Speaking about his government's smart lockdown policy, the prime minister said that Pakistan opened up the agriculture and construction sector.

He credited the government's Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme and other policies towards steering Pakistan out of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the prime minister cautioned that Pakistan was not yet "out of the woods".

"We are not yet out of the woods like no country is out of the woods yet," he said, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The prime minister spoke out against the flow of illicit financing from developing countries to the developed ones. He said that these "stolen resources" that flow from the developing countries to others weakens the foreign exchange and promotes property.

"If this policy continues, it will accentuate the difference between the rich and the poor," said PM Imran, adding that rich countries lacked the political will to "curb this criminal activity".

"Eventually, it will spark off a bigger global crisis, a far bigger global crisis than the migration crisis poses," he said, adding that rich states cannot talk about human rights when they provide protection to money launderers and their ill-gotten wealth.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that there are robust anti-money laundering regimes, adding that he calls upon the UN "to take the lead in efforts to build a global framework, to stem the illicit financial flows and ensure speedy repatriation of stolen wealth".

"It is important to realise that the aid that flows from the rich to the developing world is minuscule compared to the massive outflows by our corrupt elites," he said.

PM Imran calls for world to observe an international day to combat Islamophobia
The premier also touched upon the issue of Islamophobia during his speech, condemning the rising incidences of the burning of the Holy Quran and the publication of blasphemous material against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

"Muslims continue to be targeted with impunity in many countries," he said. "Our shrines are being destroyed, our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) insulted, the Holy Quran burnt, and all this in the name of freedom of speech."

The prime minister said that Pakistan's contribution to carbon emission was very low when one considered many countries in the world but it was one of the countries most affected by the climate change.

The prime minister said that his government has launched an "extremely ambitious" plan to combat climate change by planting 10 billion trees over the next three years.

He called on world leaders to abide by the provisions of the Paris agreement on climate change. "Commitments made through the Paris agreement must be fulfilled, in particular, the commitment to mobilise $100billion annually as climate finance," he said.

The general debate of the 193-member assembly, which is traditionally a high-profile annual UN event, opened on September 22. However, this year it is a slimmed-down affair, with world leaders staying away from New York because of the coronavirus pandemic.

They will be contributing set-piece speeches via video link.

“I expect that the prime minister will once again raise the cause of the Kashmiri people for self-determination and aazadi [freedom] from Indian oppression," Pakistan’s ambassador to the UN Munir Akram told APP.

Akram added that the prime minister would also talk about Pakistan’s facilitation of and hopes for the peace process in Afghanistan, its successful response to the coronavirus crisis, debt relief for developing countries, and other international issues in his wide-ranging address.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to speak on September 26, a day after PM Imran's address.

India on Friday criticised Pakistan for its poor record in providing safety and security to religious and ethnic minorities during the 45th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Senthil Kumar, first secretary Permanent Mission of India, while exercising the country’s right to reply said that India does not need to take lessons on human rights from a nation that nurtures terrorism and is well-known around the world for being the epicentre of terrorism, news agency ANI reported.

“Before preaching to others Pakistan must remember that terrorism is the worst form of human rights abuse and crime against humanity. The world doesn’t need lessons on human rights from a country which has been known as nursery and epicentre of terrorism,” he said, according to ANI.

‘Pakistan exploited our youth, ordered killing of fellow Kashmiris’: EFSAS director

Kumar also highlighted the atrocities Balochs have to suffer in Pakistan. “Enforced disappearances, state violence and forced mass displacements, harassment, extrajudicial killings, army operations, torture, kill-and-dumps, torture camps, detention centres, military camps are regular features in Balochistan,” he said, according to ANI.

The Free Balochistan Movement (FBM) issued a statement on September 20, saying Pakistan continues to promote unhindered religious extremism in occupied areas of Balochistan, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to ANI.

The organisation’s spokesperson Gamshaad Baloch said that on September 13, the armed wing of Jamaat-e-Islami attacked Baloch and Sindhi human rights activists who were peacefully protesting against the disappearances of their loved ones. FBM believes that Pakistan has adopted the policy of religious extremism, ANI reported citing its statement said.

Kumar also pointed out that in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, the neighbouring country has driven the original Kashmiris out. He said Pakistan is attempting to change the demography of the region by driving its real inhabitants out.

He also pointed out that since 1947 the percentage of minorities has decreased in Pakistan. He said, “It’s a matter of great concern that the population of religious minorities in Pak which was 23% in 1947 has reduced to an insignificant number. In PoK, Pakistan has affected demographic change by reducing & driving real Kashmiris out.”

In other news, IK’s BFF China is not obliterating the identity of Muslim Uyghurs but obliterating Muslim Uyghurs by forced sterilizations and abortions.

Notice here, No Indian nor Indian government ever try to defend or argue against Indian government and Army killing and rape of Kashmiri Muslims.

It is always, look what this and that doing. Tells you a lot about them.

What is wrong with Indians settling in Indian Kashmir? How can you obliterate Kashmir identity? The only thing getting obliterated is the terrorism in Kashmir.

The occupying state has been trying for years but the Kashmriis are resiliant and brave not cowardly like the BJP and the Indian army.

You can only truly change people by chaning their mind, India is going in the opposite direction, making them more resiliant and resistance to brutality.

If Indian army is cowardly, then Kashmiris have nothing to fear.

