[VIDEOS] "I am confident I'll earn my place back in the Pakistan team" : Hammad Azam

international cricket won't be a reality for him.

needs to work on his game so he keeps getting selected for domestic matches.

i'm sure the money would be decent for his family

Doing well with the ball and bat

Hammad Azam has better temperament then any other all around in Pakistan. His batting can be developed he has so much time

3 wickets for Sindh today, continuing his good run in the Pakistan Cup

Leading bowler but guess Wahab will overtake him

It's 2019 and this guy is still playing for the First XI.
Club level cricketer.

Hammad Azam 50 for Northern in Round 7 in QEA

100* for Northern vs Southern Punjab.

Hammad Azam’s sixth first-class century propelled Northern to 463 for seven, scored at an impressive run-rate of 4.22, and, in their reply, the tourists made 149 runs for the loss of two wickets at the back of half-centuries from Umar Siddiq and Zeeshan Ashraf.

Hammad scored an unbeaten 100 after resuming his innings on 48. The all-rounder crafted a 109-run stand for the sixth-wicket with his overnight partner Jamal Anwar, who made 44 from 106 balls.

The 28-year-old cracked six fours and two sixes in his 154-ball stay at the crease and also knitted a 66-run partnership with his side’s captain, Nauman Ali (37).

Always felt that this guy could add a lot of value to our team. Was extremely hard done by the management after the BD match he helped us win but since then, he hasn't done himself any favors to make a comeback. I do believe he's got strong batting potential.

Hammad Azam finishing as the top-scorer with a 117-ball 79 that included eight fours and two sixes for Northern today in the QeA2020

He really bats too low, no way Asif Ali should bat above him.
I really think with the presence of Rizwan in the side we can afford an all rounder at 7. And in seaming conditions in NZ I think Hammad Azam can be a good number 7.

Another guy on the hype train back in the day is now approaching 30 and nowhere to be seen.

Was touted to be the 'next Razzaq' - not that Razzaq was any ATG either.

Every time you see him play, you can see he can bat. Very composed at the crease, seems to have time to play and also a good head.
When someone like Faheem has played that many matches for Pakistan and not Hammad Azam, that's a shame.

Is Hammad a batting or bowling allrounder?

he himself is to blame. even when he was the captain he would bat way down ay 7. His brother haseeb azam with considerably less potential has more fight than he has ever had.

His composure is limited to this domestic cricket. He freezes in international cricket. Even looked atrocious the last time he played in PSL.

Seems like hes always been in his comfort Never really pushed himself to bat up the order or improve his bowling and really put his name out there up for selection

He really was very promising a decade ago but again someone who hasnt really improved since

I think that's the main issue, he is batting too low down the order. And he is not the one who decides his position. If 22 averaging Asif Ali is batting above him there is surely a problem.

Well if he cant even compete against Faheem Ashraf then really no hope for him.

Wasn't picked at his peak years. He wasn't mates with the skipper and others were selected ahead of him.

We can see with the example of asad shafiq how a long undeserved career can be had by having the right connections with the skippers and respective coaches

Another good knock from him coming in at 7 in first class cricket.

In overseas tests, if we go with an all rounder, he really can be the man.

He really looks to be in great batting touch. A good fifty in the first innings yet again.

100 not out for Hammad today in the Quaid e Azam Trophy.

Definitely in good form with the bat.

The more I think about it, the more I am getting convinced we can play him at number 7 in NZ.

His not so high average in First class has a lot to do with him playing for Rawalpindi and the bowling pitches they had.

He can be really handy in newzealand conditions , bowl 12 overs a day and score some runs at number 7.

Yes. He is not a wicket taker, but looks to have a good line and length, so he can bowl some tight overs when the quicks are tired.

Him and Talat can be ideal number 7 but can they they give you 12-15 overs in a day?

QeA20, Round 3, Day 3

Northern’s Sarmad Bhatti turned his overnight score of 13 into a brilliant 108 as the left-handed batsman recorded his first-class career’s fourth century. The 29-year-old crunched 13 fours and tw0 sixes and, over the course of his 226-ball stay at the crease, stitched a crucial 156-run stand for the sixth wicket with all-rounder Hammad Azam, who stroked a 120-ball 100 not out.

Playing his 100th first-class match, Hammad smashed 12 fours and three sixes on way to his career’s seventh century following which Northern declared their second innings at 311 for six.

