Guess both with Melbourne Stars in the BBL at the moment.

How is Mohammad Faizan in the emerging category?

He is 27+ years of age.

Averages 19 in first-class cricket.

Has been playing top level cricket for over 10 years.

Can someone ask this question please?

They really need to get rid of Aqib Javed, he's going to ruin their season again..

One massive issue I find is this Mohammed Faizan Khan is the ONLY emerging player which means he will play ALL games.

He will play all games, despite being a failure at EVERY level he has played in.

Predict a massive failure from him.

How is he even in emerging when he is 27?

Instead, they coulda picked Abdullah Shafique!

damn. why would they pick him then? Don't think I've even heard of him....but then again this is the team that has Salman Butt of all people.

Not the same person, I think. He is from Faisalabad, not Karachi.

Limit for emerging player is age of 23 so I highly doubt PSL management will allow LQ to make such kind of an exception.

LQ still have one slot remaining for emerging player for which they said they will name later. So they will have 2 emerging players in the squad which is the minimum requirement for PSL squads if I am not wrong.

We need to push them to pick Abdullah Shafque.

It will be someone from LQs development program most likely.

Abdullah Shafique is definitely a good talent to look out for but I think teams mostly prefer players who have shown the ability to go big in T20s. Unless Shafique is gonna play in top 3 which is highly unlikely in LQ lineup, PSL stint at this stage wont serve much purpose for him other than getting exposure with the team and he will be better of with a complete season or two of domestic. Even if he would have been selected playing him at 5, 6 would have been useless for his kind of game.

They needed a top-order batsman and they picked Jaahid Ali when someone like Zeeshan Malik was available, sums up their recruitment strategy.

Yes it was a questionable move in my opinion as well but Jaahid Ali did outscore Zeeshan Malik in National T20 2nd XI Cup with better average as well as SR in less matches.

Still I think Zeeshan has showed better stroke play across the formats. Jaahid is also young and is just 24 so maybe he has improved his stroke play as well because he was pretty decent in 2nd xi National T20 (Some of his shots in his 49 ball 70 vs CP 2nd xi against the likes of Cheema and Ehsan Adil were impressive). Also 43 FC matches under his belt so maybe also covered the inherent insecurity of LQ not playing 20 overs with some decent defense which one expects from a batsman with 40+ FC matches.

If they picked Jaahid Ali purely on the basis of some runs in the 2nd XI tournament then that is a failure in itself, to be honest. Besides Zeeshan Ashraf's performances there, it was mostly a battle of mediocrity.

Zeeshan hadn't played many matches earlier in the season as he was on the bench, so he was rusty at the start of the T20 tournament probably, but turned it around completely after he started getting some runs. Has a far higher ceiling, in my opinion.

I hope their 2nd emerging player is a good one. A couple of good youngsters can make watching or supporting a team worthwhile, even if they're not so good on the whole.

I completely agree. I also hope that 2nd emerging player of LQ is someone to look forward to. Bowling Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah was the only thing for me alongside one or two other performances which made their matches an exciting watch which otherwise was a poor season as always.

Some worrying accusations by Atiq-uz-Zaman regarding Aaqib Javed - but could that all be just hot air?

Could Haris Rauf turn the fortunes of the Qalandars in 2020?

YOU HAVE THE WRONG FAIZAN. I REPEAT YOU HAVE THE WRONG FAIZAN.

Faizan Khan is different from Muhammad Faizan. Faizan Khan played for Sui while Muhammad Faizan has never played for a major team, apart from Lahore in the Abu Dhabi Cup.

Muhammad Faizan actually looks exciting. Bats in the middle as well.

Oh thankfully. Was really annoyed.

I got this Faizan through a scorecard. I guess they put the wrong link.

PRESS RELEASE
Lahore Qalandars

Another Qalandar makes it to Pakistan National Team.

Lahore: Lahore Qalandars are proud to announce that their very own Haris Rauf, the latest pace sensation, has been picked to represent Pakistan.

Haris Rauf’s selection highlights Lahore Qalandars’ commitment towards Pakistan Cricket.

He is not the first player to emerge from Qalandars camp. Players like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman also emerged from Qalandars’ platform in PSL and made it to national side.

But, Haris is special one.

He is very own product of Lahore Qalandars.