Indian Kashmir belongs to India. Kashmiris are not getting ethnically cleansed like you are claiming.

How do you think Islam came to Kashmir? The Pandits got impressed and converted to Islam?

Indian occupied Kashmir belongs to Kashmiri, only.

Probably some Pandits did and some didn't, let's not make it about avenges, currently, an undeniable facts, hence no Indian government official ever rebute Kashmiri narrative, which is supported by Pakistan, how Indian army is killing and raping Muslims of Kashmir, and trying to demographic change, an illegal act, it is always either about Pakistani minorities or look what China is doing.

Kashmir issue is about Hindu vs Muslim. Religious separatist movements will never gain international support.

So, this was his usual digression. He had plenty of time to prepare his answer as it was well known that PM would discuss Kashmir situation.
All the time that he had to prepare for his answer he should have better clarified and narrated actual political , social and human rights developments in Kashmir.
By all means, criticise Pakistan but at least tell the world a little about the heaven that Indian occupation has created in Kashmir.
The reply is nothing more than the tacit admission of the abysmal situation in Indian occupied Kashmir.

UNITED NATIONS: Prime Minister Imran Khan used his address to the UN General Assembly on Friday to warn the international community that India was planning another “ill-conceived misadventure” in a “nuclearised environment,” but Pakistan was ready to “fight for its freedom to the end”.

The prime minister also urged the UN Security Council to play its role in preventing this dangerous conflict, which could jeopardise the entire region.

“In order to divert attention from its illegal actions and atrocities in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, India is playing a dangerous game of upping the military ante against Pakistan in a nuclearised strategic environment,” he said.

Mr Khan informed the world body that despite constant Indian provocations and ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary targeting innocent civilians, Pakistan had exercised maximum restraint. “We have consistently sensitised the world community about a ‘false flag’ operation and another ill-conceived misadventure by India,” he added.

The prime minister said that while his parents were born in the colonial India, his was the first generation that grew up in an independent Pakistan. “I want to make it clear that any attempt by the fascist totalitarian RSS-led Indian government to aggress against Pakistan will be met by a nation that will fight for its freedom to the end,” he declared.

“The Security Council must prevent a disastrous conflict and secure the implementation of its own resolutions [on Kashmir] as it did in the case of East Timor,” he said.

The warning follows heightened tensions between the two South Asian neighbours that began last year when India bombed an abandoned school in Balakot. India followed up the bombing with more aggressions that ended only when Pakistan brought down an Indian aircraft and arrested its pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Pakistan returned the pilot on March 1, 2019 as a gesture of peace, but on Aug 5 that year India illegally annexed held Kashmir and since then it has been constantly firing across the LoC.

Referring to these incidents, Prime Minister Khan told the 75th UNGA that there would be no durable peace and stability in South Asia until the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was resolved on the basis of international legitimacy.

“Kashmir has been rightly described as a ‘nuclear flash point’,” he said, noting that the UN Security Council has considered the situation in Jammu and Kashmir three times in the past year.

“It must take appropriate enforcement actions. It must also take steps to protect the Kashmiris from an impending genocide by India,” he said.

Pakistan, he said, had always called for a peaceful solution. But for peace to prevail, India must rescind the measures it has instituted since Aug 5, 2019, end its military siege and other gross human rights violations, and agree to resolve the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people, he added.

Afghan peace

The prime minister said Pakistan’s desire for peace in the region was also manifest in its efforts to promote a political solution in Afghanistan. “I have consistently maintained over the past two decades that there is no military solution to the decades-old-conflict in Afghanistan,” he said. “The only way forward was and is a political settlement which involves the full spectrum of Afghanistan’s political actors.”

Mr Khan pointed out that Pakistan “fully facilitated the process” that culminated in the US-Taliban peace agreement on Feb 29 this year. “Pakistan is deeply gratified that it has fulfilled its part of the responsibility. The Afghan leaders must now seize this historic opportunity to achieve reconciliation and restore peace in their war-torn country,” he said.

The prime minister urged Afghan leaders to use the intra-Afghan negotiations, which commenced on Sept 12, to work out an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political settlement. The process must be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned, and without any interference or outside influence, he added.

Mr Khan also emphasised the need for early return of Afghan refugees which, he said, must be a part of the political solution.

In an indirect reference to India, the prime minister warned: “After almost two decades of war, it is imperative not to allow ‘spoilers’ within and outside Afghanistan — to subvert the peace process.”

Peace and stability in Afghanistan, he said, would open new opportunities for development and regional connectivity and new vistas of cooperation could emerge with Central Asia and beyond.

Attacks on Muslims

The prime minister also urged the international community to avoid blaming Muslims for every bad incident in the world, to stop ridiculing their religious personalities and not to desecrate their religious places.

He noted that such attacks on Muslims were happening across the globe, but said there’s one country that had institutionalised it, India. “The one country in the world today, where the state sponsors Islamophobia, is India. The reason behind this is RSS ideology that unfortunately rules India today,” he said.

Giving the background of hate against Muslims in India, he said this extremist ideology was founded in the 1920s when RSS founding fathers, inspired by the Nazis, adopted the concepts of racial purity and supremacy.

“While the Nazis hate was directed at the Jews, the RSS directs it towards the Muslims and to a lesser extent towards the Christians. They believe that India is exclusive for Hindus and others are not equal citizens. The secularism of Gandhi and Nehru has been replaced by the dream of creating a Hindu Rashtra by subjugating, even cleansing India’s 200 million Muslims and other minorities,” he added.

