[VIDEOS/PCTURES] Axar Patel - Discussion Thread

India's squad for the T20I series against England has been announced, with Axar Patel appointed as the vice-captain.

Axar Patel speaking to media at Eden Gardens:

“Yes, a transition phase is coming, and ultimately, it's the selectors' and captain's call. I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone."

"My approach is to focus on fulfilling the role assigned to me and continuously improving myself. If I perform well, my place in the team will take care of itself automatically."

"I just keep telling myself that I have played all three formats, be it Tests, ODIs, or T20s. My focus is on doing well whenever I get an opportunity, rather than feeling the need to prove anything to anyone, whether I'm picked or not."

"I don't take the pressure of thinking that I deserve a spot. It is always about the team combination and whether there is any room for me. When it comes to selection or the Australia series, I think more about where I can get opportunities rather than whether I deserve a place."

50 up for Axar Patel after promotion up in the batting order against England in the first ODI as India closing in on famous win.

Testament to Axar's skill but mostly his mental fortitude and temperament that he's a certainty in India's white ball XI despite Jaddu hanging around and also withstanding competition from other spin options like Kuldeep and Washi and Varun.

Incredibly versatile player.

Reports: Axar Patel likely to be appointed Delhi Capitals captain after KL Rahul rejects offer

The Indian cricket caravan now transitions from the Champions Trophy to the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is set to begin on March 22. Due to the mega auction in November 2024, the fans and experts have witnessed some big changes in the ten teams.

One of the sides that has seen a major change is the Delhi Capitals who released their previous skipper Rishabh Pant and roped in KL Rahul who was a potential leadership option. Though it was believed that Rahul would be the new skipper according to some reports Rahul has apparently rejected the franchise's captaincy offer on the grounds that he wants to contribute more as a player. The report also states that it is Axar Patel, the vice-captain of India’s T20I team, might take the reins of leadership.

“Yes, Axar Patel is likely to be named as Delhi Capitals skipper for IPL 2025. The franchise had asked for KL Rahul to be the team's captain, but he very much wishes to contribute for the side as a player in the upcoming tournament,” the sources said as quoted by NDTV.

Axar Patel entered his name in the history books on Thursday (April 10) by becoming the first Delhi Capitals captain to win the first four matches of an IPL season. He broke former Indian opening batter Virender Sehwag’s record of three wins. During the 2009 edition of the Indian Premier League, which was played entirely in South Africa, Sehwag led DC to three wins in the first three matches.
