[VIDEOS] Maaz Sadaqat - A promising young all-rounder

Only Khushdil has been decent in this tournament so far, while Tayyab and Iftikhar have been out-performed by a considerable margin by other middle-order bats. Hussain Talat is with the national team, but he wouldn’t have been able to do much too.

We keep picking openers and play them in spots where you have to find the gaps for ones and twos if you can’t get the big hit. If so, you pick openers who have an appetite for big knocks and are considerably experienced, who can get their game going even if the circle doesn’t have a lot of fielders in. Instead you get the bonanza plan of batting an inexperienced Shamyl Hussain at number 3, when he has opened all his career. Yes, its still the top-order, but it requires a mindset shift, and expecting an extremely young player to do that while managing the intense pressure of international cricket is unfair.

You also have these great minds playing Fakhar and Usman at 5 and 6 respectively, where I doubt they had ever batted in their careers.

The only one who’s spot these morons have secured is Babar Azam in all formats and Rizwan in the ODI format.

Shamyl should not have played for Pak. His time may come but now wasn't it. It would have been better for him to play in NT20. He may get to play the third match as well & even score but he's being setup to fail.

As a neutral i enjoyed his batting. Gets in position early, has power, wonderful to see his hooks , pulls...& He plays with an air of gay abandon almost like a West indian from the 70's, 80's, plays with the air of someone who is enjoying living his dreams...sometimes cricket needs such young guys - such characters

This guy!!

He cannot play short ball at all!! 😂 😂

Yesterday too when he scored 70+, it was torture seeing him vs. the short ball or bouncer.

Today BD figured out easily that he cannot play short balls or bouncers. Targeted his body, easy catch given.

WTH how these new players have so many obvious flaws?

Blame the pitches.

I read an elaborate article on reddit last week (after BD bounced out Pakistan) from a pak fan on how pakistan pitches make pak batsmen susceptible against bounce. IN that article there was mention Shan Masood in SA spent thousands of dollars to learn to play bounce with the help of Gary Kirsten. He looked alright. From what i have seen AMir Jamal lower order all rounder seemed to be decent than pakistan top order batsmen against bounce. Did he practice in Australia?

Played grade cricket in Australia as a youngster

Figures. He has decent trigger movements for handling short ball. Gets on top of the bounce. Even Indians at the start stuggle. But they find different ways to practice against short ball.

This is Subhman Gill's method at home

Shubman Gill prepares for short balls in India using high-intensity, specialized training, including facing daily throwdowns with a high backlift to counter steep bounce. His technique involves a back-and-across movement, utilizing a short-arm jab or pull shot to handle balls rising rapidly from matting or specially prepared wickets.
Key Aspects of Gill's Short Ball Practice:
  • High-Volume Repetitions: Since childhood, Gill has practiced facing roughly 1500 short balls per day, often with a plastic ball or in a restricted space to maximize hand-eye coordination.
  • Specialized Drill Tools: He uses a charpoy (traditional woven bed) to make balls skid faster and jump, simulating uneven bounce. He also practices with a single stump to improve hitting the center of the bat.
  • Training Techniques:
    • High Backlift: Maintains a high backlift, allowing him to quickly react and handle rising deliveries, focusing on pulling with a controlled motion.
    • Top-Hand Control: Uses drills focusing on the top hand to maintain balance and control, enabling him to "stay on top" of the ball, particularly when playing on tracks with less bounce.
    • Short-Arm Jab: Develops a short-arm jab to combat deliveries that are not quite short enough to pull but still uncomfortable to play off the front foot.
  • Targeted Net Sessions: In preparation for matches, Gill specifically requests high-paced throwdowns to simulate short-pitched bowling.

Pak will get destroyed in SENA, if they continue to play with BD, type teams, a nd do not arrange more tours especially for A teams, like SENAI teams do when they tour each other, because everytime they go there, they get annihlated by bowlers either swing, seam, bounce and have not wona test in AUs in like 30 years, and Have a poor record in SA, NZ and ENg in this decade or so

Maaz did ok in his debut series... I will not hype him to the moon yet but he is the one to keep putting your trust on and let him groom.

Hyderabad Kingsmen's Maaz Sadaqat talks to the media in Lahore:

On the New Franchise and Preparation

Maaz: "I feel very lucky to be part of the Hyderabad team. It’s a new franchise and Alhamdullilah our preparations are going great. Everyone is really enjoying themselves."

On Facing Former Teammates (Like Babar Azam)

Maaz: "That’s just cricket. All these franchises are our own in a way. One day you play for one team, the next day for another. Winning and losing is part of the game. My preparations are complete and we’ll see how it goes on match day."

On Batting Position

Maaz: "As you know, I play as an opener. I’ve performed as an opener throughout domestic cricket so I expect to play in that same role here as well."

On Team Environment and Coaching

Maaz: "The atmosphere is very friendly. Even though it's a new franchise it doesn't feel like one. The coaches, players and management treat us so well that it feels like we’ve been a team for a long time. We are enjoying it and hope to win this tournament."

On Playing Style and National Team Aspirations

Maaz: "I play my natural game. My focus is always to play with the best possible strike rate. That is my main goal to stick to my natural style and perform well."

On Personal Goals for the Season

Maaz: "No matter where I play, my goal remains the same: perform well and win matches for my team. For this PSL the ultimate goal is to win the final and become the Player of the Tournament."

On Role Models

Maaz: "Since my Under-19 days, my idol has been Mohammad Rizwan. He is the one I follow and look up to."

Rana will not like this statement.

Anyway, He should open in t20s and I think he can play 1 down in ODIs if Fakhar and farhan are set to open in near future. Good player

A magnificent half century by Maaz lifts Hyderabad kingsmen after a dodgy start to the tournament. Gone after scoring blitz 62(26) against Multan Sultans in Lahore.

He's already done something Babar and Rizwan will never do make a 50 at 250 strike rate in PSL...... Same as Babar and Rizwan will never make 75 of 46 in ODIS them 2 were like Misbah to Pakistan cricket things will get better in T20s and ODIs.

Maaz should replace Saim in the T20 team, who should focus on his ODI and Test game. Maaz is a like-for-like replacement for Saim anyway, and I feel that ODI is Saim Ayub's best format.

It would be premature to discard Saim imo. A different role, down the order can be tried first.
