Zafar Gohar 1/35 in 10 overs - Glouc chasing 293 to win

Out for 30(49)

From match report:

Taylor’s seven overs of leg breaks contributed to 34 overs of spin bowled by Gloucestershire, with Pakistan international Zafar Gohar not conceding a single boundary in his ten overs. Gohar also bowled five of those overs in the first powerplay, having Ryan Patel held on the deep square leg ropes for 5 and, in the end, impressing with 1 for 35.

Gohar made a useful 30 before reverse-sweeping Majid to short third man, and Taylor struck further legside sixes off Lawes and Majid before holing out to deep mid wicket in the 39th over.

And follows it up with 23*(17) to help his side to a 5 wicket win

A fine all-round performance by Zafar Gohar today of 10-38-4 and 23 not out off 17 balls as Gloucestershire beat Middlesex by 5 wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup

Another wasted talent. He should have been given a proper chance since 2015. Apart from his missed debut, I seem to remember that he was made to wait a number of years--as a sort of punishment?--and if I'm not mistaken he did quite well, especially with the bat, in one or two ODI's he played. And then he didn't play again. It is just not true that there is no spin bowling talent. We seem to be obsessed with fast bowling.

Steady performer this season for Gloucestershire.

Averaging nearly 30 now with the bat and 37 wickets at an average of 32 in the County Championship.

this is probably his level. struggled quite a lot in QaE trophy on flatter pitches. good for him to be getting consistent cricket, a few more years and he'll pbly get residency.

Good match for him:

55 and 10*
Match figures of 6 for 102

Nothing to show that's he's a better option then Nawaz or vice versa for test cricket I think Nawaz will bowl better while Zadar will give you more runs.

He has done extremely well this season. He surely won't be worse than those naumans sajids and yasirs.

He should get the call up against England and hopefully he will perform well.

Can’t see him getting picked for Pakistan.

If he was Kuwaiti or had any relation to an ex cricketer he’d have 50 Test caps by now.

He has done really well for Gloucester but if he is the same as when he played in NZ, he won't take many wickets. On the other hand, Nauman has been awful, and the likes Mehran are too young, and Asghar hasn't kicked on, he may be back in soon

Zafar Gohar signs new two-year deal at Glos

Pakistani spinner Zafar Gohar has signed a new two-year deal at Gloucestershire Cricket, keeping him at the Seat Unique Stadium until at least the end of the 2024 season.

Zafar has committed his future to Gloucestershire having played for the Club in the previous two seasons on short-term agreements.

The 27-year-old was a star performer for The Shire last season, which ended with him picking up the Bowler of the Season and Players’ Player of the Season awards at the Club’s annual End of Season Gala Dinner in October.

Speaking about his excitement at extending his stay in Bristol, Zafar said: “I’m delighted to have committed my future to Gloucestershire for the next two years. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Bristol last season and have made some great friends in the dressing room, so I’m really excited to be back.

“There’s a lot of talent in the group and I want to do my best to help the team next achieve success, starting with promotion back to Division One of the County Championship next season.”

After initially impressing with a string of match-winning performances during the latter stages of the 2021 season, Zafar re-signed for The Shire for the start of the 2022 campaign. He went on to bowl an extraordinary 527 overs in First-Class and List A cricket combined, and finished the year as Gloucestershire’s leading wicket taker with 60 wickets in all competitions.

In Division One of the LV= Insurance County Championship, Zafar claimed 47 wickets with a bowling economy of 2.97, the eighth-best figures of any bowler in the top division last season. Among a catalogue of player-of-the-match performances was Zafar’s nine-wicket-haul in The Shire’s dramatic win v Yorkshire at Headingley, and his ten wickets in the match v Northants at Cheltenham.

The left-arm wizard also played a key role in Gloucestershire’s One-Day Cup campaign, taking 13 wickets in eight matches at an average of 4.69, the joint-most for Glos alongside Paul van Meekeren.

