Naseem Shah and Khurram Shahzad shared seven wickets between them to leave Sri Lanka A reeling at 64 for nine at stumps on day two of the four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens in Pallekele on Friday.

Naseem returned with figures of 7-1-25-4 and Khurram finished the day at 7-3-10-3 as only Suminda Lakshan (29) and Nipun Dananjaya (17) only managed to reach the double figures.

Earlier, Abdullah Shafique stroked his second first-class century in his third appearance and Salman Ali Agha struck his ninth century in 63rd match as Shaheens were bowled out for 394 in 106 overs after starting the day at 180 for four.

Abdullah, who was 89 overnight, was dismissed after scoring 117 that came off 208 balls and included 18 fours and a six. Salman began the day at 14 and was the eighth batter out after scoring 103 from 172 balls with 13 fours.

Abdullah and Salman had joined hands at the score of 137 for four and added 98 runs for the fifth wicket.

Later in the innings, Naseem played a 23-ball cameo in which he hit three fours and three sixes to score a rapid 31 and added 45 runs for the ninth wicket with Khurram (20).

For Sri Lanka A, fast bowler Chamika Gunasekara finished with impressive figures of 21-1-83-6.

Scores in brief (day 2 of 4):

Pakistan Shaheens 394 all out, 106 overs (Abdullah Shafique 117, Salman Ali Agha 103, Kamran Ghulam 45, Naseem Shah 31, Mohammad Haris 22, Khurram Shahzad 20; Chamika Gunasekara 6-83)

Sri Lanka A 64-9, 21 overs (Suminda Lakshan 29, Nipun Dananjaya 17; Naseem Shah 4-25, Khurram Shahzad 3-10)

Both Abid and Imran Butt haven't been impressive correct, no doubt about that and no disputing that. However, should both be dropped......in my eyes no only one and that should be Abid given that Imran Butt gives you that edge with his fielding and his batting in the ongoing QeA has been good despite the conditions favouring batsmen. I know it's a cheap price but sometimes you need a good slips fielder and someone like him to take 16 catches in 6 games is unheard of for a Pakistani.

Given our current line-up the averages for our last playing XI and for this year is:

1- Abid Ali= 39.27 (overly inflated with Zimbabwe performances)
2- Imran Butt= 17.80
3- Azhar Ali= 42.63
4- Babar Azam= 31.70 (injured earlier in the year)
5- Fawad Alam= 57
6- Muhammad Rizwan= 44.11
7- Faheem Ashraf= 38.44
8- Hassan Ali= 14.66
9- Nauman Ali= 29
10- Shaheen Afridi= 5.42
11- Muhammad Abbas= 2

Saud Shakeel if he can perform as an opener could be good but based on the stats for this year the only demand is for one new opener. For me Usman Salhuddin was going to be a potential candidate but he's failed thus far and the SR has been terribly low.

However, i think with Ramiz Raja whipping Pakistan into shape i won't be surprised if both Imran and Abid get the boot come the Bangladesh tour.

I agree with your last comment, both these openers are likely to get the boot as Ramiz has a different philosophy.

Also, as said by ElRaja. Azhar is just hogging the spot with bare minimum performances. And I see great potential in Saud Shakeel and dont want to force him to open. He deserves that spot in the middle and Azhar has to go

Certainly feel Azhar has to go and with someone like Saud you have another leftie in your crew but don't think management/Babar will be ready to drop him.

The ideal 11 for next test series should be following:

Abdullah Shafiq
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Agha Salman
Yasir Shah
Shaheen
Naseem
Dahani

Batting: Very strong from 1 to 7
Bowling: 3 proper fast bowlers with Yasir (lb) and support bowlers in Agha (ob) and Kamran (sla)

Khurram Shazad 3-10 in 7 overs. He is an under rated bowler because he is not as quick as others. His line and length is very good that is why he takes wickets.I think Hasnain should have been selected for this tour.

I was telling someone in another person that khurram is a good bowler but he wasn't having it.Husnain should have been thier but who would you replace him with.

Exactly Saud shouldn't be forced to open he needs to bat at 3/4/5

Good team but I don't expect this team.

Abdullah Shafique instead of Butt or Abid Ali in tests please. These latter two are dire.

Imran butt is a good slip fielder who seems to contribute in that area more for a not so good slip catching team Pakistan

Abid on the other hand scored 2 150s in the current round of QEA trophy.. Seems like he is putting some runs under his belt again to get selected...

As Wasim tends to go with data, i believe both will be selected again..

To me , Imran butt needs to play down the order instead of opening , may be after fawad alam, if they need him for his slip catching specials..

