[VIDEOS] Mohammad Abbas commits to stay at Hampshire until at least the end of the 2024 season

Mohd Abbas the Ultimate trundler is back.west Indies should be beware of his 120kph thunderbolts.clueless selection yet again by that clueless guy.

On what basis has this guy been selected? Didn't Mohd Wasim admit when he dropped him that Abbas needed to go back to the drawing board now that batsmen were playing him from outside the crease. Has he found a solution to the problem or added 10 km/hr in pace

Wasim is being clueless and berift of any strategy with his selections

You can't avoid what he did in the England and that's why he's selected.

Pakistan seam bowler Mohammad Abbas will return to play for Hampshire in the County Championship.

The 31-year-old bowler had been playing in his country's tour to the West Indies where he took six wickets across their two Test matches in Jamaica.

Abbas will miss Monday's game against Yorkshire as he has to serve a period of quarantine on his return to the UK.

He will be available for Hampshire's final three games against Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire.

Abbas took 26 wickets for Hampshire earlier this season as they finished second in Group Two behind Somerset.

Good for him. Regardless, his international days are numbered. Was watching the highlights of 2018 England series recently, he was consistently cranking it upto 135 then. Now can hardly go past 128.

If nothing else, Abbas will find steady employment opportunities in England for quite some time.

Absolutely, he's the ideal bowler for county cricket.

If 45-year old Darren Stevens is still going strong for Kent with his dibbly-dobbly medium pace, Abbas can certainly play in England for the next 5 seasons.

I'd say even longer...

County cricket, then club cricket.

He could go on for many years if he's fit enough.

Theoretically, he should go get injured much considering his style of bowling. But you never know...

By the way yesterday's injury was an ankle problem. He stood on the ball and twisted his ankle.

A Dukes ball bully, when his team needed him to bowl my team out to win the Championship, in a match in which no innings reached 200, he went wicketless.

Awful final performance.

He is one of the best in English conditions.Unfortunately his pace has gone down which gives batsmen time to come forward. His average this season is 15.87 which is outstanding.

Mohammad Abbas Joins Hampshire For Second Stint

Pakistan seamer returns for at least the first two months of the season

Fast-bowler Mohammad Abbas has agreed to re-join Hampshire as their overseas player for the start of the 2022 LV= Insurance County Championship.

The Pakistan seamer played an important role in Hampshire’s bowling attack last year picking up 41 wickets at an average of just 16. This included three five-wicket hauls with best figures of 6-11 against Middlesex at The Ageas Bowl in April.

Abbas – who will join up with Hampshire for at least the first two months of the season - will be the Club’s second overseas player alongside fellow fast bowler Kyle Abbott, with whom he teamed up so successfully in 2021.

After impressing Pakistan’s national selectors through sustained domestic success in 2015 and 2016, Abbas burst onto the international scene four years ago, claiming his maiden Test wicket two deliveries into his debut against West Indies, before going on to record his first five-wicket haul in just his third Test appearance.

An incredible 2018 saw right-armer continue his meteoric rise, claiming 50 Test wickets in his first 10 Tests – becoming the fastest pace bowler to reach 50 Test wickets for Pakistan – as he was named PCB Test Player of the Year.

Further success followed in 2019 with Abbas continuing to be an integral part of Pakistan’s attack during series against South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka, before featuring in all three behind-closed-doors Tests during last summer’s tour of England.

‘I’m delighted to be joining Hampshire again. I really enjoyed the environment and playing with this squad at a fantastic ground like The Ageas Bowl. I know there’s a big desire at the Club for silverware in the County Championship and hopefully I can play my part and contribute with the ball.’
— Mohammad Abbas

‘Mo showed everybody last year that he is a bowler of the highest quality. He’s an extremely popular member of the squad, so we are thrilled he’s agreed to come back and he joins Kyle Abbott as our second overseas signing.’
— Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White

Abbas doing what he does best in County Cricket

Abbas is tailor made for English conditions esp in early part of the season. If he was 10km/h quicker,he could have been devastating. He is not doing bad though.

Hampshire will take on Surrey at The Kia Oval in their opening away game of the 2022 LV= Insurance County Championship season.

The only Division One team to win in the competition’s opening round of fixtures, James Vince’s side picked up 23 points after beating Somerset by an innings and 113 runs inside three days.

Hampshire Squad

Hampshire have named an unchanged 13-man squad for the trip to Surrey.

Joe Weatherley will be looking to build on his fine start, after he made his highest First-Class total of 168 against Somerset, and will once again open the batting with Ian Holland.

