Preferred in place of Abdullah Shafique and seems to be doing well.

Seems a little unsure against the short ball though

Decent debut for him in PSL - 32(26)

Horrible fielder from what we've seen today.

Very slow in the field.

He’s got intent but he’s a rubbish player

According to TV Comms, LQ philosophy is to give players chances so expecting him to play all 10 games.

Rubbish batter. Could had created problems had he departed earlier.

Given the emerging player rules, he'll probably get quite a few chances at PSL 8.

Can't write off a young player after just 1 inning, I say give him at least 5 matches.

Big test for him vs Imad Wasim - let's see how he goes.

45 off 39 today.

Painful to watch.

Probably a good thing for LQ that he got out.

Lol LQ promoted him as their next big thing in this PSL.

Reminded me of Misbah. I'm sure he made him proud at the very least.

I think he’s a better player than he’s shown. There’s clearly a lot of nerves there, and he hasn’t been helped by how pointless Kamran Ghulam’s innings were as well.

The problem with some of these PDP players is, aside from those few qalanders tours and maybe the t10, they don’t play any other cricket. So whilst there may be talent there, the development can be hit and miss.

He was using up ball after after with the likes of Wiese and Sikander sat in the dugout.

The commentators were talking about him as if he had scored 50 off 20 balls.

Dude, the ‘best players’ in Pakistan do what he did today on a regular basis

Of course your commentators don’t have a clue about cricket

Him and that guy Niazi in KK , very selfish players, they were worrying about not to get out , with no concern about the team total. Sort of Misbah mentality.

I genuinely feel Tahir wanted to hit out but he is so poor that he got bogged down with no way out

In these situations, the best thing to do is try to run down the track against spinners and hit a few or miss them completely

He is good against high pace and bounce , a rare trait to have at the start of his career , he is very raw and has no game against spinners

There’s two aspects here.

1) He was batting with Kamran Ghulam, who just isn’t a T20 player. The lack of boundary/strike rotation heaped pressure on young Baig.

2) Most of these LQ PDP lads are properly undercooked. I’m actually reasonably confident that Baig has a lot more strokes than he’s shown so far. Buts he’s hardly played professionally, barring exhibition games on Qalanders away tours. When you’re in the spotlight, you sacrifice technique and resort to slogs to be effective, which is what he kept doing with his pull shots. I think the management need to back him, and Shaheen needs to sort out his batting line up. LQ’s batting approach of Fakhar and InshAllah can only go so far.

This is not bad from Tahir - good strike rate and gave his side a good start.

He may not have the style that we would like to see but he is effective and credit to LQ for persisting with him.

Mirza Tahir Baig c Guptill b Nawaz 31(15)

Also looks like he read the comments here as he was effective against spin as well this time, that 6 over deep extra cover off Nawaz’ first delivery in particular was very assured.

Runs 108
Innings 3
Average 36
Strike rate 135

Decent numbers so far

Much better Innings.good to see him stay still at the creese instead of swinging windly.

Decent based upon what I have seen so far. Good intent and has shots on both sides of the wicket.

Thing I would like to see is that if he keeps showing skills in this PSL season, he should be considered by his region's team in domestic competition for whiteball cricket as that's the only way he can improve further. If he just remains tagged as LQ's PDP player and only plays in PSL then there will be very limited opportunities for him to grow further.

Time and patience running out with Tahir Baig? Gone for 2(7) vs QG - pretty poor effort

Looks like a bit of a slogger to me.

Wild shot today to a delivery that didn't require that sort of shot.

He's ok, it's his first season. We need batsmen like him who aren't afraid to take the bowling on.

I would give him one more opportunity he has had enough chances.

Reached a maiden half century but couldn't take his side home - 54 from 42 balls.

I guess you guys now understand the frustration people like me feel with Rizwan’s T20i opening innings

That was a Rizwan innings by Baig!

His 50 was a Baig innings for Lahore Qalanders.

And he won his team the game like rizwan. Thanks for coming.

Tbf he wants to be a 160 sr+ player and isn’t consciously statpadding. He’s just not good enough yet to be there

He isn’t afraid to hit sixes unlike our National T20 openers

On a serious note, one thing I liked about his performance today was that he actually went up to 5th gear when Sam Billings came on after he had run out Shafique.

He could've easily played the Babar/Rizwan way and scored run a ball and left it for his partner to get all the runs but he actually took responsibility so full credit for him.

As you say, he's a bit raw at the moment. Needs to develop his game.

Bro he wanted to get on top from ball one

He swings every ball but he isn’t good enough yet. Needs a full season of white ball domestic

It isn’t difficult to out-bat Babar. Tahir Baig took the easy route and played a slow innings. Risky and cowardly play.

Fortunately, senior player Sikandar Raza tonked a few and got the LQ over the line.

No bro I genuinely think he is rubbish and doesn’t know how to bat at this level yet. He slaps the short ball and the full one but misses too many on his pads

He isn’t a good batsman. Undeserved MOTM. Even ran a few batsmen out.

Nonetheless, it isn’t difficult to play a better innings than Babar. The bar is very low and he capitalized on it—won a easy MOTM. A freebie award for a very average innings. A typical Pakistan 50-and-out.

He plays the same thing in the final. The LQ are loosing. Rizwan bats better than this guy.

He managed to pick his SR up but if he is being played to hit big from the start then he is a waste of a spot in the team for the time being

Highlights of Tahir Baig's excellent 54

It’s amazing how a player who did not play any FC or domestic competition can play a brilliant knock of 31 (17) in a big final and pump an international standard bowler like Sheldon Cotteral

Well done Aqib Javed and PDP for finding this lad!

He has some potential and can hit big shots. But needs some more coaching and experience, and improvement in his running/calling.

Has shown a few glimpses but I'm not fully convinced by anything I've seen. We are overstocked in top order white ball batters.

That pull shot of Cottrell for six was very Rohit Sharmaisque.

As mentioned above, he does indeed pick up length early and plays some gorgeous shots in the test match context. Now watch Aqib and his pals destroy him with their obsession with technique and fitness and watch him fade into oblivion. The only thing he needs is experience and to put on some weight, he clearly lacks hitting power not because he doesn’t have the leverage, he does, but because he’s probably been forced into being a stick insect for ‘fitness’ i.e. ‘selection’ purposes. This guy will either disappear or have his method ruined and then disappear. It’s a pity, because he clearly has something (great timing), he’s your classic throwback to an 80/90s Pakistani player, but apparently that’s not enough for the masses. On the contrary, I’m not surprised at all that he’s playing the way he is notwithstanding his lacks of experience, he’s playing that way because the coaches haven’t ruined him yet as they so often do.

Tahir Baig 95(75) narrowly missed out on a century on List A debut against OGDL

He hit an impressive fifty to help SNGPL to an important win in the President's One-Day Cup 2024.
