Women's ODI World Cup 2025: Discussion thread

Today's match was anything but boring. IT was thrill a minute affair because India had to keep up with the rate. Probably one of the best ODI (Men & Women) in recent times.
True that, but mine was more a general commentary on ODIs. That format is losing relevancy.

A lot of people hate on women's Cricket because men do it faster and better. It's true, but simpler things can be as thrilling to watch just like simpler video games. People still take joy in playing 20 year old games despite terrible graphics and gameplay. It's all about the community, they make the sport, and not just about the quality at display.

True. Even Tennis has the same issue - women’s tennis is slower & cannot generally match up to the men’s edition. But all you need is a good narrative like a close match or a great rivalry (like Evert vs Navratilova or Graf vs Seles) to make it interesting and overlook the shortcomings.

Apart from pace bowling, I don't see much difference in Cricket between men and women. They hit 80-meter sixes easily. They also score 300 more frequently these days. Litchfield literally turned into a right-hander and reverse-swept the ball for 6. They have come a very, very long way.

I watched yesterday’s run chase and it was anything but boring. A run chase of 338 is never chased in a WC semi final or Final by Men or Women team in history ever. This was just incredible.

In Men’s cricket, has ever a target of 300+ chased even in a WC semi final or Final? I remember 2015 WC semi final NZ vs SA was closest when NZ chased 298 in 43 overs but it was also regarded as one of the best match of WC history.

This win by Indian Women Team is simply incredible and historical. It will be regarded as one of the greatest days of Indian Women cricket.

This is why knockout matches should be played at traditional centres like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Delhi.

Hope better sense prevails & BCCI slots the final of 2026 T20 WC at one of the above mentioned cities & not that panauti ground.

Records show that the Australian women's team has lost 6 matches since 2017 and out of those 6 defeats, they have lost 3-4 matches to India including 2017 World Cup semi-final loss.

:kp
The record suggested that Australian women have dominated women's cricket for years..

India did a great job toppling them... Congrats. Can beat the Proteas as well. They are on a roll here.

Moral of the story for you - Never ever under instead Indian's. :klopp :kp
