Rishabh Pant Nominated For Laureus World Comeback Of The Year Award

Indian cricket team's swashbuckling batter-keeper, who returned to action after surviving a horrific car accident in December 2022, has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Sports Award 2025 in the comeback of the year category. The awards ceremony will take place in Madrid on April 21. Pant suffered the near-fatal car accident on December 30, 2022 while driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee.

After undergoing initial treatment at a hospital in Dehradun, Pant was airlifted to Mumbai where he was under the care of the BCCI's specialist consultant.

Once the surgeries to reconstruct all three ligaments in his right knee were performed, Pant did his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

The 27-year-old made a remarkable recovery and returned to action for his then IPL franchise Delhi Capitals against Punjab Kings last year in Mullanpur.

Pant then made a triumphant return to Test cricket, scoring a century against Bangladesh in his first game in the format since his car accident. His performance helped India secure a 280-run victory.

He is a top top player in Test cricket and better than his avg too because he has mostly played his games away from home in countries like Australia, England etc. In the initial part, he didn’t played a lot in India where he is usually more authorative and likes to dominate spin bowling. He could have made it to the team in home conditions purely on batting but he worked on his keeping and is doing both the jobs efficiently.

One of the finest keeper bats in Test cricket.

I see one clear issue with gilly is that his sub continental avg is almost ridiculous. His avg is 28 in India, 25 in uae and 45 in Lanka ( 3 good scores out of 6).Pant can definitely replace him in sub continent as he is much better player of spin than Gilly.

Lol, he's played the most matches thats why 🤣🤣. Only wasim bari and ms Dhoni have played more and everyone knows Pant > those 2 in test.

His avg is in the same 30's ballpark with the rest.

Infact a crap keeper like rizwan avg higher and performed better in aus deapite playing with a weaker team then him.

Did you see the 4 100s? That's what matters. Are you again claiming average matters? Those innings are what turns matches.

And he has many scores of 89 plus. Do you belive Rizwans scores are same as his? I will remind you that his 89 won us an entire series in australia while chasing in the 4th innings and all his other 90 scores were equally impactful

Its bit funny how you have been constantly calling out those who used Rizwan and Babars average to say they were great and deserved to be in team, and there you spoke about match winning and being agressive.

Now you are using Rizwans average as a barometer for being better? At least @Major should have fun with this. @Major this guy finally admitted averages matter and Rizwans average makes him better. Basically everything he argued against for so long.

If you read properly I said even a crap batsmen like rizwan.

This will be the last time I talk to you Indians if you dont read my entire post or you ignore it for attention seeking and agenda propagation.

Rishabh Pant now has three Test centuries on English soil

No other visiting wicketkeeper has scored more than one

He is going strong against England...key for posting a big target against England in the 1st Test

'Pant has a sharp cricket brain': Ravi Shastri:

"People say Pant's batting defies logic but there is an element of a sharp cricket brain behind it. He knows when to counterattack.

"It comes off on some occasions and on others it doesn't but if he had converted some of those seven dismissals in the 90s he would have had a double-digit number of Test hundreds."

With his second consecutive ton, Pant levelled the record with former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Andy Flower for scoring twin centuries in a Test match.

In addition to this, he became the first and only Indian wicketkeeper to achieve the historic milestone.

Previously, Andy Flower was the only wicketkeeper who had scored twin centuries in a Test. He scored 142 and an unbeaten 199* against South Africa in Harare in 2001.

Most centuries for a wicketkeeper batter in Tests

17 – Adam Gilchrist (AUS)

12 – Andy Flower (ZIM)

8 – Les Ames (ENG)

8* – Rishabh Pant (IND)

He threw away his wicket today. Hopefully will come good in 2nd inning if India has to do well in this test. #5 is an extremely important position and we need a specialist batter of Gill or Jaiswal calibre for that position.

Pant is a fantastic Test batter but he is playing at least 1 position higher. He should be number 6 or 7 like how Gilly used to be for Australia. India need to find a good number 5, Tilak Varma may be? Need to end the Nitish Reddy experiment, he isn't a very good bowler and his batting is decent at best. The first 3 Tests in Australia where he scored runs did lots of harm to our Test team. Right now only Rahul, Jaiswal, Pant and Gill are Test caliber batters. I am not sure about Nair yet, he did look good for his 30 odd today but got out.

Pant is very crucial for our Test team, just that he needs to bat one position lower at least.

Rishabh Pant’s unconventional flair and fearless strokeplay have often invited comparisons, but few as surprising as the one recently made by former Pakistan captain Mushtaq Mohammad. Attending Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test between India and England, the 81-year-old likened Pant to Shahid Afridi.

“Rishabh Pant is the Indian Shahid Afridi, in fact he is even better than Afridi when he has a bat in his hand,” Mushtaq told PTI.

Pant is a flat track specialist. He feasts on benign bowlers like Carse and Rongue on flat pitches. :inti

You have know clue about what you are talking about. He made loads of runs in Aus. Surely Gabba is a flat deck right?

