Pakistan ‘A’ Team Tour of Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Cricket will host the Pakistan ‘A’ Team during the months of October – November

a Bio-Bubble Environment.

So Haider, Abdullah, Musa, Others who at this moment require First Class will be selected for warming the bench & carrying drinks and prevented from playing Domestic Cricket.
Captains Buddies and Coaches relatives (TTFs) will get into playing XI.
What is the use/advantage of this A Tour, Pakistan Domestic Cricket teams (especially, Quad-e-Azam with full strength barring National team Players) are more Competitive than Sri Lanka's National Team currently.
Plus, Conditions are same as in Pakistan.
This tour should be postponed atleast. till Quad-e-Azam Trophy Concludes.

Whats is this organising these 'A' Tours during the Domestic Season. Same thing happened last year, and the Selected players didn't even play one single FC match (Zafar, Abdullah, Musa, Hasnain, Rohail, etc).
Fortunately or Unfortunately, Saud was not selected for that Tour, and he played whole full season & Scored runs and got into the Team.
Otherwise, he would have been struggling to get into Domestic Teams now.
Same with Hasan Ali, who wasn't selected for the A Tour.
Rohail in last two years has played 1 FC match in NZ Tour, Same with Zafar till his County stint this year, Haider hasn't played FC match since 2019 Quad-e-Azam Final, Same for Musa Last FC Match 2019 Final, Hasnains last FC Match is in Sept. 2018 & is yet to play a FC Match in new Domestic Structure.

Please no domestic hacks and journeymen who are in their late 20s except if they are spinners. Let Kamran Ghulam lead it and chose a young team with all having the potential to play for PK. The only player not mentioned but should be one of the 1st on the team sheet is Mubashir Khan, a real talent.

Certainly a good development and exciting opportunity to give youngsters foreign experience, but strange to be scheduling it during the domestic season. Overall good nonetheless.

Left-handed top-order batter Saud Shakeel will captain future Pakistan hopefuls on the tour of Sri Lanka, which will comprise two four-day fixtures and three 50-over matches in Kandy and Colombo from 28 October to 14 November.

Saud played in three One-Day Internationals against England earlier this summer, while other internationals named in the 19-player squad include Abdullah Shafique (T20I), Arshad Iqbal (T20I), Haider Ali (ODI, T20I), Naseem Shah (Test), Usman Salahuddin (Test and ODI) and Zahid Mahmood (T20I).

To maintain consistency in selection, the selectors have also retained players who have recently been part of the national side but have been unable to break into the playing line-up. These include Kamran Ghulam, Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Haris.

With an eye on next year’s ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2022 in the West Indies, the selectors have included in the squad Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s teenage wicketkeeper Salman Khan and top-order batter Qasim Akram of Central Punjab.

Opportunities have also been awarded to exciting talents, such as Sindh’s 22-year-old mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed, Ahmed Safi Abdullah (34 wickets and 245 runs in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21), Irfanullah Shah (23 wickets in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2020-21) and left-arm fast bowler Akif Javed, who is returning to competitive cricket this season after missing the last season due to an injury.

Chief selector Muhammad Wasim: “The objective and purpose of such tours is to reward, encourage, motivate and prepare high-performing cricketers for future challenges, while also developing and strengthening our bench-strength.

“The average age of this squad is under 22 and includes players who have either been part of the national squads or are knocking at the doors of international cricket. The Sri Lanka tour will help these talented cricketers to further hone and polish their skills so that they are ready to perform at the international level.”

Good squad except 1-2 selection. Not sure about 2 Salman and oldie Zahid.

Since most of the main players will be on national duty or on 'A' tour, standard of Quaid e Azam trophy will go down.

PCB should divide it in two rounds, First one from mid Nov to end Dec'21, second can be played in Feb/Mar (just before PSL).

Batting looks good but fast-bowling looks weak.

I would have picked Musa and Waqas Maqsood too.

How has Khurram Shahzad gotten selected though? This guy is terrible and doesn't have a single characteristic that stands-out as a fast-bowler. He isn't tall, can't really swing it, doesn't have pace, haven't ever seen him trouble any batsman and is 28 years old. Even his numbers are bang-on average.

Imran Khan would have been a better pick than him. As would have Waqas Maqsood who did exceedingly well in the last QeA Trophy or Musa for that matter.

Wow looks like a very solid squad. I would have liked to seen Akif Javed get picked for both formats though.

I also thought he was 28 in PSL however, he is around 22 as per the information. https://www.pcb.com.pk/player-detail.php?action=view_profile&player_id=39936&note=&country_id=&pg=332&ipp=50&player_name=&father_name=&district=&region=&school=&address=&club=

He is decent accuracy and can bowl good yorkers at the death. Had a pretty good PSL 7 as well alongside a good QAE.

Bit surprised that Rohail has been dropped. He scored a 100 for Shaheens on NZ tour in 4 day cricket.

Salman Khan Jr who is 21 years old did decently in a small sample size in city cricket if I am not wrong about the information. However, havent see him so cant comment.

