[VIDEOS/PICTURES] Ubaid Shah - another pacer emerges from the Naseem Shah household!

Not only Ubaid Shah but Hunain Shah as well. Put both their emerging picks on giving contracts to both of Naseem's brothers, so now 3 fast-bowling brothers in the same franchise. Little bit odd
Okay if true, then that's just plain wrong. How ironic that on a day when Naseem was sitting at home watching his teammates get pasted for 346 on Day 1 when should have been out there, that he's leading his brothers towards the same path as himself. They'll break down as well.

We are assuming that somehow Naseem Shah is so powerful that he got both his bros selected

ISLU are a seasoned side who will take decisions which make sense to them

He's injured what use will he be thier.

Can’t say for Ubaid now but Hunain is definitely good enough to be picked in PSL side and has performances to back that up and Ubaid also showed promise and if you perform against India at any level you are bound to get noticed so his selection is some what justified as well

Ubaid Shah picked up a wicket in the Semi-final against UAE in the ongoing U19 Asia Cup. Fabulous yorker to uproot the stumps. Brilliant from him.

Ubaid Shah took 4 for 44 in 9.5 overs against UAE U19 in the U19 Asia Cup as UAE is bowled out for 193 runs. Superb bowling performance from Ubaid in the 1st Semi-final.

Ubaid Shah is looking more promising as compare to the lot currently playing in australia.

Ubaid Shah, during the training session ahead of the ICC U19 World Cup 2024, as quoted in a video uploaded by PCB, he said:

"I'm quite excited, it's such a big event to play in the World Cup. It's a dream, especially for us because with such a large population, being selected holds great honor. I'm thrilled, the coaches advised to stick to natural basics, to do whatever comes naturally. Conditions on those bowling wickets aren't too challenging. We'll try InshaAllah to bowl well."

"It's quite tough for a bowler in these conditions, a bit cold. Because the body isn't warmed up, but we enjoyed the first day with the trainer. We've also had training now. So, didn't feel the cold, just enjoyed it. InshaAllah we'll play like this with enjoyment."

"As the coaches said, to stick to our natural abilities, like we bowled in the Asia Cup. MashaAllah, we performed well. InshaAllah, we'll try to learn from mistakes, not repeat them in the World Cup, and play as a team. The team combination, MashaAllah, is very good. We aim to stay this way, and InshaAllah we'll return after winning the World Cup."

"The target is simple, to play well for the team, give my 100 percent, and work as a team. Perform well for the team and ensure that whatever I do benefits the team."

"There are coaches, Yousuf bhai, in bowling Rehan Bhai, Umar bhai, and all the coaches, including Mansoor bhai. They are all senior coaches."

"Naseem told me to follow what the coaches are saying and not do anything extra. He advised me not to take pressure, in South African conditions, bowling gets faster, supporting the bowlers. So, it's a simple thing to do."

This guy looking good and could be given a chance in Test cricket

I am sure he will do well

Pakistan’s pace factory has another tearaway pacer, still evolving into exciting moulds. Ubaid Shah, Pakistan Test player Naseem Shah’s youngest brother, is aspiring to utilise the South African conditions during the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024.

He too grew up loving the game in the mountains of Lower Dir, before shifting to Lahore to pursue his professional career. Ubaid has so far played eight one-day games for Pakistan U19, picking up 19 scalps and hasn’t been wicketless in any of the games.

In a chat with PCB Digital, he said, “Everyone loved cricket in Lower Dir but no one really had an idea about how to play proper cricket with a leather ball and on a rolled turf. We used to watch some of our legends play on the television and were inspired by them.”

Like his brothers, Naseem and Hunain Shah, Ubaid too learned the craft of pace bowling right from his early days. Following his siblings, he used to sneak out of their village home and play local tape-ball games.

Ubaid’s passion for the game helped him win the confidence of his father who allowed him to shift to Lahore and start training. He was given one year to prove his mettle or give up on his dream of pursuing a cricket career and grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He was selected to play for Central Punjab U16 and then proceeded to play in the U19 circuit.

Ubaid stated: “I love James Anderson’s bowling in Test cricket and I watch Naseem Shah’s bowling a lot. He often gives me tips as well. We sit down to talk about the nitty-gritty of fast bowling. I try to learn more about in-swing bowling which comes naturally to me. I’m working on the outswing as well.”

