Naseem Shah and Khurram Shahzad shared seven wickets between them to leave Sri Lanka A reeling at 64 for nine at stumps on day two of the four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens in Pallekele on Friday.
Naseem returned with figures of 7-1-25-4 and Khurram finished the day at 7-3-10-3 as only Suminda Lakshan (29) and Nipun Dananjaya (17) only managed to reach the double figures.
Earlier, Abdullah Shafique stroked his second first-class century in his third appearance and Salman Ali Agha struck his ninth century in 63rd match as Shaheens were bowled out for 394 in 106 overs after starting the day at 180 for four.
Abdullah, who was 89 overnight, was dismissed after scoring 117 that came off 208 balls and included 18 fours and a six. Salman began the day at 14 and was the eighth batter out after scoring 103 from 172 balls with 13 fours.
Abdullah and Salman had joined hands at the score of 137 for four and added 98 runs for the fifth wicket.
Later in the innings, Naseem played a 23-ball cameo in which he hit three fours and three sixes to score a rapid 31 and added 45 runs for the ninth wicket with Khurram (20).
For Sri Lanka A, fast bowler Chamika Gunasekara finished with impressive figures of 21-1-83-6.
Scores in brief (day 2 of 4):
Pakistan Shaheens 394 all out, 106 overs (Abdullah Shafique 117, Salman Ali Agha 103, Kamran Ghulam 45, Naseem Shah 31, Mohammad Haris 22, Khurram Shahzad 20; Chamika Gunasekara 6-83)
Sri Lanka A 64-9, 21 overs (Suminda Lakshan 29, Nipun Dananjaya 17; Naseem Shah 4-25, Khurram Shahzad 3-10)
Both Abid and Imran Butt haven't been impressive correct, no doubt about that and no disputing that. However, should both be dropped......in my eyes no only one and that should be Abid given that Imran Butt gives you that edge with his fielding and his batting in the ongoing QeA has been good despite the conditions favouring batsmen. I know it's a cheap price but sometimes you need a good slips fielder and someone like him to take 16 catches in 6 games is unheard of for a Pakistani.
Given our current line-up the averages for our last playing XI and for this year is:
1- Abid Ali= 39.27 (overly inflated with Zimbabwe performances)
2- Imran Butt= 17.80
3- Azhar Ali= 42.63
4- Babar Azam= 31.70 (injured earlier in the year)
5- Fawad Alam= 57
6- Muhammad Rizwan= 44.11
7- Faheem Ashraf= 38.44
8- Hassan Ali= 14.66
9- Nauman Ali= 29
10- Shaheen Afridi= 5.42
11- Muhammad Abbas= 2
Saud Shakeel if he can perform as an opener could be good but based on the stats for this year the only demand is for one new opener. For me Usman Salhuddin was going to be a potential candidate but he's failed thus far and the SR has been terribly low.
However, i think with Ramiz Raja whipping Pakistan into shape i won't be surprised if both Imran and Abid get the boot come the Bangladesh tour.
I agree with your last comment, both these openers are likely to get the boot as Ramiz has a different philosophy.
Also, as said by ElRaja. Azhar is just hogging the spot with bare minimum performances. And I see great potential in Saud Shakeel and dont want to force him to open. He deserves that spot in the middle and Azhar has to go
Khurram Shazad 3-10 in 7 overs. He is an under rated bowler because he is not as quick as others. His line and length is very good that is why he takes wickets.I think Hasnain should have been selected for this tour.

The ideal 11 for next test series should be following:
Abdullah Shafiq
Saud Shakeel
Kamran Ghulam
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan
Agha Salman
Yasir Shah
Shaheen
Naseem
Dahani
Batting: Very strong from 1 to 7
Bowling: 3 proper fast bowlers with Yasir (lb) and support bowlers in Agha (ob) and Kamran (sla)
Abdullah Shafique instead of Butt or Abid Ali in tests please. These latter two are dire.
MenInG, no highlights for this match?
Agree.Need two quality spinners for Sri Lankan pitches.Fast bowlers from all countries have struggled on these pitches.Needed a quality spinner.

2nd ODI abandoned.Only one over was bowled before rain stopped the match. The tests were badly affected by rain too.
Saud should be picked for Pakistans test tour of Bangladesh but i hope they dont pick Abdullah if he isnt going to play. There is half of Quaid e Azam trophy matches left he should be playing for Central Punjab along with Omair bin Yousuf who i highly rate as well.