“It’s a proud moment for us, to see Haris Rauf making waves everywhere with his bowling and now being picked for Pakistan side is exciting,” said Sameen Rana, the CEO of Lahore Qalandars.

Haris had never played any professional cricket before coming to Player Development Program trials in 2017.

Since then, he has never looked back. And, Qalandars kept working on him.

“We always believed that Haris has got everything to be a top fast bowler, we have this confidence, we worked on him and he proved his worth,” said Aaqib Javed, the Director Cricket Operation of Lahore Qalandars.

Haris Rauf’s journey from streets of Rawalpindi to Pakistan team also depicts the idea behind the Player Development Program of Lahore Qalandars.

The management of Lahore Qalandars believe that this selection proves success of the Player Development Program.

“We always believed in winning thru process, to develop our own players, players who can serve Pakistan cricket. Today, I’m proud that we have developed such players. Haris Rauf is one of them, there are many more to come,” said Atif Rana, the CEO of Lahore Qalandars.

Lahore Qalandars will have Dane Vilas (Gold), a 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman who has played six Tests and an ODI for South Africa, replace Lendl Simmons for the full competition. Simmons will not feature in the competition due to personal reasons.

Lahore Qalandars– Dane Vilas (Gold) replaces Lendl Simmons (Diamond, Supplementary) for the full competition.

Too many picks out of the Lahore loyalty. Salman Butt and Farzan Raja may be local icons but they're going to be useless.

When they had the chance of securing the services of David Malan why did they chose Dane Vilas?

Lahore Qalandars repeating their blunders.

They only had one keeper in the squad which was their overseas pick Ben Dunk so they wanted to have another option is my guess.

What do you think about the foreign players in PSL now?

What exactly has changed? All the top players are still there, 3-4 the changes are mostly in lower categories. Vilas is part of Manchester team for the 100 tournament and had some pretty good knocks in last domestic season.

Either you are very patriotic or your knowledge of cricket is very low. He got selected in the 100 tournament because he's Lancashire captain. You think Madsen, Walton, Vilas are good enough to be in the franchise. leagues like seriously? Rassie, Pretorious, Allen, Plunkett etc all of them have already opted out of the tournament and who knows how many players do in coming days.

100 tournament is a different entity from county cricket. Just because he was captain of Lancashire doesnt warrant him a place in ECB's most high profile tournament ever. He averaged 32 with a pretty good SR in Natwest Blast.

I guess you need to do bit more research. Firstly it was a replacement draft which was already scheduled like every year to take into account international commitments and other reasons. So anybody who was not available or partially available (Just like Allen). Plunkett is the only one who has opted due to his certain demands regarding contract. Other than that nobody is opting out as the replacement draft is now done, obviously nobody can tell if somebody gets injured or any such thing.

Rassie is replaced by no 5th ranked T20 batsman David Malan in IU. I like Rassie but Malan is a better T20 player at the moment. Allen will join around half way mark March 8th or somewhere along those lines. While Plunkett is replaced by McClenaghan who regularly plays IPL and other leagues.

All the main overseas players who are the main brands of each franchise are involved are still intact. Not sure exactly what big material change has happened.

Stop making stuff up. They are either unavailable due to national team commitments or injured.

Lahore: The most favorite franchise of Pakistan Super League, Lahore Qalandars will face Marylebone Cricket Club’s in a T20 game on Friday in Lahore.

Led by former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara, the MCC side's tour to Pakistan is first in more than four decades and Lahore Qalandars is proud to be representing Pakistan Cricket at this historic occasion.

"We are thankful to the PCB, specially the chairman Ehsan Mani and CEO Wasim Khan for organizing this tour and giving an opportunity to Lahore Qalandars to play this match," Qalandars' COO Mr. Sameen Rana said in a statement.

Mr Rana added that the match will not only provide Qalandars an opportunity to prepare ahead of the PSL action but it will also help Pakistan winning the battle to bring cricket home at earliest.

"Kumar Sangakkara is finally coming to Pakistan. Players from other countries are also part of the MCC squad. So, it is going to help Pakistan tell the world that the country is now safe to host all forms of Cricket," Mr. Sameen Rana added.

Mr. Rana further said that PCB has and is doing a huge amount to bring International cricket back so we’re delighted that Qalandars are playing their part by providing MCC with a highly competitive fixture.

Captain Qalandar Sohail Akhar is also excited ahead of the match and has promised that his side will give his best.

