Good luck to him but I think apart from pace he is short on skills.

It’s a dream come true, says rookie debutant Hasnain

Sharjah, 24 March 2019:

Mohammad Hasnain’s rise to Pakistan colours is as fast as he bowls, making his one-day international debut within a week after spearheading Quetta Gladiators to the HBL Pakistan Super League title with a player of the final performance in front a packed-to-capacity National Stadium crowd.

Only to be 19 next month, an overjoyed Hasnain received Pakistan’s green cap from head coach Mickey Arthur as all members of the squad congratulated the young fast bowler at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

“I can’t describe the feeling, it’s a dream come true,” Hasnain told pcb.com.pk. “The prayers of my parents, my hard work and the guidance of all my coaches are behind this one-day debut and now I will do my best to fulfill the confidence reposed in me.”

Since joining the squad in Dubai, Hasnain has been on cloud nine.

“It has been a great feeling and everyone has welcomed me,” said Hasnain. “Team captain Shoaib Malik, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood and every teammate has been welcoming and supportive and that has made my heart bigger and bigger.

“I hope to be up for the challenge and hope to start a long career.”

Some four years ago, Australia maestro Steve Waugh had predicted Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hasnain would make it big by playing international cricket. Waugh had seen the two players during Pakistan Under-16 tour of Australia.

Shaheen made it big by playing all three formats last year. Sunday’s debut of Hasnain has made Waugh’s words true.

Pakistan Under-16 team’s former coach Mohammad Masroor recalled the tour to Australia in 2015.

“We did well on the tour and during one of the matches at the Bradman Ground near Sydney, Steve Waugh came to watch his son Austin. When he saw Shaheen and Hasnain in action, he predicted the two boys will make an impact at international level.”

Hasnain made an instant impact in the HBL PSL 2019, with his speed and hunger to do well. Although he took just seven wickets in five round matches, his ability to constantly bowl at 150kph caught everyone’s eye.

So impressed were the selectors and Arthur that Hasnain was rewarded with a place in the national team. He celebrated his maiden call with three for 30 in the HBL PSL final and took away the man-of-the-match award on that big stage in his short career’s biggest match before a packed 32,000 National Stadium on March 17.

“His pace is the most impressive and he has the potential of an international player,” said Arthur.

When Hasnain was told of the ODI debut, he instantly called his parents in Hyderabad, who advised him to keep his feet on the ground and do his best.

“My parents were thrilled,” said Hasnain. “They have advised me to be humble and do my best, and I will follow that advice.”

The tall, earthy complexioned Hasnain started playing at an early age. Hyderabad region coach Iqbal Imam spotted his talent and has seen his progress over the years.

“Hasnain played Under-16 and Under-19 for Hyderabad, and right from the start his pace has been impressive,” recalled Imam, a former first-class cricketer who had played alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq, Waqar Younis, Basit Ali and Mushtaq Ahmed for UBL.

“Hasnain is a product of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s age-group cricket,” said Imam.

Hasnain was selected by Islamabad United last year, but an injury ruled him out from the HBL PSL 2018. He made his first-class debut for PTV against Multan in September last year and picked up three wickets while his second and last match to date went wicket-less.

This year, Quetta Gladiators picked him as their 21st player. Since then, he has become number-one as far as the emerging talent is concerned.

Hasnain’s Gladiators’ team-mate Shane Watson said he was instantly impressed.

“He (Hasnain) is someone incredibly fast and who has incredible skill and we will see a hell of a lot of him in the coming days. He did a great job for Quetta,” said Watson, who has played many fast bowlers in his illustrious career for Australia.”

Former great Waqar Younis sees himself in Hasnain.

“Yes, I had the same pace and vigour at this age,” said Waqar. “He is very talented, has pace and bounce and the determination. I have told him not to lose his pace, which is his strong point.

"I wish him the best of luck.”

Mohammad Hasnain's first over: 142.8kph, 142.7kph, 146.2kph, ?, 141.7kph, 147.4kph

He is Express .
This is as fast as anyone will bowl in the UAE.
According to Shane watson he is the fastest teenager he has ever seen/

He is the third express fast bowler in the world. He is hurrying an Aussie batsman on a placid Sharjah wicket. Let that sink in.

Hei is proper express. I am struggling to think of a quicker teenage bowler. Watson was right.

I saw Shoaib Akhtar bowl a bouncer to Greame Hick at Worcester in 1997 and it took off like a jumbo jet going past his nose, his bowl to Khawaja was similar, well this reminded of that.

He's making Aaron Finch jump around on a slow Sharjah pitch - fantastic to watch.

This lad has potential.

Troubling Finch with his express pace.

3rd over: 145.4kph, 144.2kph, 142.1kph, 141.6kph, 141.0kph, 142.4kph

Exciting to see him rushing Finch for pace with those bouncers. Hopefully he can take some wickets on debut here.

Looks good but very Raw, taking him to WC will be a big risk.

Junaid
Shaheen
Hasan
Sadad/Rumman

Best bowlers to take Into WC. Pace alone isn't enough. We need wicket takers and above mentioned bowlers are wicket takers with whatever their Pace is

4th over: ?, 134.5kph, 143.7kph, 144.0kph, 143.0kph, 144.1kph

Great rushing Finch with pace and bounce. He needs to learn full Yorker delivery and for this he needs to shorten his stride at point of delivery as per Rashid latif

Haha as usual Indians think he is chucking. Not surprised they think almost every Pakistani bowler chucks.