Mr Khan noted that in Assam around two million Muslims were marked out for discrimination and many were now confined to large concentration camps. “Muslims were falsely blamed, vilified and victimised for spreading the Corona virus. They were denied medical attention on many occasions, their businesses were boycotted. Cow vigilantes attack and kill Muslims with impunity. Last February, Muslims faced targeted killings, with police complicity in New Delhi,” he said.

Noting that mass registrations in the past have often been a precursor to genocide, such as the Nuremburg Laws in Germany in 1935 and then in 1982 in Myanmar, the prime minister urged the international community to put an end to this practice.

He warned that the Hindutva ideology was set to marginalise almost 300 million human beings — Muslims, Christians and Sikhs. “This is unprecedented in history and does not augur well for the future of India as we all know that marginalisation of human beings leads to radicalisation,” he added.

The prime minister reminded world leaders that for over 72 years, India had illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir against the wishes of the Kashmiri people, and in blatant violation of the resolutions of the Security Council and its own commitments.

He pointed out that on Aug 5 last year, India illegally and unilaterally sought to change the status of the occupied territories and deployed additional troops, bringing the total number to 900,000, to impose a military siege on eight million Kashmiris.

He also highlighted the grave human rights violations India has committed in Kashmir since August last year: incarceration of Kashmiri leaders; abduction of about 13,000 Kashmiri youth; torturing; imposition of day and night curfew, and total communications blackout. He also mentioned the use of brute force by Indian occupation forces, including using pellet guns against peaceful protestors, imposing collective punishments, destruction of entire neighbourhoods, and extra-judicial murder of hundreds of innocent Kashmiris.

He noted that Indian forces even refused to hand over their bodies for burial while the Kashmiri media was prevented from reporting these atrocities. “All of this is well documented in the reports of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, communications from the Special Rapporteurs of Human Rights Council, statements from human rights and civil society organisations,” the prime minister said.

The international community, he said, must investigate these grave violations and prosecute the Indian civil and military personnel involved in state terrorism and serious crimes against humanity, being perpetrated, with complete impunity.

Mr Khan said that the objective of this brutal campaign was to impose what the RSS-BJP regime has itself called the ‘Final Solution’ for Jammu and Kashmir.

“This is an attempt to obliterate the distinct Kashmiri identity in order to affect the outcome of a plebiscite envisaged in the UN Security Council resolutions,” he said.

He told the world body that the brave Kashmiri people would never submit to Indian occupation and oppression. “Their struggle is indigenous. They are fighting for a just cause and generation after generations have laid down their lives to rid themselves of Indian occupation.”

He said the government and people of Pakistan were committed to standing by and supporting their Kashmiri brothers and sisters in their legitimate struggle for self-determination.

If we truly believe in a distinct Kashmiri identity, why don’t we make “Azad” Kashmir an independent, sovereign state and show India how it is done?

If an independent Azad Kashmir is prosperous, it will add credence to J&K’s freedom movement and it will give them something to fight for.

If an independent Azad Kashmir is prosperous, it will add credence to J&K’s freedom movement and it will give them something to fight for.

Start a thread on it - interesting topic.

Pakistan has said that the territory of Jammu and Kashmir is not a part of the Indian state — it has never been, nor will it ever be — and that the Indian government is responsible for "the worst form of state terrorism" against the oppressed people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan Mission’s First Secretary Muhammad Zulqarnain Chheena, while delivering the first Right of Reply during the 75th session of the United National General Assembly, made that remark.

He also said that occupied Jammu and Kashmir "will be free one day".

“Jammu & Kashmir is not a part of India: it never was and it never will be. The state of Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory as decreed by the Security Council,” said the diplomat.

The Kashmir dispute, he said, will be settled as per the will of the people as expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations.

He said the Kashmiri people have a legitimate right to resist the Indian occupation by all means at their disposal.

The Pakistani diplomat said the Kashmiris’ just struggle cannot be denigrated or described as terrorism. It is the occupying state which is guilty of terrorism against the occupied people, he pointed out.

"The Indian right of reply was another shameful attempt to deflect the attention from the real issues. India, however, will not be able to escape accountability for its crimes,” said Chheena.

Indian UN Mission's First Secretary Mijito Vinito had said on Friday: "The leader of Pakistan [PM Imran Khan] today called for those who incite hate and violence to be outlawed. But, as he went on, we were left wondering, was he referring to himself?"

Vinito had walked out during Khan’s speech at the UN forum.

"Let me assert here loud and clear. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. The rules and legislations brought in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are strictly internal affairs of India," the Indian diplomat had claimed.

Exercising its right of reply to India's reply, Chheena highlighted the role of the BJP and RSS, saying the Shaheen Bagh riots in Delhi earlier this year exposed the Hindutva ideology.

The RSS-BJP were changing India's history to obliterate the thousand years of Muslim civilisation and culture, he said.

"The charred streets of Delhi not only expose the Hindutva ideology in all its ‘intolerant glory’, they also manifested the trusted method that #Hinduextremists have resorted to — from Gujarat in 2002 to Delhi in 2020, to address the 'Muslim Menace',” he tweeted an excerpt of his speech.

"It’s no secret that the architects of the Gujarat massacre were also the masterminds of the Delhi pogrom. Just like the victims of Gujarat, the victims of Delhi will no doubt search in vain for justice in this new bastion of fascism.”

