[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Talent Spotter: Haider Ali

Alot of people want him opening or 3 but I say number 3 t20s and odis number 4 due to his ability to play and hit spin

He's an opener. He should open in both ODIs and T20s. He can make great use of the powerplay with his stroke making.

For psl he batted at 3 and 4 and 5 hes never opened in t20s am sure

He's barely played T20s. But yes he's suited to 3 in the shortest format.

For ODIs should definitely stay at 3. Tests I'm uncertain about. I would like to see him take a Prithvi Shaw route -- throw him into the deep end and let him grow

For psl he batted at 3 and 4 and 5 hes never opened in t20s am sure

Only in the PSL did he bat away from his preferred opener position. Even in the PSL, their openers were pretty bad so he was in the middle in the first 2-3 overs quite often; he was basically opening.

If him and Naseem Shah somehow reach their potential and Babar and Shaheen continue their upward trajectory, they could propel Pakistan to a top cricketing nation over the next decade. What a core of players they could be.

However too many ifs there.

Let’s see what happens.

If they were that bad why didnt they send him oppening and let him bat straight up not even after they failed they didnt drop them and stil continued with him at number 3 4 5

I expect babar and shaheen to reach great heights.
Babar can be Pakistan greatest batsman in all three formats
Shaheen can be better than wasim and waqar espically in tests.

With naseem if he can stay fit and and free from injuries he can be on par with waqar but I expect him to get injuries quite often due to his age and pace.

Haider ali can be Pakistan best limited overs cricketer he can be better than babar regarding match winnings inings becouse he can play according to the situation and can hit big

Haider will likely be brought into the Intl setup soon. Hopefully Misbah will be helpful and use him wisely. Whether that's opening or as a middler order.

Hes played t20s in psl even thou it's not many games in t20s I'd be okay with 3 cuz we have babar in oppening with anyone else.

In odis he needs to bat at number 4 becouse babar bats at 3.i stil think he needs 1 season before they throw him in tests maybe replace shafiq

I don't know why I said 3. I meant he should stay as an opener in ODIs and Tests, and 3 in T20s.

Yeah agreed, good analysis.

Clearly their potential and ceiling is immense.

It’s how many of them can achieve close to that level. If we get 3 out of 4, then it’s a very exciting period coming up.

Yes pluss they look level headed unlike players we had before for example umar akmal shezard and yup agreed all 4 should be the core of the team need a quality spinner thou for tests espically

In tests you want him oppening becouse hes opened in odis ?

Also based on needs of the team. Both current openers are in their 30s and we need a good replacement within next 3-4 years to be groomed. So bring Haider in at a lower order position in place of Asad Shafiq, groom him there, then shift him up to open once Shan or Abid retire.

Because Kakmal was a keeper, so his place was secure, and they were waiting for Banton to come good, because he is a destructive player when in form, sadly for Zalmi, that form never came.

As a Zalmi fan, I can confirm this. Zalmi has made a couple of very good investments for the future. In 5 years time, Haider and Banton will be most destructive batsmen of this age group (Shaw and Gill will be more consistent, but not as destructive).

In terms of upcoming batting talent, Zalmi has the two best T20 youngsters in the world right now.

If Banton comes good next season, and Haider maintains his current form, Zalmi will be unstoppable.

Bantom more destructive that haider ali ?

Yes I'd agree with that but I reakon omair bin yousuf will be given chance

Well Haider was basically unknown before the PSL, we hadn't seen to much of him, meanwhile Banton was playing crazy innings in the T20 blast and the BBL, so I don't blame Peshawar for giving him preference.

I agree banton played crazy ininings in blast but this thing with psl they give preference to foreign than our own I dont blame but after couple games they should have swapped them around

They both different players it turns of consistency babar will always be better but in terms of SR haider will be higher
Nah he is better than being a "Dasher" if you wanna be at that level of great you need to selfish about your wicket and greats of all the sports were mostly selfish and he needs that mentality to be a great if not you'll be a player who is just good at best

That's what saying babar is thier to bat the whole ininings haider ali is more aggressive and will win more matches due to his attacking instinct

From everyone saying harder should not open in test clearly does not watch domestic cricket ,

On debut he scored 90 odd and in final
Scored 140 odd in a losing cause .

So I think should be opened in all three formats.

I just pray to god he is groomed properly am so sick so talented players from Pakistan showing clear talented and then for what ever reason disappear

Even kamran akmal got runs in domestic and we no what everyone think about him.

Yeh but let’s not go to the days we’re you play players at random positions!

If someone opens for there domestic team , they have been selected based Upon their domestic performances, therefore play them at the position they have performed

Central contract - only a matter of time before he gets a chance in T20Is or ODIs.