Needs to smoothen his run up and work a little in his action specially when delivering an effort ball.

Seats booked for Engaland
1-SS Afridi
2-Hasan Ali
3-Faheem
4-Hasnain

one to go, candidates, Aamir, Junaid, Abbas, Wahab, Shinwari.

5th over: 143.2kph, 143.3kph, 143.4kph, 138.2kph, 143.9kph, 143.0kph

Sadad/Rumman ?? we are talking about fast bowlers, not non-turning spinners .

A serious talent.

If he can stay fit, he will get stronger and by 21 he should be bowling 150k with ease.

Good pace but so far he doesn't look like hes someone who can pick wickets regularly, may be on his good day he will get a couple of miss time hook or pull but that's it, currently he does not possess any wicket taking delivery.

Clearly needs to work on his outswing and yorkers cuz these are the basic wicket taking tools.

Asking him to tell him to slow down and stop bowling bouncers that hit him on the head :)

umpire was supposed to tell the batsman before Hasnain would start his over, Right arm, over the wicket, express.

Waqar Younis and all the other experts and umpires in PSL did not see it, but you picked it, brilliant. I guess you have nothing else to say about him .

Okay calm down. Just an observation. Watch in slo mo. Im hoping it’s nothing.

I think heavy ball bumper is his weapon

He should learn to mix it up

All in all an exciting prospect

Sadaf*

Mayb, you are obsessed with pace but I am not and we don't have Shoaib like wicket taking express bowler. I want wicket takers which above mentioned bowlers are.

Hasan and Shaheen are everybody's automatic choice and rightly so as they have proved so has Junaid but for some reason he's not liked by many though whenever he plays he takes wickets and his stats back that.
Sadaf has been a best Oneday and FC bowler in Pakistan since 2011. Just look at his numbers. They are unreal

Rumman has done well in International as well as in domestic, he's the only bowler in the country who can bowl yorkers consistently which is important demand in modern ODIs esp at the later part of the innings and can also swing new ball when it's available

what good is pace if it doesn't lead to wickets?

anyhow, he's a good prospect... but needs someone to guide him

How is he supposed to get outswing with a 12 overs old ball in the UAE.
This was his List A debut. He is very raw . Develop him like Shaheen

Bowled his Fastest ball of the match in his 7th over which tells that He is quite fit for Odi Cricket considering this is his 1st List A match aswell.

147.9 kph.

Good consistent pace.

For an 18yr old, he has some serious pace. Challenge is to remain fit.

7th over: 141.0kph, 146.2kph, 129.6kph, 147.9kph, 128.4kph, 140.0kph, 143.5kph

So how does one take a ticket with older ball on a track like this? This is his first international outing, let's play him somewhere other than UAE at which time we can all see if he has wicket taking abilities

It’s his debut and has undoubtedly looked the most threatening fast bowler from either side

People here are so obsessed with pace, holy moly.

Forgetting Phaintaa Wahab Riaz got in England in Champions trophy as well as in 2016 series.

Junaid was a second best bowler in champions trophy and has one of the best average since the start of 2017 but he doesn't get mentioned. Our fans are unbelievably thick and have short memories

Junaid should be selected and so should be Hasnain

Hasnain offers something different than other options so that also works in his favor.

My fast bowlers for WC:
Hasan
Shaheen
Amir (really don’t like him Atm so probably his last chance)
Junaid
Faheem
Hasnain

Playing XI

Hasan, faheem and shaheen are must

So 1 of Hasnain/Amir/junaid make final XI

yeah i'll give him some leeway for that... but jhye richardson was looking more threatening.
Jhye Richardson got the new ball hence he picked up early wickets. Our Captain is so useless that he doesn't even know whom should bowl the first over

Wahab sprays it around too much.

If you're accurate and have pace you always have a chance taking a wicket every over.

Fair enough, but in recent years Fast bowlers have failed in England in ODIs except Plunkett.
Just look at the record of Mark Wood, Wahab, U.Yadav,Aussie express bowlers, Rabada etc in England

You don't need pace but something else to succeed in modern English conditions. Junaid and Hasan aren't express but they were the two most successful bowlers in Champions trophy. That's why I would prefer Rumman or Sadaf Hussain over Hasnain

Thread is about Hasnain. Please discuss fantasy lineups for the World Cup and Shadab/Faheem's positions elsewhere. Thanks.

Sure but it's important to have a fast bowler who is accurate and can move the ball. The main reason is we never know what type of wickets will be produced for the tournament or or may vary for some matches. Sometimes the wickets require pace to trouble the batsmen. Overall a good balance of bowlers is prefered otherwise the batsmen get used to the same speed in the innings.

Bowled decently.

Was not effective fully due to duds as bowling partners in Abbas and Yasir.

Nice stuff in the end his Yorkers are now Yorkers instead of full tosses in PSL, he is clearly improving day by day first his avg pace is alot higher compared to PSL and his Yorkers are on target, just need to add an outswing and he is a finish article. Would like to see him moving to Aus instead worldcup.

We aren't winning it so no point in hampering Hasnain's development over a meaningless world cup;-)

Trying him is fine but he has zero experience why not let him develop a bit in domestic cricket before playing him.
