The stance seems to have evolved over the course of time, with slight changes to it.

Certainly won't see it in any coaching manuals.

I think for seaming and quick wickets, this stance can land you in trouble because the trigger movement is too exaggerated. You wont get time to get behind the line properly while at the same time account for the movement. Also, we're talking about a 34 year old here and no matter how young Fawad looks due to being petite, his reflexes have surely worsened now.

For slow and low wickets, his stance could work. I feel he could do well in UAE or on flat tracks. But in england, on green pitches and under an overcast sky? Goodluck with that technique. Still hope he does well against all odds.

Why does he look like a walking wicket? I want him to succeed but he’s right in front of the wicket before the ball is balled. Plus he’s falling over when playing a shot. I’m worried if he gets a Yorker it’s nights out

It's because his feet is not moving and he is not confident. Otherwise the stance is not an issue

It allows him to move across massively without having to play around the front pad and reduce chances of leg before to straight deliveries. Otoh it makes him susceptible to the ball moving away

The key thing is that he’s in an ok position when he gets to the ball. He could be doing a Morris dance prior to the release for all I care but at the point of delivery he is meeting the ball front of the wicket though a little open.

The question is this. Given that there is a huge gulf between Pakistan domestic cricket and international test arena, were the selectors justified in ignoring him for ten years based on that stance? It’s the first time I’m seeing him and like sarfaraz you just can’t select people who look so ridiculous at the crease unless you’ve got a license to be daring.

"It's not something you are used to - it's not conventional, and it does take a few balls to adapt to as you are constantly focussing on him; But you just stick to your lines and lengths, as at the end of the day he is still in the neutral position when the ball is about to be delivered like most batters so from that point of view, its not too much to look into"

We have assumed that he is able to cope with it but clearly he cannot against quality bowling.

Does he have the strength to change it now or even adjust it?

He cant change it now to late to change it.

the stance works against 97% of bowlers, but the top 3% rush him. pak domestic is full of medium pacers so hes made hay. i was a fawad fan but its obvious that advancing age and slower reactions make his technique even more susceptible to pace. shakeel as a left hander is ready to go replacement.

He can cope as he was in position to play the ball, just couldn't execute. I think Australia is a mental block for him. Let's give him another series

With his age he will have to start scoring consistently. He out of all has slim chances of failure. A few more centuries to his name should make his overall numbers look decent when his time comes to end.
