Pakistan women playing out of their skins! Really nice surprise to see such intent with the bat. The bowling was always capable.

Pakistan Women won by 13 runs

Well done!

Hopefully this win propels women's cricket in Pakistan to greater Heights.

Great win by our girls, considering they also lost to thailand before this match as well. Hopefully they can build on this victory.

That 19 year old Girl called Gosh was smoking them like Misbah against spin! She holed out but that was some terrific hitting trying to rescue the game

I guess India didn't try the Mankad this time. This is a big upset. Pakistan will lose 49 out of 50 games to this Indian team.

Hope this gives motivation to other girls to come into cricket.

Hopefully this win propels women's cricket in Pakistan to greater Heights.

Nothing is going to happen. It would be foolish to assume that this would propel Pakistan women cricket to greater heights.

They don’t have the talent, skill and fitness to compete with the best. This is one of the biggest flukes you will ever see.

One can say that Pakistan is to women’s cricket what Bangladesh is to men’s cricket. A team that will always be mediocre.

Fluke win for sure. If they cannot beat Thailand what can you expect from the team. India were too casual today and wasted too many balls in first 10 overs. Don't think its India's main team either.

Yes we don't have the talent, skill and fitness but we have JAZBA & JUNOON...that's why we defeated a professional team like India.
Never underestimate the Pakistanis in any field!

Thailand is a mediocre school level team. We lacked the motivation to play against them.

:)))

This Jazba and Junoon has made Pakistan cricket a laughing stock. I guess the women’s team get smashed 99/100 times against the big teams because they lack the two Js, but this win would make sure they don’t from now onwards. :)))

We have become total minnows since that test tour of South Africa earlier this year.

We have become total minnows since that test tour of South Africa earlier this year.

Naw this was one off, we will bounce back, Indian women play better than their men counterparts nowadays.

Congratulations to PCWT though

India women's team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur on Friday blamed their shock loss to Pakistan on rejigged batting order, saying the decision to give batters enough game time before next year's T20 World Cup backfired. India suffered only their third loss to arch-rivals Pakistan when Harmanpreet's side choked for 124 in their modest chase of 138 in the Women's Asia Cup here.

"It was a chaseable target. In the middle overs, we were not able to take singles and rotate the strike. We played too many dot balls," Harmanpreet said at the post-match presentation.

Opener Shafali Verma continued to be rested, while Harmanpreet returned to lead the side only to bat way down at No 7 as India continued to experiment in the lead up to the T20 World Cup in South Africa next year.

"I think in the middle we were trying to give other batters a chance. You have to do that as the tournament goes on, but it backfired and cost us the game," she said.

Sabbhineni Meghana continued to open in absence of Shafali as she got out cheaply for 15. India also lost Smriti Mandhana (17) inside the power-play.

Jemimah Rodrigues (2) also fell cheaply as the inexperienced middle-order comprising Dayalan Hemalatha (20) and Pooja Vastrakar (5) failed to steady the ship.

"For me it is important that whoever is new to the side, they should get enough games before the WC. It was a great opportunity for others," Harmanpreet, who scored a run-a-ball 12, said.

India last took on their arch-rivals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in July, where they won by eight wickets en route to winning a silver medal.

"We don't take any team lightly. It is part of the game. They played good cricket and deserved to win. We need to work on areas and be strong," Harmanpreet said.

India will next face hosts and defending champions Bangladesh here on Saturday.

Pakistan, on the other hand, returned to winning ways after a shock reversal against Thailand on Thursday as they are now level with India (six) on points tally.

"It was a very important game for us after yesterday. We executed the things very well. We just wanted to take calculated risks," Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof said.

Middle-order batter Nida Dar struck a 37-ball 56 not out to anchor their batting. She also chipped in with her offspin to return with 2 for 23.

"Nida played a crucial innings for us. In the middle we have gaps, and we know Nida cant hit so we look to hit the strength areas.

"We didn't assess the conditions well (yesterday). We read the conditions well today. We executed the plans very well today," she added

Well, well, well, congratulations to the Pak W team, I didn't expect that one bit. In fact I was thinking is this the first time that they have ever beaten India but found out that it happened before. Shocking result for India Women, although they should still be able to bounce back and win the trophy.

Incredible result.

