[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Talent Spotter: Haider Ali

He is far better then rohail. Rohail has been a complete failure in FC this season. Not saying rohail is not good but batting wise Haider looks much better.

Rohail is WK and HA is an opening bat. Are you sure you are comparing the right players with each other.

Rohail is WK and HA is an opening bat. Are you sure you are comparing the right players with each other.

My response was more in relation to who's more ready due to which I said Haider Ali as a batsmen. I have watched both of them over the last year or so when ever they had a game which was on PTV or PCB YouTube stream. For me haider needs to play a year or so more and he will be ready while rohail needs good few years before he's ready. What I have seen of him he gets bowled a lot of times trough dragging it on or getting done by the inswinger resulting in getting bowled or LBW. Having said that he's definitely one for the future.

One of the best young batting talents in recent times. Needs to take the example of Babar Azam and keep on improving himself and working hard.

He seems to be a good player. That has also helped to play on better pitches for a 19 years old.

Will be interesting to see how he does in the U19 WC.

134 in final.

A decent under 19 team, we can expect 3 players from this team to be part of the Pakistan team for the next world cup.

Nasim Shah, Rohail Nazir WK, Haider Ali

Overall, good amount of young cricketers coming through, hopefully we can find a quality spinner to take wickets in the middle overs and a finisher batting number 6.

Favors leg side a bit too much for my liking feet movement is also non existent has a strong cut and best thing is head stays still when he is meeting the ball.

Dont thing he is a prodigy prospect like Babar was but with continued improvement can be a perfectly good international batsman maybe even world class one day.

Haider Ali is managed by the same company that manages Babar hence the tweet #RiseAndRise :)

Abdullah shafiq I think is a superior talent to Haider though Haider is good too.

ICC U-19 World Cup: Good show against India has made me confident, says Pakistan's Haider Ali

Pakistan U-19 batsman Haider Ali says the win over India in Asia Emerging Nations Cup has given him and skipper Rohail Nazir immense confidence ahead of the ICC U-19 World Cup scheduled later this month.

“Beating India and then having done well in first-class matches, we have gained a lot of confidence and we want to carry the burden of Pakistan’s campaign in the Junior World Cup,” Ali said.

Ali said Pakistan won’t be affected by the withdrawal of Test fast bowler Naseem Shah from the line-up. Ali, who scored a brilliant 134 for Northern Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final against winner Central Punjab, said he and Nazir had were keen to lead the team’s bid to win the World Cup in South Africa starting January 17.

“Rohail and I have matured a lot in the last few years especially after getting a chance to play first-class cricket and our experience in the Asia Emerging Nations Cup which Pakistan won,” Haider said.

“And both of us believe we can spearhead and motivate the other players to perform well and try to win the World Cup,” he added.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Nazir, who is also captain of the Pakistan junior got half-centuries in both innings of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, reiterated that Naseem's absence won't affect the balance of the squad.

“If he had been selected it would have been a great boost for us but mentally we have been preparing to play without him in the Junior World Cup and the back-up pace bowlers we have are also good,” he said.

This kid looks class. We’ve got some gun young batsmen and bowlers coming through right now. The future looks immensely bright.

Haider Ali
Zeeshan Malik
Abdullah shafique
Saud Shakeel
Saif badar
Rohail nazir

Nasim shah
Mohammad hasnain
Akif Javed
Musa khan
Amir Khan
Umer khan
Arshad iqbal

Some serious young talent there And I’m
Sure I’ve missed out a few names off the top of my head. Hope they’re all groomed and developed properly. An absolute travesty that not all of them are in the PSL for this years edition. The best young stock of player we’ve had for a while. Can’t let them slip through the net. Absolutely imperative all are played and given a chance at the highest domestic level.

Earmarked as one of the stars of the upcoming Under 19 World Cup.

He should be amongst the top scorers.

Definitely better than anyone from last U19 WC of PAK squad; should enjoy SAF wickets as well, because he likes to punch on the rise.

Yes absolutely.

He's played quite a lot of matches at the Under 19 level and has made his mark this season in First-class cricket, the only concern really will be the pressure and weight of expectations on him, as he and Rohail Nazir are the big names in the squad.