Traditionally a tailender, Zafar flourished with the bat as well as with the ball during the 2022 season. In eleven four-day matches, Zafar scored 493 runs at an average of 27.38 and provided a handful of crucial contributions at the crease. His prowess as an all-rounder also shone through in August’s 50-over matches, in which he averaged 40.80 and accumulated 204 runs from eight innings. It was in-fact in the opening One-Day Cup match v Warwickshire that Zafar scored his career-best List A score of 62 at Cheltenham, a tally that was later followed up by a terrific 53 v Sussex Sharks in Hove.

Zafar is currently playing for Central Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in Pakistan and in his last outing, took five wickets and scored 41 runs v Balochistan. He will be available for selection in all three formats for Gloucestershire next season and will link up with the rest of the squad for pre-season training in the Spring.

Steve Snell, Performance Director at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “I’m delighted Zafar has committed to the club and will be with us for at least the next two years. Zafar has become a supporter’s favourite because of the fantastic performances he put in for Gloucestershire during the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

“Zafar has not only made a significant impact on the pitch with the bat and ball, but has also been such a positive influence in and around the dressing room, and across the whole club with his determination, attitude and infectious smile. The boys absolutely love playing with him and this news is superb for the group.

“We’re really confident that Zafar signing a contract with the club not only strengthens our squad, but can assist Zafar’s career and keep helping him improve over the next couple of years. We’re all really excited to see what Zafar can continue to achieve for Gloucestershire, starting with next summer.”

Dale Benkenstein, Head Coach at Gloucestershire, added: “It’s great news to have secured Zafar’s services for the next two years, he grew as a player and as a member of the squad as the 2022 season progressed.

“We firmly believe we still haven’t seen the best of Zafar yet, which is really exciting, and we will continue to help Zafar reach his true potential as a match winner for Gloucestershire.”

Zafar had improved his batting. It is tricky to bat on English pitches at the start of the season. Not sure about his bowling. He is doing well in county cricket but can he be successful at international level.

Zafar Gohar takes a wicket at start of the day - Good start for him. (1/7 at the moment)

His first century of the County season - with the ball.

1 for 111 today from 28 overs.

Zafar out for 28, Glouc sitting pretty at 481/7

Zafar Gohar with just one wicket in the game against Derbyshire, 1/34

Zafar a bit expensive (1/61 in 16 overs) vs Durham

Improved a bit Zafar with 3 wickets now - 3/92

Ends up on 4/104 and the main wicket-taker in this innings as Durham reach 393/9 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 7th round.

Needs to be in the test team

Aside from the current game, he has averaged around 60 with the ball and 26 with the bat in the current season. He really needs to get that bowling average lower if he wants a chance in the national team.

Zafar scored 18 runs today in Gloucs first innings.

He's sort of stayed at the same level over the years. A steady performer rather than spectacular.

I thought he might have pushed on in his career.

Unfair to judge

Because early spring wickets in england and weather is not the ideal conditions for a spinner. Its always gonna be a struggle to pick wickets.

These wickets cloudy weather conditions favour seam bowlers .

Zafar Gohar with one wicket in 2nd innings - bit expensive 1/66

Zafar Gohar could make his T20 Blast debut vs Kent tonight

Zafar out for 8 (run out) in Gloucs' tournament opener.

Out for 9, Zafar vs Glamorgan - let's how he does with the ball

Zafar takes his first wicket of the game, ends up on 1/31 in 3 overs as his side is beaten by Glamorgan by 2 wickets

Takes 1 wicket, 2 wickets here and there. Scores 10 runs, 20 runs here and there

It seems like some counties have a lot of money to waste.

Zafar not picked for game against Middlesex.

Zafar Gohar not playing but took a blinder as sub

Back in the Gloucs XI in the Vitality blast and bowled decently so far - 2 over for 6 runs (no wickets)

4 overs for just 15 runs today.

Good time for him to bowl after the loss of so many early wickets.

3 overs for 18 and one wicket - Zafar done well today vs Middlesex.

Crazy how few opportunities he’s gotten at the international stage despite having genuine ability.

While the likes of Shan get 100s of opportunities spanning 10 years for doing diddly squat and having the most mediocre and amateur like performances .

Zafar out for a well-played 25(26) - which given the performance of the rest of the batting order is pretty good