Underlining the oppression of India in Indian occupied Kashmir, the Pakistani diplomat said the Kashmiri people have been resolutely facing India’s state terrorism, noting that over 70,000 Kashmiri people have been martyred under Indian occupation.

Moreover, he said, India knows a lot about terrorism, as it has used terrorism against each of its neighbours, its people and against the innocent people of the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistani diplomat underlined that India is actively involved in orchestrating, financing and providing logistical support to terrorist organisations like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and the Jamaat-ul-Ahraar to target Pakistan from across the border.

“Indian has hired and organised criminal groups located at our western borders to conduct terrorist attacks in Pakistan, especially to disrupt the development of the western and southern regions of my country.”

Making a mention of the Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, captured by Pakistan, the first secretary said the Indian intelligence agent had confessed that he was organising and supporting these criminal groups to perpetrate terrorism in Pakistan.

Pakistan and our entire region, he continued, faces Hindutva terrorism as well.

He said the BJP and RSS extremists continue to espouse the fiction of Akhand Baharat [or Greater India] which represents their desire for a unified sub-continent dominated by the Hindu religion where minorities are either converted to Hinduism or become second-class citizens.

If we truly believe in a distinct Kashmiri identity, why don’t we make “Azad” Kashmir an independent, sovereign state and show India how it is done?

If an independent Azad Kashmir is prosperous, it will add credence to J&K’s freedom movement and it will give them something to fight for.

Sounds good on paper but the problem is that Indian claims Azad Kashmir as their territory so if Pakistan decides to let Azad Kashmir be an independent state and withdraws its army, India would likely just move their troops in and occupy the place.

Do you think a Kashmir only army can repel an Indian invasion?

I think many people don't understand what freedom means. To be free means to have the dignity of deciding for yourself.

What a deluded man! Pay attention to your country first. Every day, Pakistanis are being raped and minorities being gunned down and yet this person gives lectures to India over its poor human rights record. An absolute failed leader.

Apri manjay tallay daang pero!

We claim to have the strongest military in South Asia. Azad Kashmir is a small territory. I am sure we can provide them with enough personnel and ammunition to resist Indian advances.

It's because we have the Mir Sadiq's amongst us that he has to do this.

In a speech to the United Nations, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called India’s Hindu-nationalist government a sponsor of hatred and prejudice against Islam, while denouncing its moves to cement control of Muslim-majority Kashmir.

Addressing the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on Friday, Khan said Islamophobia prevails in India today and threatens the nearly 200 million Muslims who live there.

“The one country in the world today where, I am sad to say, the state sponsors Islamophobia, is India. The reason behind this is RSS ideology that unfortunately rules India today,” Khan said in a recorded speech to the UNGA, which is being held virtually amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“They believe that India is exclusive to Hindus and others are not equal citizens.”

Pakistan PM has frequently criticised the decision by the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi last August to strip Jammu and Kashmir of its statehood, scrap its separate constitution and remove inherited protections on land and jobs.

India’s security clampdown sparked protests, and UN-appointed independent experts have called on the Indian government to take urgent action.

India accuses Pakistan of arming and training rebels fighting for Kashmir’s independence from India. Pakistan denies the charge and says it offers only diplomatic and moral support to the rebels.

The Kashmir region is split between India and Pakistan, which have fought two wars over the territory while claiming the region in its entirety.

“There will be no durable peace and stability in South Asia until the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is resolved on the basis of international legitimacy,” Khan said, calling for a peaceful solution and a rescinding of India’s August 5 move.

Residents of the heavily militarised Indian-administered Kashmir say security forces have arrested thousands of young men, raided people’s homes, inflicted beatings and electric shocks, and threatened to take away and marry their female relatives.

Thousands of protesters over the past year have been wounded in pellet-gun attacks, including hundreds blinded in one or both eyes.

For seven months, until March, the area was under a communications blackout with social media and internet access banned.

“The international community must investigate these grave violations and prosecute the Indian civil and military personnel involved in state terrorism and serious crimes against humanity.”

Khan, as he did in his speech before the world body last year, also condemned the targeting of Muslims in many countries and provocations and incitement “in the name of free speech”.

“Incidents in Europe, including republication of blasphemous sketches by Charlie Hebdo, are recent examples,” he said.

The French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo reprinted the Prophet Mohammed caricatures this month that were first published in 2015.

It’s been one year since the Kashmiri occupation and Imran has done nothing but say the same thing again and again. If he’s really serious about the issue he needs to take some bold steps. I’m sure Kashmiris will support Pakistan from the other side. It’s now or never.

What bold steps would you suggest?

We have waged multiple wars on Kashmir and got nothing but humiliation.

Imran is a broken record because passing statements is all that Pakistan can do on this issue.

Nearly every country has rubbished our narrative on Kashmir and reminded us of standing and credibility in international politics.

Please understand geopolitics before referring to take some bold steps. Imran Khan would be absolutely stupid to take any aggresive steps at the moment when everything is going in his favour. India for decades had abled to dominate international arena regarding Kashmir issue because they had not let topic of Kashmir be internationalized. But now due to stupidity of BJP and Modi's irrational drive to win election mandate at any cost, Kashmir now is internationalized in world summit. According to many veteran Indian journalists( the really good ones who had followed geopolitics for ages) this will depict only bad news for India.

