[VIDEOS] Fakhar Zaman Appreciation Thread

Fakhar Zaman Appreciation Thread

Should strongly support Fakhar Zaman in the team and should Pakistan play high pressure games, he should simply be in the team no matter what.

The mental toughness and grit he has shown time and again is very hard to find especially in our cricketers. Though the 2021 semi knock ended in a defeat, but he was excellent. It's not easy to shake off the rust and defeat your technical deficiencies in such situations. Jayawardene was one such name in international cricket who was brilliant during such situations and so was Gilchrist.

100%.

After a long long time, we have finally found a player who does the opposite to the rest of our players. May or may not perform in the low stake games but is showing up with his best in the knockout stages of high pressure games. Everybody else in that team is weak willed save for Fakhar, Shadab, Rizwan and Shaheen.

You can criticize their playing ability but you could see in their body language that they were there to win, and carried themselves as such.

Big match high impact player . Has played two semi finals and two finals for Pakistan .

A match winning century and match winning 90 odd in the two finals and two 50s in the semi finals .
This kind of mental toughness is very rare for Pakistan batsman .

His 190 against South Africa was probably the best knocks I’ve seen . He is quite frankly capable of doing anything.

Beast !

I think Babar was fairly good and shed off some his softness in this wt20.

He deserves the praise.

But he did play a poor 19th over. Went only for three runs.

Asif Ali getting out on first ball was a big set back. Could have been a good partnership with fakhar

He will forever be associated with that 100 in CT17 final. But hopefully he will play better knocks in future.

Regarding his 190, as good as it was, I thought he just got a little susceptible when the wickets were falling around him and there were growing calls for his ouster yet he responded in a great manner. Would have been awesome if he had managed to win the game. Think he is at his best when he has clarity of mind and being told to just attack.

Plus I do think he can make a successful test opener provided he works with good people who can work on his technical deficiencies like short balls and some outside offstump troubles.

I think it was a brilliant over by Cummins. You have to remember the opposition had also come up with some tricks up their sleeves. It was a game of fine margins and just wasn't our day sadly. On another day, we could have restricted them to 160.

Fakhar Zaman deserves much credit.
He is one of the best clutch player in the world.
He has some x-factor in him which makes him unpredictable many times.
Fakhar Zaman is best pakistani opener since Anwar in limited overs.

He sure loves a big occasion. Good to see he wasn't trying to overhit the ball in most of those shots.

Why cant Fakhar do for Pakistan what Warner does for Australia in red ball?

Watching tests would be so much fun if Fakhar can learn to adapt.

The Brisbane Heat have secured the services of Pakistan top-order batter Fakhar Zaman for a three-match stint in January.

Fakhar will replace English batsman Tom Abell, whose stay in the KFC BBL has been cut short, with his knee injury proving more serious than initially indicated. After playing just two matches, Abell has returned home to the UK to recover from a damaged lateral ligament.

Fakhar's first game for the Heat is pencilled in against the Melbourne Renegades in Geelong on January 6.

The left-hander has played 175 T20 games with a career strike-rate of 132.96.

He has played 64 T20 Internationals, 53 One Day Internationals and three Tests to date.

After originally joining the Pakistan navy where he currently holds an honorary rank of Lieutenant, his cricket career took off through a string of ODI highlights.

In July 2018, he became the first Pakistan batsman to score a double century in an ODI and in the same tournament against Zimbabwe, eclipsed the record of Sir Viv Richards to reach 1000 runs in ODIs in the fewest innings.

Playing against South Africa in the second ODI last year, Fakhar scored 193 which was the highest individual score while chasing in an ODI, surpassing the 185 scored by Shane Watson against Bangladesh.

Those two scores make him just one of two players (alongside Rohit Sharma) to boast two 190+ scores in ODI cricket.

He partly attributes his rapid development on working alongside former Brisbane Heat batting trump Brendon McCullum at the Lahore Qalanders in the Pakistan Super League.

Given Queensland border restrictions, Fakhar cannot play in home matches for the Heat on January 8 and 12, with the expectation he will play interstate on January 6, 16 and 19, and possibly finals.

Brisbane Heat coach Wade Seccombe said the club looked forward to bringing Zaman into the squad for the remainder of the competition.

"It's great to have a player of his class available for us at relatively short notice," Seccombe said.

"We're naturally disappointed to lose Tom though and wish him a speedy recovery back home in England.

"Like all the clubs, we certainly value the commitment the international players make to come to play in the BBL and it was a real shame to lose Tom so early in the tournament.

"Fakhar will join us in Melbourne ahead of the game against the Renegades. We are pleased he will be with us for what are shaping as key games.