This win ofcourse does not change the fact that our women's cricket is still deeply underfunded with social norms and patriarchy playing its own role in impeding the progress of the women's game in Pakistan.

At the same time though, the importance of wins like these should not be underestimated either. For most men on this forum this win probably doesn't mean as much as the men's team winning any other day. But its entirely possible that Nida Dar's all-round performance today inspired a little girl to want to play the sport and represent Pakistan one day.

PCB needs to stay focused on Women's Cricket, with some serious investment and programs focused at the women's game. A women's PSL is a start but much more needs to be done on the grassroots level to change backward societal perceptions.

This was Pakistan’s fifth win from six outings in the tournament. The win also confirms Pakistan finished second on the points table with 10 points. The right-arm off-spinner Omaima – who had taken seven wickets from 36 T20Is before today’s match was introduced in the bowling by the captain as a fifth bowler and came into bowl in the eighth over of the innings. She got the wicket in her first over, getting Nilakshi de Silva for naught. In her next two overs, she bagged two wickets each in an over and ended up with match figures of 4-0-13-5.

Bismah Maroof and her side are geared up for their semi-final match against Sri Lanka in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. Pakistan – who ended the table on the second spot will take on third-positioned Sri Lanka in the second semi-final. The match will be broadcast live on PTV Sports, and the first ball will be bowled at 1230 PKT.

The first semi-final will be played between India and Thailand tomorrow morning.

Before the start of the seven-team event, the Pakistan squad underwent a 10-day camp at the Lahore Country Club, Muridke and three days of intense practice and preparations in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

In their six outings so far in the tournament, the Bismah Maroof-led side has won five matches, including a 13-run victory over arch-rivals India. Their only loss came against Thailand, where despite setting a low target, a fightback from the Pakistan bowlers ensured the match went to the final over with Thailand winning by four wickets.

For Pakistan, in their five wins in the tournament, five different players were awarded player of the match demonstrating the team effort. In the win against Malaysia, Tuba Hassan was declared the best player after claiming two wickets for 13 runs in four overs. In a nine-wicket win over Bangladesh, opening batter Sidra Amin’s unbeaten 36 runs helped her become the player of the match. The experienced Nida Dar put in a spellbinding all-round performance against India, and was named player of the match for scoring 56 not out off 37 balls with five fours and one six, and registering figures of 4-0-23-2.

Aliya Riaz smashed her maiden T20I half-century in the 71-run win over the UAE, amassing an undefeated 57 from 36 balls, which earned her player of the match award. In the last fixture before the semi-final, Omaima Sohail was the standout bowler against Sri Lanka, becoming only the second Pakistan player to pick up a five-wicket haul in Women’s T20Is and was rewarded with the player of the match prize.

On the eve of the semi-final, Bismah said: “We have been putting in the hard yards since our camp in Pakistan and also in the practice sessions here in Bangladesh. The atmosphere of the team is very good. I am optimistic that we will do very well in the semi-final tomorrow and will qualify for the final.

“All 15 players here are my match winners. The players have responded really well so far, everyone is taking responsibility, which was on display throughout the matches we have played in the tournament. The key is to take one game at a time and right now we are just focused about tomorrow’s game.”

Squad: Bismah Maroof (c), Aimen Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Naseem, Diana Baig, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Nashra Sundhu, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (wk) and Tuba Hasan

Reserve players: Natalia Pervaiz, Umme Hani and Waheeda Akhtar

Support staff: Ayesha Ashhar (team manager), Saleem Jaffer (bowling coach and interim head coach), Mauhtashim Rashid (fielding coach), Muhammad Zubair Ahmad (analyst) and Rifat Gill (physiotherapist).

Aliya looks like she is too old to play. Anyway our team has no talent. Should consider themselves lucky to make it semi.

wow, they are exact shytty replica of mens team...baajiyon ne jeeta howa match phaink diya... what a shame, 38/0 in 4 they were

Even at 107/4 after 17,3 overs they should have won it. Must be heartbreak for Nida Dar. I have seen her name associated to Pak women cricket for ages.

Commiserations!

Sri Lanka Women won by 1 run

Both the Pakistani men and women teams have the same destiny: they will be mediocre forever.

Aliya looks like she is too old to play. Anyway our team has no talent. Should consider themselves lucky to make it semi.