Exciting prospect.

So haider ali has played psl which he batted at 4 and 5 mainly so should be bat at this position internationally

Footwork is important regarding 2 aspects for Haider:

1. That trigger movement when facing the short ball.
2. And keeping his feet on the ground off the field.

I agree his first trigger is to get totally on the front foot maybe doesnt pick length up as quicker

Looking forward to seeing him perform in England (chosen in 29-man squad) but is he ready?

He will get some experience of being in a touring party. Hopefully he gets some game time. He is a potentially very good player.

Yeah T20's. Too soon for tests. Another couple of years atleast with some solid domestic performances before we can talk about test matches.

Misbah speaking in presser today

"Haider is a good, young promising batsman. The best thing about him is that he came through the system and performed well at U19 level. It's a problem when you go from U19 to FC cricket, it takes time but the quality of Haider is that he came into FC cricket and performed well with the red ball, scoring heavily in the domestic season. In One-Day cricket, he hit a hundred for the Emerging. Then everyone was thinking he's a good long format player and he got a chance in T20s, people thought he might not be good for the shortest format. But the way he batted in PSL and the type of shots he played against some top bowlers showed his class. He emerged as an overall cricketer. We thought it's the best time to invest in this youngster, especially coming to England with a long preparation period, he has a good chance to play some good bowlers including in the side matches, that could really help him to develop. We're looking forward to how he goes in international cricket and I'm confident.

I think that's the plan. He will start from T20s and work his way up.

Yup hopefully they give him chance in intra matches just see if hes got the bottle but dont play him in the actual team to start against england

Yeah T20's. Too soon for tests. Another couple of years atleast with some solid domestic performances before we can talk about test matches.

He should play intra matches without pressure if performs good if doesnt then doesnt matter.

The cover drive which he played at 00:28.

Glimpse of Bobby in there! MashaAllah.

Dont think it makes sense to open with 2 strokemakers in T20s...I'd want a biffer at one end to accompany Babar so Sharjeel or Fakhar.

Number 3 has been our problem in T20s for a while, he needs to cement that spot.

Seriously man, if he achieves his full potential he can be our Sehwag.

Very good balance at the crease. And nice uncluttered swing of the bat

Just out of interest, is that your opinion or has it been said by the management?

I doubt he will play the Tests but deep down I’m excited about his debut and would love for him to pop up out of nowhere and take the England bowlers to the cleaners.

I doubt he will play he is flashy player but can he build an ininings or play out 20 overs for the draw maybe play in the 3rd test if the series is already decided

Younis Khan: “I spent just as much time with youngsters such as Haider Ali and Rohail Nazir as I did with senior players like Babar. I was always available for them as these younger players are our future.”

I also noticed his handling of the short ball.

I think the problem there from what have seen is, when trying to pull or hook he is trying to do it off the front foot.

If he played the short ball off the back foot, it would give him a little bit more time and he would be in a better position to play the shot

I am afraid England bowlers wont spare him.

Worth brining him into the Test XI for one of the matches?

Its unlikely he will play in the 2nd test, as Misbah will try to demonstrate confidence in Azhar and Asad be playing the same top 5.

InshAllah we will win the 2nd test. In thst case he won't play the third test. If we lose, he'll then play the third test. If we draw, he may play, depending on how Azhar/Asad do.

InshaAllah, is going to be the next great batsman for Pakistan after Babar. Have similar hopes from Abdullah Shafiq as well. He too is quality.
Pakistan's batting will have a great future if these two are blooded in early.

Good prospects, indeed. Haider, at this point, is too flashy for tests. Needs to be taught some discipline, but that will come with age, I suppose.

I was also quite impressed by Huraira, his opening partner in the U19 world cup. I thought he looked a good prospect for the longer format. Played the ball so late, had a bit of Williamson in him. Hopefully, a domestic team grabs him and gives him some chances.

I think Hurraira’s cricketing role model is Williamson too!

And regarding Haider, he has a solid first class season under his belt and looks an entirely different player when he paces his innings compared to his PSL slogs — I like this as it means he can change gears!

Please don't rush him or Hurraria etc. Let them play domestic for 2-3 years more at least then we can consider them.

I think the innings he played against afganistan was very impressive he played the spinners comfortably and timed the ball brilliant I belive hes a good fielder to needs to play for domestic team

You can tell he is a confident lad with his style of speech delivery. Good man, this confidence is massively required in our batsmen

90 off 48 in the National T20 Cup.

Wonder how long Hafeez and Malik can block a talent like this guy.

We really need to see Haider, Abdullah and Babar in the top order against Zimbabwe.