One major difference between this years’ PAK U19 team with last time is that some of the boys (batsmen) are coming after experiencing First Class cricket (4 day cricket more precisely, Second XI games are not given FC status), which can be the game changer here. Harder has played like 10-12 4 day games and the impact will definitely be seen in SAF. Last time, PAK’s batting didn’t look like a team with established cricket set-up.

Yes, especially the 2 main batsmen Rohail Nazir and Haider Ali. The biggest problem is though the team will go into the World Cup last having played an Under 19 match in September.

2018 team had the worst batting Pak under 19 ever had, this team is better than that. Haider and Rohail have to score bulk of runs. Both of them are almost " international level" players now, great expectations from both.

Doing well vs Nigeria in Warmup for WC U19

70* so far

Haider Ali retired out 70 off 38 balls 8 fours 4 6s

Some quotes after today's win versus Nigeria Under 19s:

I am thankful to the Almighty that I’ve got another chance to play in South Africa for the Under 19s. I’ve played here before so I’ve got an idea about the pitches here.

The opposition wasn’t the strongest but we didn’t want to underestimate them and we wanted to finish the job.

I wanted to play my natural game despite the small target and thankfully it went well.

Earlier in the day there was moisture in the pitch, but later on it became a very good pitch to bat on.

I plan to bat in the same way in the upcoming matches, the strategy will be the same and to play my natural game and rely on my best shots.

Let's see the lad develop. Someone on here said that he looked a bit iffy against the short ball in one of the QA trophy matches. From the bits I have seen of him he looks good

He's comfortably the best batsmen in the team. Let's hope he gets big scores in the tournament.

Unfortunate to get run out in the quarter finals otherwise he looked far more comfortable and elegant in his shots in comparison to Huraira who should been caught by third man.

What impressed me most about Haider is his balance when playing the cover drive.

I think Haider can be a good prospect in the test format if developed well.

Yep, as I posted yesterday in another thread.

This kid's batting seems to have some class.
Lets see how the board handles his talent?

i like the fact that he looks strong and purposeful, arms pump the bat through when he hits it. can potentially develop a level of physical intimidation which can work in his favour like other burlier batsmen like matthew hayden and symo

Big match coming up, big expectations from a big player.

Time to raise his game for the India match.

He looks a real player. Fingers crossed for this lad. He has the talent to be a top top player. Inshallah.

Once he gets started, he goes a long way.

Hopefully the match against India is the match where he shows the world how good he is

One more season of domestic cricket and he should be ready for international Cricket

This kid is a good prospect...Cover Drive(both backfoot and front foot) and how good somebody is on off side defines the batsman...In batting, its hard to control your shots with top hand, most people have Bottom hand dominating, expect top tier batsman, who control their shots with top hand, that is key difference between top tier and average batsman...Like Babar, he has a good top hand game. PCB, should make sure, he develops in the lines of Babar, we don't want to loose such a talent, which is rare in Pakistan.

Babar Azam v Haider Ali comparison ....

^^^ Classic cover drive, so refreshing to see young Pakistani batsmen idealizing Babar Azam :vk

Babar Azam has been a great inspiration for our youngsters - good to see.

Easily the best batting prospect we have at this time. The talent and technique is there but needs to work on his temperament as he often tends to throw it away.

Pakistan's mainstay....Has to do well with Rohail Nazir to make sure we get a good start.

Needs to see the opening over through and set himself up for a big score

Looking out of sorts after being hit on the shoulder!

Looks like the only batsman in this U-19 team who could potentially do well in international cricket. Everyone else looks unimpressive to me.

One of the most impressive batsman I've seen for Pakistan in U19 cricket. Needs to be groomed, he seems like a genuine world class talent.

And throws it away again after so much good work.

Unless he learns to play short ball, he will be eaten alive by international bowlers. He has got time on his side, and Hashim Amla as his mentor during this PSL.

He also struggles to rotate the strike, very much like Babar in his inital days so that needs a lot of improvement

One major issue - a trigger to get on the front foot. This will be a problem against quicks bowling short-pitched stuff at him. He's nowhere regarding his footwork when the ball is banged-in.

Good news is that strike rotation can be fixed relatively easily. He has all the strokes and big shots as well as shot selection. Also has a controlled aggression that can make him a disastrous opener for any opposition. Hashim Amla would be an ideal coach for him in my opinion.

Has zero game against short ball. Will be found out very easily by all 85 mph + bowlers

Should play against SA imo.
Just give him a go.