Ubaid forms a handy quartet with fellow U19 pacers, Amir Hassan, Mohammad Zeeshan, and Ali Raza, allowing Pakistan’s team management a variety of pace bowling options in the mega-event. His role as an enforcer in the attack will be vital to Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup.

“I’ll try and make the most of the conditions in South Africa,” he claimed. “We have a very good batting line-up to fall back on and have bowled well as a unit in the Asia Cup getting wickets at regular intervals. We are eager to do well in the World Cup.”

This guy looks ready to play international cricket, PCB must give him a chance I am sure he will rock the world same as his brother naseem shah

So many interviews and so many articles about him yet no one asked him about his pace which is funny because the first thing you asked about pace bowler is his pace.

We are in for great surprise seeing his bowling speed in the worldcup

Ubaid Shah made 22(12) against Afghanistan Under-19 in Pakistan's Under-19 inaugural encounter. Job done with the bat now it's turn to do the magic with the ball.

After scintillating performance with the ball, Ubaid continues the magic with the ball. He has claimed 2/24 so far in his first spell of 5 overs against Afghanistan Under-19.

UbaidShah is looking ready to go for international cricket... he could be a good all rounder if he gets polished a little more.

Ubaid Shah is really making a mark with his bowling, he's consistently taking wickets for Pakistan U19s. In the group match against New Zealand U19s in the ICC U19 World Cup 2024, he grabbed 3 wickets, giving away only 30 runs in 9 overs. Impressive stuff

Would have been nice if we had a bowling combo of Shaheen, Ubaid, Naseem & Jamal on the Australian tour.

Reading some of the comments, it almost feels that Ubaid should quit/retire immediately because he will not amount to much. Also, that if he continues to play, he will be just be a short and slow poke sifarshi bowler at best (because of his brother). And then there was the usual Junaid lecture about height and all (we have just seen how Afridi just took a gazillion wickets with his gigantic height down under)!

Thing is, the kid is 17 years old (oh yeah, there were doubts raised about his actual age), he is hustling and bustling and seems to be hurrying batsmen in his age group, plus actually swinging/seaming the ball both ways. I don't care if he is barely bowling 120 kmh as some suggested (although he seems to be sharper, more like 130ish), he seems to be a much better bowler, looking from last year and now. We should just enjoy his bowling and hope for the best for him (and the team). He does remind me of the younger Anwar Ali (pre Aaquib days) and also a bit of Patrick Peterson (with that high arm windup and all). I will not actually compare him to any past player (just that he resembles a couple of them) and will enjoy watching him hustle and bustle. Cheers!

He has good line and length and he knows how to set up a batter to get him out. Can swing the ball both ways, which is a luxury. Hoping for him to do well in the future. Exciting prospect.

Patrick Patterson is spot on

Leading the pack in U19s - Ubaid

He should model his bowling on M.Asif rather than Naseem , I think having Junaid Khan on board is really a massive boost for him as he is guiding him to bowl the exact length on these surface and the lack of pace he has.

If he can add 10ks of pace and become 130-137K bowler who can seam it both ways he will literally become unplayable on most surfaces in any format.

Seaming the delivery huge both ways even at 130k is still an absolute nightmare for any batsman in the world, hopefully in couple of years he will improve even more and become an all format bowler for us.

One thing I have noticed that he is good length and fuller length delivery has got alot more pace than his short pitch and short of good length deliveries , when ever he bowls short while trying to seam the delivery towards stumps , the ball just never seems to arrive to the batsmen resulting in batsmen playing his shot too early and while the bowling seams in it result in batsmen inside edging the ball towards stump , well it's good that it is working for him this way but he need to sort out his action to make sure that there is enough pace on his shorter pitch deliveries as well.

And it is totally opposite for Amir Hasan whose fuller and good length deliveries are very gentle and swings at harmless speeds but his shot pitch delivery has some Venom which again resulting him in confusing the batsmen because of double pace , Both these bowlers need some fine tuning of their action and I think Junaid is the right man for these two youngsters.

It will be great to see if Ali Raza Plays today as in my opinion he is the quickest of all our pacers not just on speed reading but his bowl just doesn't loses it pace after pitching and seems to hurry towards batsmen, all types the fuller and good length deliveries as well as short pitch ones.

If you remember when Eng tour Pak and played T20 there was a guy in their team whose top speed was only 139k but off the surface speed was 128/129 while Naseem and Dhani had off the surface speed's of 124K(Naseem) and 118K(Dahani) even though both Dahani and Naseem top speeds were 145k that much quicker than Eng bowler who was hurrying the batsmen even at 139K.