"I want all Lahoris to come and cheer for us on Friday during this historic moment," said Sohail Akhtar.

"I assure supporters of Lahore Qalandars that we will do well, not only against MCC but also in the PSL," Akhtar added.

Samit Patel on LQ chances etc

Despite of their pathetic performances, how Aaqib Javed is still holding his job, is the biggest mystery of PSL for me.

The guy is more focused on different gimmicks (Ambidextrous bowler/ 7'4" tall bowler) than on actual performance of the team.

Either he is successfully making Rana brothers 'Mamoo' or there is something behind the scenes which we don't know.

Lahore Qalandars Aaqib Javed: Lahore Qalandars coach Aaqib Javed feels Qalandars selections after the Draft were criticised due to their reliance on younger players. Aaqib though has full confidence in the abilities of the squad that Qalandars have assembled for HBL PSL 2020.

Aaqib Javed said: “Other than Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman and Chris Lynn players like Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf are the players who are our match winners. While our squad is balanced and we have a great combination, these players are the ones who can turn it around big time for us. I feel we can turn the tables this time around.

“Both Haris and Shaheen have the experience of Pakistani pitches and I am sure they will bring it in use across all four HBL PSL venues.”

LQ should have considered Adil Rashid, he would be a perfect fit one of the best leg spinners in limited overs.

Someone who is much better than Prassana, and given the fact he is British Pakistani it would have been a match made in heaven

Quotes from Media day for LQ:

2fe9b567-2223-49da-8345-0e5d1721112a.jpg

Fakhar Zaman:

"Last year the season didnt go well for LQ and for myself too; My international form is for all to see and that's why I didnt play against Bangladesh; Now its in my hands to work hard, and I have worked hard for this PSL; I am hopeful that after doing well in practice games I will be able to recover my lost form in this PSL"

"Look there is always competition for the Pakistan team as there are always people lining up to play for the country"

"I had a small injury and I recovered in a week from that its in the hand of every player to improve himself and I will try my best to perform as best as I can,and to make a place for myself in the Pakistan T20 World Cup squad"

Aaqib Javed:

"These franchise teams are not ranked like ICC teams and they change every year, 7-8 players are retained and if you look at all the teams, all faces are different this year"

"We have never played in Lahore as we didnt qualify before but this is the time for that"

"We have selected a good squad and this year's result will have no connection with results of previous years and nor can there be any effect of those results this year"

"We have good options in bowling and experience in batting, I am very hopeful that the result will be very different this year"

Mohammad Hafeez

"As we have said before, the performances from previous season are now in the past; Yes we did not perform well in the past and we admit to that, but based on those performance, we have selected a better team for this year's PSL"

"Lahore Qalandars fans from around the world always support their side although usually when you lose, people stop supporting and start pointing fingers at the side but this is not so with LQ fans who have always respected us"

Haris Rauf

"Its all about performance, if you perform well then that is given value by all"

"With likes of Naseem, Musa and Hasnain around, its a good sign for Pakistan that they have such young pacers available for the team"

"Wickets in Australia obviously suit fast-bowlers there; In Pakistan I will focus on my strengths and just will do what I did last year when I played PSL, which is that I focussed on yorkers; Also slow balls will be more effective on Pakistan pitches so will try that"

Samit Patel

"Its good to be in Lahore, match practice is quite valuable for me, and playing for MCC I can get used to the wickets and see what we are gonna get, hopefully I can produce some good performances for Lahore"

Ben Dunk

"I have a little bit of experience in playing in Karachi where the wicket is slightly different to here; We have three more days of training and I have played a little bit in the subcontinent - in India, Sri Lanka and quite a bit in Dubai; So I have a lot of experience playing in these conditions and hopefully my game can adapt accordingly and help LQ put some big totals on the board"

Dane Vilas

"Firstly I would be very honored to face a legend of the game (Aaqib), hopefully he wont get me out because that will be a black mark against my name as that would be very worrying"

"Obviously its a concern from the outside when you come over here but, from what we have seen its been fantastic; Its a beautiful country, I wasnt expecting to see how beautiful it is; Its a pity we cant go out and see more of it as we will be very busy; All three (overseas) of us have enjoyed the experience so far, and now we are looking forward to the tournament and getting started and playing some good cricket"

Not a bad start from Chris Lynne. Will be important player if Lahore are to do anything this year.

