[VIDEOS] Ollie Robinson, English right-arm seamer : Performance Watch

Knives out for Ollie Robinson....

==

Michael Clarke is the latest Australia legend to take aim at Ollie Robinson, telling the England bowler he is lucky to be getting a game in the Ashes.

Robinson received criticism from Aussie greats Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting after a somewhat bizarre send-off during the first Ashes Test.

Usman Khawaja scored a superb century to rescue Australia in the first innings but Robinson still opted to send an expletive-ridden send-off his way, saying: ‘F*** off, you f*****g p***k’.

At the end of day three, Robinson defended his outburst and said England had received brutal sledging from the Australians for years.

Several Baggy Green heroes did not take too kindly to Robinson’s antics at Edgbaston and ex-captain Clarke has now piled on, telling Big Sports Breakfast: ‘He needs to shush.

‘If England were fully fit you wouldn’t even get a game, Ollie. If Jofra Archer was fit or if Mark Wood was fully fit, Robinson would be back playing clubbies.

‘I actually don’t know what he’s doing. If James Anderson is saying all this, he’s got street cred. He’s played 180 Test matches, he’s got a lot of wickets.

‘This dude has been around for five minutes. He needs to concentrate on taking wickets. Ollie, just keep taking five-fors and then you can say what you like.’

The new pantomime villain.

Michael “I’m gonna break your ****ing arm” Clarke likes to talk as well. They all do seemingly!

Stokes standing by his guy!

78 mph and whacked by Warner - this won't do from Robinson.

Way too inconsistent today. Bowled some good deliveries, and the one to get Marnus was a beaut, but then strayed onto the pads too often and gave at least one long hop pie or four ball every over. Not good enough today.

As I said on another thread - looks very pedestrian. Not test class

Not sure what's happened to him.

77 MPH when you're fresh is just embarrassing.

Only a country like Pakistan will make this guy look world class. A very ordinary bowler against quality teams.

England's Mohammad Abbas. Gentle 77-80 mph who can nick a few wickets on a seaming English ground, nothing more.

England fast bowler Ollie Robinson is set to sign a new deal with Sussex.

The 29-year-old, who has taken 76 wickets in 19 Test matches, made his debut for the county in 2015.

However, he has only featured in three County Championship matches this season while the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) manage his workload and fitness.

"We are pretty close to being able to announce that he has extended his contract, which is great," head coach Paul Farbrace told BBC Radio Sussex.

Sussex will play in Division Two once again next season after having their promotion hopes ended by a draw against Derbyshire in their penultimate game and a 12-point penalty for receiving four penalty notices.

Farbrace says it is "frustrating" that Robinson has not been able to play at the end of the campaign, but that injury is the reason for his unavailability.

"You want your England players to be part of what you are trying to do," Farbrace said.

"He went off to the Ashes and got injured during the Ashes and missed the last couple of games.

"He has been doing specific fitness work that the ECB have been working on with all of their players in and around their Test team to get them ready for what is coming up.

"It is quite an unusual block, because of the [50-over] World Cup, to have almost a six-month window so they have taken advantage of that to work on his fitness.

"Unfortunately he has got injured in the gym - he has hurt his bowling hand - which means we have not had him available for his final two games. But that is part and parcel of having players play for England."

Sussex finish their County Championship campaign at home against Gloucestershire, with that match beginning on Tuesday (10:30 BST).

Complimented his partner, Joe root who is playing on 110 atm, and scored a maiden 50 of his career to put his team in the front. Well played robinson. That is some inning in that scenario. Still hanging on.

Ollie Robinson failed to pick up a wicket in his 13 overs during the fourth Test

Going to struggle everywhere except hometown pitches. Yes there is height but pace is pedestrian, unlike Jamieson who's both a little bouncier and pacier in comparison.

Stuart Broad is just as tall. But he was also 2-3 whole yards quicker at his peak. And yet, he has a barely passable record overseas.

Expect worse from Robinson.

I think it was obvious from the very start. Still going to be useful in ENG and ENG like conditions but not much to offer beyond that.

He's a very good bowler on helpful surfaces. This Oval pitch has offered historic levels of seam movement but only someone with that extreme high release can exploit it he way he did. Has increased his pace as well.

Very interesting to see how he will go on a flat deck.

He was trundling in Ranchi. Needs to get back to the 82/83 mph mark like he did in the 2022 English summer and in Pakistan.

@RedwoodOriginal This is what I was referring to.

In 2022 English summer , his average speed was 133.5 kph.

He was similarly quick in Pakistan later that year too

His current pace is lower than what he bowled in the 2021/22 Ashes as he showed in India earlier this year.

That is a significant drop. Dunno why I was under the impression that he was bowling in the 120s in Pakistan.
