[VIDEOS] "I am hundred percent ready to represent my country" : Sajid Khan

To be very honest he's an extremely ordinary spinner. Nauman is much better although he is 5-6 years older than Sajid.

Sajid bowls too slow for a spinner and has a miserable action for an off-spinner. I would be more than happy if he proves me wrong but I dont anything special in his bowling

going by videos , he is no muck with the bat as well and can spin the ball as well... i know he is SUPPOSED to spin given he is a spinner but it is something that is missing in PAk spinners...

love his attitude and aggression.. maybe something he can translate into his performance. he can be ideal weapon in all conditions ...

I rate him very highly just because of his ability to wreck havoc and bundle opposition out for cheap scores , I don't even know why he is highly successful, from naked eye he doesn't even look special but something is working for him.

Karachi: Uncapped off-spinner Sajid Khan has full confidence in his abilities and is positive of deceiving batsman without bowling ‘Doosra’.

The 27-year-old Sajid, who has been named in the 20-member squad for South Africa Tests, revealed Mohammad Hafeez and Saqlain Mushtaq as his role models.

“My goal from U16 cricket was to become an off-spinner who can dominate without bowling doosra. We have a few examples in Nathan Lyon and Graeme Swann who deceives batters with their variations,” he said while talking to reporters in a virtual presser.

“I look to Mohammad Hafeez as a role model and Saqlain Bhai as an off-spinner. I also watch videos of Lyon and Swann but mostly Hafeez and Saqlain are my role models,” he revealed.

Sajid has no worries if he is not named in the last 16 for the first Test as he feels that being named in the 20-member squad is itself a big thing for him and his family.

He is a proper off-spinner

Very good stock ball and arm ball is nice too.

Action is very clean. Some shades of Greame swann in his action

Um, what changed ?

Has an ugly, frog in a blender type action but given his FC record in the past two seasons he earned a callup.

Sajid getting some one-on-one training with Saqlain Mushtaq

LoL what was Saqlain teaching him? He keeps bowling off break throughout the video which I believe he already knows how to.

I didn't find anything wrong though , I rate him really highly , he is a right successor to Yasir in tests ,

Same i just like his action and think he can become dangerous, I would really like to trial him in t20s and to add the boy can bat.

Only thing I will say is that he did get tonked a little in the practise games, however success comes with time and experience.

his normal action looks pretty clean. but looking at the video when saqlain is trying to tinker with his wrist position and rotation it looks like he is putting some extra spin which gives a feeling of a like kink. I do hope he remains clean.

Looking forward to the twin attack of Nauman and Sajid in the Zim tests. I do hope for Yasir to slot back in during the home tests and whenever there is a series in WI/England.

Sajid Khan 4/54 for KPK vs Northern in the QeA Final.

Karachi, 13 February 2022: Mardan-born off-spinner Sajid Khan has made rapid strides over the course of the last two years but his ascent to the highest level of cricket is a tale of relentless struggle, hard work, determination and a never-say-die attitude spread over two decades.

The 28-year-old made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in Harare last season and has already collected 18 wickets in his first four Tests.

The highlight of Sajid’s short Test career has been his heroics in the Mirpur Test against Bangladesh in December, the off-spinner took 12 wickets in the match including eight in the first innings to lead Pakistan’s innings and eight runs victory in the ICC World Test Championship fixture.

According to Sajid his cricketing story begins at the age of eight.

“My story begins from when I was eight years old. I have two elder brothers, one is a rickshaw driver the other runs a grocery shop. Only those without a father would know what a struggle it is. When I grew up and started college I used do to some odd sport related jobs like fixing bat handles and grips and making between PKR 4 to 500, I used to also sell cell phones to make some money that I could spend on purchasing cricket gear.

Despite his obvious promise and potential, Sajid failed to find a permanent slot in Peshawar sides to the sheer quality and depth that the first-class and Grade II squads especially as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regularly started unearthing players of international quality.

Sajid decided to try his luck in Dubai where he juggled between a work at the Dubai Airport and weekend cricket opportunities.

“After U18 cricket, I barely got a chance to play Grade II cricket because Peshawar had a quality side and I could not make my way through that is when I left for Dubai. I used to work at Dubai Airport for five days and play cricket two days in the week. I had a six months visa but I didn’t even stay for six months as my mother asked me to return.”

After returning from Dubai, Sajid finally made a long awaited breakthrough as Imran Khan Snr handed him perhaps the best cricket gift he could have hoped for at that stage of his career.