"He is a classy performer who gets the job done in the teams he has played for so we are confident he can settle in quickly."

The Heat are currently preparing in Hobart for tomorrow's New Year's Day clash with the in-form Hobart Hurricanes.

Pakistan recruit Fakhar Zaman will bolster the Heat and make his debut alongside at least seven others who have never played for the club before, including assistant coach Darren Lehmann's son Jake – an experienced campaigner with South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers – and Australia A opener Bryce Street.

In a further blow however, Queensland's border restrictions may prevent Fakhar, who only recently arrived in the country, from travelling to Brisbane to play in the Heat's following match on Saturday against the Hobart Hurricanes.

Fakhar needs to cut out his cross batted slog sweep over mid wicket

That shot gets him out more times than gets him runs

He really needs to stick to hitting the ball down the wicket more and along the ground

In a boost for the Heat, Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman, who was unable to play their last match and will also miss tonight's game against the Strikers at the Gabba because of Queensland's border rules, will remain with Brisbane for the rest of the regular season.

Fakhar, who has been training in Melbourne, initially signed on for a three-game stint but has only managed one appearance so far, will be available for the Heat's three remaining matches, including the Sydney Sixers game at the Gabba next Wednesday before returning home.

Fakhar has been unable to enter Queensland under the state government's border restrictions until he has spent 14 days in Australia.

Nice one PCB

Cricket Australia would send it’s players to IPL if there would be a Pakistan/Australia tour ongoing

Good, Fakhar is at the stage where he won’t benefit hugely from a few more games so better for them to prioritise PSL over BBL while other teams are chosing IPL over international matches against Pakistan.

its a real shame he only got one game but surely Australian Board won't deny a tour because a BBL team lost FZ to Domestic commitments.

They themselves held back player like M Marsh in the test squad as a reserve.

After making his debut in in 2017, he has scored 210, 193, and a match winning century in CT final.

I think he is one of the best LOI batters in the world right now.

Fakhar being named in the ODI team of the year should give him a boost. After Hafeez retirement he has more responsibility in our middle order.

Big year ahead for him.

Fakhar has hardly played in the middle order.

I think your confusing formats. He is a gun consistent opener for Pakistan is one day internationals and has always opened .

It’s the t20 team where he bats at 3, where he needs to add more consistency. But this guy is capable of anything. His blistering knock In the semi final against Australia was tremendous.

The perfect definition of a big match player.

Fakhar Zaman Appreciation Thread

He may not have fired in the Final, but Fakhar played a massive part in it through some wonderful fielding, especially that very smart run-out: waited and got his aim on target, not panicking by looking at the batsman. Shan Masood was a big wicket, of course. Most pleased for Fakhar. I hope for more consistency from him even at the international level because he can be a huge asset for Pakistan with the hitting ability that he possesses.

He’s a big match player. For once in a major semi Final/ final he failed with the bat but then turned it on in the field .

On top of that such a humble and modest bloke .

What a tournament Fakhar has had no one could have imaged he would have been one of the best batters in this tournament.

Happy for FZ to have played a big tournament again, after the rise of our openers he was feeling the pressure.

Which is probably created by fans because we connect good times with Fakhar and want those memories back when he comes out to play.

I think he has the charm to go with it too. Very likeable person.

Hit a brilliant run-a-ball 95 opening for KP today in Pakistan Cup.

Can't wait to see him bat in the ODIs.

This man is severely under rated, he is overly criticised for carrying a line up with a limited ceiling. He would be seen on the same level as the likes of Hales, Roy and Butler if he was playing here in the England XI. Fakhar can take a bit of time to get going but more often then not he makes up for it, there are some dismissals we need to accept because that’s the nature of his style of play, Batsman with his numbers don’t fall off trees in Pakistan, many have very short memories.

Pakistani fans are more fickle than AEW fans mate. And yeah, they have notoriously short memories too. Fakhar is a gun player who is not only world-class and mentally strong but also has the ability to deliver in big match situations. Unlike certain others I'm grateful to have a player like him in our limited-overs set-up.

I always believed in FZ. Use him as an opener to deliver the goods. He is a game changer and was unfairly pushed down the order.

Excellent innings from an excellent player.

Funnily enough, this is his first century in Asia and his first one at home. All his previous ODI centuries have come overseas. Also averages 47 overseas.

Whenever the series is on the line, you can count on this guy to step up.

Ungainly technique yes, but insane mental strength.

That's why I'm very forgiving of his bad patches of form. We see too many players who are lions in pressureless situations and kittens in the big matches.