People are taking notice about happenings of Kashmir, their struggle, their oppression under India all are being scrutinized in International media. And as a result, Kashmiris are gaining supports and sympathies. On the other hand, India is loosing her progressive and positive images. According to those Indian journalists nothing worse could happen for India.

This will have long term effects on India on world stages. Like in case of full blown war aganist China or Pakistan (God forbid) they will have hard time to garner supports from other countries other than US. India would find hard time to bring foreign investors from other developed countries, and therefore economic revival would become even slower than now it is. etc.

Pakistan will have favourable condition regarding this issue in the long term internationally. So Imran Khan should continue the favourable status que as it is now.

Zulm aur jabar ki jitni bi intiha ho , aakhir mai zaalim apne ghutnu pe aa hi jata hai. India can only flex their muscles against poor Kashmiris whist getting their ***** whipped by China every single day.

India keeps on talking about “terrorism” from pakistan to divert this humanity issue in Kashmir. What terrorism? It is both the armies on LOC fighting. What terrorism? It is the local Kashmir’s in indian occupied Kashmir who are being oppressed and take arms against 0.9 million Indian troops in the valley. So once again, what terrorism? The only terrorist is the indian occupational forces in Kashmir, who don’t even spare kashmiri kids and babies.

Zulm aur jabar ki jitni bi intiha ho , aakhir mai zaalim apne ghutnu pe aa hi jata hai. India can only flex their muscles against poor Kashmiris whist getting their ***** whipped by China every single day.

Unfortunate reality of the real world. The more powerful takes advantage of the less powerful. China whips India's rear end, India whips Kashmiris' rear end. We should fight against both oppressions.

There was once a time when India and pakistan were put in the same sentence.

Now is the time when India and China are put together in same sentence.

SO India being embarrassed by China is your definition of being a superpower?

SO India being embarrassed by China is your definition of being a superpower?

Embarrassed is subjective in nature. But when your clash starts with big guns on the field, it means you are becoming force to reckon unlike previous occasions where opponent was Pakistan. It just shows that, in most aspects, India has surpassed Pakistan and is en route to challenge the most powerful countries as of now.

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

The irony is, at the end of the day, I can feel proud that India is even with its all short comings, is independent and standing on its own feet while you had to bring China because even inside your mind, Pakistan didn't yield that confidence to utter those same words.

Pakistan and India have clashed many times, the recent one a bit more embarrassing for India - does that mean Pakistan is a superpower too?

Think this superpower thing has got in the heads of a few in India. You have poverty of the type people cannot even imagine.

Lets keep things in perspective.

In other news, IK’s BFF China is not obliterating the identity of Muslim Uyghurs but obliterating Muslim Uyghurs by forced sterilizations and abortions.
Yes they are wrong too obv. Good to see you make a good comparison

A nation is never one dimensional.

Just because someone is concentrating on his wife, it doesn't necessarily mean that he is neglecting the responsibility of a brother towards his sister also.

Super power and poverty aren't exclusive to each other.

A nation is a multi dimensional entity where each layer can exist at a different state and that's OK because absolute equality is a myth.

You can't eradicate poverty from earth. There will be always the rich and the poor.

But just because a nation is going towards transition in order to form a strong contender, that doesn't mean it is neglecting its weaker sections also.

One should go through social schemes from the gov to check exactly how the plans are taking shape.

Yes they are wrong too obv. Good to see you make a good comparison

It is not a comparison, "obliterating" an identity (which is not happening in Kashmir as there are no "reeducation camps" there) is different from obliterating the entire people.

Isn’t India planning on flooding Kashmir with people from all over india? In fact we had an Indian poster bragging how soon Kashmir will be taken over by people from Bihar and other parts of India. That’s pretty clearly an attempt to distort the Kashmiri identity.

As for the China thing , obviously what they are doing is evil as well.

It is no secret what the HM’s plan is. They’ve issued over a million residence permits already. There are only 8 million Kashmiris in the valley, and they will have no difficulty in finding 10 million or so RSS types who would be willing to flood into the valley as settlers. They’ve already appropriated land for settlements.

These UNGA speeches are necessary, because we cannot not bring it up. They’re just not likely to suffice, because Might is Right. The world will not act in spite of all our protestations, nor will the HM stop.

Imran KHan's speech at the UNGP was a good one however, on aspects of Kashmir and Islamophobia, like last year, he becomes a laughing stock. A few points on his speech :

1. By connotation, he argues that Kashmiri Muslims cannot coalesce and live with mainland India, and hence stems the demand for freedom. If that is the case, how 300 million Indian Muslims live and co-exist with rest populace? By declaring that Kashmiri Muslims cannot live with Indians, what essentially he is conveying is that Muslims cannot live with the rest, and Ummah is an apex and overriding aspect of Muslim identity. A serious and detrimental precedent against mainland Muslim population of India.

2. What the then Pakistan did in 1971 to its own subject in East Pakistan remotely comparable to Kashmir civil war in India? Carnage in East Pakistan is a textbook example of true ethnic cleansing being performed by the state.