He has very good control decent speeds he had an ok qad e azam last year around. I would prefer him over musa definitely.he is very similar to irfanullah thou.

All I can say is that when I look at him, I just don't see a future international-level star. Especially when you talk about the longer format. In T20I he might be able to succeed.

It's also quite surprising to me that they are willing to throw Musa out on a dead-flat Adelaide track against Australia, but won't select him for an A tour.

Musa has far greater potential than him because unlike Khurram, Musa has pace. Which is a great starting point for any fast-bowler. Khurram is an incredibly limited bowler and in all likelihood won't get especially far for Pakistan. So selecting him is akin to wasting a spot.

Last time I checked Musa ( your choice ) is still shortest and most useless phast bowler in domestic circuit.
I agree this guy Khurram Shehzad is also not impressive at all.

As generally happens with Pakistani youngsters, Rohail is regressing . He was knocking at the national selection , now there are many WK ahead of him.

Atleast Musa has pace. That's a great starting point for any fast-bowler. If he becomes skillful enough and maintains his pace, who knows how good he will be? There's potential there, which doesn't seem like its the case for Khurram.

I don't think the squad is terrible, I actually think the squad is pretty decent.

Haider Ali supposed to be in the squad for the WC and they are sending him to this meaningless tour to accommodate useless Azam Khan.

Well done Wasim.

Don’t know why Rohail, Hurraira, Sameen Gul, Umer Khan, Aamer yamin, Amad butt and Hassan Khan are not part of this squad.

Wasim seems to have a general liking for bits and pieces a lot.

He continues to select less batsmen compared to bowlers all the time if it is for Shabeen’s or the national side.

And nobody raise this question in pressers. Pakistan has reputation for weak batting , then shouldn’t he address that with providing more options

Adil Amin averages 79 for Pakistan A in 8 matches with 300+ runs highest score of 120 not out against England Lions hit mark wood straight sixes on front footsame Mark wood which indians were afraid to come on front foot , Rohail Nazir scored 100 in New Zealand in side match. Rehan Afridi was last year best Wicket Keeper, no Wahid Bangulzai, no Mubasir khan, no Muhammad Imran, no Nasir Nawaz, no Asif Afridi, no Faisal Akram what kind of selection is this?

In T20s he is struggling but, in 4 day cricket and List A I think he has done well as I mentioned in my post.

However, Haris is without a doubt impressive talent as well. Rohail could have been part of the squad over Salman Khan.

Though maybe Salman Khan Jr is some sort of a find from city cricket, difficult to comment as havent seen him. If he is selected over Rohail then there must be something.

I think general message from the top is to go for younger guys in Shaheens, kind of like ECB does with Lions.

Adil Amin could have debuted for Pakistan few years ago in whiteball cricket and should still be in the radar. He needs to play some door breaking kind of knocks to come in radar of selectors again and definitely deserves opportunities in PSL.

Rehan was behind in the pecking order to even Rohail I think and even he hasnt been selected.

Mubashir, Bangalzai and Muhammad Imran and Faisal Akram need bit more performances and experience at domestic level. Faisal and Bangalzai will also be playing U19 WC next year. Nasir Nawaz is rated, just needs few big knocks this domestic season.

Mohammad Imran Randhawa, Amad Butt could have been selected over Abbas Afridi I think.

Abbas is a decent youngster so dont wanna bring in any theories but, Imran and Amad surely deserved a chance more than him at the moment.

How does Rohail get dropped after captaining Shaheens in NZ and scoring a ton there.

This is ridiculous.

Pace without brains is useless just like we have seen in this national cup.thiers more chance of him getting selected ahead of musa

I picked sameen in my squad.

Hopeless selection

I picked sameen in my squad.

Its the biggest joke Hussain talat the highest run getter for Shaheens on their last visit of new zealand is not there. someone could ask from Mohammad Wasim.

Should he be? I'd rather see opportunities go to younger & less established players.

Rohail is probably the most curious exclusion and sadly, another cost of selectors looking at a player's box score in a format ill-suited for him and making the case he is "out of form". Not that these A tours should even be about winning but more so development. His FC & List A track record so far is pretty good. I'm not really sure how this Salman Khan is that has taken his spot though.

I would rather see omair Bin yusuf,Abdullah Shafique,Saud Shakeel qasim Akram.the biggest joke is Rohail Nazir not being selected.

Maybe they are taking him as a second keeper for the World Cup?

That too is a poor decision if true

No chance they will select him for the world Cup squad thiers not even 10 percent chance.

Pace without brains is useless just like we have seen in this national cup.thiers more chance of him getting selected ahead of musa

The kid is 21. What are you expecting him to be? Shoaib Akhtar? It takes time to learn and develop as a bowler. Nobody debuts as a fully-formed international-level bowler. And you can only learn by playing more and gaining experience.

Its easy for you to sit there and insult his cognitive abilities. But the simple fact is that every bowler has a plan until they get smashed for a couple of boundaries. And when you're young it can be especially hard to come back from that because you haven't been in that kind of situation before.