Pant has amazing defense technique. Better than many top order batsmen infact. Afridi is a blind slogger with no proper technique. Its sad that Pakistan had made Afridi a hero based on his mindless slogging and underserving spot for many years. Pant is a proper bat and a 100X match winner on his own. Its laughable to compare with Afridi.

Mindset of both bats are similar but Pant is successful due to his superior technique and more range of shots.

In terms of mindset, Afridi and pant are the same but obviously, Pant's performance is miles ahead of Afridi's.
Afridi is the most brainless batsman ever to play. It is hard to match him. Pant on the other hand doesn't go after every single ball. If needed he can block for a period exceptionally.

Most 50+ scores by a wicketkeeper in a country away from home:

𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗵 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝘁 (𝗜𝗡𝗗) 𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 - 𝟴*
MS Dhoni (IND) in England - 8
John Waite (SA) in England - 7

He'll eventually go past Stokes record for most 6s in tests. He's been batting like a dream on this tour.

Rishabh Pant is reinventing batsmanship, reminds of Adam Gilchrist: Greg Chappell

"When I first saw him, he reminded me of Adam Gilchrist...a different sort of player, of course, but...the difference it can make to a team when a wicketkeeper can bat at that level and to score runs quickly. You never quite know what to expect from him from the first ball. At any stage he is likely to jump down the wicket to the fast bowlers or play the falling ramp shot. You never quite know what to expect. It keeps the opposition on their toes. He is a match winner (and he) very nearly made the difference in that game"

Greg Chappell echoing the sentiments of many, Pants been the closest bat to AG since he retired...

Risabh pant is better batsman >>>>>>> To any other pakistan test bastman in their history😎+Bangladesh Garbage. He’s best wicketkeeper batsman to ever played in test cricket.

Pant has been fantastic on this tour so far... That unfortunate run out, otherwise he would have scored another century.

age getting to Greg finally

Now comes the time that a keyboard warrior from Pakistan will tell a aussie about an another aussie player😂
Numbers actually back Gregs assertion(at this stage of both players career) but since when has number mattered to some people

numbers define nothing, wins, trophies do....but I see I have triggered indians with my opinion something you guys can't digest.

Gilchrist didn't make blunders and had his own country men call abuse him in commentary, maybe start with that 🤔

And Pant has already won overseas test series in places like Australia which even great batsmen couldnt. Nice try though

And clearly you dont understand wins is because of a team, not because of individuals, Gillespie has more trophies, wins, series than Wasim and Imran, what does that prove?

Joginder sharma has more trophy than >Waqar+akhtar+sami🤣

I would have liked to have heard Senile Gavaskar's reaction after that Pant runout.:kp

We missed out on some entertainment..

Injured Rishabh Pant will miss India’s fifth Test vs. England

India’s Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the final test against England with a foot fracture.

India coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed Pant’s injury for the first time after the visitors salvaged a draw in the fourth test at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Pant retired hurt on day one when taken off the field on a cart with his foot badly swollen but he returned, limping, on day 2 to reach a half century.

“It’s been declared that he’s out of the series, and one thing I want to say is that the character and the foundation of this team will be built on something Rishabh did for the team and for the country as well,” Gambhir said. “Any amount of praise is not enough for him, especially batting with a broken foot.

“I think the generations to come forward will talk about it and the generations coming forward should talk about it.”

Pant was injured when attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes and the ball deflected onto his right ankle and foot.

India did not confirm at the time the extent of the injury, but he was replaced as wicket-keeper by Dhruv Jurel for the remainder of the match.

he is fat plain and simple. His fitness level is very poor. And all injuries are connected to poor diet.
He is a literal gymnast who does acrobatics on and off the field and plays shots which no one else can play because of his flexibility.

And being hit by a ball on the toe and being in a life threatening accident is poor diet? Every single doctor was amazed at how quickly he recovered from such an accident when they thought he couldn't even walk for couple of years.

Poor trolling.

Yet has 4 SENA 100s and countless valuable 50#

Suddenly south africa, Australia, all became flat tracks when he plays
Perth track was flat. Sa track 2nd test vs Pakistan was flat.

Its time to accept you'll find 1 to 2 flat tracks per series now adays.

every time he gets injured you will bring up his car accident?

that is just dumb counter argument. Pant is fat, nothing you will say will change that or make it ok for him to be fat.

Being Fat is unhealthy, you can be a gymnastic but weighing more than the healthy weight limit is considered FAT and Obese.

I can bring in Inzamam records and match winning knocks all day but I will still call him Fat and far from ideal cricketer.

But you lied about his injuries being because of his diet. He has not missed a single match because of fitness related injuries in his entire career.

So what injuries are you talking about which was because of his diet or fitness?

When you lie through your teeth no one is going to take anything you say seriously.

And unlike Inzi Pant has amazing fitness, amazing fielding and good running between the wickets. Nice try though,

he is fat there is no denying in that. it doesn't change the fact that Pant is fat and his career won't be long and he will keep on getting out to brainfart shots and weird ways to getting injured. Remind me what Mr. Pant was trying to do while he got his toe crushed ??