“I found an opportunity to appear in Grade II trials, I got selected and joined the camp. At the camp Imran Khan Snr saw me, at that time Imran had played a few Tests for Pakistan, he asked me if I had cricket shoes but I couldn’t say to him I didn’t. Imran realised that I didn’t have cricket shoes so he took out a pair of cricket spikes and handed them to me.

“My first match was for Peshawar against Wapda, with-in four overs I had taken six wickets and that is when my career took off. Once the domestic structure was revamped, I got an opportunity to play for the second XI and I scored 96 runs and took 13 wickets in a match against Balochistan. I was immediately picked for the first XI (first-class) and I played my first match against Balochistan and took eight wickets.

Sajid still has a long journey ahead of him and has big aspirations and dreams, he insists that hard work, perseverance and determination is what is required to succeed in cricket instead of a recommendation or source. He is a firm believer in letting your performance talk for you as he credits his mother for the turnaround in his life.

“People who claim that you can’t play cricket without any recommendation or source lie, I would say it is a total lie. If you work hard and stay determined you are rewarded, I have fought hard and struggled for 20 years and then only have I reached here without any recommendation or source. I only work hard and respect my elders, whatever I have achieved, I have achieved due to my mother’s unflinching support. I owe everything to her and even today I look up to her for support, guidance and prayers.”

Pakistan is all set to host Australia for the first time since 1998 and the historic series gets underway from March 4. The squads for both sides are out and teams are gearing up for the three-match Test series in the subcontinent.

Pakistan off-spinner Sajid Khan has been named in the 16-member squad for the Australia home Tests and while talking during a press conference, he opened up on his Shikhar Dhawan-like celebration. The Pakistan bowler stated that he is not copying Dhawan and he has been even warned twice for his celebration that way in first-class cricket.

Dhawan likes to use his thigh celebration every time he takes a catch on the field and has been doing it for a long time in international cricket. Talking about Sajid, he was seen doing the same kind of celebration recently.

"Everyone has their own style and people say that I copy Shikhar Dhawan’s celebration. I have been doing this celebration since school cricket. Just to bring this under your notice that I have been fined twice for this celebration in first-class cricket. Now everyone is appreciating this celebration," he said.

Having made his Test debut in 2021, Sajid has played four Tests for Pakistan and has picked up 18 wickets. His twelve-wicket match haul came against Bangladesh in Mirpur last year. Talking about his plans against Australia, Sajid revealed that he was ready to contribute in whatever way possible.

"If you see their [Australia] batting lineup they have world-class batter in the shape of Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and then comes their wicketkeeper Carey. My goal is to target every single one of them. Either I get the wicket of our fast bowlers, we need to bowl them out."

He added the importance of meetings with Saqlain Mushtaq in terms of getting ready for match scenarios. "Saqi Bhai [Saqlain] holds day-by-day meetings with us. He usually comes out in between scenario matches and guides us. And sometimes he calls us in his room separately to discuss things with us," Sajid added.

Sajid Khan Got The First One ☝

He is good but needs to be partnered with Yasir rather than Nauman on these pitches.

He was the best bowler today. He suffered due to lack of support from other bowlers. Bowling is about partnerships as well especially on docile pitches.

Will he retain his place in the playing XI tomorrow? Chances are a bit low in my view

I honestly don't know why he is facing the drop.

The stuck with Nauman despite him going entire tour of Bangladesh without a wicket. Australia is stacked with left-handers as well. We can over look one bad game.

Plus he potential replacement has what id say is a poor first class record. I hope Mehmood does well if he plays, but the lack of consistency is annoying,

Why would he be dropped? Only last series he was running through the batsmen

Pakistan cant pick and choose bowlers on a match by match basis Play him again as your no 1 spinner

I don’t rate him and I honestly think he very mediocre but he’s still comfortably better then zahid mehmood.

It would make zero sense to drop him.

He has been better than Nauman, so he should be given a longer rope.

Lovely bit of fielding from Sajid

surely Pak has better spinners in domestics. Hes not young either

I know the pitches are dead but we can already see the huge difference in quality when Sajid bowls. I am disappointed as I had high hopes.

I haven't completed given up on him though. I have said a million times, there is something about him.

His action is too front on for a off spinner. Don't think we will be seeing him much in Pakistan colours after this series.

Compared to previous Pakistani spinners like Ajmal, Abdur Rehman, and Yasir Shah, Sajid seems quite lightweight.