3. Mr. Khan says that India's ultimate intention is ethnic cleansing of Muslims specifically and others in general (corollary of Hindu Racial Supremacy). Juvenility is the host here. Has he forgotten that if today India is nuclear power state and launching satellite after satellites into space, one of the biggest reasons is a Muslim : APJ Abdul Kalam (along with Homi Bhabha - a Parsi), a man whose reverence goes much beyond Gandhi, Nehru and many taken together. India ushered gigantic economic reforms in 1991, which catapulted its economic fortunes, because of a Sikh (MMS), who later became PM of India for 10 years. The man who was at the forefront of 1971 Indo-Pak War was a Parsi, Field Marshal Manekshaw.
Sometime back, Muslim industrialist Azim Premji (one of the richest Indian) donated billions of dollars as charity to express his gratitude for what this country and its people gave to him. The face of bollywood is synonymous with three Khans. Khan questioning India about minority rights is like a pot calling the kettle black.

4. Mention a single non-muslim who has held any such apex position in Pakistan? Recall how in recent years an Ahmadiya economist was booted out by Khan & Co on religious ground just for the sake of pampering radical mullahs. Mr. Khan is propogating the 'State of Medina' lowdowns when Hindu & Sikhs are being systematically converted day after day under his nose. Can Mr. Khan throw light on the kind of advertisement given for sanitation jobs in Pakistan, on the systematic persecution of Shias in his country, which recently culminated to a mass anti-Shia protests across the length and breath of Pakistan? And if he has forgotten everything, next time when he renews his Pakistani passport, witness how Ahmadis are publicly shamed. Attacks on Hazaras come as complimentary to above mainstream bigotry.

5. What China is doing to its million Uighur Muslim populace is a formal detention, incarceration and an inhumane treatment. And every thing for what - to exterminate its Muslim identity. Even their official statement came on this saying "Islam is a disease'. Recent reports by international news agencies such as New York Times, Guardian etc clearly vouch presence of at-least 380 detention centers for Uighur Muslims along with mosques and place of worship being razed off. Why doesn't he or for that matter anyone from pakistan raise a voice against this? He speaks for Palestine but not for Yemenis. He speaks for Kashmiris but not for Uighurs. Do you know why? Because when money talks nobody checks the grammar.

To sum it up, Mr. Khan speaking of minority rights and inclusivity is like Poonam Pandey championing the case against wardrobe malfunction.

Lol what kind of dumb logic is this? :inti

Where was Khan’s voice when the demographics of Gilgit-Baltistan were artificially changed? Is the distinct Kashmiri Shia identity of G-B not worth caring about?

If India manages to get itself do well tech and economic wise INTL issues won't matter.. similar to China. Why do you think India wants Arabs and USA-Europe to invest in India since they will have something to lose as well.

Another aspect is you are assuming in 15 years Kashmir would remain Kashmir valley of 1987, India(GOI) are basically changing the demographics .. separating the vallye from the state has already changed how it would be in next 30 years.

While IK might be right in his political games, just giving an opposing view to your argument.

They are not getting residence permits. They are merely being issued with domicile certificates that attest that the holder has lived in a place for a period of time. Most of the people receiving them are non-Kashmiris who have been living in Kashmir for years, who could not get domicile certificates under Article 370.

And pray, where did you come up with the 1 million figure? Any (reliable) source for that?

Mass migrations have been happening between Indian states for a long time. Yet no state or province has lost its cultural identity. The migrants usually tend to assimilate within the local culture with time. Anyone arguing that Kashmir will lose its cultural identity due to other Indians settling there is completely clueless about India. If that argument was true, the whole of India should have become like UP and Bihar, two states that are the sources of the most internal migrants in India. It has not happened and never will.

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations General Assembly has approved a Pakistan-sponsored resolution that reaffirms the right to self-determination for peoples subjected to colonial, foreign and alien occupation.

The 193-member body adopted the resolution by consensus on Wednesday afternoon when it also considered other human rights issues.

The resolution — “Universal realisation of the right of peoples to self-determination” — clearly stating that self-determination is a fundamental right of all peoples — including those under colonial, foreign and alien domination.

The resolution, which was co-sponsored by 71 countries, observed that “self-determination is a fundamental condition for the guarantee and observance of human rights”.

Akram says the world body reaffirmed Islamabad’s legal, political and moral case in support of Kashmiris

Declaring its firm opposition to foreign military intervention, aggression and occupation, the Assembly called on “those States responsible to cease immediately their military intervention in and occupation of foreign countries and territories”.

The world body also “deplored the plight of millions of refugees and displaced persons who have been uprooted as a result of such acts and reaffirmed their right to return”.

Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram said that by adopting Pakistan’s resolution, the General Assembly had “reaffirmed our legal, political and moral case in support of all peoples, including the Kashmiri people, to struggle for self-determination against foreign occupation by all means available to them”.

The text of the resolution was recommended last month by the General Assembly’s Third Committee, which deals with social, humanitarian and cultural issues. While taking up a report on “Social development”, the assembly also “stressed the importance of removing obstacles to realizing the right to self-determination”.

By a recorded vote of 168 in favour to five against with 10 abstentions, the Assembly then adopted draft resolution II — “The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.” The resolution reaffirms the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including to their independent State of Palestine.

It urged all states and specialised UN agencies to continue to assist Palestinians in the early realisation of this right.

The United States, Israel, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Nauru voted against the resolution.

Ambassador Akram said the resolution on self-determination had empowered legitimate freedom movements and had also renewed international commitment to help those living under occupation and subjugation. Pakistan, he said, would continue to speak up for all peoples who were suffering under foreign occupation. “This has been a cornerstone of our foreign policy and we are proud to be a voice of the voiceless,” he added.

