[VIDEOS] Lockie Ferguson - Performance Watch

Absolutely this. Kane and Ferguson are pretty much carrying this NZ team at the moment.

Without Ferguson’s wicket taking ability in the middle overs, NZ would be struggling to defend targets 20 or 30 runs higher than they’ve been setting.
I told you all he has a great bouncer and yorker, he's got a good slower bowler now too :)

I told you all he has a great bouncer and yorker, he's got a good slower bowler now too :)

If he didnt take out Hetmeyer with that slower ball. You would been done for. Hetmeyer and Gayle wanted to finish this by 30th over. They had the firepower to do that too!

Big time difference maker for NZ. Even if he goes for runs , he will pick up wickets.

This guy is a beast. I think people underestimate him. He can run through lineups with ease.

Love this guy's bowling.

He's like an old-school Pakistani bowler - just run in, bowl as fast as you can, don't worry about conceding runs, blast the oppostion batsmen with your pace.

'It would be a dream come true' – Lockie Ferguson eyes Test debut

After starring with the ball at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019, New Zealand paceman Lockie Ferguson has said he wants to make his mark in Test cricket.

Ferguson finished as the second-highest wicket taker in the World Cup with 21 wickets, including three in the final against England at Lord's. The 28-year-old is currently tending to his fractured right thumb, sustained during the Sri Lanka tour earlier this month, but hopes to make a comeback soon, and is particularly keen to impress the selectors ahead of a big Test season.

"I've been pretty vocal about Test cricket being the one I want to play," he told Stuff. "My whole career, I absolutely love playing the longer format of the game. A lot of cricketers say they don't really judge themselves until they've played Test cricket, and there's a big Test cricket season coming up."

New Zealand are currently No.2 in the ICC World Test Championship standings, having won the second Test against Sri Lanka to draw level in the the two-match series. Over the next few months, they have Tests lined up against all of England, Australia and India, and while opportunities are bound to come up, Ferguson is only focussed in the here and now.

"I'm certainly not getting ahead of myself," he said. "There's a lot of cricket to be played. A lot of times in the past, I've focused a lot down the line, and it doesn't often help. I'll just keep working away game-by-game and those kind of things take care of themselves. It would be a dream come true for sure."

The Black Caps will host England in a tour comprising five T20Is and two Tests, the first of which will be played from 22 November at the Bay Oval. Their next Test series is against Australia for a three-match series Down Under, after which they host India in five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.

New Zealand have beaten India and England in Tests at home in 2014 and 2018 respectively, but haven't won a series in Australia since 1985. Ferguson, with his extra pace and sharp bounce, could be a lethal weapon against the neighbours.

"I know I made my debut in one-dayers against Australia [in December 2016], and that in itself was a dream come true in a way, debuting at the SCG," he said. "Of course these games are going to be big games and the new pitch at Perth looks naughty, as it always is with the old WACA."

Ferguson sent for MRI after pulling up lame on debut

New Zealand have suffered a major injury blow with debutant fast bowler Lockie Ferguson sent for scans for a suspected calf strain.

New Zealand confirmed Ferguson sustained the injury while bowling in the second session of the first Domain Test at Perth Stadium and will undergo an MRI scan.

The express paceman will then be assessed on Friday morning when his participation for the remainder of the match is set to be revealed.

Ferguson bowled with searing pace in scorching conditions on day one, recording figures of 0-47 from 11 overs on Test debut.

Upon completing his 11th and final over, the 28-year-old grimaced and clutched his right calf before leaving the field.

The right-armer should have had a maiden Test wicket but Tom Latham put down a hot chance at second slip to give Steve Smith a life on 19.

It's the second injury setback for the Black Caps this tour, with spearhead Trent Boult unable to overcome a side strain issue in time to be fit for the series opener.

Boult bowled with good pace and swing on match eve in the Perth Stadium nets but New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said at the toss the left-armer was not quite ready to play.