Then again, this Test series hasn't been great to bowlers. It has been dominated by batsmen mostly.

Didn't land it in the right areas often enough in Karachi. Too many freebies and not enough balls that tested the Aussie batters.

Him and Nauman won't scare too many batting line-ups.

Most of the spinners on show didnt have a great outing Theyve not really had the quality pitches to be judged on

i havnt seen a lot of him, but from what i have, it seems he is overly reliant on side spin and changes of pace, rather than any particular guile in flight. im guessing at domestic level where pitches might deteriorate he does a bit better, but top level batters dont struggle for side spin alone.

but lets be real here, he is pbly one of the better options pak have as a long form spinner, him and nauman have dominated domestic charts, but arent really very effective at international level. if there was another option it would have made sense to drop him, but apart from shadab i dont think anyone could lay a claim to the spot.

Don't we have any upcoming leggies?

This guy doesn't have enough mystery to trouble quality line ups.

no, follow domestic cricket and you'd realise how alarmingly short on talent pak is in the spin department. mystery is one things, even conventional guys like arshad khan, mohammad hussain, abdur rehman, etc would be automatic picks in the current team.

abrar ahmed is the only young player with any potential, but he needs maybe 10 or 15 more fc games before he might be ready.

I said last year that he was pretty average and then he took some wickets in BD. He isnt an average spinner, never mind a decent one.

I will give him the last test atleast then he has been given a decent chance.

What about Asif Afridi? He looked good in the PSL, I know that's different to test matches but he gave it a rip. Just looked at his 4 days stats, not that impressive. Guess he will only play international T20 cricket but age is not on his side.

Brother, you are only 80% ready until you have variation and doosra. Aus are not Bangladesh.

Big wicket for Sajid - brilliant catch by Babar Azam

Asif Afridi is another Nauman they all got rot in domestics because they might only had conventional spin but didnt have that extra skill required to bowl to international players...

Just like Sajid and Nauman spin are being negated so easily by Aussies in this series

We need better spin options. The one wicket Sajid got today was very lucky. Khawaja played a false shot and Babar took a brilliant catch.

Abdur Rehman was another conventional spinner but boy did he have the ability to be relentless and bowl all day. Also had a knack of taking wickets.

I hope he pulls some out of the bag because he is very lucky to be playing. If this guy is international quality, i retired too early

Poor chap a hard worker but his limitations as international cricketer Imagine a Pakistan Xi

Our fans have no insight.

I said during the BD series he's utterly average, he would bowl horrible pies every single over. And what do you know, he's found out this series.

As for his age, if he's 35 I am a teen again.

Sajid trying to earn his keep in the final innings of the series....

Sajid looking more assured than some of the top order batsmen in this team.

Its a shame that he cant bowl for toffee. When i said that after seeing him in FC that no way can he develop as a Test spinner with that action, people were confused. But he cant spin the ball sharply into the right handers and this is the end for him. Not good enough

He has been quite mediocre in his career apart from that 8-fer against Bangladesh.

Deserves to be dropped definitely (along with Nauman).

And 1000% ready to help win Pakistan against Zimbawe, Windies and other B-grade teams. He worked more on his moustache game than his spin. Lyon was class apart from him. I wonder what Saqlain is even doing.

Good enough for FC cricket in Pakistan , not an inch beyond that. Should never come close to national team , ever.

What an arrival, in the final of Champions One-Day Cup he stole the show proper and controlled lined spin, he has taken 2 wickets and conceded only 24 runs in his 10 overs.
Sajid Khan said during the innings break:

"The Panthers were a spin-heavy team, which is why I didn’t get a chance to play until the final. It’s not that I’m inexperienced—I’ve been playing since my Under-16 days and I captain my department side."

"But the mentor and management assured me I would get my opportunity. When I finally got my chance in the tournament's final, I proved my worth."

Sajid Khan secured the Player of the Final award (Champions One-Day Cup 2024)

Sajid Khan said in post-match ceremony:

"I was preparing for the Bangladesh series but my name wasn't included. Then I thought I would be included in the squad for England Tests but still, I wasn't selected. I am working hard to earn back my place in the Test side."

Sajid Khan stated during a local TV show that:

"The best captain is MS Dhoni. He is a very cool, calm and successful captain."

Sajid Khan brings his prime form to Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024, taking his 15th first-class five-wicket haul (5/52) for Peshawar against AJK on Day 1 of the third round.