Ali Raza seems to be that type of bowler.

Let's see if ali gets a chance. Who are they going to replace him with? Zeeshan? Naveed?

Better if they rest Zeeshan today and let him focus on his line so that he come better against BDU19. Naveed will be handful against Irish batter and since Ali Asfand is undroppable the only left is Zeeshan for Ali Raza.

Maybe, Let's see. But Ubaid shah has been a revelation in this tournament. He has bowled a beautiful line and length and he definitely to look out for in the future.

Ubaid transformed in to a different bowler since the arrival of Junaid Khan as bowling coach , his length has been totally different before Junaid. I also said that in during Asia Cup where he bowled too short and wide that he should be focus on bowling good and fuller length just outside off stump a bit like M.Asif and he is exactly doing that during the worldcup

Very very impressive. Looks like a big inswing bowler but watching his spell today he bowls just outside off and manages to swing it out aswell. Nice whip in his action too makes the ball bounce and zip just a little bit more. Definitely better than Hunain.

He will most certainly go Naseem Shah route, running after T20 leagues. Good for him. I have very little hope that he will ever do anything meaningful at international level.

It does look like Junaid and Ubaid have found a common place and connection in general. Ubaid has been more disciplined in this World Cup with his line and length.

10 Overs | 31 Runs | 3 Wickets | 3.10 Econ

Another excellent bowling spell today for youngster Ubaid Shah, brother of Naseem Shah. He has wrecked havoc among the ranks of Ireland U19 and has put Pakistan U19 into an advantageous position.

Could have gotten 5 or 6 wkts today, one simple catch dropped and countless play and miss and inside edges not hitting stumps.

What a talent Ubaid Shah is!

He could be even better bowler compared to his brother Naseem Shah.

He has a very good high arm action with the ability to bowl both in-swing and out-swing. Definitely a bright future ahead.

Still not a 100% sold but I am warming to his talent

Ubaid Shah has started getting some acknowledgment and he deserves this spotlight. He has been fabulous so far. Not fast-forwarding him to be the superstar or calling him the next waqar younis etc but this guy has some confidence in his bowling. Worth a praise.

In a do or die match against Bangladesh U19 in the ICC U19 World Cup Super Sixes Group 1 encounter, Ubaid Shah is battling for Pakistan U19 while defending a total of 155.

He has taken 3 wickets for 36 runs in 6 overs so far.

Good prospect.

Still needs to develop but has a great base to work with skill-wise.

Naseem Shah politicked to get him picked according to sources. Nepotism. Power of dosti yaari clique.

He knows how to pickup wickets and being the leading wicket taker at U19 level so even if there is nepotism in his selection so be it.
Bro it was a sarcastic comment like how a few posters would come up with the stupidest of excuses to hate on players they don't like.

He definitely is the best of the current U19 group. Lethal at the start, swing and seam is there, pace is there but the only thing I have noticed about him that can pose a threat and is a threat for him to get injured is his bowling action. While delivering the ball, his body falls away a bit, which could hurt his hamstring in the process. He can improve it with no problem but he needs to be serious about it as well as his coaches, they are the ones noticing it and working on it.

Another bowler from the pace factory delivered. MA

One thing I don't get are the comments about him being slow, at 17 years of age, most bowlers will give anything to be in his shoes. I'll give you an example, yes too early to use a legend like IK as an example. But, at his age, IK was probably bowling in the 110-15 range, by all accounts barely pedestrian and only had an in-swinger and no run up etc. It took him like 6-7 years to be close to being in the 130's and eventually consistently in the 140's around 27-29 years of age. Even when he retired in the 1987 WC, I remember seeing him bowling in the high 130's and early 140's, at that time I think he was already 38 or 39. But, boy was he fit even at that age; I once heard Akram saying that IK could run laps around the ground for a long time while younger players like him would get tired after 2-3 laps.

Not everyone is gonna be like Waqar or Naseem i.e. to start bowling in the 140's consistently well before their 20th B Days. Hopefully, Ubaid stays fit and continues learning, and sky is the limit for him. I will go as far as saying, if he stays fit and improves his bowling speed by 8-10 Ks, he could probably have a better career than even Naseem, who I fear will always be injury prone!

‘We won’t give a second chance’ – Ubaid Shah signals warning ahead of semi-final

Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Ubaid Shah said he “will go back after winning the World Cup” ahead of their semi-final clash against Australia on 8 February in Benoni.

