zimbabwe tour due to a knee injury and has been replaced by Test fast bowler Mohammad Ali.

Mohammad Ali has featured for Pakistan in two Tests, taking four wickets. He made his international debut against England in the first Test match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi held from 1 to 5 December last year.

A good PSL continues for Mohammad Ali as he bamboozles the stumps of Colin Munro in the ongoing match between IU and MS.

3/19 for Mohammad "daisy" Ali, his wickets included Colin Munro, Faheem Ashfaf, and Ubaid Shah. Really stepping up for his team against a really strong IU side.

Fans were harsh on this guy over his performance in the debut series which were played on extremely batting friendly conditions. Not to forget, his bowling partners were also newbies and one of them couldn't even last an innings.

Mohammad Ali earned the Man of the Match award for his outstanding bowling performance taking 3 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 over spell against Islamabad United.

Top bowler in power play and death overs. He would be an upgrade on haris rauf and even current Shaheen.

Mohammad Ali has been grinding in the domestics which is why he looked much more consistent with his line and length. His test debut did not go as planned because Pakistan is not where you would want to make your debut as a fast bowler. But his PSL run so far has been superb, Much superior to that no-look pace bowler like haris.

Mohammad Ali continues his suberb form with the ball. Bowled a good over conceding only one run with a wicket taken against LQ in the 6th match of the PSL 9. What a great talent, his first victim was Sahibzada Farhan.

He's a good workhorse type bowler

Hard done by and discarded after the pitches motormouth chairman rambo produced against England.

Mohammad Ali posted impressive bowling figures against Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2024, securing 2/28 in 4 overs. However, he is not an athletic fielder.

Medium pacer with no swing, no seam movement and can barely even hit the good length serves up a juicy 130kmph half tracker that was asking to be hit. M Haris hits it straight to the 1 fielder at square leg and M Ali jumps in the air and double fist bumps like a mad man as if he just ripped the middle stump out with a 90MPH inswinging yorker. One of the most over exaggerated celebrations I've seen in a while.

This is exactly why the PSL never produces quality international cricketers. This is just another Dhani, who is relying on the batters miss hitting the ball into the fielders hands for wickets.

Bowlers like M Ali would be smashed to all parts at international level but they pick up these nothing wickets in the PSL and the PCB has no choice but to give "youngsters" a chance.

I feel he's bowled better than our international pacers hand down. He's got a top yorker, hits the hard length with movement. You can't deny his quality so far in PSL. Look at his stats:

Mohammad Ali so far at the Pakistan Super League:

2/23
2/28
3/19
3/23

Overs 16
Runs conceded 93
Wickets 10
Economy-rate 5.81
Average 9.30
Strike rate 9.60

He has been outstanding in this psl no one in the world would have thought he would have had this impact

If he has a good.psl he should be selected.

We need to capitalise on players momentum and confidence.

Credit to Rizwan ;)
Credit to working hard in domestic red ball cricket

The same red ball cricket a lot of people were mocking for having low standards. Guys like Muhammad Ali, Aamer Jamal, Khurram Shahzad and Mir Hamza are proving that the red ball experience makes a big improvement

Whereas people like Harris Rauf are falling off!

You have a valid point.

Bowls at decent pace , is extremely accurate , intelligent enough to read batsmen mind , can move the ball both ways , wish he would have been 6/7 years younger.

His red ball grind is working for him in this PSL season. Hitting consistent lines and has some extra height to his advantage. Pretty good so far.

The in form PK pacer. I know he ain't going to change but if he could get a little closer to the stumps, he would become a real handful at the higher levels

Was only interested at how he would match up with Jason Roy, as I feel this is the only batter/opener in the tournament that is elite international class

And Muhammad Ali bowled really well to him on a placid track. Signs are good

Muhammad Ali in a media talk:

"I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. I performed well in domestic cricket and I also had a great season in last year’s PSL. For the New Zealand series we are doing our best to prepare ourselves. Although pacers get some assistance in New Zealand but the Kiwis play exceptionally well in their home conditions and give you a tough challenge so we are preparing accordingly."

"I want to make it clear that I am not in competition with any other player. My focus is on preparing myself for the responsibilities given to me and I will try to execute according to the demands of the situation."

"As for pressure of International game it usually affects those who are not well-prepared. However I have played many domestic tournaments over the last six years and performed in different conditions and on various pitches. I have also delivered strong performances in PSL and BPL so at the international level it’s all about handling pressure and if you manage it well, you succeed."