Shaheens in total control - plenty of time to force a win

Pallekele, 6 November 2021: Just under 30 overs of play was possible on the third day of the four-day match between Sri Lanka A and Pakistan Shaheens at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Sri Lanka A added three runs in eight balls to their overnight score of 64 for nine to be bowled out for 67 in response to Pakistan Shaheens’ 394. The last wicket was picked up by Arshad Iqbal, who finished with two for 14.

Forced to follow on after being 327 runs behind on first innings, Sri Lanka plunged to further trouble when they were reduced to 53 for two. However, Kamil Mishara first held the innings together and later heavy rain came down to take the match into the last day with the scoreboard reading 102 for two and the home side still requiring 274 to make the visitors bat again.

Mishara was batting on 53 with seven fours from 86 balls and has added 49 runs for the unfinished third wicket with captain Sadeera Samarawickrama (19 not out).

For Pakistan Shaheens, Salman Ali Agha and Khurram Shahzad claimed a wicket each conceding, 17 and 32 runs, respectively.

Scores in brief (day 3 of 4):

Pakistan Shaheens 394 all out, 106 overs (Abdullah Shafique 117, Salman Ali Agha 103, Kamran Ghulam 45, Naseem Shah 31, Mohammad Haris 22, Khurram Shahzad 20; Chamika Gunasekara 6-83)

Sri Lanka A 67 all out, 22.2 overs (Suminda Lakshan 29, Nipun Dananjaya 17; Naseem Shah 4-28, Khurram Shahzad 3-10, Arshad Iqbal 2-14, Ahmed Safi Abdullah 1-11) and 102-2, 28.3 overs (Kamil Mishara 53 not out; Salman Ali Agha 1-17, Khurram Shahzad 1-32)

SL A fighting back as they reach 198/3 at Lunch on Day 4, with Sri Lanka A still trailing by 129 runs.

Pallekele, 7 November 2021: Pakistan Shaheens were denied of a possible victory by a 143-run third wicket partnership and rain as their four-day match against Sri Lanka A ended in a draw at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Captain Sadeera Samarawickrama stroked a gutsy 151 not out and opener Kamil Mishara missed his century by two runs as Sri Lanka A, who resumed this morning at 102 for two and required another 225 runs to avoid an innings defeat, finished 317 for six on a day when just over 58 overs were possible.

Pakistan Shaheens had scored 394 in the first innings and then forced Sri Lanka A to follow on after dismissing the hosts for 67.

Samarawickrama, who started this morning at 19, faced 223 deliveries off which 26 were converted into fours and one for six. Mishara, who began at 53, was unlucky when he became Khurram Shahzad’s second scalp after scoring 98. His 168 balls innings included 15 fours.

While Samarawickrama and Mishara frustrated Pakistan Shaheens on the fourth day, rain and bad light ruined what was shaping into an exciting match.

On the opening day, 50.1 overs were possible as the visitors reached 180 for four. On the second day, 77 overs were possible as Sri Lanka A slipped to 64 for nine in reply to Shaheens’ 394, while only 30 overs were bowled on the penultimate day as Sri Lanka A was dismissed for 67 and then finished at 102 for two.

The two sides will now play three 50-over matches in Dambulla on 10, 12 and 14 November.

Scores in brief (day 4of 4):

Pakistan Shaheens 394 all out, 106 overs (Abdullah Shafique 117, Salman Ali Agha 103, Kamran Ghulam 45, Naseem Shah 31, Mohammad Haris 22, Khurram Shahzad 20; Chamika Gunasekara 6-83)

Sri Lanka A 67 all out, 22.2 overs (Suminda Lakshan 29, Nipun Dananjaya 17; Naseem Shah 4-28, Khurram Shahzad 3-10, Arshad Iqbal 2-14, Ahmed Safi Abdullah 1-11) and 317-6, 86.4 overs (Sadeera Samarawickrama 151 not out, Kamil Mishara 98, Suminda Lakshan 25; Khurram Shahzad 2-67, Kamran Ghulam 1-6, Salman Ali Agha 1-40, Ahmed Safi Abdullah 1-88)

Agree.Need two quality spinners for Sri Lankan pitches.Fast bowlers from all countries have struggled on these pitches.

But it's good to see the fast bowlers get stuck in but unfortunately couldn't finish the job off

They just rotated the spinners so everybody gets a chance which is fair enough other wise Zahid Mahmood played in the first match.

The Shaheens had dominated the two rain affected four-day matches before heading into the one-day series.

No Result, Pakistan win three-match series 1-0

Pakistan Shaheens 167 for 4, 32 overs (Saud Shakeel 59 not out, Omair Bin Yousuf 59; Ashian Daniel 2-44)

Saud should be picked for Pakistans test tour of Bangladesh but i hope they dont pick Abdullah if he isnt going to play. There is half of Quaid e Azam trophy matches left he should be playing for Central Punjab along with Omair bin Yousuf who i highly rate as well.