But at 21 having that kind of express pace is massive. And its something to work with and mold.

For any young player breaking into professional cricket is hard enough, but its harder for our players because our fans write them off and condemn them as talentless or "without brains" before they've even played 5 games. So why not have some patience before writing someone off, who literally just broke into professional cricket 2 years ago?

What does Sameen Gul have to do to get selected, he should be there instead of his Junior bowling partner Arshad Iqbal, they are both around the same height and pace.

Arshad Iqbal could have been kept back to gain more FC experience, 20 odd FC wickets and he's already moved ahead of Sameen Gul

Shaheens 4 day team

1)Abdullah Shafiq
2)Haider Ali
3)Usman Salahuddin
4)Kamran Ghulam
5)Saud Shakeel (c)
6)Agh Salman (A.R)
7)Rohail Nazir (WK)

9)Naseem Shah
10)Zahid Mehmood
11)Irfanullah Shah (2)

Someone on twitter shared Salman Khan stats. He hasn’t played professional cricket

His grade II U19 batting stats are 31 runs in 3 matches with an average of 10.33 and grade I batting stats are 121 runs in 10 matches with an average of 13.44

Then we cry why our Pakistan cricket is so crap these days. Here is the answer for all of you

That's even better he has time to develop in the qaid e azam.i wasn't insulting him ?.so why are you writing off khurram saying he's Limited its obvious the selector doesn't think that.

Musa needs to play qaid e azam and learn to control his line and length.

Because he is. I'm not writing him off. He can still be successful in limited-overs if he develops variations and control. But can you name one quality that he has that can make him successful in all formats if honed properly? With Musa atleast you can say he has pace.

Waisay I didn't think about this before but the exclusion of Zafar Gohar is shocking. Has been doing well in QeA Trophy and county, can bat, is a very good spinner for the longer format and yet not selected.

Who said all formats ?
I was on about the longer format pluss if you think khurram doesn't have control we should end the discussion here.
Khurram has twice the control musa does.

So all those players selected for this tour have not been considered for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

A forgotten talent is Mohammed Asghar, he is going backwards at a rare of knots. He remains the most talented left arm spinner but needs someone to sit down with him.

Karachi, 21 October 2021: Pakistan Shaheens captain Saud Shakeel is keen on leading his side from the front on their tour to Sri Lanka. Eighteen players and seven officials left Karachi for Colombo last night after a five-day preparation camp which was held at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre and the National Stadium.

The 26-year-old Saud who made his international debut for Pakistan in the three-match ODI series against England earlier in the year feels that the tour is vital both for him and the players part of the squad as it provides them the opportunity of making a name and subsequently progressing to international cricket.

“My message is very clear to the boys, do well on the tour and try and stake a claim in Pakistan men’s national team. Of course our aim is to win on the tour at the same time providing exposure to the players in foreign conditions will be our target. I really enjoy captaincy and look forward to leading any side as it keeps me involved in the game, I always strive to encourage my players to perform while focusing on my own performance.”

Saud made a mark in his second ODI by scoring 56 at Lord’s –the home of cricket. The left-handed middle-order batter feels that he gained great confidence through that innings and it was his experience of touring England with the Pakistan A’ team (Shaheens) that helped him counter the English conditions.

“I gained a lot of confidence by playing international cricket, scoring a half-century at Lord’s gave me a real feel of how things work at the highest level. What really worked for me was my experience of playing in England since I had toured there with the A’ team prior to playing international cricket. I really think these tours are vital and help immensely in the development of the players.”

The southpaw averages 48.78 in 46 first-class appearances (3220 runs, 10 100s), he is considered as one of the most technically gifted players in the Pakistan circuit. After getting a taste of international cricket, Saud is optimistic of making it to Pakistan’s Test eleven soon.

“After tasting international cricket in one-day format, I am really keen on making my Test debut, I have been part of the Test team but haven’t made an appearance yet so my aim is to play Test cricket and serve Pakistan for a long time.”

The two sides will also play a three-match one-day series in Colombo following the four dayers.

After arriving in Sri Lanka, the Pakistan Shaheens started their practice sessions at the venue on Monday. The squad spent the last two days training and assessing the conditions, apart from Saud, the Shaheens that is coached by former Pakistan Test batter and present U19 coach Ijaz Ahmed includes some formidable domestic cricket performers and U19 stars.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris is also full of promise and has made rapid strides in the last two years after starring for the national U9 team in the ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa last year. Another teenager, Salman Khan is the other wicketkeeper in the side.

Pakistan Shaheens captain Saud Shakeel: “We have worked hard and prepared ourselves well despite the challenges of pre-practice quarantine and rain in Kandy. Our aim over the last three days has been to get ourselves acclimatised to the conditions and the weather here. Prior to coming here we had spent quality time preparing in Karachi with extended match-based practice and nets sessions.

“The players are keen, ready and eager to make a mark as this tour is an ideal opportunity of expressing talent and ability with an eye on a place in the national squad in near future.”