Hampshire’s impressive bowling attack was also on show at The Ageas Bowl last week, with Mohammad Abbas, Kyle Abbott, James Fuller and Keith Barker all catching the eye.

Not going that well for Ababs - 0/28 in 10 overs vs Kent

Still not his season so far, has seemed to have faded in the last couple of seasons.

Since we have got serious pace back with Shaheen and Naseem we seem to have discarded.

I’m afraid Abbas’s time is up. He has lost a yard of pace and he wasn’t fast to begin with. He is now so slow that even if he can extract movement, it just doesn’t trouble anyone.

It’s a shame because there was a brief moment in time when he looked like a king, even on dead UAE pitches. Unfortunately now that time has gone.

For Pakistan, the future is Shaheen and Naseem. If Hasan Ali gets his act together like he’s started doing in this county stint, then he’s the natural third seamer. Harris Rauf has potential but he’s quite expensive at the moment. Abbas isn’t even in the picture.

Abbas needs some wickets to get back in the groove - playing against Lancashire at the moment.

I don’t understand how he is getting slower and slower. He looks physically quite weak too.

He needs to get in the gym, strengthen his legs and shoulders and flatten the belly

He's 32 by Pakistani standards, which in reality could mean anything. What we can be sure of though is that his peak has gone and it's only downhill from here.

Mohammad Abbas celebrated his first LV= Insurance County Championship five-wicket haul of the season but Gloucestershire's ripsnorting evening session snatched the momentum from Hampshire.

Hampshire looked set for a first-innings lead in excess of 200 after Abbas ripped through the visitors with a textbook showcase of line and length bowling with six for 45. But Ajeet Singh Dale and Jared Warner added 55 for the last wicket to reduce the deficit to 163.

And then Mohammad Amir continued the Pakistani bowling dominance with three for 11, with Ryan Higgins also pilfering a scalp, to leave Hampshire 28 for four, with their lead 191.

To start the day, Liam Dawson and Kyle Abbott had failed to reach the bonus point for 350 runs despite a spirited morning effort, with Graeme van Buuren pinning Abbott lbw and Dawson flailing to deep extra cover – Hampshire all out for 342.

Abbas came into his own with an incredible seven-over spell of four for 16. Abbas’ second over was an Ageas Bowl classic. Marcus Harris left the first ball and pumped the second for three before the overseas found George Scott’s tentative outside edge behind. James Bracey was shelled at third slip first ball, played and missed the second before he finally tickled behind – Abbas coming over, around and then over the wicket again. A plan hatched by Keith Barker during their meeting last year.

Hampshire were now in the box seat and relentlessly hunted down further wickets. Miles Hammond was the next to feather Abbas to keeper Ben Brown before van Buuren was leg before on the cusp of lunch.

Abbas’ spell initiated murmurs in the Hampshire dressing room that it had produced more heat than other efforts in recent weeks due to compatriots Amir and Naseem Shah watching on.

Marcus Harris ended the procession to Abbas by loosely driving Abbott to second slip and Tom Lace had his off stump left lopsided by James Fuller.

Ryan Higgins countered with an entertaining 46 in conjunction with Dom Goodman before taking on Felix Organ one too many times to top edge to deep midwicket. Abbas then completed his five-wicket haul with a short ball into Goodman’s ribs, which was gloved through to Brown. Amir followed two balls later with a sharp edge to second slip – Abbas celebrating by running down to his friend and laying his hands on his shoulder in a consolidatory manner.

The hosts debated whether to enforce the follow-on or not at the fall of that ninth wicket, only for Dale and Warner to put on 55 – the highest partnership of the innings. Dale, against his former county, laughed at his No.11 billing with a brisk 36. Organ eventually got Warner to push to short leg to bowl Gloucestershire out for 179.

Gloucestershire’s glee was increased as, in 11 evening overs, Amir had Organ jabbing to the cordon second ball, before Ian Holland fell in the following over – caught behind attempting to leave Higgins.

Abbott and Abbas were lbw in successive balls to Amir coming around the wicket, as Hampshire saw their openers and tail disappear in a little over 45 minutes of havoc.

Mohammad Abbas speaking last night:

"Alhamdolillah, I will be ok, will put some ice on it (foot that was hit by M Amir yorker) and I will be ok - no worries"

"I took six wickets in an innings last year too, and before this match, I was thinking that my bowling partners had 5fers to their names, so I was thinking to myself that come on, it's your turn right now to do the same, so I bowled in my right areas and took six wickets with The Almighty's help"

"I was in good rythm which I feel helped me get wickets"
