[VIDEOS] "I will leave no stone unturned in making myself worthy of national selection" : Azam Khan

What is it with these players , sharjeel and azam look like they put on weight, both came close to selection for pak too, surely that should motivate them to get into shape

The fact that iftikhar was traded for this guy just makes my blood boil....

for some1 whoes comment end reads "Bring back Umar Akmal", this is seriously contradictory n baseless post.

Azam should not be in team but then if u support Umar Akmals come back, u not be making any comments lol

Umar Akmal is fat, I agree…but, Azam Khan is 2 times the size of Umar Akmal.

Umar Akmal can get back into shape within 4-5 months, but for Azam Khan it’s going to take probably 3-4 years to lose all that fat whilst not losing muscle.

How different is Stirling to Azam in that respect?

FKWVs0LXsAAGkYw

^he has actually performed. Thats the difference.

Azam has been given many opportunities, but he has not performed reliably.

Stirling is about two stone lighter, played associate cricket for most of his life, and is 12 years older than Azam.

What Stirling does has no bearing on Azam Khan, they are two completely seperate discussions.

Stirling has a proven track record in international and domestic county cricket, when he started he was a lot smaller as well , if Azam was smashing it around like him I don't think people would care as much , but the problem is he is a very average player who is overweight and shouldn't be anywhere near the pak team right now

Amazing hitting by Azam

He has established his name in history for being the one to finally slay the beast that is Shahid Afridi.

He hit all his sixes against the spinners, didn't look all that comfortable against the pacers.

He did smack afridi and fluked it plus the boundaries are very short.

He aint a good batsmen. Couldnt hit the pacers got a few fours but he has not other shots...

Good innings but he still should had got more

Azam Khan:

"He [Moin] is always in a very tense mood whenever I am batting, but I don't know if he was still tense in the other dressing room but in the end, when you go inside the ropes, you are rivals"

"Literally, I never imagine I would play against Shahid Afridi - the legend of Pakistan - and to hit him for a couple of sixes was like a dream, it was always a dream to play against him so I am quite happy about it"

I didnt see the innings but if you are a good uncle who is trying to help a friend’s son, you could potentially bowl bad.

Weighing in the possibilities here. Shahid Afridi has never given 67 runs in 4 overs.

Afridi has injury problems and also he hasn't bowled in a long time I think.

Sarfraz could only dream of playing an Innings like that.He should be part of the t20 squad as a back up keeper batesman .

Good Innings today. Took Afridi totally apart with all those sixes.

Still quite a bit of improvement to be made but a good sign for him.

I wasn't quite sure what he was trying to do today.

It seemed like he was trying to look for singles and leaving it to Asif Ali to win the match against LQ.

Very strange innings.

Normal service resumes with Azam.

I don’t weigh potential with runs scorer but the way in which he scores those runs and the way in which he loses his wicket.

Azam doesn't tick any of the boxes I am afraid.

I am shocked that he is being picked in the first XI.

Same issues

Whatever people think, but any franchise choosing this unfit player as a keeper deserves to lose.

It was interesting to hear one of the commentators yesterday making some observations about Azam's wicket-keeping and how poor it was. Not only behind the stumps but how he was struggling to collect throws etc.

Seems to me like he's a forced wicket-keeper, one of those guys who isn't really a wicket-keeper but is trying his best to do the job.

Was Waqar one of them?

I found it odd how Waqar would give his glovework unnecessary praise at times.

He would highlight routine takes as exampels of top class wicket keeping.

2nd run out of PSL 7

I feel disgusted seeing him getting so many chances.

In fact I think there are at least 2 dozen passengers in the PSL. Replacing them going forward will only be a good thing for the quality of the league.

Needs to invest in better running boots to not get out so much.

The ability to hit sixes is not the only skill in cricket.

No respite for the leg-spinner today:

Great batting by him today. With five changes taking place and the team being weak, this guy was able to take responsibility

He was let down by his batting partners today. Too many dot balls by Asif Ali and Faheem.

More support from his batting partners and IU would have won this match.

He did everything in his powers - excellent innings that.

Type of players we need in the Pakistan ranks not nurdlers. Lads a clean striker of a cricket ball.. ideal for t20 cricket

Would take Muhammad Haris over him any day. We cannot have a player of his fitness playing for the national team at all.

Good innings.

He still needs to loose some stones before being taken seriously for international level

A star in the making, the superstar we have all been waiting for. Hopefully this innings is a start of a story of a bear who sleeps only to be awaken when the chips are down. Azam Khan might be the answer we are looking for against the Australians. Nothing would make me more proud in seeing this shiny star representing our beloved land full of attitude and aggression! GO Azam Khan GO! Hit them with a pull shot, a cover drive and a cut shot!

Fat man. Would take Muhammad Haris over him any day. We cannot have a player of his fitness playing for the national team at all.

Spot on

A guy with a sub 20 average with a poor SR makes runs finally. I suppose its the game of natural averages, he has to score some time.

I dont know man, it just seems a scam when this guy flukes a performance. I am yet to see him murder any good bowling attacks.