LQ looks like staying true to form and tradition...another defeat.

The worst franchise of all the T20 leagues around the world. I hope they are kicked out of Psl and pcb reauctions lahore team. Pakistanis especially lahoris dont deserve this.

If they were so intent on buying PDP Players in the draft, why didn't they use them?

They used Dilbar Hussain, who is probably the worst of the lot.

I would have loved to see Maaz, Farzan and Faizan in action.

Early days yet, can comeback into it but need their big guns to fire.

Something needs to be done otherwise we will be wasting time watching this useless team. Problem is these teams are owned, selected and operate as private entities (rightly so) and do not take dictate from PCB or any other cricketing authorities. I believe there should be a minimum requirement for these teams performance in every season failing which they should have a chance of losing their status for the next season. This mechanism will ensure owners don't just pick nilly willy what they like but rather use professionals in developing their teams in order to keep their playing status for future.

One or two wickets and then they lose their heads.

They had the likes of Grant Elliot to steady the ship in the past but this lot look like they will struggle.

Such a poor squad!

Two Lahoris are the best performers in the history of PSL yet they have only one Lahori

What is this squad?

Fakhar is our platinum player. Hafeez is our other main player.
I don’t even know the foreign players in our squad except wiese (only coz he hit that last ball six last season).

Extremely disappointed.

Pretty jealous of Karachi’s squad. I’m even thinking about supporting them. Imagine a Lahori supporting Karachi. Smh

After getting so many L's I guess you are right
We are like Knicks we never win anything and we are ran by absolute buffoon of a management

But I stopped watching PSL after 2 seasons instead of supporting another team

They really need to get rid of Aqib Javed, he's going to ruin their season again..

i said it before.

Today during the pre match show, Azhar Ali was saying the problem with LQ is that they dont plan, there are no plans for the players and they only gamble with 'the big names'. And thats why they never got going. And there is no proper team combination.

Him having played and being captain can tell more than any one else. Rana ji needs to get rid of Aqib Javed and have someone who is capable of planning and getting best out of their players.

Why should Qalandars be ashamed? They are trying their best but cannot get it right at the moment.

They are not responsible for crying kids. Ridiculous how other franchises are jumping on this with their fake concern and sympathy.

I feel for the lad. I'm not from Lahore (or Punjab in general) so have no investment in LQ's fortunes.

HOWEVER, even I felt frustrated after the game against ISLU. This is symptomatic of the bad management of the squad that has been going on for years.

Ironically, there are admirable aspects of their operation, I.e. the fact that the team tours and plays outside the PSL, they have relationships with BBL teams that allow a Haris Rauf or a Dilber Hussain to experience Aussie conditions.

However, they really have little aspect of team planning and combinations. Their platinum picks were on retaining over priced players and where other teams have two effective spinners, these guys have Hafeez. I don't know if Prasanna is good, but he needs to play ahead of Wiese now.

Their reliance on the PDP is also hit and miss. For every Haris Rauf, you have guys who have not performed. I can't blame the players who have failed, as the difference between working in a farm and playing cricket at the second highest level is immense.

They've also wasted money on the likes of Salman Butt and Jahid Ali, when they could have used their brains and selected a Mohammad Haris or an Irfan Khan Niazi who represented the U19s in the world cup. PZ have been smart by getting Amir Khan, Haider Ali, QG with Arish etc.

They really need a clean out and a new direction, because failure unfortunately has become a part of their culture and history as a team. You couldn't do worse then replacing Aaqib with a Mohammed Wasim, who did so well with Northern in his first year coaching in domestic. Atleast he would give actual talented youngsters a go.

This has started to look like a joke now. Qalandars are either fielding bunch of idiots or just making everyone fool with these antics. 5 Years are enough.

Don't think coach can be this bad and still survive. Shady stuff really.

Not all is lost. They’re gonna face red hot Zalmi.

Can they bounce back or will it be the same old story

The problem is the management and that has been clear as day since the first edition of PSL.
Sticking to a coach who is a tried and tested failure, utterly cuckoo foreign player signings, virtually no middle order spine.
And now to champ it all, We have a captain who wont get into any of the other teams in this tournament if he wasnt playing for Lahore. I have nothing against the man but he is clearly not fit for this role.

They could have gone for Ehsan Adil for someone else yet they went for someone who has not played FC cricket in god knows how many years