The General Assembly also proclaimed Aug 31 as the International Day for People of African Descent to “promote greater recognition and respect for the diverse heritage, culture and contribution of people of African descent to the development of societies”.

The Assembly deferred action on two draft resolutions: “Situation of human rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar”, and “a global call for concrete action for the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”. The resolutions would be reviewed after budgetary considerations.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that the Indian media was trying to divert the world’s attention from the Indian government's illegal steps in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the Indian media was doing so through negative and baseless propaganda against Pakistan.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, the premier was chairing a meeting to review the negative propaganda and disinformation campaign, including hybrid warfare, launched by the Indian media against Pakistan.

During the meeting, the prime minister observed that the objective of such nefarious propaganda was to create anarchy in the country.

He directed for effective measures to be put into place to foil the Indian media’s negative propaganda.

He also stressed the need for public awareness in this regard, saying that such a baseless and concocted campaign should be countered with facts.

"The real face of India should be exposed before the international community and the public," the statement quoted the prime minister as saying.

He also expressed the hope that Pakistani media would play its imperative role in this regard.

The meeting was attended by several federal ministers including Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz, Minister for Interior Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed, Minister for Communication Murad Saeed, PM’s special assistant Dr Moeed Yousaf, Focal Person on Digital Media Dr Arsalan Khalid, among others.

I think it is religion and always has been.. It was Hindu first, then Buddhism enjoyed patronage and now it is Islam.

What is Kashmiri identity? Is it people or religion?

I guess they don't teach you this in india but Kashmiri is an ethnicity, their identity is their language and culture. Hindu nationalists try to muddy the waters by acting like Hindu is some kind of ethnicity and identity but it's just a belief system.

Through settler colonaliasm, India is trying to settle non-Kashmiri from mainland against the consent of the Kashmiri people, they didn't abolish Article 370 without a referendum or even took the puppet government in Srinagar into confidence. You can't impose laws on a sovereign people. Kashmiris never wanted to be a part of India and Nehru promised them a plebiscite.

Settlers will not force Hindi and Malayalam on locals. Kashmiris can continue their language and culture.

Kashmiris never wanted to be a part of India and Nehru promised them a plebiscite.

Correct.

Its really sad that Pakistan is not willing to do their bit per the UN requirements. PER UN: Pakistan must vacate all their troops presence from POK and India is allowed to have a minimum troop presence to prevent any Pakistani aggression and then the plebiscite can take place.

Come on Pakistan why are you turning your back on Kashmiris?????

Settlers will not force Hindi and Malayalam on locals. Kashmiris can continue their language and culture.

Kashmiris don't want the settlers, they didn't get a choice in deciding. What India is doing is called "settler-colonalism" ans is a hallmark of genocide.

Its absolutely futile to talk to Indians. The Indian state is now an official body snatcher in Kashmir. This is the latest. I mean it was earlier done in secrecy but now done openly by the fascist state apparatus.

One should Trust own identity and inspire new generations to continue it rather than isolating itself from rest of the system in the fear of losing it.

That's something the people of Kashmir can decide. The Indian federal government can't impose laws on them and strip their autonomy without consent.

Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir – On Tuesday, Indian forces killed three young Kashmiri men claiming they were supporters of armed groups and likely planning an attack, but their families saying they were innocent and were murdered in another case of a staged gunfight.

The families of the three victims – Zubair Ahmad Lone, 25, Ather Mushtaq Wani,16, and Aijaz Maqbool Ganai, 22 – from Shopian and Pulwama districts, on Wednesday protested in front of the Srinagar police headquarters, demanding justice for their sons’ murder.

They say the men left home a few hours before a “gunfight” began in Srinagar, the main city in the Muslim-majority region, and accused the Indian army of abducting their children and killing them in a “fake encounter” – a term used in India to describe an extrajudicial killing.

“This is clearly a fake encounter,” said Irfan Ahmad Lone, the brother of one of the victims, Zubair Ahmad Lone, who worked as a mason in the Shopian district after leaving school.

Irfan claims his brother had lunch at home on Tuesday afternoon hours before the gunfight began in Srinagar, about 65km away, which takes about an hour by car.

“I want to ask the army, how did my brother become a militant within hours? Where did he get weapons and join militancy? Where did he get himself trained in hours?” Irfan, who, along with another brother, serves in the police department, told Al Jazeera.

“We want the world to talk about it because they will kill more people in fake encounters in the future.”

The latest alleged extrajudicial killings come a week after Indian police accused an army officer of killing three labourers in a staged gun battle in July. The officer and his two accomplices were also accused of planting weapons on the bodies of the victims to make it look as if they were armed fighters.

A top officer of the Army, Major General HS Sahi, claimed the three rebels had plans to carry out a “big strike”, and that they had turned down repeated surrender offers during the encounter. Police said one rebel was killed in the early hours of Wednesday and two others were shot dead a few hours later.

The bodies were buried about 120km away from their homes in Sonmarg, their families said.

More than 100 Kashmir rebels have been buried far from their homes in secret graves as part of government policy to deny funerals which attract large crowds. Since India stripped the Muslim-majority region’s limited autonomy in August 2019, nearly 200 rebels have been killed in such encounters, according to official data.

Tens of thousands of people have been killed since an armed rebellion against Indian rule erupted in 1989. India has accused Pakistan of backing armed rebels but Islamabad, which also claims the Himalayan region, denies the charges.