With Ferguson out, more will be asked of allrounder Colin de Granndhomme, who had to recover from an abdominal injury to play.

De Grandhomme captured the first wicket of the series for the Black Caps when he trapped opening batter Joe Burns in front for nine, but a review would have saved the Australian.

Rules out from the rest of his debut Test due to injury - has there ever been a stranger debut?

WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is not expecting to be picked in New Zealand’s test squad on Monday for the series against India as he recovers from a calf injury that ruined his debut against Australia late last year.

Ferguson broke down after bowling just 11 overs in the first test in Perth and has been working his way back to fitness for Auckland in domestic cricket.

He expects to play New Zealand’s domestic one-day final on Sunday and indicated the limited overs series against Australia in March was a more realistic target for his international return.

“Of course the goal is for me to get back as soon as possible, but there is so much cricket coming up this year,” he told Stuff Media in Auckland on Friday.

“We’ve got a lot of white-ball stuff and I head away to the IPL as well, so it’s important with a calf injury, where there’s a high percentage chance of re-injury, that we be conservative.

“Sunday’s my focus and then I’ll be looking to play some first-class cricket.”

Despite making his test debut last December, Ferguson is realistically fifth in the pecking order behind the established trio of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner and then Matt Henry.

Boult broke his hand in Australia but trained with the national side earlier this week in Mt. Maunganui before they wrapped up a 3-0 sweep in the one-day series over India and should play the first test that starts on Feb. 21 in Wellington.

“It’s not an easy side to make, the New Zealand test side,” Ferguson added. “Not that it’s easy to make any of the sides, but they’ve been exceptional for so long, and especially the fast-bowling attack, that’s been very settled for a long time.”

He also acknowledged that despite being considered as more of a limited overs bowler at the international level, he was still motivated to play the longest form of the game.

“Since I started playing professional cricket, it has been my goal to play test cricket, because personally I feel that’s the biggest challenge,” he said.

“I am obviously super stoked to be playing one-dayers and T20s for New Zealand, I love every moment of it, but playing red-ball has been a big goal of mine.

“On the day it wasn’t to be (in Perth), I only got through 11 overs, and it was really frustrating.

“But it’s one of those things. When you bowl quick, injuries can sometimes happen.”

He took 3/15 in 4 overs today at the IPL:

Lockie Ferguson | Man of the Match: The team has been going good. Pleasure to get an opportunity and do well. We’ve obviously had a big sit with no cricket which is interesting back home. Had a couple of warm-ups and a lot of training sessions. Always getting David Warner, especially start of the Super Over was satisfying. It’s great having Morgs, we’ve both been part of this. Was good to use of his experience. Will take this win, enjoy tonight. It was a tough win on a very tough wicket.

Bowled brilliantly. Watch it if you haven't.

We would be world champions had he bowled the super over.

It wasn't Boult's day.

KKR can drop Cummins now and play Nagarkoti instead

Maybe swap him for another batsman

Lockie Ferguson will be a menace for our batsmen, especially if he plays Tests too.

From NZC:

Auckland Aces speedster Lockie Ferguson was withdrawn from the squad (for T20I series against Pakistan) after scans revealed a bone stress injury of his lumbar spine. More details of his expected rehabilitation time will be known once the results of further imaging are available.

There's positive news on the injury front for one of the Blackcaps paceman Lockie Ferguson.

Newshub understands the prognosis on Lockie Ferguson's back injury is better than first feared and a diagnosis of an incomplete stress fracture has boosted hopes he could return for matches against Australia in February.

Meantime, as the team prepares to begin their series against Pakistan, uncertainty remains over exactly when the skipper will return to action.

On Tuesday, the Blackcaps arrived in Auckland without Williamson , who didn't play in the second test win over the West Indies, as he awaited the birth of his first child.

"There's no update on baby news at this stage, so we've just got to let them carry on as is," says coach Gary Stead.

Williamson will definitely miss Friday's opening Twenty20 against Pakistan, with the coach hoping for a return when the series heads to Hamilton and Napier.