I have just seen the scorecards on Cricinfo, and apparantly they have done well, apart from the defeat agaisnt Thai women and of course the semi-final here.

They have beaten India and defeated SL quite easily in the first round and should have won today after restricting SL to 122. They just couldn't handle the preassure. But to say they were lucky only, is not correct. They deserved to be in the semis. But SL held their nerves.

Well done to Pakistan Women - done us proud with their effort.

Both the Pakistani men and women teams have the same destiny: they will be mediocre forever.

Our men team is little bit better. We can win few matches against Aus/Eng/NZ/S Africa/Ind where our girld will loose 95% of those.
But Nida has ability to make in to our men team where Haider is not good enough to play in our women team.

sidra and bismah played absolutely trashy when we had SL by the throat and panicking, sidra was playing stupid shots and giggling and dotting away and then threw it away...bismah and nida did lots of dots and wasted plenty of doubles into singles ...

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by one run in a last-ball thriller in the second semi-final at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS) to qualify for the final of the ACC Women’s Asia Cup. The final will be played between India and Sri Lanka on Saturday, 15 October.

Requiring nine runs of the last over, and with three runs required to win off the final ball, Nida Dar was run-out while attempting to take a double, as Pakistan managed to score 121 for six in their 20 overs.

Chasing 123 runs to win, the opening pair of Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin provided a solid 31-run start to the innings. The left-handed Muneeba scored 18 off 10 balls, hitting three fours, before getting herself run-out on the first ball of the fourth over. After the departure of Muneeba, captain Bismah Maroof joined Sidra and the pair added a 16-run partnership for the second wicket.

Sidra (nine off 20, 1x4) got back to the hut while playing a reverse flick off Inoka Ranaweera on the last ball of the seventh over with 47 runs on the board. In the batting powerplay, Pakistan scored 46 for one, and struck six fours. Pakistan were in a spot of bother when they lost Omaima Sohail (10, 14b) in the 11th over and scoreboard reading Pakistan 65 for three.

At the crucial juncture of the match, Bismah and Nida got together and the most experienced pair took Pakistan to 107, with Bismah getting dismissed for 42 off 41, studded with four fours. The pair stitched 42 runs for the fourth wicket.

The dismissal of Bismah gave a ray of hope to Sri Lanka and they fully capitalised on the chance and restricted Pakistan to 121. Nida scored run-a-ball 26, and struck one four.

For Sri Lanka, Inoka Ranweera bagged two wickets for 17 runs.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Sri Lanka managed to score 122 for six in their 20 overs, on the back of 50-run partnership between Harshitha Samarawickrama (35, 41b, 1x4) and Nilakshi de Silva (14, 27b) for the third wicket. Opening batter Anushka Sanjeewani was other notable run getter with 26 off 21 balls, which included one four and one six.

Nashra Sandhu was the most successful bowler for the winning team with match figures of 4-0-17-3. Spinners Sadia Iqbal and Nida and right-arm fast Aiman Anwer scooped one wicket each.

Scores in brief:

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by one run

Sri Lanka 122-6, 20 overs (Harshitha Samarawickrama 35, Anushka Sanjeewani 26; Nashra Sandhu 3-17)

Pakistan 121-6, 20 overs (Bismah Maroof 42, Nida Dar 26; Inoka Ranaweera 2-17)

Player of the match – Inoka Ranaweera (Sri Lanka)

Nida failed to put away a juicy full toss on the last ball. Fitness played a part in the end. She was absolutely gassed and didn't have any power left in the arms.

Still a creditable tournament for these girls. However, this team needs new girls to come to the fore now. Bismah and Nida have been there for God knows how many years now and it's time for them to walk away into the sunset. I hope there are some new girls in the system who can take their place seamlessly.

May sound strange but losing to Sri Lanka is better than losing to India. The chance of winning the final was slim considering the batting and bowling of Pakistan team.

Right-arm fast Fatima Sana returns to the national side for the three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series against Ireland scheduled to take place in Lahore from 4 November to 16 November.

The three ODIs are part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 and will be played from 4-9 November at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The 20-year old Fatima was ruled out of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup held earlier this month in Sylhet, Bangladesh after she twisted her ankle playing for Barbados Royals Women in the Caribbean Premier League.