If u want his career to end now.. then u can play him.. he has horrible technique against hostile short pitch bowling.. this kid will hv to bat with a concussion substitute ready if he has to play now.

First fix the problems. Right now he isn't good enough for international cricket

Is he Selected by Peshawar Zalmi or the other Haider Ali from Charsadda who played for karachi U-19 and was highest run scorer in U-19 still didn't get picked in last U-19 WC the hotel waiter who won pakistan U-16 series in Australia with hundreds

Haider Ali today in PSL practice game for PZ:

Scored a brilliant 60 on only 19 balls with 7 sixes!

Monster innings!

Haider at a media interaction: "This is my first opportunity after U19 and my first year with PZ. I will try to give my 100% because PZ trusted me so this is an opportunity for me. I will try to do well for my team and help us to win matches."

Don’t become a ‘falooda’ player: Yousaf warns Haider Ali

KARACHI: Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousaf wants the rookie batsman Haider Ali to improve his shot selection and not get carried away with his performance in the now-suspended fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL). People are calling for Haider’s inclusion in Pakistan’s T20I side after his impressive performance in the fifth season of PSL. The right-handed batsman scored 239 runs in nine innings at an average of 29.87 and a strike-rate of 158.27.

While speaking in a YouTube video, Yousaf advised the 19-year-old to improve his technique in order to take his batting to another level. “Haider Ali plays too many shots and needs better shot selection. If he wants to improve his overall game then he needs to work on his technique,” said Yousaf.

“It is easy to slog as anyone can slog. You are either successful or miss out when you are trying to smash every ball out of the park.” The former cricketer also believes Haider should try to emulate the batting approach of successful batsmen like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Babar Azam. “Haider needs to follow the likes of Kohli, Smith and Babar Azam,” he said.

“Look where Babar has reached in three years of international cricket. He is not a slogger but a proper player, who plays proper cricket. His strike rate is above 130 and his average is 50, which is why he is the number one Twenty20 (T20) player and top five in One-day Internationals (ODIs) and Tests.”

“When your technique is solid and your basics are correct, then you can perform in any format,” he added. The 45-year-old also cited the example of left-hand opener Fakhar Zaman, who has been struggling with poor form recently. “Criticising Fakhar Zaman’s technique when he scored a hundred against India in 2017 Champions Trophy final was like committing suicide. But even then, after Pakistan won Champions Trophy, I said it on live Television that if he doesn’t improve his technique then he will get stuck in future. Now look at him, he is stuck and is yet to show any improvement,” he said.

“I want to caution Haider Ali that you can play at a fast pace, but you need to improve your batting on a daily basis. Try to follow the example of proper players like Babar Azam. Please don’t become a falooda player or a slogger,” he concluded.

Haider ali

I am sure many of you like me are very excited about the future of haider ali.

Can anyone here breakdown his strengths and weaknesses? Also what deficiency he may have in his technique?

Need to work on short ball.

Also needs to do some work on shot selection. This will come with experience and with time in first class.

Agreed defo has a weakness against short ball
Also shot selection picking right shots for right ball.

I also noticed his handling of the short ball.

I think the problem there from what have seen is, when trying to pull or hook he is trying to do it off the front foot.

If he played the short ball off the back foot, it would give him a little bit more time and he would be in a better position to play the shot

Strengths
Has the power game to take on the bowlers
Can adapt to different position in the batting line up
Plays spin really well.
Good rotation of strike
Fearless

Weekenesses
Playing the short ball
Shot selection

Agreed but then again most pakistan batesman struggle against the short bowl I belive becouse he plays on the front foot and hits down the ground and his instincts are to always play on front foot and maybe struggles to pick up the length and line which gets him in a ugly position ?

Hopefully coaches working with him have identified this, I believe muhammed wasim to be the best coach of domestic cricket. Hopefully he can help haider reach his potential

Very excited for this guy. One good, solid FC season under his belt and he's booked a spot in the national team. I'm curious though, whenever he dons the green, what position in the batting he'll play in? Opener?

I don't like the fact that he is not selfish like Babar when it comes to protecting his wicket

Alot of people want him opening or 3 but I say number 3 t20s and odis number 4 due to his ability to play and hit spin

They both different players it turns of consistency babar will always be better but in terms of SR haider will be higher