Ubaid Shah has had a stellar U19 World Cup scalping 17 wickets in five matches at an impressive average of 10.52 including a five-wicket haul that came in a do-or-die match against U19 Asia Cup winners, Bangladesh, and secured Pakistan's semi-final qualification while defending a below par total of 155.

“We are happy to make it to the semi-final. The way I have performed and got support from the team and management (means a lot). The way we have come prepared and taken a start, we will hope to finish the same way,” Shah told ICC Digital in an exclusive interview.

In search of their third ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup title, Pakistan have so far ensured no team can breach the 200-run mark against them. Shah acknowledged it as a testament to their bowling quality in the tournament as they go into the semi-final undefeated.

“The batting of our Pakistan team has been good but when we talk about our bowling, it is very good. In the whole tournament, no team has been able to go past 200 against us which is one of the biggest positives."

Being Naseem Shah’s younger brother has raised expectations for Ubaid on the big stage and he has not disappointed. In fact, he draws inspiration from Naseem and seeing him perform makes him the happiest.

“If I talk about individual performances, I watch my brother (Naseem Shah) a lot. I get happy watching the team perform well but seeing Naseem do well makes me happier for obvious reasons.

He performed well against New Zealand and Afghanistan and when I faced the two teams in the tournament, I too bowled well, even in the crucial match against Bangladesh. This has made me the most happy.”

From Shahzaib Khan’s hundred in the first game against Afghanistan to Azan Awais’ rescue knock against Nepal, in crunch situations, Pakistan have often found an individual raising their hand. In their five U19 World Cup matches so far, they have seen four different Player of the Match winners. Brimming with confidence, Ubaid is sure of Pakistan’s all-round ability to go all the way in the tournament.

“Everybody in our team is great. Shahzaib has scored a lot of runs for us and in bowling, I’ve got the most wickets for our team. I’ll continue to perform like this for my team and the quality of batting and bowling we’ve got, we will go back after winning the World Cup.”

“Whenever we set our foot on the ground, we tell ourselves that we are going to play with aggression. Winning and losing is a part of the game. We won’t lose by being lazy. We will always put up a fight even if we lose. The way we played against Bangladesh is our template. We will try to win quickly but with aggression.”

The spotlight now moves to their semi-final bout against Australia, who are unbeaten in the tournament as well.

This Pakistan team has already experienced the feeling of reaching a semi-final when they made it to the one in the U19 Asia Cup last year. Although they lost, Ubaid is assured that his team won’t give the opposition side a ‘second chance’ this time.

“We reached the semi-final of the Asia Cup as well and lost closely.

"We will learn from our mistakes and improve on them. We won’t give a second chance now to another team," he concluded.

Ubaid Shah has been a top performer at the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. I believe he will break the records of Mushtaq Ahmed and Riaz Afridi.

Ubaid Shah from Pakistan has made it to the Player of the Tournament shortlist for the ICC U19 World Cup 2024. He took 18 wickets with an average of 12.38, and his standout moment was a fantastic five-wicket performance against Bangladesh, helping Pakistan reach the semi-finals. Known for his pace and ability to take important wickets, Shah has been a key player for Pakistan in the tournament. His excellent performances have rightfully earned him a spot on the impressive shortlist.

He could be an even better bowler than Naseem Shah. I am eagerly waiting for when he will play for the Pakistan team along with his brother.

He can easily replace Haris Rauf in ODI cricket.

Ubaid Shah while talking to the media after his first practice session with the Islamabad United:

"I enjoyed bowling with Naseem today where he told me about bowling in T20 as per the conditions."

"It has benefited me and I will try to perform well for United as much as possible."

"The batting quality in PSL is great and I will strive to dismiss top batters, including Babar Azam."

"The team environment is such that no one is taking any pressure. There is no pressure on me as coaches and Naseem have given me a lot of confidence."

"We [brothers] contribute to the bowling and the desire is that all three brothers represent the country. I am working hard and am ready for any opportunity to play for Pakistan in any format."

Cool to see Ubaid making his PSL debut today and the the two bros opening the bowling.
Big challenge for the U-19 star to be bowing to Farhan and Fakhar straight up, let's see if he can hold his nerves.
Does he chuck though? looks a bit sus to me

He seems faster than Naseem Shah. Bowling 144kph for like 4 deliveries in his first over.