Fatima replaces Diana Baig in both squads, as the latter is not part of the series due to a shoulder injury she sustained while playing in the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, the 15-player T20I squad unveiled by national women team’s chief selector Asmavia Iqbal also includes Javeria Khan. Javeria last featured for Pakistan in the shortest format was in July 2021 against the West Indies at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

The squads were finalised after deliberations amongst Asmavia Iqbal, interim head coach Saleem Jaffer and captain Bismah Maroof.

There are only two changes in the T20I squad that featured in the recently concluded ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup and three changes in the ODI squad that played against Sri Lanka in Karachi in June this year.

The players who missed out in the ODI squad are Anam Amin, Gull Feroza and Diana Baig (due to injury). Nashra Sandhu, Kainat Imtiaz and Umm-e-Hani come in as their replacements. In the T20Is, Javeria Khan comes in place of Sidra Nawaz.

Pakistan ODI squad: Bismah Maroof (c), Aimen Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana, Ghulam Fatima, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nashra Sandhu, Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin, Sidra Nawaz (wk) and Umm-e-Hani

Reserve players: Ayesha Naseem and Tuba Hassan

Pakistan T20I squad: Bismah Maroof (c), Aimen Anwar, Aliya Riaz, Ayesha Naseem, Fatima Sana, Javeria Khan, Kainat Imtiaz, Muneeba Ali (wk), Nida Dar, Omaima Sohail, Nashra Sandhu, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Sidra Amin and Tuba Hassan

Reserve players: Ghulam Fatima, Sidra Nawaz and Umm-e-Hani

Chief Selector Asmavia Iqbal: “I want to congratulate all the players selected for the upcoming home series against Ireland. The team performed well in the recent ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup and so we have not made many changes as we want a well-balanced and settled squad ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup taking place next year.

“Fatima Sana’s comeback in the side will strengthen the fast bowling department after the team will be without their experienced pacer Diana Baig. I am sure the players will step up and perform, as important ICC Women’s Championship points will be up for grabs for direct qualification to the next ODI World Cup.

“The experienced Javeria Khan has been included in the T20I squad, to boost the side’s batting and her presence at the top of the order will provide stability.”

Both ODI and T20I squads will undergo a four-day camp in Lahore after their arrival in the team hotel on 25 October. The squads will have fielding and net sessions on 26 and 28 October at the NHPC and LCCA Ground, while they will feature in two intra-squad (50-over) practice games at the LCCA Ground on 27 and 29 October, respectively.

Player support personnel: Ayesha Ashhar (team manager), Saleem Jaffer (bowling coach and interim head coach), Mauhtashim Rashid (fielding coach), Muhammad Zubair Ahmad (analyst), Rifat Gill (physiotherapist), Yasir Malik (strength and conditioning coach), Syed Nazir Ahmed (media manager), Hafiz Suliman (team doctor) and Kiran Ahazadi (team masseur).

Former Pakistan women’s captains Sana Mir and Urooj Mumtaz have expressed their thrill and excitement over Ireland women national cricket team’s maiden tour to Pakistan.

The Irish team will arrive in Lahore later this week for three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. The three-match ODI series is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship. All six tour matches will be played at the headquarters of Pakistan cricket, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Sana Mir, who captained in nine ODIs and 10 T20Is against Ireland, said: “It is a great news that Ireland is coming to Pakistan and we will play ICC Women’s Championship matches at home.

“The series will serve a great platform for young players to showcase their talent; it would be a wonderful feeling for players to perform in front of their family members.

“I urge fans to come to the stadium and support the women’s team as they do with the men’s team. The involvement of home crowd will give a huge boost to the players to perform and definitely quality cricket will be provided to the fans.

“The series against Ireland is also important in terms of preparation for the future away series against Australia and then for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa. These bilateral series matches will help the team form a better combination ahead of the mega event.”

Urooj Mumtaz, who captained in one ODI against Ireland, said: “The series is very important to try new combinations and build a good side ahead of next year’s World Cup. Playing at home is a huge advantage, Sri Lanka women’s team also played in Karachi recently and we witnessed a real competitive series between the two sides. The Ireland series also has great importance with the ICC Championship points at stake.