The families of the other two victims – Ather Mushtaq Wani and Aijaz Ahmad Ganai – said they were students and had been living with their parents.
Wani, a class XI student, was scheduled to appear for his exam on Thursday, his family said. Ganai, a
college student, and Wani were friends.

Ganai’s family has requested the region’s governor, who directly works under India’s home ministry, to return their son’s body for last rites.

Politicians in Kashmir have called for an investigation into the killings, with former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti calling them “a grave violation” of human rights. In a letter to the governor, she has demanded “an impartial investigation into the matter immediately”.

After public outrage, a police statement said they are investigating the cases and after the thorough investigation “will come to the conclusion on merits”.

But rights activists say recurring violations of human rights in Kashmir are due to the impunity granted to Indian soldiers under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), a counterterrorism law with sweeping provisions. They also point out that rewards and cash incentives given to soldiers for the capture and killing of rebels also contribute to extrajudicial killings.

Under the AFSPA, regional authorities have to seek permission from the central government before initiating cases against armed personnel since the whole region of Jammu and Kashmir comes under Disturbed Areas Act.

According to official figures, from 2001 to 2016, the regional government sought permission of the central government to prosecute army personnel in 50 cases. But New Delhi denied permission in 47 cases, claiming lack of evidence. The results for the three cases are pending. No such figures are available for the cases before 2001.

Guftar Ahmed Chowdhary, a rights activist from Rajouri, told Al Jazeera that justice for the victims was “almost impossible” under the AFSPA.

“If the central government gives permission only then army officers can be tried in a civilian court. I don’t think there is hope for justice as long as cases are tried in military courts,” Chowdhary said.

Activists also point to the lack of justice in previous cases of alleged extrajudicial killings. In an encounter at Pathribal on March 25, 2000, the army had claimed that it killed five foreign fighters but an investigation later found that the victims were civilians killed in a staged gunfight.

Five army officers were found to be responsible for the crime, but the military court acquitted them on a lack of evidence.

Similarly, an army court in 2014 found a colonel, a captain and three other security personnel guilty of killing three civilians in the 2010 Machil fake encounter case. They were sentenced to life, but in 2017, the sentence was suspended by the Armed Forces Tribunal.

Rights groups say extrajudicial killings have been taking place in Kashmir for the last two decades with zero prosecutions.

“Over the last three decades, JKCCS has documented thousands of cases of enforced disappearances, extra judicial killings and torture in Kashmir, including cases of civilians killed fake encounters and passes off as militants,” Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, a local rights group said in its statements in July after the Shopian fake encounter.

The group added that despite public pressure and probes ordered into the killings, justice was not served to the victims.

Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, a senior human rights lawyer based in the region, told Al Jazeera that army personnel should be tried in civil courts.

“In the Shopian case, three labourers were declared militants. We do hope for justice but then the question is who will do the justice? They will court-martial the army men and the whole thing will be done by the army. The process is not transparent,” he said.

“There is little hope for justice in these cases, if they are tried in civil courts we might have hope – otherwise they become mock trials.”

The Indian state is now an official corpse snatcher.

Ironically, one of the 3 boys killed in this fake encounter belonged to the family of Indian police officials. His brother (also a policeman) used to facilitate the burrying of martyred Kashmiris hundreds of miles away from their homes after their bodies were not handed back to their families for last rites. This time his own brother saw the same fate and now he is crying that his brother was innocent.
Heartbreaking scenes nonetheless.

'Doubly inhuman': Pakistan condemns India's refusal to hand over bodies of martyred Kashmiris

Pakistan on Tuesday condemned the "doubly inhuman" move by the Indian government, which, after the extra-judicial killing of three Kashmiri youth, is now refusing to hand over the bodies for burial.

"Pakistan has strongly condemned the latest extra-judicial killings by the Indian occupation forces of three Kashmiri youth in Srinagar on 29 December 2020," read a statement by the Foreign Office.

According to the Foreign Office, the families and neighbours of the martyred Kashmiris — Aijaz Maqbool Ganie, Zubair Ahmed Lone, and Athar Mushtaq Wani (aged 16 and students of Class-11) — "have affirmed that the young boys were innocent, who visited Srinagar on the fateful day and became victims of Indian state-terrorism".

The Foreign Office said it is "doubly inhuman" that the bodies of the three Kashmiri boys are not being handed over to their families for a proper burial, despite repeated appeals by the families.

"This is a new form of oppression that the Indian occupation forces are now resorting to in order to break the will of the Kashmiri people. They will never succeed in this attempt," it said.

The statement called upon the "people of conscience across the world" to take stock of the "killing spree" in India-occupied Kashmir which continues unabated and the "reprehensible refusal" by the Indian government to hand over the bodies. It should be a matter of grave concern, the statement added.

"The morally bankrupt RSS-BJP regime should not be allowed to act with such impunity," the FO stressed.

It emphasised Pakistan's position on the gross and systematic violations of human rights being perpetrated by the Indian occupation force, saying that an investigation by a UN Commission of Inquiry — as recommended by the OHCHR in its Kashmir reports of 2018 and 2019 — is warranted.

"Pakistan reiterates its call for an independent inquiry under international scrutiny to investigate the extra-judicial killings of Kashmiris by Indian occupation forces and to bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice," the statement concluded by saying.