The way he batted today tells us he had an eye on the PSL drafts. He came and hit 2 sixes in his first 5 deliveries.

I hope he gets a chance in one of the franchises this time. I have enough of poor pakistani players playing in every team.

Should be in the T20I squad, he was dropped way too early in the start anyways. His game is perfectly suited to T20s.

Solid! Do we know if he still bowls decent pacers? Always good to have part time bowling options in the side.

Hammad will be playing for Read Cricket Club in Lancashire this season.

He's signed a deal, providing of course Covid restrictions are lifted.

In a tournament where 350+ scores were common i don't see anything spectacular here tbh.

Hussain Talat over him any day but considering our selectors' affections towards older players, Talat might have to wait 7 or 8 years.

Talat never really excelled when he's been up against higher quality opposition. Hammad should have probably been given more opportunities than he was over his career, feels a similar path to Fawad, but probably not worth bringing him back now.

How many matches has Talat played to get to this conclusion? He's played 15 t20is and has played decently but yes he needs to improve.

He's the only one in our domestic who can bat in top 5 and score consistently at a healthy rate.
Hammad never really gave put himself in a position to get selected. Averaging below 30 in domestic cricket isn't going to guarantee his selection. Even when he led his team, he would bat at no.6 or no.7, so he has no one else to blame.

I have only really seen Talat in PSL and seemed to me he was more punishing on slower bowling and struggled against the genuine quicks. Let's see how he gets on in this season's competition. Would like to see Hammad in the PSL as well so we can compare the two.

Different type of players. Talat mainly bats in top 5 although pcb have been making him bat at 6 and 7 as well by typecasting him as an allrounder. IU under Dean Jones were pretty good with having his batting position fixed at no.4.
Hammad was picked by LQ in the earlier seasons i think but he didn't do well. Plus there isn't anyone else better at misusing a player than LQ.

Pretty confusing for Hammad at the moment as he told PakPassion.net:

"When I got the contract (with PSL) I thought the visa would be granted in 1-2 days; My family had come over to England via Turkey after some difficulty and their quarantine here was just ending but because of this contract, I sent them back to Pakistan!

"Now the family is gone, my luggage is packed but I am stuck here; The Club is nice to me but since I have told them I am not available now, so in a way my contract has been terminated; I have been waiting here for 10 days but the visa has still not been granted, so I hope that happens and things move on"

He's currently playing in the USA Minor League.

I wonder if he will look to settle out in the USA one day.

I'd let him, he had a great 1st class season but i wouldn't be disappointed if he joins the U.S. He's been quite disappointing and his numbers aren't the best.

Maybe Pakistan can give him a run seeing as he did well in the Pakistan Cup but you'd be wasting your time.

Wouldn't be surprised if he does. He's opportunities are limited to play for Pakistan.

Players like Hammad Azam are shooting their own foot by opting to play for USA, once they qualify for USA they won't be able to play in the PSL and other T20 leagues in Pakistan as LOCAL player.

They might be thinking of the income in "US $" but are they aware that the expenses will be in "US $" too, at the same time tax evasion in developed nations will be extremely difficult and the tax bracket will be higher along with the expenses related to cost/standard of living which will be many folds in comparison to the sub continent.

He is already playing in the domestic cricket, getting gigs in PSL, now in KPL, with the known faces is T10 he will get opportunities there too, Quetta is also planning to launch its own T10 league (still in infancy). These are some great opportunities to accumulate some quick cash, which will provide him enough money to live a decent life in Pak.

"He needs some sane voices to explain these things in detail, wonder if Saj could do that".

Note:-
What will he do after retirement in the USA?

He barely plays PSL bro. Realistically he has a better cricketing future and overall life in USA now

He's gone the Sami Aslam way. Had great hopes for him when he started out. Perhaps he wasn't given enough chances or didn't perform well enough when given the opportunity. His chances of representing Pak again are over. Good luck to him whatever he does now.

I guess from their perspective they aren't getting picked for the PSL so they won't lose out in that regard.

If they play in USA, they can also play in other T20 leagues around the world.

The only thing they lose out in is their domestic contracts from PCB.

There are a lot of Pakistani players looking to head out to the USA, but so far very few have actually been offered deals.

He had potential but he's sadly not that good enough for intl cricket.