“I would like boys and girls to come to the stadium and support women’s cricket. I am hopeful the fans will turn up to the stadium to witness exciting matches between the two sides.”

Lahore, 4 November 2022: Sidra Amin produced her career-best 176 not out, while Muneeba Ali stroked her maiden century to record a crushing 128-run win for Pakistan over Ireland to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ICC Women’s Championship ODI series at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Friday.

Bismah’s decision to bat first after winning the toss paid dividends from the start as both openers Muneeba and Sidra added a record 221 runs for the first wicket – beating their previous 158-run stand which was made against Sri Lanka earlier this year at the Southend Club, Karachi.

The left-handed Muneeba and right-handed Sidra’s 221-run partnership came off 214 balls. Muneeba brought up her maiden century in the 33rd over of the innings off 108 balls. She was eventually dismissed for 114-ball 107, studded with 10 fours and two sixes.

Sidra was joined by Aliya Riaz – who was promoted up in the order and the two stitched 97 runs off 67 balls for the second wicket. Aliya returned back to the hut after scoring 29 off 28 balls, which included two fours and one six. Sidra – who came into this match scoring two centuries and four half-centuries from 48 matches, scored her and Pakistan highest individual score of 176. Her unbeaten innings included 20 fours and one six which came off 151 balls and helped the home side score 335 for three in 50 overs – beating their previous total of 280 which came against the same opponents Ireland.

In return, chasing a mammoth 336-run to win, the visitors were bowled out for 207 in the last over. Ireland’s skipper Laura Delany top-scored for her side. The right-handed batter struck six boundaries and scored 69 off 92 balls. Delany and Orla Prendergast (29, 45b, two fours) knitted a 69-run partnership for the fourth wicket – the highest of the innings.

For Pakistan, off-spinner Nida Dar was the most successful bowler taking three wickets for 34 runs. Fatima Sana and Nashra Sundhu (playing her 50th ODI) bagged two wickets apiece. Fast bowling all-rounders Aliya and Kainat Imtiaz scooped a wicket each.

Lahore, 6 November 2022: Sidra Amin continues to shine with the bat and scored yet another match innings to help Pakistan sealed a 2-0 series win with a match to spare in the ICC Women’s Championship encounter against Ireland at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday. After recording a comprehensive 128-run win in the first match on Friday, Sidra and Bismah unbeaten half-centuries inspired Pakistan to record a thumping nine-wicket win.

Sidra and Bismah’s batting heroics were equally supported by spinners Nashra Sundhu and Ghulam Fatima – both grabbing three wickets each.

Chasing 195 to win, opening batters Muneeba Ali and Sidra provided a 59-run start to the innings. Muneeba who scored her maiden century in the previous game scored a 33-ball 27, hitting two fours and fell to Eimear Richardson in the 12th over.

Captain Bismah joined Sidra at the crease and both batters never allowed Ireland bowlers to settle and struck boundaries at will. Sidra – who scored an unbeaten 176 in the last game, returned undefeated on 91 off 93 balls, which included 12 fours. Bismah scored a 70-ball 69, studded with 10 fours.

The pair of Bismah and Sidra added an unbroken 136 runs for the second wicket to take the side home in the 33rd over.

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Ireland were dismissed for 194 in the 48th over. Right-arm fast Fatima Sana – who will celebrate her 21st birthday on Tuesday, took the first wicket on the second ball of the match, dismissing Leah Paul for no score. Gaby Lewis was next to return back to the hut (4, 13b) courtesy fine display of fielding by Aliya Riaz whose direct hit left the tourists reeling at 27 for two in 6.1 overs.

That the tourists were managed to score 194 despite losing wickets at the regular interval was largely because of 59-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Mary Waldron and Arlene Kelly. Wicketkeeper-batter Waldron coming to bat at number seven top-scored with 35 off 57 balls, hitting two fours. Kelly – batting at number nine scored a 45-ball 34, smashing three fours.

For Pakistan, the spin twin of Fatima and Nashra bagged three wickets apiece for 32 and 41 runs, respectively. Fatima took two wickets for 26 in 8.2 overs.

Pakistan and Ireland will play the third and final ODI at the same venue on Wednesday, 9 November. The toss will take place at 0900, while the first ball will be bowled at 0930. The match will be live streamed on PCB YouTube channel.