Ferguson up for the fight as partial stress fracture confirmed

BLACKCAPS paceman Lockie Ferguson has been diagnosed with a partial stress fracture to his lumbar spine and will require four to six weeks of rest before returning to training.

The injury to the left-side of his back surfaced after the recent T20 series against the West Indies and subsequent scans and imaging confirmed the partial fracture.

Ferguson will not need surgery, but instead requires a period of rest and rehabilitation before considering any return to play later this summer.

BLACKCAPS coach Gary Stead said it was a blow to lose Ferguson, but backed him to come back.

“We’re all really feeling for Lockie,” he said.

“Injuries are certainly part of our sport, but to get something like this when you’re at the very top of your game is especially disappointing.

“The pace and skill he’s been able to consistently produce has made him one of the very best white ball bowlers in the world and a huge asset for the BLACKCAPS.

“Lockie has a great attitude and I know he’s up for the fight so he’ll get stuck into the rehab and we’re still hopeful he may get back on the park at the back end of summer.”

Ferguson will likely miss all of the Auckland Aces Dream11 Super Smash campaign which runs from late December through to the final on February 14.

The BLACKCAPS end to the international home-season sees Australia arrive in late February for five T20 Internationals, before Bangladesh conclude the summer with three T20Is and three ODIs, the final game being played on March 28.

Blackcaps fast bowler Lockie Ferguson will take the next step in his recovery from a back injury, returning to Auckland club cricket on Saturday.

Ferguson, 29, has been out of action since the end of last November, diagnosed with a stress fracture in his back. As a result, the speedster could only watch from the sidelines as the Blackcaps sealed T20 series victories over both Pakistan and Australia in his absence.

But now on the mend and eager to return to the bowling crease, Ferguson will turn out for Parnell against Grafton at Shore Road on Saturday.

Ferguson returned to bowling last month - albeit in the nets - but has been working closely with Blackcaps strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson, in his bid to get back to full fitness.

His return can't come soon enough for the Blackcaps, selector Gavin Larsen said on Thursday.

"He's a valuable commodity to us, Lockie" Larsen noted.

"So we're taking a very prudent approach with him, but all the indications are he's right on track and he's certainly in consideration for that T20 squad."

Ferguson will be hoping to return to full fitness in time for next month's Indian Premier League, where he'll turn out for the Kolkata Knight Riders, coached by former Blackcaps captain Brendon McCullum.

The IPL could prove to be a double-edged sword for Ferguson and the Blackcaps though, with the Kiwi contingents' involvement potentially ruling them out of the T20 series against Bangladesh later this month.

It is expected that the nine New Zealanders with IPL contracts would be required to leave early due to their commitments, with only eight days between the end of the Bangladesh tour on April 1 and the start of the Indian tournament on April 9.

"We're having that discussion at the moment because we've got a number of guys involved in the IPL and there is a cutover period," Larsen adds. "We're just working through that now."

Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Jimmy Neesham, Tim Seifert, Mitchell Santner, Adam Milne, Kyle Jamieson and Finn Allen are the other New Zealanders with IPL commitments.

Seems to be up and running:

BLACKCAPS quick Lockie Ferguson has fired up yet again with a blistering performance against the Otago Volts - snaring his Auckland Aces T20 career best of 4-19 in a brutal eight-wicket win over the cellar-dwelling hosts.

He apparently clocked 157.3 kph today.
The speed guns at the ipl are dodgy as hell with hardik pandya and shardul thakur clocking over 146 kph lol.

Having seen all these guys clocking at least 5-6 kps slower on ICC speed guns.