He will need to do a lot more to get my vote I am afraid.

Is fitness still an issue though?

I mean will he get found out at the highest level due to his lack of fitness?

He isn't getting in the team ahead of Rizwan as a keeper. In the field he will be a walking disaster and the mocking someone his size will get in Australia would be brutal.

Even if that's all fine his running between the wickets is pretty poor. He's been good in one innings after every 5-6 innings. His mediocre average proves that

If he can keep reasonably well I’d have him keep in place of Rizwan and bat Azam at 5.

Rizwan will save us more runs in the field in a T20 game than his utility behind the stumps.

Considering he is a wicket keeper and
he doesn't have to be on the outfield, trying to run and stop those boundaries. I feel ill accept him being insanely and unnecessarily fat.

He is generally pretty agile behind the stumps and has lightening hand eye coordination with the bat.

A middle order batsman who can destroy a leggie will be in my team any day. Waiting to see the contest between him and Rashid khan day after tomorrow. If he smacks him for few sixes too, then he is too good to ignore.

People laughed at me when I said this guy is the real deal in t20s. It’s Pakistans lost not having him in the squad he’s an asset in any team especially on them big Australian boundaries he will do well. I have an eye for talent and not everyone can have virat Kohli type fitness. He’s big boned player who crushes the ball. Hope fans see sense how good a talent this guy is.

We only need him to fire every other game and he can win you a knockout game easily

Yes we can see eye for talent with Babar being replaced by Sharjeel according to you. No need to elaborate further. People still laugh at your suggestion.

He's not going to get pies by spinners or bowling machine deliveries bowled to him by pacers at international level.

Good innings yesterday but unless he loses the kilos he's not going to have a positive contribution to the team.

Couldn't agree more. If selected he could be our Gilchrist.

He is a great prospect but he really needs to lose some weight. At least, don't be obese. I don't understand why he can't lose weight. I can see no improvement at all. Looks like he have accepted his overweight.

One innings in a losing cause doesnt change anything Hes not good enough or fit enough for intnl cricket

One innings in psl wont change that fact

I dont have any issue with him playing psl anymore. If he is a t20 specialist no issue. However, i do have an issue if he gets international selection based on that fitness.

But for domestic and especially in t20, he is not a bad guy. He bats much better than alot of the guys, ever since he has gained confidence he seems good.

He seems to target slow medium pacers and spinners and has mostly run away from facing good quicks..
If he can improve his batting against quality quicks, I say he can play for Pakisan as a pure batsman.
He made good runs today.

He can have some occasional success at domestic level but will be a failure at international level due to his fitness problem.

It’s shameful to even look at his shape.

I mean, if cricket is your passion and/or bread and butter then how weak mentally you are, is displayed by your shape.
Look at Ben Cutting for example. Can’t he hog on food and look like Humpty Dumpty? But looks at his fitness shape and agility.

How freaking hard is it to lose weight for a YOUNG sportsman?
This is just ridiculous!
I don’t think he will last long with this shape even in domestic cricket.

9 of 10 modern day T20 batsmen can play like him where they can hit in a one off innings in the extra small boundaries - there is nothing special about his batting talent - and everything is wrong in his shape for a sportsman - unless of course if he was playing somo wrestling.

This shot was remarkable

"I will leave no stone unturned in making myself worthy of national selection" : Azam Khan

Azam Khan gives the ball a serious, almighty, thump! Wow! Really impressed with his hitting ability. He is a dangerous striker of the ball, but sadly with that fitness, he´ll be found out soon if he makes it to international cricket. Bowlers at the highest level are a lot more smarter.

Azam and Sharjeel are good role models for the fat nation, watching the two side by side the other day was quiet the spectacle. Two genuine super heavyweights on the field.

Where are the other "big boned" cricketers then?

You could make a good living discovering them with your eye for talent. Seems the world is missing out. Every country should have an Azam Khan.

Well one of our greatest batsmen of all time inzi ul haq was big boned what have you got to say about that. Well who cared he destroyed attacks around the world. Like I said Azam is not a nurdler he’s a serial hitter of a cricket ball. Just admit it you have no cricket pedigree like I do. 4 decades I have followed cricket you will see this man come good.

Fully agree. I have been following like a maniac for the same length of time and I believe he will come good. Only if as a nation we had more tolerance and empathy, some of these guys like U Akmal, Shehzad and some others would be superstars.

Inzi was not big boned :)) and if you actually watched cricket you'd know this from when he lost weight around 2003. Inzi was fat, overweight and completely unfit. He was literally lazy.

Inzamam is a one in a million cricketer and comparing him to Azam is an insult.

That was a top Innings played both sides of the wicket and took responsibility haters can keep hating :)

“Azam Khan should either quit cricket or else transform himself into a cricketer,” Aaqib Javed!

Bro.. what! using Inzi and Azam in the same sentence is an insult to the great Inzi. Also, batting wise and even fitness wise, Azam is no where close to Inzi.

As if Aaqib was some great cricketer. He was no body in test and pretty average in ODI.