The man has done it again, already an all time great Pakistani batsman. The frequency of these big hundreds are insane. Hope he can continue the good form but even when he’s not middling it, you’d be insane to overlook him

Love seeing Fakhar performing but I worry he might not be able to replicate these performances on tougher pitches. Hopefully, he proves me wrong in the World Cup. That slog-sweep of his will be crucial.

Fakhar Zaman is currently winning praise from all and sundry and the in-form Pakistan opener gets the chance to continue his remarkable recent run and match the record owned by Sri Lanka legend Kumar Sangakkara when his side hosts New Zealand in the third ODI of their ongoing series in Karachi on Wednesday.

Fakhar became just the fourth Pakistan player to have scored three straight ODI centuries when he smashed an unbeaten 180 against New Zealand on Saturday and the experienced left-hander will be going for four tons on the trot when the two teams next meet.

While a trio of consecutive centuries had occurred in men's ODIs on 12 occasions, only Sangakkara has done it in four straight matches courtesy of his outstanding run for Sri Lanka at the 2015 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Sangakkara reached three figures against four different sides - Bangladesh, England, Australia and Scotland - while Fakhar will have reached the milestone just against New Zealand should he register yet another century on Wednesday.

Saleem Malik speaking to the media

“Fakhar Zaman played really well and this is precisely the reason why I have always said that he should be a permanent member of our playing XI,”

In-form Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has become Babar Azam's closest rankings challenger after he was rewarded for his recent dominance with massive gains on the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Fakhar has commenced Pakistan's ongoing ODI series at home against New Zealand in a blaze of glory, with the 33-year-old scoring back-to-back centuries to put his side in control of the five-match series.

The left-hander scored 117 in the series opener in Rawalpindi and then backed it up with a magnificent 180* in the second match at the same venue and was duly rewarded with an eight-spot jump to second behind Babar on the latest rankings update.

Fakhar has scored three ODI centuries on the bounce and rises to a career-best rating of 784 rating points and is now the closest challenger to his skipper despite trailing by 103 rating points.

2 brilliant innings followed by 2 which he would like to forget.

Consistency not there.

Disappointed with Fakhar in the 5th ODI - not able to assert himself.

363 runs in five innings with the highest score of 180* Fakhar Zaman was the player of the series against New Zealand

When he gets going he gets a biggie and when the going is tough he doesn't get the ball away. His average is proof that he gets really big scores once he passes 50.

Hope he we don't get many slow wickets this WC as Fakhar gets stuck on those kind of wickets.

Chasing 300, plays an innings at 50 SR.

Would Imam ever be given this non-scrutiny? He would've been slaughtered.

By the way I don't have issues with Fakhar today. There are days when things don't work out the way you want it to. But then Imam should also be given the same leeway.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for April 2023.

Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan wins the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, and Thailand skipper Naruemol Chaiwai secures the ICC Women’s Player of the Month after both produced dominant match-winning performances for their countries in the One-Day International (ODI) format.

Both batters were identified as April’s outstanding performers following a vote conducted among a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives, who, in combination with global cricket fans had been voting since the nominees were announced last week.

Fakhar becomes the first Pakistan player to win the monthly accolade since Sidra Ameen in November 2022, and does so on the back of two crucial match-winning centuries in Pakistan’s ODI series success against touring New Zealand.

Following a quiet T20I series, Fakhar was at the forefront of his side’s success in the subsequent ODI showdowns. Chasing 289 in the first match in Rawalpindi, the batter enjoyed a 124-run opening stand with Imam-ul-Haq in a supreme display of control and counter-attacking play, eventually securing a five-wicket win thanks to 117 runs in 114 balls.

Set a mammoth target of 337 in the second ODI at the same venue, Fakhar once again shined in an outstanding display of hitting and partnership building. His memorable, unbeaten 180 in 144 balls was the key contribution as Pakistan recorded their second highest ever successful ODI chase.

Reflecting on his success, Fakhar commented, “It is truly an honour for me to be named ICC Player of the Month for April. This month has been one of the highlights of my career and it was an amazing feeling to play in front of my own people in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi.

“I really enjoyed scoring back-to-back centuries in Rawalpindi, but my favourite was the 180 not out in the second match.

“I hope to continue the momentum leading into the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, and make Pakistan cricket fans happy and proud with my performances.”

Fakhar overcame fellow nominees Mark Chapman (New Zealand) and Prabath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) in the global vote, and commenting on his success in April, former Sri Lanka international and member of the voting panel Farveez Maharoof added, “Scoring consecutive centuries against a good team like New Zealand is a tough task. Fakhar not only did that, but he scored big hundreds, and he certainly deserves to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April.”