Lockie is quick but he hasnt come close to 157.3 kph on icc speed guns , neither has nortje come close to the 156 he registered in the ipl.
Shardul thakur and shami have never clocked close to the speeds they are clocking here.
No doubt Lockie is one of the fastest in the world , not sure he is 157 -158 kph quick tho

Watch: Lockie Ferguson clocks 157.3kph, bowls fastest ball of IPL 2022 in RR vs GT final. Here's how Buttler played it

Lockie Ferguson saved his best – or in this case – his ‘fastest’ – for the last as he broke the speed barriers in this season of the Indian Premier League. Ferguson bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 (157.3 kph) during the final of the season against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Gujarat Titans are taking on the Royals as the Hardik Pandya-led side chases a title in its maiden season in the tournament. Follow IPL 2022 Coverage

Ferguson bowled the fastest delivery on the final ball of the fifth over of the game, as Jos Buttler was left dazzled with the speed at which the ball swept past him. It was a yorker-length ball outside off and Buttler completely missed the line, as Wriddhiman Saha safely carried the ball.

Earlier, the Rajasthan Royals had won the toss and opted to bat against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Royals are chasing their second title in the IPL, having won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008 under the captaincy of the late Shane Warne.

Titans, meanwhile, had enjoyed a stellar maiden season in the tournament, finishing at the top of the table in the league phase with 10 wins in fourteen matches. In Qualifier 1, Hardik's men had defeated the Royals in a dominant 7-wicket win in Kolkata, and would be aiming for a similar result tonight.

The Titans have a significant psychological edge in final, however, as it is taking place in their home ground (Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad). Add to that the expected full house in their own backyard at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad with a world-highest capacity of 132,000, and the Titans could easily run out the firm favorites.

He started well, since then he has given away a lot of runs
maybe the dew has started to come in?

Lockie Ferguson might be in action in the 3rd T20 match of the series. How exciting will it be to watch this express pacer bowling against the likes of Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam.

Lockie Ferguson today against KKR in IPL 2024:

1st over - 28 runs.Next 3 overs - 19 runs with a wicket.

A great comeback by Lockie; he made a brilliant return after going for runs.

Maybe in T20. But not in T20Is

He now has a record that can never be broken. Can be tied.

New Zealand bowler Lockie Ferguson praised the bowling conditions at Brian Lara Stadium after his historic spell of 4-4-0-3 against Papua New Guinea in the T20 World Cup amidst the disappointment of an early exit from the T20 World Cup

Ferguson's performance was nothing short of magical as he registered the most economical bowling figures in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup, and became only the second bowler in T20Is to bowl 24 dot balls without conceding a run.

His sensational spell was instrumental in restricting PNG to a mere 78 runs, with every New Zealand bowler chipping in to take wickets.

Reflecting on the match, Ferguson appreciated the challenging nature of the wicket. "Yeah, no, no runs today. But yeah, look, obviously a tough wicket to bat on. Coming from the IPL, where there were a lot of runs being scored, it's nice to have a wicket like that for a change," he said in a video posted by the ICC on their social media.

The bowler acknowledged that such days are rare and cherished the opportunity to exploit the conditions. "It was just one of those days. You could see when our boys went on it as well. So I guess from a bowling point of view, nice to be able to bowl on wickets like that. But I can't see it happening too many times."

Despite his personal success, Ferguson was candid about the team's premature exit from the tournament. He expressed his disappointment while also praising his teammate Trent Boult, who played his final T20 World Cup match.

Lockie Ferguson in doubt for Champions Trophy and Pakistan tri-series

New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is under an injury cloud, ahead of the the tri-series in Pakistan and the Champions Trophy, after hurting his hamstring while playing in the UAE's ILT20.

In the first qualifier on Wednesday, captaining Desert Vipers against Dubai Capitals, Ferguson left the field without completing his allotment of four overs. There was only one ball left, in both his spell and the innings, and Mohammad Amir stepped in to deliver it.

With Capitals needing one off the final ball, Sikandar Raza whipped Amir away for four to seal DC's spot in the final. At the post-match presentation, Ferguson said, "just a little hamstring issue, unfortunate. Tough night; wish I could've bowled the last ball."

Ferguson underwent a scan the next day, according to New Zealand head coach Gary Stead, to determine the severity of the injury. New Zealand are still awaiting more details.
